- Go behind the scenes of the production of FX30: Mastery In the Making. Written and directed by Curt Morgan, and filmed by MacGregor, this film is a short introduction into the look of the FX30, the latest addition to Sony’s Cinema Line and first to include an all new APS-C sensor. The FX30 is a 4K Super 35 cinema camera designed for future filmmakers.

That little camera looks awesome but I have a feeling that with this amount of top tier gear and such a professional crew they could've shot it on Nokia 3210 and it would still look amazing :)
i doubt a phone without ANY camera in it aka Nokia 3210 could film anything
yea you're right. and also, nobody would use an FX30 on a budget like this one. FX30 is not meant for this kind of production. that is just an advert, in the end.
@@Studio23creation I know this is a year old, but considering that the major motion picture The Creator was shot on this camera, this comment didn't age that well.
Correction: The Creator was shot on the FX3, which is not the FX30. My bad.

They just used it like any other “cinema camera.” I see no problems here. That’s kinda the point.
This is what I like to see. If they can do more videos like this for the FX30, FX3, FX6, I will be super happy.
Looks amazing! Crazy how good of a look you can get with such an affordable camera. That being said, I think it would've been more impactful to see how a seasoned filmmaker and director like Curt Morgan would use such an affordable camera with the BUDGET a filmmaker that would buy that camera would look like. Imagine making this film for Sony only using 1k-5k worth of lights and gear. Now that would be super impressive! With this type of a setup and production value that they used, it's hard to make a make something NOT look cinematic.
Exactly what I was thinking. Looks great, but you have an entire team and equipment way above the 2k range.
Yes, "affordable" until you just start counting the many thousands you need on lenses, gimbals, lighting equipment, sound, editing crew and actors.
@@villagranvicent yea there's much much more $$$$$ involved on top of body cost, thankfully we can partially learn many of those skills & try 1man team kind of projects

Before you complain that they used professional gear around the camera, this film is more a showcase of the sensor and what it's capable of. With under $25,000 of lighting, lenses and rigging, I can get very similar results on my FX30 for my production agency. Just use slightly cheaper versions of the equipment they were using and your'e golden.
OMG Sony FX30 looks sooo amazing! Of course the operator is to be glorified!
Whilst the short is amazing and I hope to receive my preoder sometime this lifetime, I do wish more people would see this video to realize that the FX30 is not an Arri you can fit into your pocket. The lights alone used on this set roll the price of the camera 15x over.
Still, very cool, shows any camera when mixed with professional lighting, set design and passion can create amazing art.
We need more reviews like this, too many “filmmakers” just want to turn on the camera and allow it to do all the work. Yes they’re equipment is off the charts but with proper lightly a camera like this can shine. Everyone uses the low light excuse. You must not be planning your shots, how many major films are shot on super 35? Arri Alexa, Red etc

I mean, yeah, with that amount of gear and ligths around, and a complete film crew, even an old Nokia phone would look amazing. I'm sure the camera is fine, but it is misleading to show us this as a proof of that camera being outstanding.
film set requires those things. it's not misleading.
At 1 minute in, master Hollywood blacksmith Tony Swatton turned asian. I had no idea he mastered disguise as well! 🤣

Can someone explain this setup to me. Since the Sony has one Full size HDMI. Is the monitor connected to it, which also has an HDMI out, which allows a Hollyland or similar video transmitter to output to multiple receivers for monitoring and focus pulling?

I'd love to see some details on the rigs they used when running this camera hand held.
I find that most stable cage setup is with two side handles, it extends the distance between hands which helps with stabilization

WTF, the FX30 with the ARRI TRINITY is just nuts, at that point, you could buy more than 20 fx30 for the price of one arri trinity lol, even the lens is cine lens something like dzofilm ot zeiss batis cine lenses which is overkill for this camera. no wonder the trailer is crazy good.
Pues que decir, una cámara de menos de $2,000 USD pero todo lo que está alrededor son equipos de alta gama, de cientos de miles de dólares; me deja que, entonces si compro una cámara de ese precio se supone que no tengo como pagar para hacer un corto de miles y miles de dólares. Y si voy a usar esos lentes, matebox, iluminación etc, etc, mejor lo hago con una Arri o Red. Deberían de poner un ejemplo de lo que en la vida real puede hacer un cineasta de bajo presupuesto. En América Latina se vende mucho Sony y si esta cámara es para alguien cono nosotros los cineastas de poco o casi nulos presupuestos latinoamericanos que no tenemos ni una centésima parte para hacer una producción como la que hicieron para este ejemplo, pues es un poco ilógico el asunto. En cambio, sí tenemos para rentar todo lo que están usando y no la cámara, realmente uno usa Arri o Red.
Mi amigo pero aunque uses una Arri o una RED sino tienes los equipos de alta gama no vas a lograr la calidad que ves en este video, todo tiene un propósito. Por eso ellos están demostrando que con una cámara de menos de $2,000 si se puede hacer cine de calidad sin tener que invertir $87,000 en una Arri o Venice 2. El que quiere hacer cine tiene que invertir en lo mejor que pueda en su negocio. Yo tengo la fx3 pero tengo una gama de prime lenses, más iluminación apurture para poder lograr lo que ando buscando para mis clientes low budgets que exijen por su ignorancia 🤷♂️ , Yo doy fe que la Sony está llevando la filmación a otro nivel sin tener que comprar cámaras de altos precios. Saludos
Entiendo lo que dices y tienes razón también. Sin embargo, si tú no vives en América Latina, no creo que tengas la experiencia de lo difícil que es comprar una cámara o luces, gimbals, monitores, etc etc. El costo de cualquier cámara o equipo de consumo o alta gama, suma un 50% o 70% por impuestos y envíos, etc etc. Y por supuesto ganamos de dinero por nuestros trabajos un 200% o 400% menos que cualquier ciudadano de los Estados Unidos de Norteamérica, entonces la espiral de costos y accesibilidad de los equipos no es igual que los países europeos y USA o Canadá. Cualquier precio para la mayoría de nosotros es alto. No es culpa de Sony por supuesto. Estoy de acuerdo con ParamountVisuals totalmente.
Bueno pues mira mi hermano, si estoy consciente de lo que hablas sobre lo dificil que es adquirir equipos en latinoamerica pero, acá en EU el costo de vida es más alto y hay que tener hasta dos trabajos para poder sobrevivir, en mi caso todo lo que he adquirido a sido a base de préstamos y revendiendo equipos que ya no uso y asi sucesivamente me mantengo en la vida al igual que tú luchando y luchando, no es facil tener los mejores equipos de esta industria sino se tiene a un padrino financiero que nos bautize, tu y yo somos de los que solitos hemos ido avanzando poco a poco, en cambio Hollywood con sus millones puede lograr lo que quiera 🤷♂️, mi consejo para ti es que hagas un préstamo a base de tus ganancias y trates de adquirir una buena cámara con un buen lente al menos 24-70 mm, un par de luces al menos 200w y sácale la inversión todo lo que puedas, asi lo he hecho yo y he visto algunos frutos, el talento y el conocimiento ya lo tiene, poco a poco se puede lograr. @@JG-ki6yv La realidad es que casi cualquier cámara hoy en día te da excelente calidad de imagen, pero a fin de cuentas los 1700 que vale la cámara no son nada cuando sumas lo que valen los lentes, el gimbal y el sonido. Y dejo afuera el equipo de iluminación, el equipo de edición y el personal humano.

Well after putting that much professional gear, crew and time and recording with fx30 doesn't make sense. Most of the fx30 users will have very humble budget, crew and experience. They will have low budget conditions, small budget videography productions or student projects.
Sure it makes sense...the proof is the camera can do it in the hands of someone that knows what they are doing. Arri35 in the hands of someone that doesn't know what they are doing will put out garbage. Get over it, Sony and others are manufacturing better and better cameras and outfitting them with processing software that is rivaling more expensive gear.
