The drummer Vlad is a classically trained pianist - there are videos of him playing Rachmaninoff. He also picked up a guitar and played that with amazing accuracy - he has videos of him playing Pantera! His last band needed a drummer, so he started playing. Just really a musical talent. He does a lot of their musical writing now because he has such a gift. His timing is impeccable and odd might be an understatement. All together, these musicians have an innate ability to mesh everything together masterfully.
Side note - at the end of this video there is a popup to their latest official video Call Me A Symbol - it will blow your mind and if you want live, then check out their recently release version Call Me A Symbol Live in LA. 🤘

Welcome to Jinjer. They are from Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, the part annexed by Russia in 2014. Listed as metalcore, but also use elements of prog, groove metal, Djent, with in song switchups to jazzy, reggae and/or hip hop. They like to use different time signatures, often several in one song. I know 7/8 is one they like. 6 strings, often tuned to drop A.
Her name is Tatiana and yeah, she is awesome. IMO, some of the best growls, male or female. Easily switching between cleans and harsh. Vocal influences include Gwen Stefani on clean, and Otep and Randy Blythe (Lamb Of God) for the harsh.
This live session is a redo of an older song in order to showcase Vlad on drums, who had joined not long before this. He is classically trained on piano and sefl taught on drums. Jazz in his background may also explain the drum setup. Roman on guitar and Eugene on bass, along with Vlad, write the music, Tati writes most of the lyrics.
According to their website, they were formed in 2009, but consider 2010 as year of formation when Tatiana and Roman joined. (wiki says 2008/09) None of the original members remain, last one (rhythm guitarist Dmitriy Oksen) left in 2015 to pursue acting, 5 piece up til then. 4 full albums , and some EP's to date. Album #5 is being worked on.
The song is from the 2nd album, King of Everything. Pisces as in the astrological sign, the symbol for which is 2 fish swimming in opposite directions. Key word here is 'duality'. She is a Pisces, Eugene is also and helped her finish the lyrics.
More from Jinjer: the usual next step IS... to see her do it live, with "Perennial" live at Wacken 2019 or "Pit of Consciousness" live in Kiev.

I am 63 and very fortunate to spend my teens and twenties in the 70s and 80s, the two greatest rock/metal decades. I have seen well over a hundred (probably close to two hundred) bands live in my life. I saw Jinjer live for the first time almost exactly a year ago on a very hot Texas July day. Jinjer played at a small beer garden type venue and this old guy was on the rail. The three opening bands ranged from okay to pretty damn good. Jinjer, however, put on one of the best shows I have ever seen. In my opinion, Tatiana is the best current metal vocalist, male or female. Her vocal range is phenomenal, and she out sang the three opening vocalists by a mile. In one song (I think Vortex), she went so low with her harsh vocals that I felt the rumble in my gut.
In October, I am driving 8 hours to see Jinjer once again, this time with Hanabie and Born of Osiris as the opening acts. My fervent wish is that Tatiana and Yukina of Hanabie perform a song together. If at all possible, you should see Jinjer (and Hanabie) live this fall.

Hey brother! I've seen your comments before, I think we'd be friends. I just turned 62. Been listening to Zeppelin and Deep Purple since 1974. Saw Michael Schenker play with UFO in 1975. First saw Rush in 1978.
Flew to Milwaukee this year to see Jinjer for the third time since I discovered them in October '22. I'll be flying to Charlotte this October to take my daughter to her first Jinjer show. She's 28, and saw Rush with me 16x (I saw them 36x).
Where will you be seeing them this time? For those of us who know good metal throughout history, it's worth going the extra mile to see the truly special bands. You only live once! This'll be my first Hanabie show, and I'm stoked for that too!

@@ericpeterson7512 I really started getting into rock music in 1970 when I was 9 years old. My favorites became Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Grand Funk. I was allowed to buy my first rock album (actually an 8 track) at the end of 1970. My decision was between Zep III, In Rock and Closer to Home. I chose Grand Funk's Closer to Home.
I will be seeing Jinjer in San Antonio at The Aztec. It will be my first concert at The Aztec. I will enjoy The River Walk before seeing the show. BTW, next month I will be seeing Deep Purple and Yes in Fort Worth.

I'm sorry. There's a lot of us old school metalheads that adore what Jinjer has brought to metal, then we fell in love with rock again thanks to The Warning. I have tickets to see both in Atlanta within a week of each other. I can only say that I want to lock

The warning and Jinjer, my top two "contemporary" favorite Rock/Metal bands right now.
The warning brings a fresh proposition of new Rock/Pop sounds that hopefully make it into the mainstream media demonstrating that Rock can be important still today.
Jinjer blends most of the metal genres with Pop, Jazz, Blues and even Reggae, in their songs so eloquently it is nuts! Just like you I got to know Jinjer after having a fair share experience within the Metalcore/Death/Grindcore genre, but Tati´s voice (Her full name is Tatiana Shmayluk, the whole band is Ukrainian) is the cherry on top! All 4 musicians are simply talented. What Jinjer does it’s so fucking good!
For Jinjer i’d recommend Perrenial Live at Wacken 2019
As for The warning I think you should listen to something from their newest album, Six feet deep is a really good song.

Perennial live at Wacken is usually recommended as the best 2nd reaction to them.
    From there I recommend:

    Cloud Factory (live)
    Teacher, Teacher (OMV)
    Vortex (OMV)

I first heard of Jinjer on a reaction channel (don't remember who it was) and was immediately hooked. It was fun for a while watching different vocal coaches experience Tatiana's growls for the first time, and then try to explain what she was doing. Tatiana is self-taught and cannot even explain exactly how she does it. She has said that occasionally she loses the feel for how to do it and has to re-learn it.
Jinjer has been an incredibly hard-working band. With their homeland a battle zone for most of the time since 2014 they toured incessantly, playing anyplace that could pay them in order to survive. Sit, Stay, Roll Over got them signed to Napalm, but this Pisces video got them recognized. Like another group we both love they are an excellent live band.

Wonderful reaction to one of the most incredible bands out there. And like it is said about The Warning, live is their superpower. As you noticed, each member is an absolute beast of a musician. Eugene on bass, Roman on guitar, Vlad on kit, and Tatiana on vocals. Vlad is such a unique drummer, using a much different setup than normal. One of my favorite drummers to watch, there are several playthroughs on Jinjer's channel. Eugene is an absolute beast, and Roman just yesterday announced his signature Jackson baritone guitar. I love all 3 instrumentalists, but in a live setting, Tatiana is absolutely magnetic. She positively thrives on stage, yet off stage she's pretty much an introvert. Their song "Wallflower" speaks to that. Just watch everything, it's all good.

Having said that she's Russian so I don't know that I would want to piss her off😎. They have a large volume of material on TH-cam and a lot of it is live. Just guessing). I'm not nearly as good at either, but I do know that if you get the fry technique down pretty well, switching between clean and fry can definitely be done on the fly. Still not easy, mind you, but also not as hard as you might think.

Bro! Another Eric here. Great reaction! It's my first time on your channel but I'm subscribing instantly for two reasons: 1) it's Jinjer, and I love this band more than any other; 2) I'm here for your journey.
My daughter is neurodivergent, and she struggles a lot. But she's smart and funny and engaging, and she's my best friend. She comes at everything from a different angle, and I love it. She has discovered Jinjer, and she has fallen in love with them, as I have. Our favorite band has been Rush, and I was in that rut of listening to mostly Rush for years. Sierra and I saw them many times together, including at their very last show in 2015. I think I had been somewhat musically despondent since Rush retired, and especially since Neil Peart died, God rest his soul. That was like The Day the Music Died for me.
Thank Heaven I found Jinjer, my favorite band since Rush retired. They restored my faith in the beauty of metal. They bring so much to the table, as you noticed right away. They're special. Like you said, more than just a band.
Tatiana's lyrics seem quite "spectral" to me. Their sound is so incredible, and so incredibly changeable, that it might take you a little minute to fully wrap your head around it. But once you start getting into the lyrics, you'll find a world of mental/emotional exploration. This song delves into the psychology of the Pisces, focused on duality. Tatiana's voice is the perfect instrument to express duality. Her soft feminine beauty, her vulnerability, are plain for all to see/hear. Then she rips your head off with the most intimidating extreme growls and screams imaginable. There are at least three distinct vocal styles and timbres in this song. But mainly two, expressing the scale armor and the virgin innocence. And the band is supremely skillful and sensitive in augmenting the shades of expression. They know how to build intensity, how to release it, how to turn it on and off on a dime. They're like a metal jazz ensemble mixed with a classical ensemble. It's chamber music with blast beats!
You'll find explorations of various mental conditions here, including Seasonal Affective Disorder, social anxiety, depression, megalomania, narcissism, and more. They're Ukrainian, so much of it is filtered through the horror of invasion and war. But you get the colors from all across the spectrum, not just the dark ones.
Please continue with more Jinjer. I can see you're into it right away. You won't be disappointed, I promise. This band is so rewarding. They're on another level. Some songs I think you'll enjoy: Perennial live at Wacken 2019, Wallflower, Pit of Consciousness, Teacher Teacher, Vortex, the devastating Home Back. And on and on. There are not only no bad songs, there are no mediocre songs. No songs short of masterpieces really. Especially on the past few albums.
It's an especially rewarding time to be a Jinjer fan too. They just finished recording a new album that hasn't yet been released. We're expecting new songs any day now. They've said they'll be debuting unreleased material on their upcoming US tour--but before that they'll be touring European festival season, with 9 festival appearances in 15 days. After America they're touring Europe with Sepultura. They just released a new live album/DVD/blu-ray a couple months ago. And since then they released a beautiful video featuring interview and in-studio live performance of three songs that is pretty close to perfection. This is a supremely talented juggernaut firing on all cylinders, primed to take over the world. They'll never be a mainstream band (thankfully) so they'll probably never sell on the level of Metallica, Disturbed, Pantera, Meshuggah. The plus side is that you can catch them headlining at smaller venues like House of Blues, and get right up in the front row for very little money. If you like live metal shows, they don't get much better than Jinjer. This band is an obsession waiting to happen! I think you'll love them. I predict you're gonna be a big fan.

11:40 - It's not "downtuned to hell", it's just drop A, i.e. standard baritone tuning (B) with the low B string tuned down to A. The low tuning purists don't even consider it a low tuning, for them it's the same as what drop D is to standard E tuning. 🙂
This was in their early days as a 4-piece band (they were 5 until 2015 when the other guitar player and the remaining founding member left the band) and Roman was still playing a standard scale guitar, that's why he used extra thick strings to compensate for the lack of tension in that tuning. In 2018 he switched to a 6-string multi-scale and in 2019 he switched to a proper baritone, which he still uses today.

🔥Welcome to Jinjer, Eric! I just found your channel, saw your Jinjer reaction and subbed, great reaction! Thank you for bringing the fantastic genre twisting music of Jinjer to more people! I love their energy, how tight they are, how down to earth they are, the heaviness mixed with complexity and groove, beautiful singing and growling and especially Tatiana's lyrics!
The first time I heard Pisces in 2019, I hadn't liked any metal with growling and it took me a few listens to start liking it, but now Tatiana is my favorite vocalist and Jinjer my favorite band (Pisces has been my wake up alarm for a few years and I still love it more every time I hear it, snooze is a thing of the past).
TLDR: skip to the last paragraph 😂
Sorry for the long comment, I just love Jinjer too much and love seeing people discover (and usually fall in love with) them and each of their songs!
My three favorite comments about Jinjer that I've seen, "terrifying levels of talent", "I hate it when a Jinjer song ends", and a mother quoting her four year old wanting to see the "lion lady" again 🤣
All four current members of Jinjer have essentially no formal musical training except Vlad the drummer who studied classical piano. For most of their songs, the three guys write most of the instrument music, then Tatiana writes most of the lyrics and melodies (she gets tons of well deserved credit for her vocal and stage performance abilities, but maybe not quite enough for her lyrical and musical composition abilities). Roman the guitarist has written a lot of the instrument music in the past, so he's a huge part of the beautiful sound of Jinjer, but Vlad the drummer (who also plays guitar and classical piano, but so far not in most Jinjer songs - I think he played piano in lainnereP) has been writing more of it and wrote nine of the eleven songs for the last album Wallflowers (next album is done recording, but not out yet). Eugene composes some - he wrote the instrument music for one song on Wallflowers and a few songs on other albums, and I know that apart from his amazing work on the bass, he adds riffs and has written lyrics for a few Jinjer songs.
Jinjer has been a tour-heavy band, touring almost nonstop from 2013 to 2020 and much of the time since then (with interruptions by covid and the US backed coup/proxy war), hard work that has made them fantastic live performers. The band (all members have been Ukrainian, with Russian their first language) started in eastern Ukraine (Donetsk) in 2008 as a group of three (then five) with none of the current members (they consider the official start of the band when Tatiana replaced the male vocalist and Roman joined as lead guitar 2009/2010), Vlad is the fifth drummer (joined in 2016) and it's been a group of four since 2015 (though they consider their road sound engineer Sasha to be a fifth member). I think they're still friends with all the former members and you can see their former guitarist turned actor, Dmitry Oksen, in older videos on guitar and a more recent video (Disclosure) playing an interrogator.
One of the things I love most about Jinjer is the messages in Tatiana's lyrics and the way she combines growling and beautiful singing with Jinjer's fantastic instrumentals to be so powerful for expressing the anger and pain in those messages: the anti-war message in Home Back, the anti-greed in On The Top, Mediator and No Hoard Of Value (also the horror of the coal mining industry in their home Ukraine), the protest song Who Is Gonna Be The One, the anti-fascism of Sit Stay Roll Over, the anger at people being narrow minded in Teacher Teacher and Judgment & Punishment, the struggles with mental health in Pit Of Consciousness, Vortex, Wallflower and Perennial, the giving voice to mother nature angry at humanity for letting capitalism destroy her in a bunch of songs like Ape, The Prophecy, Cloud Factory, Noah, Outlander and Bad Water. Other favorites are I Speak Astronomy, Retrospection, Words of Wisdom, Just Another, Captain Clock, Scissors, Exposed As A Liar, I Want It I'll Get It, A Plus Or A Minus, Dip A Sail, When Two Empires Collide, lainnereP, Prologue and Beggar's Dance (those last two are short album bookends that could do well together in one reaction if you're so inclined).
I haven't found a Jinjer song I don't love, so I think you can't go wrong if you choose any of them, but a few good choices might be Perennial (official and/or live at Wacken 2019, both are must-see), Teacher Teacher (official is the studio audio with some great footage from several shows), Judgement & Punishment (official and/or Tatiana's one take performance, again both must-see), Pit of Consciousness (official and/or live in Kiev/Kyiv, a third where both are absolutely must-see) or the heartwrenching plea against war in Home Back (official video).
Thank you, Eric! I hope you'll keep trying out more Jinjer songs and enjoy! ❤🖤🤘

Good call picking up on the awesome drum work in this performance. Vlad is a master of ghost notes, dynamics, subtle & intricate playing, & making the most of a minimalistic kit (he has added a *lot* of cymbals in more recent years). This recording was done to showcase his work as he had recently joined the band. He's their 5th drummer, and although they've all been excellent, he's my favourite. Vlad has composed the lion's share of their music in recent years, and is classically trained on piano and is a fine guitarist as well.
Tatiana is master of an astonishing range of vocal styles and of dynamics and emotional expression. She's also a highly charismatic front woman. She writes most of the lyrics and vocal melodies.
Eugene's inventive, often melodic bass work features plenty of tapping, slapping and big chords to fill in their sound in spite of their being an instrumental 3-piece. He also contributes some lyrics.
Roman is an incredibly creative riff monster and master of some fairly bizarre rhythms and highly colourful, often dissonant chords. He also writes plenty of music for the band, and is kind of an unsung hero in the band.
    They are amazingly tight live.
The usual recommendation for a second reaction is "Perennial" Live at Wacken 2019. Since you're not a metal newbie, you really can't go wrong on a second reaction. My favourite live performances include "Who is Gonna Be The One" official live (heavy groove with a surprise ending), "Pit of Consciousness" Live in Kiev 2019 (very heavy and groovy with lots of creative riffage and a tremendous showcase for Tatiana's harsh vocal range), "Outlander" official live (more of a straight-up metalcore song with an infectious riff performed in a small venue), "Call Me A Symbol" Live at Hellfest 2022 (Tatiana being *very* charismatic), and "Captain Clock" live at Resurrectionfest 2018 (guitar sound is kind of bad, but Tatiana is incredible - if you're a guitar aficionado, check out Roman's guitar playthrough as well).

I think it would be worth your while to watch the entire Wacken 2019 video to see her command the crowd and end up totally exhausted at the end. Jinjer are a progressive metal band, so they use a lot of non-standard time signatures. I Speak Astronomy goes through four in the first minute and the riff in the first two verses will tie a knot in your brain! Almost all of their songs have a combination of clean and harsh vocals in various ratios. Tatiana can not only do that high belt she can also do bowel-loseningly low growls (check out Vortex for an example).

I think you might enjoy another rabbit hole with a band called Bloodywood. They classify themselves as Indian street metal. Machi Bhasad or Aaj would be good jumping off points. Bloodywood are, I believe, in the studio making their second album. Another interesting up and coming band that I would recommend is The Cost. They have a sound that reminds me of Queens of the Stone Age but heavier. Yet another band with amazing amounts of talent. Not the one from the late 90's but this year. You can find their songs on the TH-cam channel El Estepario Siberiano. He's an insanely talented drummer but the guitarist and bassist he picked are just as talented on their own. Both bands are worth the look.
