I wish I could say it gets easier but every move I've done here has been nothing but stress and tons of unforeseen issues. It takes some brass balls and determination. I learned to embrace the chaos as an adventure when I lived in NYC…Things rarely went to plan, but it was always interesting. I wouldn’t deal with the dirt, mold and damage either though- gross!

That said the one thing to remember when people talk about how much they pay for rent in NYC is less about quality and more about location. There’s quality here too. But add that to the location and now you’re paying laughable amounts. Only way to get quality for less is to live in the boroughs.

Dude, had the same thing a few months ago when I moved into my ridiculously overpriced (for Charlotte) apartment. Paint splatter all over the floor, dirty floors, bathroom cabinet with a hinge not attached, a screw pushed through the front of my oven handle… Came home the other day to water pouring from the ceiling. I could go on. It was pages of stuff. Im still dealing with the things wrong here. I’ve been away from home a lot but I’ve put in the work order for my bathroom cabinet literally 4 times, each time it’s marked as fixed when I’m gone on a trip. I come back, and it’s still on one hinge. I’ve decided I’m contacting someone to deal with this legally. At least they addressed your concerns but no, it’s not acceptable. You have every right to be unhappy with it.
Still catching up from my travels! Anyhows, sounds like a normal NYC move to me! Ok, the fire was like the cherry on top; its just not something you see regularly! But in the end it does come together, doesn't it. Bummer on whoever did the five finger discount, you just never know who is coming and going (and would think its not a neighbor) but Amazon is amazing with that stuff. I've only lived in NYC apartments with a full door/apartment staff- yes, you pay more but it makes NYC living way more easier!

I feel that in NYC everything is unnecessary stress; lived there for 1 year and couldn‘t deal. Now living in Switzerland which is just more my thing and everything works, no crime etc. That said; NYC super exciting but just not for me.

I think as NY continues to attract transplants that move here with what’s otherwise reasonable expectations, the service industry (basically every service) hasn’t quite kept up. What you would call unacceptable is relative. That said, if you’re paying for something nice, it should be nice. Not overreacting in my opinion. But manage your expectations as NY for natives is a very different place as it’ll be for you. I myself moved here from Miami and had to learn quickly to adjust what I expected. But that was 25 years ago and things have changed A LOT.

My advice!!!!! Find an other apartment my friend. You will be continued having problems in your apartment and stealing your packages. I know the truth hurts! I went through the same shit too.
Yes this was bit of an overreaction. Normal moving stuff ( having moved more time by this point that I can count). They got the issues resolved and it was a quick turn on the until so wouldn't have been surprised with the issues. Seems a major anxiety issue going here.
