I’m glad Sonic isn’t a laughing stock anymore. He can be the character he always wanted to be. A hero searching for endless adventure. Someone who always steps in when people need help. Sonic inspires all. Like it or not. IGN finally realizes how good the new show is and the game of Frontiers.
They realised the series isn’t nearly as hate-able anymore, so they’re likely just trying to maintain their reputation. The moment sonic has a misstep, they’ll be back to shitting on him.
That was a whole lot of floundering and excuses for what could have easily been summarized as "skill issue" on his part. It takes balls to admit when you're wrong and I can respect that, but it's not going to undo the damage of his original statements. Also, maybe this is just me, but it kinda tilts me that Sonic got one good 3D game in the last 2 decades and now people are suddenly turning tail like they weren't just trashing the franchise weeks prior to Frontiers release. 🙄 IGN is gonna have to do a lot more than a weak "lol sorry" Either way, Sonic fans stay winning.

Here the thing about the whole situation: Like, the statement in and of itself wasn't the problem, you can have your personal opinion that Sonic was just never good, it was never your thing and whatnot, that fine; the PROBLEM was is that he made it out as fact and shove it into people's faces instead of an actual subjective opinion hence why many Sonic fans ganged up on him and the entirety of IGN for saying such things like that and they rightfully called them and making fun of them for 6 years, and now he's finally realized that. It's totally okay if you like or don't like Sonic, you can have your personal feelings about the franchise and all that but don't treat anything as factual statements and if you do, then don't be surprised and playing the victim or something when fans of the franchise come in and make fun of you just because of what you said. That's the whole thing about this entire 6 year debacle between Sonic fans and IGN. At the same time, you can't really blame other people and fans too much for feeling upset and disappointed about Sonic's state at the time in 2016 because during that, the franchise has been consistently getting bad games both mainline and spinoffs in the eyes of many and because of that, again you can't really blame them too much for feeling that and now things have completely changed and now the franchise finally got back the reputation and respect from many and people now enjoy Sonic again with the things that have come out this year especially with how Frontiers turned out. It's great time than ever for Sonic fans with how the future is gonna be for Sonic. Sorry if this is too long for you to read 😅

I think a lot of Sonic fans overreacted to it and held a grudge, much like how they still hold a grudge over a 14-year-old Unleashed review by someone who hasn't worked at IGN for 12 years. LOL Don't get me wrong, it's nice to see Sonic being more well-received, but more Sonic fans need to learn to respect opinions they disagree with, as well as be the bigger person and shrug it off whenever someone says stuff like "Sonic was never good".
I agree holding grudges isn't best way to go around it. Ign have gotten better, and been fair Sonic for most part. A few people not liking Sonic in ign doesn't make company as Whole Sonic haters. I'm happy to see this guy be won over by Sonic now. People really need to let Unleashed, and Gamescoop thing go people been hyperfoucusing on those 2 things for too long. 2022 as year been great for Sonic though I'd admit that. Bruh it's not just someone's opinion, he's a professional and paid video game journalist/critic who has power and influence over the public's perception over the products he talks about. They're JOB is to--among other things--report about and criticize a product while keeping in mind and being in touch with the intended audience and the general consumer. Nobody's perfect, and hopefully nobody expects them to be perfect, but this was a crystal clear example of their own bias causing them to say something unprofessional and subjective, and thus causing easily identifiable consequences. The worst of which is the enabling of the slandering, gaslighting, and bullying of the Sonic community; a community that is well-known for being gender nonconforming, neurodivergent, and people from ages 8-15. AKA: some of the most vulnerable and emotionally sensitive people out there. It's no wonder Sonic fans are so defensive.

EDIT: I know you said that a lot of Sonic fans are 8 to 15 years old, and I'm willing to cut them slack for being immature since they're not adults, but trust me, plenty of adults in the fanbase are also immature.
