If anybody wants to dress up their Regard a bit, I ordered Beretta 92 grips from VZ. They didn't know if they'd fit the Regard but offered to take them back if they didn't. I got them and... they almost fit. So close. Mounting holes just a hair too wide and the grips were about 1-2mms too long from about half way down the frame to the butt end. But the VZ grips fit the inside of the frame. So instead of sending them back I spent 20-30 minutes carefully customizing/grinding them with my Dremel tool. Worked great and was crazy easy.

Per the magazines - there is a fix: Mine came with Mec-Gar mags which ran flawlessly. Beretta commercial, Beretta surplus, and Checkmate surplus would not engage the slide lock. The "finger" that sticks out to catch the ledge on the follower was too short. I used a Beretta factory slide lock and now all magazines are working. The "finger" on the Beretta slide lock sticks out well far enough to engage the ledge on the follower reliably. I love my EAA Girsan Regard. The machine work and coatings are flawless. The function is flawless with several hundred rounds put down range. I aced a police post qualification with it; its that accurate. So far Beretta parts are working as I do upgrades. I have installed Hogue grip scales and Beretta slide lock so far. I just received a Wilson short reach trigger and trigger spring conversion unit that I intend on installing this coming weekend. It is a 92F clone. I love mine so much in fact that I am looking forward to when EAA finally brings over the compact version so that I can buy one of those as well.

Save money and buy one! I’m a Beretta guy and I will say the Regard is every bit as good as my Beretta’s. I didn’t believe it until I went to the range today and did a comparison between my new Regard and my Beretta 92A1. The guns shot identical. Same tight groupings with both. I’m very impressed to say the least. I plan on purchasing a few more for my collection.

This video was both useful and too tempting, and so I went out and bought a Regard MC. It hasn't been disappointing; it is reliable and well made. I've ordered a holster or two, but they haven't arrived yet so I'm not sure if the kydex holsters for the M9 will work on the Regard MC with rail. For magazines, though, I went with the Mec-Gar 18 round model MGPB9218AFC. Mec-Gar manufactures the magazine for Girsan that comes with the Regard and this model functions perfectly, including locking back on empty. While I was buying the Regard MC at my local gun shop, it was a slow time without many customers, so we tried using using Beretta magazines in the Regard MC. The Beretta magazines would load and eject without issue, but locking back on empty would only work some of the time.

The 92 is a proven design. Beretta has demonstrated they can make it to mil-spce standards; so has Girsan (used by Turkish soldiers and cops for years). It is a way to get a good enough M9A1 for about half the price of a Beretta ($390 v $730).

Took mine to the range for the first time tonight and damn, I agree! Very happy. Well made, fit and finish very nice (I have the 2 tone version and it's a handsome gun), action smooth and precise, a smooth and soft shooter with very friendly recoil. Feels good in a slightly large way (as compared to my CZs and PPQs) to my medium sized hands. Shoots well - slightly low at 15ft, slightly less low at 21ft, right in at 30ft for me with Winchester 115gr FMJs. Shot 100 rounds with no issues. I'm impressed. The DA is heavy and I'll likely change to a lighter main spring but the SA is pretty nice. The trigger pull is softer/less crisp than my CZs but still pretty nice. I shot it almost as well as I shoot my stock CZ SP-01 tactical. And most importantly, I really, really enjoyed shooting it. A definite winner and huge bargain. And a great, affordable intro to the Beretta 92 series of guns. I'm headed to the range again tomorrow and I'm looking forward to shooting it some more. Oh, one edit, one bummer with the Regard: it has a fixed front sight. Really wish I could change it out for a fiber optic or night sight. No big deal - I'll just paint the dot day glow orange or green but it would have been nice to be able to replace it.

  • @magicdaveable

As a Marine didn't you learn to Not allow the slide to slam shut when empty. Such action over time damages the action. Ask any pro-shooter. The slide pushing a round off the top of the mag. along with the weight of the round buffers the closing of the action thus greatly reducing the shock of the slide locking in battery. You should learn to be accurately using double action. Personally I would tune the double action. I practice often with revolvers using double action only. Single action is easy to hit the bullseye but double action operation might be necessary in a critical life or death situation.
