I am from the UK and have more of a snooker background and if playing a colour after potting a red it might be unclear what colour the player is aiming for, they call out or nominate a colour and then the referee repeats the call. I don't know if something similar exist in pool but if not then perhaps they should introduce it, so that the referee, both players and fans cannot dispute matters if everyone hears the referee repeat the call.
@@usauser3163if the game were merely about making the balls in the pockets, it would be pretty easy. But pool players use way more spin to accomplish their cue ball positions than snooker players because every single game’s ball layout is unique, unlike snooker.
From what seen and I've played pool for 30 plus years. Even if Mika didn't call the shot but he most likely did, it was a obvious combo. To make such seen about it was a likely attempt at desperation. Anything to get another shot and win. That's how seen it.
It's not about being obvious. it's that tournaments rule. You have to call a ball because if the ball would've followed then it would be an illegal shot because he didn't call the ball that followed. You have to call one or the other. 🤷♂️

Worst sportsmanship I've seen in quite some time. He acted like a little child when he screamed "Yes!! Yes!!" And then told him to sit back down. He shoukd have just let the ref explain the call and the ruling and after it was done gone about the business at hand. No need to run your mouth and be immature. Jeff de luna is also extremely bad sport, he is known among the players for the antics and sharking. Mika knew jeff is a shark thats probably why he got so heated. And i dont like what mika did here, he was abnoxious but atleast hes not a cheater like jeff

So one thing I have learned about billard after joing a APA league is that when it comes to tournaments you better be clear ont he rules and clear when you make a call. Just like in other sports Im not going to tell a ref he is wrong when he calls something on my opponent. Tournaments get insane when it comes to bringing out rules. If the 9 was sitting on the opposite middle pocket and making it would have been unintentional. When the 9 hangs on pocket and literally no way to make the another ball in that pocket makes it obvious even without calling.
I don’t like to see players shout in each others faces…but it was super disrespectful to accuse him of lying and to try to win the game dishonorably. I totally back Mika telling him to go sit down. Any decent pool player paying attention knew he was going for the nine.
You can hear Deluna go up to him after and explain that he didn’t hear it, what an absolute tool the dude in blue is. Is it so hard to believe maybe the guy just didn’t hear you?
You have to call your shot to your opponent or the ref. You can't just whisper it to yourself and say you "called it." This is why 9-ball will always be better than 10-ball because you don't have to call anything in 9 ball. If it goes in, it counts, no argument about calling shots in 9-ball. In 10-ball it becomes a complete shit-show fighting over calling a shot.
I gotta say, seeing a video of a heated moment and mika is playing, you come into the video thinking that he will be wrong.. But he was right on that, he did call it.
So you missed the fact that Deluna intentionally did that to get under his skin that’s what made Immonen so upset which he had every right that was a low down dirty thing to do. Two wrongs don’t make a right but don’t just call out Mika. That’s bs.
you have to call the shot to your opponent or to the ref. You cannot just whisper it to yourself and expect everyone to know you called it. the use off instant replay in this particular situation was irrelevant. 💥For those of you that are saying he doesn't have to call the shot because it's an obvious shot. Here is the written rule on a combo shot in this tournament hope this helps 👇 6.0 CONTINUING PLAY - CALL POCKET On the shot immediately following a legal break and/or a Push Out, the shooting player must contact the lowest numbered ball on the table or it is a foul. Unlike 9-Ball, 10-Ball is a “Call Pocket” game and the shooter is encouraged to specify all balls along with their intended pocket. However, obvious balls and their respective pockets do not have to be specified. Any bank shot (object ball to rail), kick shot (rail(s) to object ball), or combinations (2 or more balls) must be called to their designated pocket, or they are considered a miss. When a player successfully pockets the designated object balls, they continue their inning until either a miss, foul, or win occurs.

It was oblivious shot combo. I lose respect to players that try to pull a desperate move to false a shot on someone when person about to win. I saw one match where shane van boening make a straight corner shot 10 ball win the track then ref foul him and his opponent didn't back him up that the match wasn't over but Shane forefeit saying F THIS and break him cues down and left. I'm on shane side on that. I would've left too.

@STUDENTOFSCRIPTUREMANOFGOD I agree with you. If no one follows the rule then there is no point playing pool. Just like playing chess, you make one move you cannot move back because that is the rule, cannot be saying "oh it is obvious I don't want to make that move or my hand slipped etc", it's just unsportsmanlike. De Luna did nothing wrong. Mikas back was turned to him when he made the shot call, so he couldn’t possibly see it. He remained seated until the ref called the foul. Perfectly reasonable. Then Mika treated him disrespectfully because Mika was pissed that he missed 2 easy shots earlier.
Sadly, this clip alone made me lose all respect for De Luna. He was clearly playing an intentional combination and Jeff was throwing a fit and trying to get a free turn. If I was Mika, I would’ve been fuming mad also.
This happened to my teammate and I can tell you that when the opponent contested it, it does raise your anger level. In the moment, you feel that the opponent is trying to win on a technicality, knowing full well your intended pocket as everyone else is witnessing too. The pocket is called, and is attempting to find anyone who will agree. This is poor sportsmanship and to me, is fully understandable that a reaction such as Mika’s can occur. Sure, he could’ve diffused the situation, but what would you do if your opponent is trying to steal the match? In this case, it’s for money. That makes it even more tenable.
At first I didn't but at 5:57 you can definitely hear Mika say 9 ball, right before the announcer says five nine. That's a stupid thing to have to call. Pretty sad if you try to win from that type of technicality. The worst thing is losing your temper and acting like that.

It’s petty, but I see no fault in Mika. High stakes raises importance of each play. Question: was it the ref who questioned the nine ball call? De Luna appeared surprised but not reserved to try and take advantage of questioning. This eagerness to jump in, despite it appearing as a pretty obvious combination play, and a minor technicality question, is what blistered Mika’s nerves. Easy to understand De Lunas eagerness with high stakes,…. He did seem to manage conceding initially after the review. Mika’s outburst is simple to expect, but it also triggered De Luna’s continuation of the challenge. At that point, respect was lost, what’s to loose by continuing the challenge? So, Mika should have been more collected than shouting “yes”. Emphasizing the future calls is ok. The “yes” was mocking and disrespectful. De Luna had no other way to challenge back, but can’t really expect him to absorb without any response. Could be better for all to stop, take 2 min.. Ref can improve by taking the control. Sitting each player, taking credit f original questioning, acknowledge it could have been an issue of a quiet verbal by Mika, but the explain the words were mouthed, and the combination was simple and clear to see. Players frustration would be directed away from each other. They’d have a moment allowed to collect, and move forward. Simple, dummy

It would be better if they created more responsible content and thought things through."
(1) The combo was blatantly obvious. Everyone watching, and everyone involved knew what the shot was gonna be, regardless if Mika called it or not. But, you could see on Jeffrey's face, before the shot, he was looking for anything to give him a chance, cause he knew Mika was gonna run that table. Jeffrey was hoping and praying Mika wouldn't call that 9, so he could take advantage of a rule, even though he knew the 9 was the intended ball. That is childish. (2) Mika, in turn, was acting childish after the incident. I know it can sometimes be difficult to control emotions when those things happen, but by continuing the antics, Mika was showing that he is really no different. He also has a chance of screwing up his own concentration, and the commentators knew that. Both were acting childish. As the ref said, when breaking them up, they needed to start acting like professionals. These type of incidents may get some people excited, and interested, but they turn me away. I enjoy watching the pros shoot, but I can't stand crybabies and whiners. Jeffrey tried to abuse a rule to get a last chance, and it failed, and Mika couldn't let it go.

The shot was beyond obvious. Even if he didn't mouth the call I wouldn't have been so petty as to question it. He was right to be pissed. As far as sportsmanship goes there was just alot of emotion when he was challenged, it just came out when he was challenged. Anyone would have reacted the same way.
The look on Jeffery’s face before he even makes the shot, you can tell he’s pissed off and he was trying to get arise out of Mika and he succeeded. Mika could’ve handled that a little better, but I can see where he’s coming from.
i personally love the intensity. if its a sport and there is big money on the line, why wouldnt you be upset about a bad call. people accept this sort of passion in every other sport. its good for viewership, and contraversy gets it on peoples radars. it makes the sport bigger.
It’s absolutely clear to see that he was trying to do a combo on the nine. This is why calling shots kinda ruins the game when you fixate on the tiniest of details. You said you’d hit a draw shot into the nine,… not a follow shot!!!! You lose!

💥For those of you that are saying he doesn't have to call the shot because it's an obvious shot. Here is the written rule on a combo shot in this tournament hope this helps 👇
6.0 CONTINUING PLAY - CALL POCKET
On the shot immediately following a legal break and/or a Push Out, the shooting player must contact the lowest numbered ball on the table or it is a foul.

It’s absolutely clear to see that he was trying to do a combo on the nine. This is why calling shots kinda ruins the game when you fixate on the tiniest of details. You said you’d hit a draw shot into the nine,… not a follow shot!!!! You lose!
Be professional.. SAY it loud enough to be heard
I have never seen a professional pool player act so unprofessionally. That’s disgusting.
The grandstanding did not help after he got the call in his favor. I've had moments like this. they hook me and grandstand on the safety. I get out and pot the ball anyway, and that usually shuts them up. Let your game do your talking.
It's pretty hard to "shut them up" when it was the ref that brought it up.
@@dustinp26 Actually, I was just referring to the reaction on Immonen's part after the calling went his way. He boasted a bit there towards De Luna. That set off De Luna. It spiraled from there. It might not have been as drama laden if Mika just shot on...IMO
@@dustinp26 Regarding the shot... it was the obvious shot. I would not have stood up. I would let the ref and player fight it out. Then go with however the final call goes. If I was De Luna. Mika should have spoken louder on that nine ball shot. However, that is just me. Sometimes I do get wrapped up in my own world playing that I forget to call out shots. No judgement here. All this is just my observations.
@@michaelmcdonald6794 your first reply completely misunderstood my comment so I'm just gonna ignore it. De Luna stood up because the ref also didn't think Mika called it. Otherwise the ref would've just said continue shooting and wouldn't need to check it.
@@dustinp26 You have that backwards. You missed my original point. My first comment was not aimed at the shot nor the call by the ref. It was totally aimed at the reaction by Mika from around 6:57 to 6:59. That was not needed and only added fuel to the fire. He should have just gotten up and played on. No theatrics. Do you get it now?
I think Mika felt cheated by the initial questioning of that shot. He looked really unsettled the whole game, i would love to see the entire match and also find out whether he has a history of having bad calls made against him. As he would of well known, he should have been disqualified for shouting like that at another player. Red carded, it is completely unacceptable in a professional sporting event like this one, especially as it is all on video.
Luna is trying to play the “I didn’t see him say it game” from the chair. Idc that Mike got in his face. The play was very obvious, and Luna making a big deal about it is bush league….so ya know what? Mike decided you wanna play that way? Fine, now I’m going to embarrass you….they both were unprofessional…don’t just target Mike because he felt Luna was trying to pull a fast one on him because he knew he was going to lose.
Am I the only one hoping he'd somehow blow the run out?
I was playing at a pool tournament at the Hollywood hard rock café. I had 15 minutes before my match. I walked out the practice tableware Eminem, who is Practicing I kindly asked if I could get some practice before my match, and I was shocked from his reaction when he told me to fuck off and go away. I could not believe the disrespects that a professional player would give to an amateur instead of inspiring. Somebody turns him against that player who is disrespectful. I wonder if I’m the only one he talked to that way as well just wanna know if I know how he is, thank you.
Poor sportsmanship is no stranger to modern sports
Reyes probably would have just let him have the turn
(well maybe not...he'd made sure he called the 9 ball
loud enough for De Luna to hear it)
Mika should have just let the ref settle it
the shout at de Luna was out of order regardless - very toxic atmosphere. I love it lol
Why did I think there was a 99% chance the one being disrespectful was the white guy and not the Asian guy
there was several chances earlier to pot the 9ball ...... a bank @2:57 ? to pot 9ball ? Earl stickland woulda nailed that !!
Mika was on the right, De Luna was trying to cheat him out of that run. And he reacted that way, because De Luna keep mumbling stuff under his breath, you can clearly see it, even after it was all said and that, De luna was still crying to the ref.
Yea those pesky rules. It doesnt matter if he said it, his opponent or the ref HAS TO HEAR IT. What is so difficult to understand about that?
@@WES_5150 And after the review, no pesky rules were broken, that's why he won. What's so difficult to understand about that?
Jason Shaw's no saint, either. He was playing Earl. Earl called the 2, which wasn't even on the table. He shot and made the 10 (also blue like the 2). It was obvious what he meant, but Jason made a scene about it.
