James Earl-Jones is still very much alive, he just turned 93 years old
He licenced his voice to Disney for the exclusive use as Vader. Got paid quite well for it as well.

Rogue One, in my opinion, is the best Star Wars movie ever made outside of the original trilogy and it ranks right up there with the original trilogy.

It was slightly out of sync from the beginning, but at that point it got much worse.
Now when you go back and watch Episode 4 and read the opening scroll, you know how much the Rebels lost in that 1st victory.

One of the best things I liked about this movie was how the relationship between the female lead Jyn and the male supporting character Cassian was a very strong ~platonic~ bond, similar to how soldiers bond with their comrades on the battlefield, especially reflected in how they spend their last moments together in a last embrace as two friends rather than a kiss as two lovers. I am so happy that they went that route in writing their relationship when it would've been so easy to have written them as a romance.
That description reminds me of the relationship between Vasquez and Hudson in Aliens. It’s one of the best things about the movie. That and all of Hudson’s lines. They should watch Alien, and then Aliens. Alien would scare the chittlins out of them. Just like Terminator and T2 it’s a great horror movie followed by a just as great heavy sci-fi sequel.

I think there’s enough subtext to hint that feelings might’ve been growing between them, but it’s smartly handled with ambiguity so you can see it either way. But regardless, the tragedy is they never had time to explore or strengthen their relationship in any way. They willingly sacrificed that chance for the sake of the galaxy.
Cassian Andor is the reluctant spy, and the part was played perfectly. You need to see the Andor series to catch his backstory… it!s AMAZING.

In the original Star Wars, it was mentioned that the plans to destroy the Death Star were acquired at a great cost. This was that story of sacrifice.

I,m an original Star Warsian fan. I seen the first 3 movies when they had first come out. I am 56 years old. To me, this movie was the best stand alone Star Wars movie since the original 3. It is right there with them, and not because of the pre-tie-in to 'A new hope' but because the movie totally aroused the original spirit of Starwars. It was incredibly well done. Excellent movie that did not insult my intelligence with sarcasm's as the prequills and spinoffs have. This movie is a case for young movie makers where originality makes a big difference.

Saw this in the theater when it was first released and, other than it being an amazing bridge between films, it held my attention for the simple fact that I was watching Peter Cushing reprise his role as Governor Tarkin after he had been dead for 22 years.
That part blew my mind.
They did a really good job bringing Peter Cushing back. It doesn't jar your perceptions at all. And Jay and Amber seemed not to even take in that he was long dead because his character was so natural. Such a good movie!

Rogue One is my favorite Star Wars movie out of all of them. The blind guy was my favorite character too, he was amazing. I love that moment where he's walking through a firefight chanting "I am one with the force and the force is with me." So good.
Just thought I'd chime in on the technological marvel that is the Grand Moff Tarkin Character, first seen in episode 4 (the original Star Wars in 1977). The actor playing him back in the original film was PETER CUSHING, who died of prostate cancer in 1994. The film makers needed the character back nearly 40 years after we 1st and lastly saw him get blown up with the Death Star. But since Peter Cushing was already deceased (he would've been 106 if he lived up to the premiere of Rogue One), they got permission from his estate and re created him digitally. Its so fascinating to see you two not notice its not a real person playing Tarkin.
They really didn't need that CGI to do Tarkin though. Guy Henry looks a lot like Tarkin to begin with. Some makeup, prosthetics or hair pieces and he would look perfect without the expensive CGI.
Well, it IS a real person, but they did with him what they did with Leia. Had a stand-in and then digitally superimposed his face.
The lighting helped a lot. Leia only had one short scene, but Tarkin had lots and they wouldn't have gotten away with full lighting.
Peter Cushing is one of my fave actors. He's so freakin' cool in all those old Hammer horror films.

As teachers - a movie you both would love is Mr. Hollands Opus -about a man who takes a job teaching music to school kids as a temporary "gig" to support his lifelong dream of composing. Of course he loves being a teacher and it is about hid journey - covers decades including the late 50s and 60s a time Amber loves.
I agree. My father is a retired band director and this movie hits so close to home, that I have a hard time watching it anymore. Fantastic movie regardless!
Mr. Hollands Opus is the best movie about teaching ever made. It's not about a class, or an event. It's about teaching as a career and it's highs and lows.
It's the time hops that gets me every time.
I've been trying to get reactors to watch it for years. It is hands down my favorite film of all time.
I don't get how Mr Holland is a "good guy". He wanted to sleep w a student and was a dick to his family
Jyn isn't Force-sensitive the necklace that holds the kyber crystal was a gift for Jyn because her mother in particular believed in the Force and maybe even the Jedi Order the crystal came from the work Galen was getting done for the Death Star project before he abandoned it and went into hiding
A lot of people missed the reference that this movie "bridged" Ep 3 and Ep 4 until the very end when there was a CGI Princess Leia trying to escape with the secret tape. And in the briefing watching how to bomb the exhaust vent in Ep 4 with Leia and Luke the Rogue One mission was mentioned as a great sacrifice and cost to get the data on how to destroy the Death Star. Everyone wondered why would the Empire leave such a vulnerable spot in the Death Star and in this movie we find out it was purposely placed there by Galen.
I never saw that as a design flaw. Exhaust ports are necessary, for one thing. And as *General Dodonna* says, _"The battle station is heavily shielded and carries a firepower greater than half the star fleet. _*_Its defenses are designed around a direct, large-scale assault."_* But I suppose it needed to be retroactively explained seeing as so many fans apparently *did* see the exhaust port as a dumb mistake. 🤦🏼♂️
Since the release of *_Rogue One,_* I've also taken issue with the assumption many fans have that *Vader* was right behind the _Tantive IV,_ and therefore made *Leia's* claims of innocence upon capture seem hollow and unconvincing. Whereas I saw a number of blockade runners escape, and at the time one could not track a ship through hyperspace. People assume *_Episode IV_* starts up mere minutes after *_Rogue One._* But there is no mention of that. It could have been days (my take on it anyway). Afterall, *Vader* says, _"I have traced the Rebel spies to her. Now she is my only link to finding their secret base."_ Not what I'd expect him to say if he was just minutes behind her after getting the plans.
But, that's just me. 🤷🏼♂️

@thenathanhaines Roughly around this same time, the Emperor disolved the senate. So, the diplomatic immunity probably went out the window with all of that.
@@CaesiusX I agree, I never saw it as a plot hole. Imagine a moon sized space station with exhaust ports smaller than two meters in diameter, that would be pretty impressive. Especially since the majority of the exhaust would have to come from the reactor at the core otherwise it would cook the crew alive.

The Vader slaughtering at the end was not originally supposed to be filmed
The movie crew wanted to add some more content and that scene was one of the pieces of new stuff
IMO it gave the opening scene more flavor and increased the tension of the first sighting of Vader as he boarded Leia's ship
Before Rogue One, Vader was a villain. After Rogue One, Vader was the boogie man for me.

I'm glad they did because this was the Vader I always wanted to see. We always hear about what a bad man Vader is and how scared everyone is of him, but I feel like this is the first time we actually get to see WHY they're so scared. Amazing scene.

I saw this in the theater, shortly after Carrie Fisher became one with the Force. When Leia appeared on the screen, I was absolutely stricken. My heart skipped a beat, and a lump formed in my throat. When she said "Hope", the tears started pouring down my face. Carrie's daughter stood in as her body double, and they used original Episode 4 footage to superimpose Carrie's face.

The prequel series Andor, second and last season out later this year, is some of the best Star Wars content ever made. These don't have the title crawl at the beginning because only the main episodes get those.

Next to the original trilogy, this is my fave Star Wars flick. It was a different feel. It was a war movie. It was gritty. There is a moral compass but it operates amongst a lot of tough and questionable choices. Nothing is easy. Heroes die. It is a war movie.
It's not about the Skywalkers. It's not about the Jedi. It lets us stretch out in to the Star Wars universe and lets that lore breath.

This is my favorite Star Wars movie. It really makes the empire terrifying, it helps explain in a believable and inspiring way WHY the death star could be destroyed with one torpedo and it has one of the best scenes in any Star Wars movie (Darth Vader hallway scene). It also explains why Vader is absolutely ticked at Leia trying to say they were just a diplomatic vessel. He's like, "Girl, I SAW you fly away from Scariff. I was right there!!"
I LOVE how that scene plays now!

I get that way with Marvel sometimes - hated a particular decision, and it FEELS like it doesn't make sense for the way I picture the character, but thinking about it outside of how much it made me grind my teeth lol I realized that it did make some sense. I just didn't like it! You are very welcome to hate this movie :)

I love The callbacks to the originals. The “you better watch out” guy.. “I’ve got a bad feeling about this”.. a few others I know I missed. All around they did justice to the series imo.
Red 5's call sign becoming available, Red & Gold Leaders. This movie was just perfect if you are a huge fan of a New Hope.
Probably the worst parts of the movie... "I saw something I remember and I CLAPPED" It's like dangling a toy in front of a cat
What I love about Rogue one is that, in the Star Wars universe we've seen before we only saw the good guys vs the bad guys. The good guys being the Rebellion and Jedi - The bad guys being the Empire and Sith.
Rogue One delved deeper into the reality of war:
Not everyone in the Empire was evil
Even the good guys (Rebellion) did horrible things in the name of fighting the Empire

So nice to see Mads playing a good guy here. In spite of his ice-cold resting villain face, he is said to be a charming, friendly type IRL. And did you guys know he is an excellent dancer? He trained as a gymnast in his youth and studied ballet for 8 years. He has a loose, breezy style that reminds me of Christopher Walken. Consider searching "Mads Mikkelsen dancing", I think you'll be surprised.

It gets you invested in the characters because they are so well done. And not cookie cutter. You feel it when they fall. I honestly cried when Chirrut fell.
I haven't even watched the reaction yet but just wanted to say b4 I started it that this is by far my favorite Star Wars movie. May not be a popular opinion but from a pure movie lover perspective this is great!
You are not alone. Many naysayers crap on it, claiming contains a lot of shameless fan service to old timers who were raised on the original trilogy.
Which it has, and even I reluctantly admit that is what drew me into it at first. But beyond that, it is a great story in its own right.

A computer animated Tarkin was so amazing at the time. This is before deep fakes were mainstream and a favorite character was being brought back to life. Him & Leia were great scenes in the movie.
Great reaction. This one really brings home the ambiguity, uncertainty and sacrifice of war. No one knows what will happen, or what it will take to prevail. Most of the heroes go down without knowing whether their efforts were in vain, yet it couldn't have been done without them.
The "Kyber crystals", which the empire used to power the Death Star, those are the same crystals that Jedi use to power their lightsabers, btw. And you know how powerful lightsabers are with just one, small crystal powering them... now you can understand why the Death Star, which uses many, much larger crystals, is so destructive.
How you can tell that people trained in Jedi skills were behind its planning. Scary stuff.
I’ll never forget seeing this in theaters with my friends. We were all seniors in high school and went to the midnight premiere. We all freaked out at the Vader scene. Didn’t leave the theater until about 3am.
The musical score by Michael Giacchino is one of my favorite parts of the movie.
It screams "Star Wars" and feels like it, but at the same time, its so much more for the lack of a better word. I like that you hear some of the older cues in this. Prime examples include The Main Star Wars Theme, The Force Theme, The Death Star, The Imperial March and The Rebel Theme. The music as a whole offers alot of different emotions. One moment, its epically bombastic and heroically triumphant. The next, its really suspenseful, intense and surprisingly dissonant. Heck, its even romantic or somber at other times as well.
I love the use of strings, brass, woodwinds, harps, pianos, percussions and choirs.
By the way, Giacchino is also known for having witty and punny title tracks for his music.
It doesn't scream SW whatsoever, its actually a very boring and cliche score

Rogue One shows rebellions are built on hope but paid for with blood.
Tuesday, December 20th 2016. I was dealing with a head cold but had to pick something up downtown, a block from the Scotia Bank Cineplex. Decided on a whim to catch a 3pm matinee of this. Room was packed, and I was at the edge of my seat the entire time. Such a good movie.
Really hope you guys check out Andor after this. You get to learn about Cassian and his backstory. That aside, it’s one of the best shows on Disney plus, and I would rank it as neck and neck with mandolorian, both of which could be considered some of the best stuff in the Star Wars universe
Remember how shocked you were when Andor shot that guy with the limp. Andor shot him because, ultimately, he would've slowed them down, and because he talked to Andor with minimal pressure, would've caved easily with Imperial pressure. They were both Rebels. Saw Garrera is an Extremist. He doesn't care whom he kills to accomplish his goal, foe or friend. He did have a soft spot for Jin, but abandoning her absolved him of worrying about her, and if she survived, she survived. If she didn't, she didn't. If you want more development on Saw's character and his relationship with Mon Mothma, The Clone Wars animated series is fantastic.
James Earl Jones is still alive. He's in his 90s, but still gracing us with his presence. 😊
I can't believe so many people forget that the original Star Wars (A New Hope) tells us about the group of rebels that gave their lives to get the plans out (the plans Leia put in R2D2). I had a sick feeling as soon as I knew they were going for the plans because the original Start Wars told us flat out that no one would survive this mission.
Also, I thought it was odd in the movies that the fighter wings were all named after different colors ("Red Leader" and "Gold Leader") but one group had the call sign of "Rogue", ("This is Rogue Leader"). Now we know why.
My fav thing about watching Star Wars "newcomers" is when they finally realize who is who and how things come together over the movies... but my favorite part of THIS reaction is when she said out loud while watching the movie "I have a bad feeling about this", without realizing exactly what she said :) LOL ( yes, I know it's I'VE got a bad feeling, but damn, that was close enough without even knowing lo)
I love the cameos and the fill ins. Luke is probably shooting womp rats as the rogues head out.

I really loved this movie. How it tied into episode 4 is awesome. I really like how they got Peter Cushing to reprise his role as Wilhuff Tarkin, commander of the Death Star. Even though he died in 1994. Must have been some tough contract negotiations.

Saw the original Star Wars back in 1977, loved it then loved it now. But that fight on Scarif was the Battle I have been waiting to see since 1983, return of the Jedi. Saw this one in the theaters and was shocked by how amazing the ending was.

Happy to see you watched this. I would HIGHLY recommend the Disney Plus series Andor. It is about Cassian, how the rebellion forms from a bunch of separate tribes, and gives so much more detail to the Star Wars universe. Andor is the BEST Star Wars product ever in my opinion. 12 episodes in season 1. It does not have Jedi or SIth and is very street level, but has had me crying in 4 or 5 episodes. It is INCREDIBLE!

In the original Star Wars (eventually Ep. 4 A New Hope) Darth Vader was supposed to be this horrifying intimidating character, but you don't actually see him doing anything really horrifying. He gets bossed around by Moff Tarkin and many people could not understand why he was supposed to be so fearsome.
NOW YOU KNOW.
He literally picked up and choked a rebel officer at the beginning of A New Hope and force choked Admiral Motti aboard the Death Star. 😅
And he killed Obi Wan

It’s so funny how many ppl love this movie. I was hype for it when it first came out and saw it 3times in the theater. I have loved this movie from the beginning, but a lot of folks in the Star Wars fandom online would just go in hating on Rogue One. But over the last about 7 years so many ppl have really come to love it. It makes me super happy to see the sentiment change.

Other than Empire Strikes Back I'd say this is my fav SW movie. Not just because of the Darth Vader scenes but just for the story, the cast, the look and overall feel. Gareth Edwards who directed Godzilla (2014) actually left that franchise for the chance to do this Star Wars movie. Wouldve liked to of seen him do more. Anyways, fun reaction and great movie!
I remember watching this in the theater. I said please don't suck like The Force Awakens. I was blown away by the call backs, easter eggs and how they tied it in. The best SW movie next to the original trilogy.

they bump into the 2 trouble-makers that Luke runs into at the Mos Eisley Cantina (Obi-Wan lightsabers the guy’s arm off). Understand, the end of this movie is literally the beginning of Episode 4 A New Hope.

I love experiencing Star Wars with you. You have such pure and joy for it. When everything started going down, I realized you hadn’t put the dots together about this group of folks and I felt that sadness so much as you lost each one. When most of us saw it, when knew we weren’t going to keep any of these characters so it was loss, but a loss we saw coming. To see it like you did, wow. What a joy. 💞 can’t wait for more. In my opinion, this is the best SW movie since the original trilogy!
After Return of the Jedi, for so many years, the ongoing joke was how could the Empire be so great to build a Death Star, yet leave a hole that could allow the Rebellion to blow the whole thing up. This movie wrapped it all up perfectly.
By far the only movie Disney has done that embodied the feel of the Star Wars world. Relatable characters & a good take on the storyline from the original storyline when it's stated that many lives where lost getting these plans. This movie had a great storyline, great characters, no inserted agendas, & shows how good all the rest of the Disney films could have been if they followed this format.
You were right -- the battle scene was awesome to see on the big screen in the movie theater.

Missed the Easter egg at 40:14 “I have a bad feeling about this” has been said in every single Star Wars movie. Main episodes. So they had it almost said in this one but cut it off because it isn’t a main episode movie but they threw it in as an homage

One of my favorite parts about this movie is actually from a Doctor Who novelization ("The Day of the Doctor"). For a set up, there were two movies made by American studios about Doctor Who where the title character is actually named Doctor Who, not The Doctor as in the series, and in the lore of the TV series, the movies exist as the only two pop culture references to the 'real' Doctor. And the head of UNIT says that they realized that the real Doctor became friends with the actor who played "Doctor Who", Peter Cushing, "when he suddenly started appearing in movies long after Mister Cushing had actually passed away". Yup, in the Whoniverse, it's not CGI and a vocal impersonator, it's _time travel_ that allows Tarkin to be in this movie.
This was one of the most solid Star Wars films. ❤

Donnie Yen, the blind fightter's name is Chirrut. They said he's one of the Guardians of the Whills (the old Jedi temple). The original title for Star Wars was something along the line of "From the Legends of the Whills".
Rogue One is my favorite Star Wars movie of all of them.
It's just fantastic.
This was an awesome movie. I thought it had the perfect balance of action, humour, and just a touch of romance to make it a great story. The heart and seriousness combined with the light-hearted parts made it perfect. The new characters mixed with the old ones was also a great touch. I also loved how it showed where the Rebellion got its backbone (aside from Star Wars: Rebels, at least), and how it jumped right from the end of this story to the beginning of ANH. It solved some questions and plot holes from the first movie. LOVED IT... especially since I got to see it with my cousin in his Stormtrooper uniform.
Rogue One brought all of the emotions out. The best non Lucas film. A Classic

This one, in my opinion, is the best of the Disney "Star Wars" movies so far. Got a somewhat different story, and with new characters. With a few brief cameo appearances from a few characters we've already met. And it's a good lead up to the original movie "A New Hope".
That end scene with Vader is easily one of my favorite moments in this movie. Yes. James Earl Jones, the voice of Darth Vader, is still alive. He recently just celebrated his 93rd birthday a few days ago.
Fun, but Sad Fact: Carrie Fisher(Princess Leia) passed away 11 days after this movie premiered.
Can't wait to seeing what you think of the remaining "Star Wars" movie that you have left to see: "Solo: A Star Wars Story".

(another film series you need to check out) was brilliant.
The best Star Wars movie by a long shot. To have protagonists who die is such an undervalued movie device. Knowing the ‘good guys’ prevail and survive all is tired. This movie had high stakes, convincing action and dialogue, amazing music and just a really believable and decent story.

Every Star Wars movie has a character whom at some point will say "I have a bad feeling about this !"... there are 13 instances of this phrase (or something very close) being said. It's become a 45-year running gag and every Star Wars film pays homage.
This movie was such a welcome addition to the Star Wars canon. When this came out in late 2016, the last scene with Vader in the hallway (when he slices and dices everyone) just blew all our minds at the cinema! I don’t remember how many times I went back to see this on the big screen in December 2016 / January 2017, but it must have been about 10 times. It was one of the greatest cinema experiences of all my life.

This movie is the back story for the start of the eighties Saga "Star Wars a New Hope", Episode 4. For those of you that are just getting started with the "Star Wars" Saga. I am glad that they made this movie, because there were references in thevery first movie, "A New Hope", about people who died in order to get the "Death Star" plans for the "Resistance". The characters in "Rogue One" are those people that died in order to get the plans to "General Organa", "Princess Leia's" adopted father. Leia is seen in the beginning of "A New Hope" inserting these plans into R2D2 to be delivered to "Obie One Can Obie". If you watch all of them in succession of the full story line. Then watch Episode 1,2,3, which is about "Darth Vader's" beginnings, "Luke and Leia's" birth, the introduction to the Jedi and so on. You can then watch the movie "Solo", which is the back story about "Han Solo", before you watch "Rogue One", which introduces the "Death Star". Now you are all set for the very first trilogy that came out in the eighties. Episodes 4 "A New Hope", Episode 5 "The Empire Strikes Back", and Episode 6, "The Return of the Jedi". After that marathon you can now watch Episode 7, "The Force Awakens", which is the beginning of the current trilogy, Episode 8 "The Last Jedi", and Episode 9, "The Rise of Skywalker". A great popcorn week following an epoch story that has transcended generations. George Lucas is an ingenious writer like, " JRR Tolkien (Lord of the Rings). Enjoy this epoch story.
