you do use ballistic heat +1 cause light ac5 do have a limit of 5, so with 6 you would have had ghost heat :P
that ghost heat is not much so its not that bad but still.

I've had decent matches with LAC-5s in my centurion. 3x LAC-5 + SRM-4s
The proto 8 I am actually enjoying. A pair of them makes a lighter, faster, almost ac20.
Normally, they share the same cool down as a SRM4. So a couple proto 8s and a few srm4s makes a real nice faster firing lbx20. However there's a couple mechs (like this months free mech) where they have enough missile cooldown to mate them up with a single artemis srm6. So on my new set of 8 hellbringer, it's like I have an lbx28 on a 2 and a half second cooldown. Same range, same cooldown, and at close range, the velocity doesnt matter as much. Good for splat.
I took the Hero warhawk last month, did the same thing. Both mechs are doing good.
The real beast is a Stone Rhino I picked up. 6 balistic, 4 missile, 4 energy. So on trigger one, 2 large pulse and 2 er meds. trigger 2, 2 proto 8, 4 srm4, 4 ap gauss. Something like 95 total alpha, and the second trigger is fast firing. Nothing survives that... even me, cuz boy does it heat up fast. (originally had 4 srm6 for maximum alpha which was around 125 or so, but the difference in cooldowns between the 3 weapons meant I had to stare and hold the trigger in a brawl. Feels better matching the srm/proto cooldowns.)
Proto 4/Lac 5... yeh I dont see a use for them atm tho unless u just wanna squeeze a gun on a small mech. Proto 2/Lac 2... just junk compared to normal ac2s, magshots or MGs.
ive been running my catapult k2 with 2 light ac5 and 3 ppcs. its a good time!

I tried it with 6 light ac2s and lpl. Works but as you said its almost better with my light mg gun build as the dps is more than made up for by the other weapons you can carry
Don't usually like calling hax, but the enemy seemed to have remarkable knowlege of where TTB was at every turn in that last match, especially at the start.
There was a mech on the wall in D3/E3 area that had shot at TTB and damaged the right torso. Target lock provided for the lrms and laser shots from the other direction.
As a casual player myself, how are you able to cycle through so many mechs/builds. Is it possable to do with a free account.

yes, you get 4 mech bays with a free account, you will need to earn c-bills from matches to purchase mech's to fill the mech bays, once you own the mech you can vary the builds
All accounts are free. Some of them mechs need to be bought if you want to use them when they come out. All you need are the mechs and the mech bays to put them in. Most of TTBs videos are mechs you can get with c-bills or can be put onto those chassis but without the special tweaks.
Time. The more you play, the more you earn.
There is an event every month. Rewards from events generally include free premium time, c-bills, MC and free mechs. Use the c-bills wisely, as in only buy mechs during a sale. Use the MC to get mech bays. Play in bursts, during the events, so you get all the rewards, while you are enjoying the free premium time.
Do all these things and in a year or so, you can build up a nice collection of mechs, and maybe, possibly, even become good at the game.
Or you can do what TTB did, and no-life it as an actual career path for the decade the game has been out. Probably a bit late for that.
I am nt convinced that 6 LAC5s are as good as 4 UAC5s (if you can equip them). I ran a 4 LAC5 jaegermech versus a 2 UAC5 jaeger (with magshots) and put out more damage with the 2xUAC, in general.
If you cannot fit anything but LACs, its an option.
Personally I prefer 4xLAC5 + 2xLB10 + 2xLPPC
