| Japan share their joy after beating Italy for their fifth win at the 2021 VNL.
Japan twice came from a set down to force a tie-break and beat Italy for their fifth win at the 2021 FIVB Men's Volleyball Nations League.
Here's the reaction after the game, from the virtual Mixed Zone:
Mattia Bottolo (Italy): "I think we played a great match - unfortunately we were not able to extend our winning streak and gain the third victory, but we have another match tomorrow. Japan are a strong team. We played two great sets against them. I think that we surprised them in defence and that should be a key for our next matches."
Haku Ri (Japan): "During our meeting we talked that we have to win these three games against Australia, Italy and Argentina. Therefore, I am very satisfied that we managed to win yesterday and today. Even if we were behind, we managed to close this game in our favour. We managed to do it, because we focus on one game at the time, thus everyone sets their mind to win the game and this is the reason why we were successful."

Team Japan's problem is still their middles.. Only Onodera is decent.

@@tesslee2001 Personally I can see from various high points of each matches that Takahashi Ran has immense potential, but the fact is that he is still not consistent with performing at his best. Many out balls in service, spikes are not always as fast as he can hit them, and he gets shut downed by blocks quite often. However, when he does get it going, his services spins really fast and steep, spikes are really quick with good form, and of course his receives are generally great. The problem with him not securing down a permanent spot in the main 6 is his inconsistency, and perhaps lack of power. If he could couple his speed with a bit more power, and perform at his best in more matches, he'll definitely become an even bigger threat to both the opponents and teammates fighting for the same position.
Ran might interest the audience with his good look but he’s also an amazing player. Japan got many lead points from him. 👏👏👏

@@proff-itti6278 I still think Yanagita kid isn't up par to Takahashi. Takahashi surely went all out in his 3rd year high school and was unmatched. Don't get me wrong Yanagita was last year MVP and he is a beast but I still think Takahashi is simply better.

Japans FD improves a lot. Having a good digging and receiving hitter by Ran.. the load of ishikawa receiving was lessen..

2 best scorers from this game was Japan's Ishikawa with 21pts and Ran 19pts, Both Nelli and Recine from Italy came third by scoring 16pts. Eventho Ran needs more stability and experience, his stats were quite amazing for a rookie.

It has been so tough for Team Japan for this year's VNL. I'm proud that they're still learning to improve their connection day by day. Congratulations Japan Team for a job well done, you guys have always been so inspiring. Can't wait to see all of your matches ahead.

I just watched the replay. This is a hood game. I know this is Italy team B but this is also a good exposure to Japan’s other players. Mixing in Ran and Yuki with non starters gave a boost to Team Japan.
We will see Ran Takahashi on Vnl 2022, he will be in the starting line up, thats for sure... how much he gained from the Superlega Italia, at Kioene Padova experience as an import. Im looking forward for this incredible spiker from Japan. Ciao!

Japan was playing bad until the 4th set where they turned the game around.

Great! The national team of the Empire of the Rising Sun has won this match. A good job! But I think that Yuji is sorely missed in the Japanese team. Shimizu-San and Ran Takahashi San did a good job, no questions. But Yuji's powerful left hand attacks and his aces are needed so much for the Dai Nippon Team.

Japan never give up. I watched the whole match thinking that they could lose. Bcz during set 1, they are not very good but they manage close the points gap. The whole team works together. Actually takahashi not played well on 1st set. But he manage to make a comeback and score many points too.
