    The reason why I love Luther Vandross live performances is because he knew how to sing it "just like the album". I even remember seeing him live once and he said, "I'm going to sing every song I got, and I"m going to sing them" "JUST LIKE THE ALBUM" Most artists today, can't do that, or don't realize how important that is..........

      Right, I dislike it when artists sing their songs live in a different way that throw folks off.

      Um, if you listen to the studio versions and what's on these concerts, the tempos are often different and the performances slightly more economical.

      I Love Luther. For me he was one of the greatest ever. My sister and I saw him at the Forum, drove to San Diego to see him the next day, front row seats, revolving stage, it was like he was performing just for us. I will never forget that evening ❤❤❤

      Agree. 99.99% of artists aren't capable of that, Luther was a genius with a god given gift.

    Not only is Luther vocal ability once in a lifetime, but so is his articulation as a singer. He, like Whitney Houston, are singers that articulate so clearly - SPECIFICALLY with the vocalizations of vowels, that there is no ambiguity in what they are singing. Ever. Non-English speakers have sited them both as musicians that helped them learn English.

    Having the please of seeing Luther live 5 times, I can say without doubt that he was Truly GREAT. He was the ONLY artist I've ever seen whose voice was actually BETTER Live than on his albums ( I'm old - what's an album?). He was an exquisite showman and a phenom vocalist. Tragic to lose him so early. To anyone out there...get his music as he is one of the all time GREATS. When you go to see a concert and people like Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, and other big name artists are IN THE AUDIANCE, you know it is something special (Luther in Long Beach, Ca). I also sat next to a little guy named Magic Johnson at a concert in the old 'in the round' theater in Orange, Ca (Celebrity Theater I think it was called?). RIP

    • @56YoLefty
      @56YoLefty 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I was just saying the same thing to a friend. I saw Luther in the round (along with Vanessa Williams as his opening act) at the old Capitol Centre in Landover, Maryland back in ‘97 or ‘98 (I can’t remember the exact year) and was AMAZED at what I heard because I said to my date that Luther sounded EXACTLY and sometimes better live then the album version (yes I’m old school too). What a talent. What a voice. R.I.P. LV

      There is something completely magical about this track and Luther's amazing voice.
      I remember buying it on 12" and also had a brochure from a camera manufacturer.
      On the back of the camera pamphlet was an incredible photo of a setting sun over the Alps.
      When playing this beautiful track I was engrossed looking into the colours of nature on that mountain.
      Something truly universal struck a chord inside like divine sonic light.
      Completely timeless Music that reaches inside in a very special way.

    Years before mom put me in voice lessons (after I convinced her it wasn't a waste of money), Luther literally was my voice coach. Singing his songs, and rewinding the tape to replay every note and vocal nuance. He taught me how to belt, flip to head from chest voice, dig deep and hold high notes, and hardest of all, the breath control to sing softly. He was a master vocalist, a technician. I learned so much from him, Peabo, and Donny alone in my bedroom, singing into the mirror. I only wish I got to thank him.

    Luther was so influenced by Motown's Diana Ross and The Supreme's and The Temptations prime time television specials. He constantly emulated them in staging his own shows...from the costumes to the choreography....so evident and brilliant. 👍✔️💖🎤

      @@dtrn254 If someone worshipped Jackson 5, they would definitely have Michael Jackson at the center: I really meant Diana Ross. To prove that he really worshipped her, you never heared him say so in interviews as an influence. Instea, he mentioned Dionne Warwick, Aretha Franklin etc. That was just a decoy. I actually remember hearing a Supremes song, where I believe he got his style of harmonizing from.

    • @dtrn254
      @dtrn254 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zingydee8092 Luther MOST DEFINITELY LOVED Diana Ross' voice since childhood. It wasn't the Supremes' voices collectively, it was specifically 'Diana Ross's voice' Luther adored.

    Luther is a legend and was a very skilled singer and writer. Though we should note how fame can also have such a destructive effect on some people! It is sad but ironic that the best songs of all time were often written but then ALSO sung by the author! These people tend to live within a realm that is much more receptive than the rest of us. Likewise they then have to deal with emotion at a much deeper level than most of us! RIP Luthor!

    I so wish Luther had taken care of himself with the weight, high blood pressure and diabetes. He looks so tired up there. I wish he had taken time off from performing and spent 6 months or so getting healthy. He would still be with us, sharing his great talent with the world.
    RIP Luther. You are sorely missed.

    • @JaySmith-mz7vg
      @JaySmith-mz7vg 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No disrespect but how much do you know about Luther? Because he did take care of himself & it's well known how much he struggled with his weight & self image (mentally & physically). Also, he did take time off from performing & appearances. He even refused to host an award show with Dionne because he had gained weight & was working on losing it again.

    Luther Vandross is one of my favorite singers of all-time, and this is a live performance that I like with him singing at Wembley, and it's also a live performance that I like more than the one with him singing live at Royal Albert Hall from 1994. And this is also a live performance that I have on video tape with Luther singing and I would sometimes watch it every now and then. I have to say that it's great to see Luther and his 3 backup sing live and party to this song with the audience, and it's also great see them all dressed up, wearing sparkling gold after wearing all black sparkling that they wore before, including Luther. From this live performance, I even find that Luther looks his best wearing that sparkling gold suit jacket that his 3 backup singers bought back for him to change in, and his 3 backup singers also does look their best wearing their all white sparkling outfits as well. And I also have to say that I don't like the 1994 live performance with Luther singing at Royal Albert Hall, and that's a live performance with him I would never watch because some of the songs I don't like and his look appearance. But I do like this live performance with him singing alot better and with him looking his best.

    I remember this video back then and there was an Asian long hair guitarist playing the solo ....... Why was he removed and I can't find any information on him.
