That was really done. My window has wood trim. But your note about cosmetic putty is important. Also your note that GE Adhesive Silicone is by far stronger. I saw lifetime warranty and previously discovered silicone is silicone oxide, so it seems environmental friendly.

Glazier's Steel Push Points also called Glaziers Nails push in easily, are very cheap and hold the piece of glass in place while the silicone cures. No need to prop something against the glass and come back later to remove.

Yes you can. The silicone will attach the glass to the wood.

Does one also put the silicone into the slit where the window will sit in, or just close to the frame.

I put silicon first and then put the window. After you put silicon you insert the glass and then you may put a wood filler (at the outside ) if you want but it is not neccesary if you use silicon.

You should use any exterior wood filler.
