Considering the number of mechanics present in this fight, plus the fact that Scarmiglione casts a screen-filling ultimate, this boss fight feels more like a trial in it's own right compared to any other dungeon bosses. Very fitting for one of the archfiends! Plus, this remix is an absolute BANGER! FFIV was one of the first FF games I ever played and I almost tear up from the nostalgia of listening to this song.
I mean, in FFIV all the archfiends were dungeon bosses - Scarmiglione for Mt. Ordeals, Barbariccia for the Tower of Zot, Cagnazzo in Baron Castle, and Rubicante in the Tower of Babil. Barbie and Rubi got promotions if anything.
Mine might be the unpopular comment here... but my first brushes with FF (and this song) were Culex from Super Mario RPG. And it did me great joy to hear this song again in such glory.
FFIV was my first FF, but I loved SMRPG to death as well. You are not alone in wanting to see Culex. Interestingly enough, Culex is derived from the Latin word for Mosquito, much like Golbez is derived from the Goulbeser (sp) fly from Turkey.

Scarmiglione is such a gigachad he will be forever remembered for being such a cool surprise dungeon boss. I still hope we get a trial with him, but damn that was a neat surprise.
Patch content trials are always done as groups of 3, so just like Anima what they decided to do was give him a pseudo trial as the final boss of a relevant dungeon. They also gave us a duty fight with him to function like in FF4 where he comes back and ambushes the party from behind. He always was the weakest of the 4 so he was the one that was the best choice for the demotion to pseudo trial.
Scarmiglione: I give you the taste of TRUE despair! Meteion/Endsinger: A taste? Then follow us down to deepest depths of despair... Scarmiglione: H-Huh!!?

@@smward87 If that where true, then we'd likely have more Geno cameos/appearances thanks to fan demand. We don't, since Geno is owned by Square-Enix. Why wouldn't Culex also be owned by them then? This isn't as simple as "it's owned by the publisher, end of story".
I screamed when I heard this in the trailer, but now that I listened to it in game I screamed louder lol it’s one of my favorite boss themes ever and listening to this rendition was such an awesome experience 🤩🤩🤩
I guess Anima, Ala Mhigo Zenos and the Vanaspati boss were similar in that regard, but I have to agree that I liked it
I'm kinda sad that two of the fiends were demoted to dungeon boss but I can see why they did it.
Same bro
Loooooved Culex. FFIV was my first FF as a kid. And Super Mario RPG was a game I played right after beating IV, god I love this theme so much.
My family and I are still holding out hope that 14 will have us fight Culex somewhere.
Same.
FFIV was my first FF, but I loved SMRPG to death as well. You are not alone in wanting to see Culex.
Interestingly enough, Culex is derived from the Latin word for Mosquito, much like Golbez is derived from the Goulbeser (sp) fly from Turkey.
I highly doubt it, but they should put Culex as a FFXIV raid boss.
Yes please I want him as a story boss for dissdia final Fantasy Opera omnia they havent reached. A certin area yet in no where the castle cornelia is still covered in a dark aura hope they give it to us as a suprise or yet give culex as an raid boss for this upcomings year annivesary
Would be something for a Manderville quest me thinks
Scarmiglione is such a gigachad he will be forever remembered for being such a cool surprise dungeon boss. I still hope we get a trial with him, but damn that was a neat surprise.
Patch content trials are always done as groups of 3, so just like Anima what they decided to do was give him a pseudo trial as the final boss of a relevant dungeon. They also gave us a duty fight with him to function like in FF4 where he comes back and ambushes the party from behind. He always was the weakest of the 4 so he was the one that was the best choice for the demotion to pseudo trial.
U r a saint for posting these so soon
Awesome remix of the Super Mario RPG Culex theme.
Scarmiglione: I give you the taste of TRUE despair!
Meteion/Endsinger: A taste? Then follow us down to deepest depths of despair...
Scarmiglione: H-Huh!!?
Love this piece, thanks a lot!
Perfect sync between the music and the video at the start, I have to say. Poor Beatrix never saw it coming!
Trumpet, smooth as butter.
The. Best. Battle. Music. Ever.
1:05 goes crazy hard
I'm one of the few players old enough to remember this theme straight from the SNES - my very first ever Final Fantasy, in fact. Punches me right in the nostalgia button.
Bless you for Uploading Uvi, great theme.
This new form is worthy of your three dimensional world. I return to this world remade. I am matter and antimatter. I am past, present, and future. I will consume all time and space! My evil power is in harmony with this three dimensional world. And now, it will crush you!
I was so like happy about this XD FFIV being my favourite of the Final Fantasy games, I love everything about it, just seeing Scarmiglione and hearing this theme play! Was epic.
This theme makes me glad I main bard for DPS. All ye spoony bards out there, stand up and make your voices heard!
So nostalgic, I remember fighting all of the 4 fiends, and I wonder how they're gonna do rubricant's robe mechanic.
I really want Rubicante to do an absurd attack to reduce you all to 1 HP, then full heal the party to make it a fair fight again, because you're actually giving him some fun for the first time in ages.
@@jimi_jams oh yes that would be great.
@@jimi_jams
That would be amazing. I really do hope they work his heal-before-you-fight chivalry into it somehow.
Well they didn't do the main crazy mechanic of thr present archfiend where only a dragoon could hit them.... but we will see.
@@chrisaich95 They DID, however, do the part of that mechanic where she would slow you down with her hair--rather than slow petrification it was hair tethering to a spot.
Every time I do this dungeon, I type "Hey, it's Culex's battle theme from SMRPG!" in the chat to guage reaction.
As a ff IV fan, I cried.
Your Aether.... is MINE!!!
The kick drum at the start is insane
A backing beat and a sexy sax make any classic into a banger.
I love how Scarmiglione enters the battle by ambushing Beatrix from behind, that had to be intentional
If I ever become a supervillain, I hope somebody plays this as I nefariously monologue my plans at the hero.
I love the idea FFXIV lets classic FF games living in our hearts alive and well.
This song is just absolutely peak Final Fantasy.
Culex: soy materia, antimateria, puedo ver el pasado, puedo ver el futuro, consumo el tiempo y los consumiré a ustedes.
You can get this roll from the dungeon!
Thanks for the upload 📹
This goes far harder then it has any right to go honestly. This made me go mental when I heard it.
That part at 1:40 😍
"*Hiss* Your Aether issss mine!"
Finally, a Super Mario RPG arrangement(Even if it’s not necessarily meant to be one)!
“I am matter, I am antimatter. I can see your past, I can see your future. I consume time…And I shall consume YOU!”
“I am matter... I am antimatter... I can see your past... I can see your future... I consume time... And I will consume you!” - Culex
This what immediately came to my head hearing this haha.
I just noticed the cymbal gets hit in sync with the previous boss getting ran through, dam!
I edited the video to be that way. Doesn't happen that way normally in the cutscene
The best FF boss battle theme graces us.
I am matter... I am antimatter. I can see your past... I can see your future. I consume time... *and I will consume you!*
Oh, wait. Wrong boss.
Wait!! What's a Mario RPG song doing in this game?!
lol nice try
Hey...do you know if Metroid's gun is attached to his arm or to his suit?
Excellent remix, love it.
Such Savagery Ill Suits You
I need power! Light or dark, it matters not!!
Good thing I equipped my Lazy Shell. :)
When this kicked in I was transported back in front of my SNES and I was a kid again. I lost the ever living crap out of my mind.
FFXIV: buy it for the gameplay pay the sub for the amazing OST and content.
And super mario rpg culex fight theme also
I was bursting with dopamin when this first kicked in, but at the same time I felt like crying of nostalgia and seeing my childhood RPG taking a reimagined form
I gotta say it... there ain’t no way!! XD
"I am matter... I am antimatter... I can see your past... I can see your future... I consume time... And I will consume you!"
I got stuck soloing the latter half of this boss after both DPS and the Healer died. I did it, because Warriors are fucking INDESTRUCTIBLE.
I give you a taste of true desssspair!!
Dude we already killed that. Got anything else?
