These Tidbit videos always have alot of interesting projects and are packed full of great information. I lost my dad eight years ago also. Just like you and your father we were always working on projects together.
Hey Gary. Just want to thank you and Mike again for your help. You have major credit with me my friend. I happy somebody shot a little video of the move. All the best, Tom PS I still have one of your slings in my truck. I will stop by your shop soon and drop it off.
Tom, it was nice to be able to help out a friend. Would’ve been nice to have a little more footage but sometimes when you’re in the middle of moving stuff filming‘s the last thing on someone’s mind. Hope you’re doing well.
The chipping hammer caught my eye,, Still have mine from 1972 and with the old wooden handle. Was the youngest certified welder of local 263 Ft. Worth TX,,,boy where did time go??? Great vid and thx for sharing Gary..and thx again for your sub to us,,,Bear.
I hear you Bear, time doesn’t slow down for no one. I still like the old wood handles, they have worked for many of welders for many year’s. Thanks for stopping by the channel. Gary
So great to see another video from you Gary. Your content is always so interesting to me. Love big lathe work. Even if just facing a flange, you make it interesting. Love your davit crane score. Nice fab job. ---Doozer
Great content and good to catch up on some of the older projects as well as the new stuff, well done to Glenn and thanks to your daughter for assisting in the prize draw
Very impressive work. Nice of you and your friend to go help Tom.👍👍 Nice to have good friends. Good job machining the Turbo adapters. The big engines are impressive. Thanks for sharing. Take care, Ed.
Congratulations on 5000 Subscribers. With the interesting videos you put out it will be no time until you have 10K. Gary, 78-Year-Old Home-Shop- Machinist from the Beautiful Ozark Mountains of North West Arkansas
Weird! I don't do mechanic work but I happen to have a NOS sunnen bore hone, but mine is quite different. It has more of a carjack style mechanism to spread the stones. Most notably, it has a shaft that must be 20 in long, there is a hole in the metal box for it to stick out. I have never used it. Would this be designed for a different application? I always assumed it was for line boring so to speak. I never thought about it until today, but spring pressure is not sufficient to keep round, no?
So these engines that run off of landfill gases, how do you manipulate the gases to be of a chemical composition that is necessarily combustible? I imagine there is tons of different gases produced in a landfill and there would not be much consistency. Is there ways to average this out? Like layering the garbage in particular recipes known to produce more / better gas? How does the system protect against something extra combustible? Like say someone through a way a full can of butane or ether, is this not a potential danger to the engine?
Great little video. Where do you find all this stuff? Years of contacts I recon, can I come?? Did you live out there when they filmed "Howard the Duck "? That little crane for the lathe is a great idea! Maybe a grinding attachment would have cleaned the diffuser face off better, on the next you did,,,,,,,,,,, What is one of those motors worth??
Yes I lived here when they filmed Howard the Duck, Moved here in 1965. I try to avoid grinding on the Lathe when possible. Grinding off the hard scale with the hand grinder I think is the trick. Should machine easy now. If you mean one of the engines you can get a new one for about a million. If you get a reman engine it would set you back almost 3/4 of a million.
@@OldIronMachineWorks I was here in late 80s, remembered when they shut 12 down for it. I agree on the grinding OFF the lathe, just throwing that out. Who rebuilds electric motors around here?
Congratulations on the 5K subs Gary and congratulations to Glen the winner. I saw the photo of the Weaver that you posted on Instagram. Will make for an interesting restoration. Cheers 🍻 Aaron PS: great seeing your daughter on camera. My Emily used to help me, but now she’s a cop she doesn’t want to show her face anymore 😂
Many of the contents seen here would make nice full videos . Blowers and pumps may seem simple to many , but there are subtleties that are easy to over look ? Thanks for another fine video from start to finish .
A nice mix of goodies. And I’m sure Tom is grateful. Thanks, Gary. (I missed the giveaway by one person. I got all excited when Gary said Glenn and ran his finger down the list of names and went one past mine! It’s a really thoughtful gift.)
Gary I am waaaay behind on my video watching. Catching up now. I was glad to see several of yours ready for me to enjoy. I love that truck crane! Anxiously waiting for any updates. Glad to see that you and Mike were able to help out with Tom’s move. Worthy project and person.
Guy, Great to have you stop by the channel. I hear rumors that you have your new shop built. I would love some day to see pictures of it. Hope you’re doing well. Gary
When that fill rite pump quits working it is the cheap toggle switch they put inside them. I get about 3 years out of one in my climate. Last time I changed it to a marine grade toggle switch. Hopefully it lives longer.
I worked in a Foundry for 28 years in Indiana and we made many of those cone parts u machined ,,,I called them ,,, You have a dam good skill id love to have, so congrats in all you do and just hope you make more money on the back side as i did at that dirty place
Some of the projects you work on that might seem mundane to you are very interesting to me. The crane for example, I would have liked to have seen the entire repair and fitting. Also I’m not surprised you are friends with Oxtools, birds of a feather flock together.
Genius at Work on that ticket tumbler, Gary ! I never worked with that P20 mold steel -- I was very surprised at how well it machines . Good to see ya salvaging those old machines, again -- hope to see more of that ! And now we know what's been keeping Tom busy . Take Care, Gary ....... always looking forward to seeing more content from you when you get the time .
Really nice of you to offer prizes to your viewers. Really enjoyed looking at all your treasures and projects. Also enjoyed watching you help a fellow machinist. It has been a long time since I have been in Benicia. My wife and I live there for a couple of years when we were first married some 38 years ago before we moved up to Napa. Loved the area. Thanks very much for sharing all of this Gary.
Gary, enjoyed the update, glad to see the clips of moving Tom’s stuff. I wondered how the transfer actually happened, he has been so busy he understandably has not posted much. I can keep track from a far by watching everyone’s posts. It is nice to see the usual suspects putting a shoulder against the move. Great repair to bring the crane back to life for the truck, such a valuable tool.
Thank you Richard, it was nice to be able to give Tom a hand getting some stuff moved. But there’s still a lot of work for him to get stuff all set up.
Pull the battery leads when you park that truck. Late nineties Ford F250/350 are the most commonly stolen vehicles. We've lost 3 from the parking lot at my work. Making a hidden battery disconnect switch might be a fun fab job.
Gary do you see the same ships passing back and forth under the Old Bridge? Does the ship traffic change a lot? I really want to come see that bridge some day.
Alan, lots of different ships . This morning was one of the biggest I have seen go through but by the time I could get there I could not get video of it going through.
I think if you had the drawing at the end of your videos, particularly the longer ones, this would be a good way to target your more devoted fans. I have seen TH-cam analytics, it is very strange to me how few people watch an entire video. I don't get it, but your content is quite interesting to me. I do the same with some videos when I am looking for educational content, get what I need and split. But I can't imagine many people are using your channel as a DIY resource
I really don’t consider my videos DIY style videos, I’m hoping there videos that somebody can get a little entertainment from and at the same time pick up a couple little tips here and there. Gary
I just wanted to float an idea. I don't really understand doing giveaways to begin with, you are already providing free entertainment. That said, winning something is always fun but I think a cordless drill is within most people's means. Personally and I suspect I'm not alone in this, I love your acquisition videos, weather is the junkyard or a retiring machinist. I have burned with envy for some of the things you have come across. Sometimes you pass on things and I end up screaming at the TV. I'm sure I am not alone in envying your access. Maybe for your next giveaway, you should give away some old iron. Something that your viewers cannot click a few buttons and expect to arrive later in the week. Just my two cents
I'm stupid! I didn't even think about shipping, clearly that would not work out well. I still think there is some validity to my point, any viewer of your channel would likely be interested in old things. Maybe measuring equipment? I don't know. I suspect that most of your viewers appreciate old machinery just like you
Okay I had a better idea. Machine plates. We all love the old logos and particularly appreciate the ornate brass emblems. It's obvious you like this stuff too, much is visible in your blast cabinet. Keyhole escutcheons, warning labels, logos, speeds and feeds charts... These all are affordable to mail and I think your viewers could all appreciate. Again I don't see the need to do giveaways, but I'm guessing most of your viewers already own a cordless driver, though it is extremely generous of you.
Please dont feel like any video you post is dumb or uninteresting, I am trying to get into the trade and ANY thing you can teach IS appreciated. The descriptions to special techniques or tools, repair to mills and lathes, hell I could watch you eat lunch and always take something away from it.
I got one of those pumps it’s just a single blade no motor at an auction the other day for nothing if you know anyone who would want it let me know I’ll shot you an email they give me my money back and ship it they can have it I only got it to save it from the scrap yard
@@OldIronMachineWorks Just a note to let you know I have received the prize and can indeed put them to use. Thanks again, both for the prize and taking the time to create the videos.
