It’s been great fun watching you folks.. Could you try this with your next blind? (If you haven’t already done so in previous blinds) Try to do your blinds without knowing what brands you’re tasting… Kurt’s blinds would be picked by Trenton and Trenton’s by Kurt.. they don’t even need to be the same bottles.. palates are different anyway and it would be great to know the results of a true blind tasting as you’d have no information about what you’re tasting!! Your expectations are set before you taste otherwise because you know what bottles are on the table
Good blind, but Bowman should probably have been small batch since it's a much closer comparison in proof and price. would also have put the Bardstown origin high rye 96p in instead of the only wheater in the blind.
I have been trying to get a bottle of John Jay Bowman single barrel ever since we were in Virginia Beach but with no luck. As you have stated and I heard the same thing from people at stores in Virginia that it was worth chasing down.
I use BT as a primer bourbon. Just picked up 4 bottles of BT Binny’s store picks this week for $29.99 each. I like the Hard Truth Wheated Bourbon BIB. All the other 3 you were comparing the BT to are $45-$50 each. 🥃
@davevogelsang6791 I live in the city and interested if those BTs are still avail, depends on the exact location. I was out of town and it is Friday night
@@frankarev4920 The Rockford, IL location had some left Thursday, but did not go by there today (Friday). The other locations that I got them at were the Crystal Lake and Algonquin locations on Thursday.

Outstanding as always guys and this was an awesome blind. I can only find 2 of the 4 in my area so I cannot duplicate this blind. Thank you & keep up the great work. And, when is Trenton eating the shoe?
Made a trip down to KY this past weekend and hit the Bardstown area and then over to Buffalo Trace. I was surprised to see they now allow up to 6 bottles per person of Buffalo Trace each day. Not sure when this jumped up from one bottle per day per person but thought that was an interesting development.
I'm at the 3:00 mark. I think Kurt's prediction feels spot on. Gonna be hard for the Hard Truth and Buffalo Trace to make up ground from 10 proof points behind out of the gate.
I lucked into an Isaac Bowman, twice.... Believe it's finished in port barrels.... The Bowman Brothers is pretty good as well. I now added John's S.B. I'm always taking notes during your show, along with M&D and IBN. THANKS FOR THE INFO AND ENTERTAINMENT.... Learning Laughing... Can't beat it!
Does yours have a bitter, almost peppery finish? I feel like I want to get another bottle and see if the batch I have was a fluke. I know Fred minick said he got the same thing, but I haven't seen any reviews mention it.
@@1030Blake I'll have to get another one. The one have is an amazing start, it's tastes like buttered sugar bead which is amazing, but then a pepper finish.
I've done a couple blind taste tests, and it's always amazing at what finishes first and last... and how having a bottle in front of you and knowing what your drinking can influence how you like the bottle.
I was recommended a rebel 100, wheated 100proof. It is good for 20$. A friend recommended it, and now I recommend it. A friend said he drinks it quite a bit. I haven't seen anyone review it in my usual bourbon channels. At the store a patron recommended rittenhouse rye. Got that too. 26$ Mild spice and similar wood profile but not the wheated sweet of the rebel. There are tons of sub 30$ stuff, but lots of not so good. I'm a 101 guy but that rittenhouse spanks 101 rye version for sure. That 101 rye is not good, less age than regular 101.
I just picked up a Buffalo Trace store pick "Sazerac Barrel Select" that is amazing! Very close to the Sazerac Rye, if you had that on the bar right now, you would be blown away!
Great blind! I love both the Bardstown wheated and, for $27 it's hard to beat Buffalo Trace. I hope to find the Hard Truth here in Columbus and I am visiting Virginia this summer so maybe I will stumble across the John J. Bowman....and how about Kurt emerging as the new prognosticator in picking which is which? Way to go Kurt!!!
These videos are great. Kurt says something like this, " smells like caramel with a hint of maple". Trenton say, " smells like a Snickers bar, drizzled with mint, in a hedgehog's litter box". Both drinking the same blinds.. hahaha. Like watching the Academy Awards. Keep it up gents.
The thing about blinds is that other bourbons can influence flavors for better or worse other bourbons. Because when I used to start off 1st with four roses barrel strength I wouldn’t enjoy it; however if I dranked a bourbon before the four roses barrel strength I would enjoy it more.
I like the pre-ranking and then the final format you guys used this time! More plz! Also, looking forward to Trenton’s FRIED SHOE all you can eat video!!!
Thanks for the video gentleman, you both always make me laugh. Trenton, I would like to suggest putting the names of the products that your blind tasting. Would be helpful when coming back to get them before heading of to the local stores. Smiles....
Was actually at Hard Truth today to have lunch with my wife to celebrate our Valentines. My present was going to be a bottle of the 4 grain based on your first video about it. But I don't know if you were aware, their three new bourbons were not supposed to be released until tomorrow, Saturday the 17th. And in fact their official release at the distillery is tomorrow. There was a mix up with their distributors so some put it on the shelf early.
I literally just did a blind 4 tasting. Came back an hour later did the same bottles again after eating and taking a shower... and all picks changed. Crazy how your taste can change even hour by hour.
I can’t find nor ever had the Hard Truth and I’ve only had Jon J Bowman small batch. The other two I’ve had and I’m really beginning to dig the Bardstown - fantastic finish, fist sip is a little funky but once you get past that it’s incredible to me. BT is tasty but simple; it doesn’t have a lot of depth. Bowman small batch seems like comparing something quite different.
I agree Buffalo Trace smells far better than it tastes. I still think it is one of the best for the price but it is so hard to find here in Pennsylvania.
I don't see any Hard Truth products in my area and Buffalo Trace products are very scarce. I regularly see Bowman Brothers small batch and cask finished and agree with another viewer's assessment that Bowman's small batch would have been a better comparison to Buffalo Trace. I recently acquired a John J Bowman single barrel and thought it was great, especially at the price point.
It would be awesome if we could get the same bottles as you guy's for just the currency difference between Australia and America! The Bowman in Australia starts around $180, I got Buffalo Trace a couple of weeks ago for $62, normal Jack daniels and Jim Beam is around $55, I've been saving for Michters, it starts around $120 here, Wild Turkey Rare Breed cost me $115 and Elijah Craig small batch was $96! Our taxes in Australia for alcohol is crazy, even our local Whiskeys are around $70+
I just can't buy into a "blind" taste test when you KNOW every contestant. Have someone else lay out an array of bourbons where you don't have a clue what bottles are included. That's a blind taste test. If you've been around bourbons enough, this is like lining up Coke, Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew and Ginger Ale and calling it "blind". You already have a pretty good grasp on the smells, colors and flavor profile so there's nothing really "blind" about it. Just my 2 cents. I would just like more "truly blind" tests that I think would more accurately indicate which tasted better because EVERY preconception would be removed from the equation. That is not what is happening here. If I blindfolded you after showing you a Rottweiler, poodle, chihuahua and a beagle and asked you to guess which was which, simply by petting them, you would guess them all correctly. But if I blindfolded you prior to you knowing anything about the dogs, and just told you to guess which breed each dog was and I threw a cat and a goat in the mix just to confuse you, your guesses might be off, but they would be honest guesses based on what you experienced when you pet them. That's a blind test. Cheers!
BT is not exactly prevalent around here (KC). I happened to find a bottle the other day. Had to spend $25 on other products to get it 🙄. But I did it anyway. Hadn’t had it for a while. When I took a taste…was like “ok, not bad”. Worth all the hype and hoops and ladders? Nope.
Is everything from BT Distillery allocated because they're all insanely popular, or is everything from BT Distillery insanely popular because it's all allocated? I firmly believe the latter is true. Good whiskey? Of course. But worth all the time, effort, money and grief? For me, absolutely not. The whiskey world is large and the hype is strong with Buffalo Trace.
Trenton is gonna eat a shoe!!!! Wondering how close Hard Truth distributes to PA... I need to plan a trip to VA as well to get JJ Bowman SB, I can get the Bowman Bros small batch here in PA, but I don't think it's the same.
If you live in or are visiting the Washington DC area, you can visit the A. Smith Bowman Distillery. It's in Fredericksburg VA, and John J. Bowman Single Barrel (and everything else they make) should be in stock on site.
Personal the normal buffalo trace is just fine to me for $25 but the 3 buffalo trace single barrels ive had have all beaten both the blantons ive had. I stock up on $30 BT store pick every chance i get, all the sweet BT goodness with none of the slight harsh finish of the regular. And honestly ive had a harder time finding Bowman SiB than I do BT SiB.
As far as the Bowman Single Barrel goes, even at the distillery you are only allowed to purchase one bottle, if it’s available, but if you go to the local ABC liquor store In Virginia, there is no limit! Cheers!🥃
I'm a big Bardstown fan I like the whole origins series the rye is a great pour. Saw a video that Fred Minick wasn't a fan of the Hard truth BIB. So some of their juice isn't so great. He does like their rye’s though.
At the right price, i don't think does it for me. I'm a newb, in my early days just a few years ago. I've had BT regular, OF orange and EW white and didn't like any of them. When would you go back a try them again. 5 years later? or never., You tell me. 101 is my every day all day.
I like BT just fine, but predicting Bardstown BiB to come in last? 😮 I haven’t had the John J Bowman, but Bowman Brothers small batch is virtually BT so I would have included it instead. Hard Truth isn’t available here, I think.
I’m surprised that you put Bardstown Bottled in Bond in the lineup. The 96 proof white label origin series is definitely BT-esque. The BiB had its own thing going on and not really comparable.
Great video, but not fair through. John J is a 100 proof single barrel juice. It would have been better comparison with Bowman Brother Small Batch which is 90 proof and similar to the lineup on the bar top. Regardless, great content 👍🏼
Sooo... $23? Buffalo Trace vs $45 bottle (ok fine) vs John Single Barrel (which is supposed to be essentially the same as Blantons @ 100proof)... and a 100 proof $50 Bardstown? Kinda stacked against BT... and I say that as a guy who doesn't love BT. When I've blinded it; I find it's a top tier $25 whiskey... but $40-50 bottles easily beat it... and that's kind of what you proved here.
This really isn’t a “blind” tasting when you already know the bottles going in. Process of elimination can be used to sway your selections. It should truly be blind and no, you shouldn’t be trying to guess what it is during the tasting. That goes away with a true blind too.
Bowman brothers small batch would have been a more comparable choice over the single barrel.
This is what I was wanting to comment as well. Proof point, price, and availability. The single barrel is way harder to find.
This.
I love it. And yes it’s shelf stable here.
The single barrel used to be super easy to find, idk what happened.
@@treytison1444 people wised up to what is actually in the bottle😊

BT store picks are one of the best values in bourbon. Regular shelf BT is a bit boring but still better than Eagle Rare and Blantons, IMO

So, Buffalo Trace is the only one in this lineup that is available on the shelf. Would be nice if the comparison was with things easy to get.
Would love to see a DOUBLE OAKED blind with Woodford reserve and 1910😎!!!
Try EH Taylor Single Barrel vs this group....
Haven't seen the results but I expect Bardstown to do VERY well in this blind.
At the right price, i don't think does it for me. I'm a newb, in my early days just a few years ago. I've had BT regular, OF orange and EW white and didn't like any of them. When would you go back a try them again. 5 years later? or never., You tell me. 101 is my every day all day.
Why was John J used and not Bowman Brothers? Brothers is a batched product like all the others
I also feel like it should have been the Bardstown white label, as its closer in proof to Brothers and the rest of the
Pausing. I think Kurt's order is on point.
And Trent needs some sleep to counter his synesthesia.
I like BT just fine, but predicting Bardstown BiB to come in last? 😮
I haven’t had the John J Bowman, but Bowman Brothers small batch is virtually BT so I would have included it instead. Hard Truth isn’t available here, I think.
I Like to guess bottles in blinds. I don’t mind if you do too.
I’m surprised that you put Bardstown Bottled in Bond in the lineup. The 96 proof white label origin series is definitely BT-esque. The BiB had its own thing going on and not really comparable.
Bowman’s BP is my daily pour
Geez Trenton, the 10 chicken breast risk could go horribly wrong
I like them all. They're just different from one another - to me, there's no "best" in this lineup.
Trenton guessed that BT was better than John J Bowman? Buddy... what are you smoking?😂 It's E H Taylor juice!
Grabbed a BuffT for $25 in Houston yesterday
