Confident Young PLAYER Did NOT EXPECT this COMEBACK from Old EFREN REYES

- "Efren 'Bata' Reyes is undeniably the greatest pool player of all time, and at age 68, he continues to prove his prowess. Displaying an amazing performance on the pool table, he faces off against a confident American player who may have underestimated him due to his age. However, Efren's exceptional skill defies expectations, stunning everyone with his performance in the later part of the game."

West Virginia here. Been watching Efren since the late '80's. Met him, the first time, in 'new' airport, in Denver, in 1994. (When the new airport still wasn't open due to baggage handling problems.) They had to move us to Stapleton.
He was surprised anyone (me) recognized him. We spoke for about 30 minutes. It was an honour. His English wasn't as good, as it is now, but he was so graciius, and humble. Most players, were anything, but.
Throughout the later '90's, I was fortunate enough to watch and even get beat, by him, quite a few times.
He has certainly lost a step, but at his age it's no wonder. (My eyesight started going when I was in my early 50's.) I quit playing 15 years ago.
The kid he played, played like a scrub. Each shot he took, in a couple racks, he got more out of position.
Regardless, Mr. Reyes *is* the G.O.A.T.!
Would that be the city of West Virginia 🤪
@@toddo.7819
No, it would not.
That's not Efren talking in the video. It's an Artificial Intelligence.
@@fatbastard3372
Hehe I know. I just know his English has gotten much better, over the years. When I first met him, we had a hard time communicating. As time went on, it got much easier.
You may be the perfect person to ask this question, I too am a massive Reyes fan but I unlike yourself, have never gotten the chance to meet him...
My question is this, people say that as insanely talented and incredible Erfen was in the late 80's and 90's, his actual PEAK PRIME self was much earlier. Like early 80's even late 70's.
It's very difficult to find video of Efren earlier then 88'.... so I'd love to know if this is true or not??
It's really generous of Efren to continue playing against top tier players in public events even when he's well past his prime. Many more egotistical players would hang their jersey to avoid public humiliation, but the Magician keeps performing for all his fans.
Because he has bad spending habits. Too many debts to pay.
That's surprising to hear given he's such a humble guy. What kind of things does he splurge on?
And I presume also the money he receives to play. Plus, it's pool, not rugby. He probably can play for another 10 years before being past his pool prime. 😂
@@saillsha Don't believe the guy... He doesn't know Efren personally
@@saillshathere's a documentary/interview on Efren where he mentioned that he and his family don't know how to handle money (meaning not really financially savvy)... So whenever he earns money... They just buy properties... And just leave it... Efren doesn't splurge.... You can see videos of him playing in the Philippines wearing sandos and sandals
In essence... Efren is property rich but not financially liquid (if you get what I mean)
Too many interruptions / clips. Let the pool speak for itself .
No need to have the crowd fake “oh!” after every miss. Terrible.
I have no idea why he thinks adding in all the extra sound effects is a good idea.
My fellow countrymen seem to adore the idea 🤷🏾 I never understood that concept
As a snooker fan, I find those sounds to be quite annoying. Efren is a sublime master, snooker fans won't like these effects.
You are very right!
Disgusting.
overly edited video with sound effects, the content is just enough to enjoy without it all
EFREN looked tired but somehow he managed 🎉 GOAT
I like the video but not the fake gasping from the crowd. It’s distracting and so fake.
In my opinion this is a textbook example of a hustle.
I love Efren but this was just bad shooting, on both ends.
@@jax9074definitely not Efren at his best. He missed some shots that, in his prime, the ball would have just said don’t bother and moved itself into the pocket. 😁
Old man eyes. A curse
Yea. He was laying up a lot. Playing with his food.
Opponent "I only need one more win, and he needs four."
Efren-"I've got him right where I want him."
😂
I will say, Efren still has one of the best full strokes the game has ever seen. These days in the pro game, pool strokes are fairly short and controlled, but Efren still takes full strokes on his shots and his feel is still incredible. I miss seeing the artistry in pool
Watching from Maryland, USA 🙏🏾
I totally agree. Watching from New Jersey, USA.
I’ve always envied his stroke. It’s so smooth, full and fluid. I’ve practiced and practiced but I just can’t get his stroke down.
I have seen Efren do this sooo many times in the last several years of watching him on YT. you just can't give the GOAT an Opportunity or all is lost. great video thanks for sharing. ECF
No doubt! Thanks!
72 yo from Virginia here. If I knew “ The Magician “ was going to be in, I’m guessing, Richmond I would have loved to come and watch in person. I have watched many of his tournaments over the years via TH-cam and enjoyed how he is very humble and no ego driven like some of his opponents.
I love the contrast between him and Earl Strickland when they played. As “expressive” as Strickland was at any given time, I think that Efren was quiet and never got flustered caused him to be even more vocal and I think Efren knew that and took advantage of it. 😂
@@malcolmr3 agreed. You could see it in the twinkling in his eyes and the suppressed grin on his lips.
@@malcolmr3 Right you are! In poker you can spot some move or "tell ". All Efren has to do is play his game and snooker Earl into an emotional state if mind@ it's done all the time !!
He was in the beautiful city of Virginia. News to me that VA has become a city, but I guess it is what it is. I also didn't know that Times Square was part of Virginia.
Turns out it was actually at Street Lights Billiards Academy in Alexandria, VA.
Ich bin großer Fan.. es sollte als Privileg und Ehre gesehen werden mit sich mit Ihm messen zu dürfen..!!
ich bin the don.
Honestly, it looked like he was letting him win the first half. Pure skill 💯
That's not skill. He was setting the kid up. He had another guy trying to set up side bets with the gamblers. The kid was shook after the 3rd match. He lost in his mind and Efren knew it. Once you tell yourself that the other person won because you missed a simple shot... Your brain goes to mush. You hit survival mode. Praying for another chance. Then... It doesn't eben matter. He can give you ball in hand and you won't win. Because you told yourself that you already lost. It takes a stone cold player to blick that crap out. Efren is able to do that. But he ain't the GOAT.
@@realamerican911 Efren frequently engages in this type of dramatic acting, even during competitions, to make it appear more captivating. It will no longer be fascinating if he demonstrates his genuine abilities, that much is certain.
I got the impression that he was sandbagging, but watching the whole video, maybe not. Time for Bata to go fishing. He has nothing more to prove, and playing now must be very frustrating for him.
Efren is now and always the G.O.A.T.! I love these videos.
Seeing from the misses he did here, Efren must have lost a lot of his magic touches due to aging, BUT not all! I wish him good health n may the Magician still keep a good chunk of magic up his sleeves to keep entertaining us all. Salute from Indonesia!
I think he missed on purpose
Ahahahaha you dont know anything about efren
@@kamoteman8860 ... OK, you know everything about him, you're the living encyclopedia about him... Satisfied now, dude? Just send him respect and best regards from me, the guy who knows nothing about him. 🙏🏼😂
I'm from the Philippines and we know he purposely missed those shots
@@naturalmystic1262 stop dreaming bro.. efren is old. Our eyes will be obscured when we get old that's a fact. The eyes are the most important in playing billiards because that's where you gauge where to hit the ball, measure the distance, and determine whether the you should hit the shot soft or hard.
Watching from Al Khobar , Kingdom of Saudi Arabia my favorite Efren Reyes
Nothing like watching the OG still at work! Toronto, Canada
The added background crowd noise really takes away from the great pool and also the video itself. Really could do without the fake crowd noise. Either way, I still appreciate the video!
I think he let the kid get a 4 game win to give the kid a chance 😂
Sfxsuaagfx haahhh!!!0aoa
TooIoilo efrenbut hate ,thischannel!!
The edit yes very bad
From New Hampshire in the North East USA. Efren is the best ever.
As much as I like watching Efren play pool, I hate the phony crowd gasping sound effects. I’m out.
You ain’t lying. I almost turned it off when it said “the city of Virginia, United States”
@@thomaspettusg8316Yeah, I did shut it off at that point. (I found your message first)
Yep. Can't do it.
Exactly
It's way overused
I'm a retired Canadian living in Mindanao. My neighbour introduced me to Efran and I've enjoyed watching a few matches.
I am in Israel.
I am sorry to see age finally catching up with Efren. He is still the GOAT imo and I am glad he came back to win here.
Please pray for the Palestinians
Free free Palestine 😤 From River to the sea 🇵🇸
It appears and based on Efren's spectacular skills, he was playing with this young man who was not yet born when Efren was already winning tournaments.😂❤🇵🇭 GO EFREN KABAYAN!
Ive never seen Efren miss so much, but I love the comeback. The Magician still has it.
"The Magician still has it."
Well,....
I love watching the old masters (Mosconi) but Efren is definitely the GOAT. It would have been fun to watch him and Mosconi play when both were in their prime. THAT would be a match for the ages.
15:22 Love seeing him play! From Chicago! awesome shooting GOAT!
Watching from Vancouver and I'm Filipino. .
HELLO from Florida my friends...I am a 61 Year old man that has been a long time 9 ball fan and amateur player. Love the challenge over 8 ball. Faster games and more skills required. I find that I play better when I play with a good player. .the better they are the better I get. I lost my que a while back in a divorce.....kinda stove up now so I am more of a fan than player anyway...
That miss in the last frame was an obvious deliberate miss.
THJIS HUMBLE MAN HS WON MY HEART!!! I LOVE WATCHING HIM -PLAY OVER AND OVER AGAIN... NO METTER OLD HE IS!!!
No one should ever underestimate the skill of Efren Reyes!!
I love the competitiveness of Efren (The GOAT) even now. Hats off to Broner, and he will learn to never give the old guy any extra chances. I hope Efren keeps on playing. He is wonderful for the sport. Johnny Henson Professor Pool USA
Long time fan of the magician! Viewing from the surface of the globe ;)
I like when he gives his opponents false hope then bam
Efren just toyed with him.. win or lose efren is a great sport and a humble man
Hello, i'm watching The G.O.A.T. from Denmark. Thanks for these great uploads.
Shoot em straight and stay safe. /Chris.
Wow...what a great from the legend...All the way from India
Watching from California . . . always a pleasure to watch his playing.
You learn so much watching Efren play! Even at his age, he's still a great player! Lucky to have met him in person at a tournament in L.A. Such a humble and nice man! He is indeed the GOAT- No debating it!
I discovered him on this channel. Favorite player 🇨🇦👍
Didn't know that Virginia was a Beautiful City. I'll have to go there sometime.
I live in Angeles City, Pampanga, and was fortunate enough to "play" one game with Efrin at the old "Blind Beggar" here in Clarkview about ten years ago. He was great fun as he would let players break then he would "play safe" for about ten shots before running the table..."Next!"
Watching from the philippine. We used to live in the same neighborhood with Efren
Im from SOUTH AFRICA..and have a passion for Pool. Efren is the Worlds Best.. and my Mentor aswell.. i admire his skills and patience.. love you Sir Efren
Watching from York PA!
Rule number one when playing someone at Efren Reyes' level - don't miss. One mistake is costly. Nice to see he's still playing! He and Ewa Mataya were my two favorite players back in the day. I always liked their strategies, and learned a lot from watching them. Bought the books, did the drills, got good myself. :) I always liked Ewa's strategy for getting around the table, and Efren was unbelievable at playing safety.
All of Efren is the best man! Thanks for the vids
Reminds of a 72 yr old hustler I played against growing up. He would always take his time getting warmed up I thought) we started out at $2 up to $5 then to $10 by 20 all the pressure was on me and I beat myself.
Efren is such a champion, not only in his skill but also in his quiet, humble demeanour. Respect, sir. From Australia.
Amazing Efren Reyes....love watching him work his craft! I'm out of Washington Mo...home of Spitball Charlie, trick-shot specialist and great guy!
Efren is the Man!
EFREN IS A BEAUTIFUL, UNASUMING GENIUS. Thanks for your video. Oliver from Brittany (France)
i love Efren truly the king. watching from Northern Ontario, Canada.
Cleveland Ohio area. Really enjoy your work.
Great match! Congrats Efren Bata Reyes!!
I only beat people that say they are good and lose to people that say they don't know how to play and I make the hard shots look easy..65 still enjoy the game...yours very truly Alfonso Cantu USMC
Just mute it if the audio isn't for you. Still a good watch!
¿Introduces Virginia, then almost immediately shows New York City in the 90's?
I always wanted to see him play live. However, this may be the the next best thing.
I really like the atmosphere in your videos. somehow mysterious music with your own voice and that accent of yours makes it quite relaxing for me and i think its in harmony with efren reyes style of playing as well. A very big thanks!🙏
Glad you enjoy it! Thanks for the support!
Yes, I agree and thanks for your videos. But… the fake crowd noises - the shocked "oh" sounds - really don't add to the video. Your audience doesn't need fake sounds edited in to tell us when something surprising or important has happened. It doesn't sound at all realistic and is just annoying.
The boy, of course, gave in in order to prolong this game longer. I constantly watch broadcasts of Efren “Bata” Reyes’ games in 2024. (on different channels), he still plays quite well, although the magic has become less. He was clearly out of shape in this game, which is sad. But even after this game he had great matches with magical shots. Thanks for the channel and your work!
Thanks buddy!
North Carolina USA Efron is the man. Thanks for the video.
Young guy didn't want to look like a bully beating up on an old man. Much love to Broner for showing us his A game, and then taking a dive. CLASSY!
Efren now has an old kung Fu master aura. Lol
don't mind the haters brother, you are unique and great at what you do. ❤ be yourself and never let anyone tell you what to do❤
Watching in the Philippines. Efren still the G.O.A.T.
Virginia being a city and not a state is crazy
Tuning in from Canada
I have not played in many years. But i had a knack of playing in accordance with my competition and always coming from behind like this.
From Vancouver Island BC 🇨🇦
Legend!
Efren sir, YOU used to be that young player! You are incredible man!
Always have respect for the big dog never underestimate the legendary Ethan Reyes
I'm glad to see my legend playing again
He's great but why do you talk about another man as if you aren't a man yourself. My legend? That's weird man, other countries idolize their players as if their not human. He's a great player and I love to watch him play but jeeze. He's still just a man
Roanoke, Virginia. Love watching the great Efren. Just to clarify, Virginia is a state, and the lead in pics was not any part of Virgina. But love the great Efren.
Watching from The Adirondack Mountains, Upstate New York. I LOVE POOL!
Watching from the Philippines.
Still the best of them all, Efren The Magician!
I a tuning in from Portland Oregon
Watching from the Philippines...yes I agree efren is also 68..he is old
Virginia is not a City inside the United States of America as you say. It’s a State.
Pinoy pa rin!👏👏👏
🥰 Efren is very kind perrson. He likes to give a chance if necessary.🤗
First, Virginia is a state, not a city. Second, that's my friend Brandon (not Broner) playing against Efren in the exhibition and he is one of the nicest, most humble up-and-comers in our area and was so happy to even get the chance to play the GOAT.
From Utah watching my all-time favorite.
I wish I could play half as well as Efren. Watching from Charlotte, North Carolina.
I probably haven't watched enough of efren Reyes but this is the first time I see him use an extender
YEAH, He rarely uses it. Or none at all.
Same here.
An Australian in Paris. I love watching Efren play.
I got to watch him play regularly in Jersey! Total master!!
Watching from JOLO, SULU🇵🇭
From the Philippines here. That is why he is called the Magician!
San Antonio Texas, efran will always be #1!!!
Efren Reyes is still the greatest pool player of all time. Am a fan from Masbate, Philippines. God bless!!!!
US over here.
after plenty of misses, the great Efren settled in and found his groove.
pool is like that...tiny tiny angles equal sink or miss...
I'm hope that kid didn't lose a pocketful of money with that hustle. 🎱😎
Tuning in from Missouri City, Texas
Watching The Goat from South Africa...
Old goat vs. nevous novice. Old goat wins. Love the channel and thd sound effects. This match needed the added spice.
Virginia is a state!
I find it more memorising to watch a genius play snooker, that's tremendous skill right there
Great match. Watching from Thailand.
