Scrappy Doo deserves better than this. I loved the character tbh, never really got into the hate that "everyone" seemed to have for him and honestly hate how they're dragging him through the mud into this show.
It's honestly a lot thanks to James Gunn. Seriously, most of the Scrappy Hate can be tracked to the first live action Scooby Doo movie. Before that, it was mostly just general ambivalence.
@@Star-Commander-Vong TBH I didn't even know it was a thing till after the internet and heard it about as much as I heard how the "Prequels suck" yet normally I could never get anyone to tell me why they hated him.
Here's the real hypocrite irony of how and why it's so dumb they bring scrappy doo but refuse to bring Scooby Doo. Back in Season 1 disaster, they said it would be kid-like if they brought back the iconic talking dog that is Scooby Doo. Yet for some dumb-arse reason Mindy is perfectly fine with bringing back Scrappy Doo, the nephew to Scooby Doo, a character that is mix-hated by fans, and make him into a blood killing machine that is suppose to be indestructible. It's insane how WB/HBO thought that removing over shows as a means to save money but somehow green lite this "freak" of a show for 2 seasons will somehow net them a profit. And yet, somehow Mindy is allowed to get away with butchering and running off with another paycheck without so much as getting arrested and kick out of all entertainment.
i mean....i thought that was the obvious irony behind the choice, no? it isn't subtle at all, it's so on the nose the you know they are laughing in the distance while you watch it. Regardless of wether it's classy or not haha, or if it enrages fans or not, or "taints" scooby doo or not. It made absolute sense that they chose scrappy haha. not in the "mystery logic" sense, but it fits perfectly with the demeaner/personality of the show. It doesn't matter if behind the scenes they said they wouldn't bring X because Y, it still made the most sense that a show like this would pick scrapy to be the ultimate villain and make it so unvelieably unreal lol. It's provocative, it's stoopid, it doesn't take itself seriously, it breaks the fourth wall (making the most hated adition to the series the ultimate op villain while still teasing scooby's name around lol, it's so clear that i can't get mad). None of this to say that it's good, but that it shouldn't surprise anybody.
WAIT!? WHAT!? WHY!? *Looks at Scrappy Doo as well as Shaggy Scooby doo get a clue* You know.... Perhaps we all owe you an apology..... Maybe we've been too harsh on you guys.
This show is still killing the legacy of Scooby-Doo universe itself by using the names and titles of the characters. This series is not worthy of existing and ruining what the original shows, cartoons and movies were given to people. Definitely not worth watching even for fun.
So Scrappy Doo... is the villain of this season... And he's bitter and crazy now... But he's disguised as another mastermind character for most of it... and ends up becoming a scary monster to get revenge... Did the writers of this show watch the 2002 Scooby Doo movie by any chance?

I’m just gonna say it: SCOOB was not that bad! I saw potential in the movie if it was done well! And I actually think a Hanna Barbera Cinematic Universe is a great idea if done right! And regardless of whether we needed Holiday Haunt before it was a tax write off, that shouldn’t discourage WBA to make a follow up that actually felt like Scooby Doo while making other projects based on the other cartoons that could fit into different genres to make each of these projects stand out! I’ve written in my notes app how I would structure them in all the ways that the MCU does! And James Gunn IS rebuilding a new DC universe and he could probably even help build the Hanna Barbera universe since he’s already written the theatrical live action Scooby movies!
yes scoob was mediocre lol. And people put on their nostalgia gogles and forget what hana barbera was about: cheap episodic shows with the lowest posible budget, basically the ilumination of that era. regardless of how attached some people got to some of their franchises. They just did what they set out to do well: not be great or push an artistic vision or anything, just averegely good shows and pasable stuff to switch on to your kid without bating an eye, and it being watchable in and out in any order so it could be placed in any way at any time in any braket. Honestly what's "great" isn't really the hanna barbera shows, but the devotion people have for some of them.
Velma writers: "We didn't put Scooby in the cartoon because it's not a kid's show with a talking dog." Also the Velma writers: **write Scrappy in as the bad guy** It's not even a new twist, they had to take it from the SD movie. 🙊
The executives axed the Great Dane himself, so even if they wanted to, they couldn't. Although that excuse was always BS. Family Guy has a talking dog; they could have found a place for him.
I find it funny that if this was literally any other show there would be a big spoiler warning. This just shows how much people even care for the show.

Wasn't sophie a waitress in that one place that they kept mentioning in s1? (Spooners I think it was called?) If she saw Velma's mom reading these journals... does that mean that she hid that information away from Velma's dad after Velma's mom disappeared...? And then they married and had a baby together? She never told any of that to Velma who'd risk her life to find her missing mother?? And treated Velma like shit this whole time?? (Desreved but still) Meaning she knew what kind of messed up things Velma's mom read... she knew about the Scoobi project back then... and still said nothing about it in season 1 when all the murders happened??? Wth kind of logic is that???? This is as bad as Not shaggy's (Norvile's) mom knowing all about the Scoobi project WHILE THE MURDERS HAPPENED yet still said nothing about it until way later on AFTER people were murdered... What the ever loving fuc- is this show???!
She knew about the murdering machine that is Scrappy yet warned absuloutely no one about it... Even if Scrappy was unstopable/unkillable killing machine, you can still run away or hide from it or even trap it somewhere it can't escspe... And she is supposed to be a mom???
Surprisingly enough this isn't the first time Scrappy was turned into an experimental nearly invincible government super solder First time was the Scooby apocalypse comics
So my big theory on the second season of Velma getting greenlit is with how episodes are produced. It didnt get greenlit for a new season, but for 20ish episodes based on it being tied to the Scooby-Doo IP so that if batch/season 1 did well then the next episodes were already in pre production so there wouldn't be a 2 year wait for them. Inversely if the show did poorly then WB could chop off 2-5 episodes and slash the budget of the show in order to save money. Basically, season 2 was always coming imo. It just needed season 1 to not absolutely bomb to avoid getting a tv movie aka 4 episodes to wrap things up
Then why couldn't just have waited until all the episodes were produced and released it as a single 20 episode season? Given that this is streaming, it doesn't really matter whether there is one or two seasons since people just binge watch anyway.
And the clincher is that Kaling appears to be convinced that this is who these characters are. Let that sink in. Someone watched the series and got the characters totally wrong. J K Rowling is better at history than Mindy is at understanding what she's seeing.
I’m glad that Velma is not renewed for a season 3. Because it’s that bad. Not only is it a disgrace to the Scooby Doo franchise, but also a far cry from the hundred of Warner Bros. Animated projects. More specifically said far cry from the hundreds of Bugs, Porky and Daffy cartoons.

@@AL-lh2ht Even if it was, I'm pretty sure the people who hate watch these shows don't make it past the first few episodes, let alone a whole season. At best, hate watching will pump the numbers for a few episodes before they fall off a cliff. In fact, I think that happened with the first season.
To make all this worse, this is not even the first time Scrappy was made the villain. They did that years ago in the live-action Scooby-Doo movies and actually did it better than Velma.
I honest to God don’t know why this cartoon exists. At least with adult cartoons, there were reasons as to why it would make for a profit on their résumé. Even something like Adult Party Cartoon. At least that had some potential. Like you can see dollar signs floating around it. This cartoon? It has no reason to exist.
Having Scrappy the killer was dumb and made no sense, just like in the live action Scooby Doo movie. But in a way, him taking out Velma in the end kinda help stop hate he has gotten over the years.
At least this show unified everyone in complete hatred of it when it was around & unified everyone again in celebration when it was confirmed that it got cancelled.
An AMAZING INCREDIBLE MASTERPIECE of a show: TV: nah 1 season Velma (the worst show on planet earth: TV: oooo, let’s give it a second or a third or a millionth season-
This is what happens when money and budgets become more important than actual good writing. I feel for the younger generations. They're being fed so much crap and bullshit in modern media nowadays.
Here's the thing: bad press is still good press for a show despite the quality of it. If you watch it - even just to meme or hate on it, you're still part of a growing viewer count that gives the show a chance to grow. Season 2 would have probably went DOA if season 1 didn't garner a high viewer base.
See what sucks is that people don't understand how streaming services produce shows like this. They already were planning to make a season 2, they just broke season 1 into two parts and decided to now finally release the second part. There are some cases where animators are able to pump out a second season of a show within a year but I highly doubt it would be 10 episodes long that are over 20 minutes in length as well unless if they're really overworked or barely animated. Still the amount of hate watch that this show got really is depressing when other shows deserve the watch time more than this show ever will.
So again, Max cancelled projects such as Coyote vs acme, Batman beyond, holiday Scoob. Canceled shows like close enough and Mao Mao but THIS SHOW still got another season? What are they smoking😂
Rule number 1 since the end of the reluctant werewolf. We don't talk about Scrappy Doo! So you definitely don't use him unless it's a passing joke. She needs a time out from writing. Like she's a bad kid doing stuff just to get away with it and it is starting to get on my nerves.
Remember: if you don't want a season 3, don't even watch season 2. Don't give them the viewership, that's literally the only reason why this survived, and why halo survived even though both were hated.

1:20 don’t think you can get away with the “Listen here. I don’t like you. I am now going to bark at you” ISTG I’VE LISTENED TO THE ORIGINAL AUDIO AND THAT IS WHAT IT SAID
We have anime out here who won’t even get a full season 1 until the first 12 episodes are well received and then there’s production companies like HBO who order 2 WHOLE SEASONS of a show before even considering if it’ll bomb or not.
HOT TAKE! Imma be real, people wanna watch this show no matter how much they claim to hate it. Hate watching is real guys. It may not have given it a season 2 since that was pre planned, but that doesn’t mean it won’t help green lit more. And no matter how awful it is people will keep watching, complain, spreading it on social media, getting other people on it, and act surprised when it gets a season 3,4,5 and even 6. It’s the teen titans go of adult animation
I can tell you I don't wanna watch it. I see a summary of it from two TH-camrs and move on with my life. I see it as a non canon show that is relying on shitting on an old IP to keep itself afloat.

@@Star-Commander-Vongthis
Yay! Another Scrappy fan I'm not alone!
@@Star-Commander-Vong TBH I didn't even know it was a thing till after the internet and heard it about as much as I heard how the "Prequels suck" yet normally I could never get anyone to tell me why they hated him.
@@EvieRawlings Yeah, especially love his stuff in the movies that he was in with Shaggy and Scooby. Especially the Ghoul School one.
I think that Hanna Barbara probably just didn’t want to drag one of their most iconic characters into this mess.
Hanna Barbera flat-out refused to allow Scooby-Doo to appear in this dumpster fire of a show.
*It was already decided* from the getgo there would be 2 seasons.
WAIT!? WHAT!? WHY!?
*Looks at Scrappy Doo as well as Shaggy Scooby doo get a clue* You know.... Perhaps we all owe you an apology..... Maybe we've been too harsh on you guys.
Perhaps we treated you too harshly.

Velma writers: "We didn't put Scooby in the cartoon because it's not a kid's show with a talking dog."
Also the Velma writers: **write Scrappy in as the bad guy**
It's not even a new twist, they had to take it from the SD movie. 🙊
The executives axed the Great Dane himself, so even if they wanted to, they couldn't. Although that excuse was always BS. Family Guy has a talking dog; they could have found a place for him.

You know the show is still bad if people are starting to feel sorry for Scrappy.
We treated Scrappy too harshly. *JUST* like we treated Season 2 of True Detective too harshly. (But people only realized that after latest season)
"How do you do, fellow kids"
To Mindy whats her name: follow your dreams, but don't follow them hard enough to cause this to happen
And YIPPIEE SCRAPPY DOO KILLED VELMA!!
And the clincher is that Kaling appears to be convinced that this is who these characters are. Let that sink in. Someone watched the series and got the characters totally wrong. J K Rowling is better at history than Mindy is at understanding what she's seeing.
Velma herself is such a horrible character I see no value in her getting more seasons...

@@Ammy-q4w Course we are never shown the numbers so it could just be WB bullshiting everyone.
