Hey guys, hope this helps! This week I'll upload two more videos similar to this that talk about how to unlock all the levels, and how to maximize your coin score. Subscribe so you don't miss them!
I think they will, I have a feeling this is a testing field, it might comeback with some tweaked variables for balancing reasons. this game is going to be way too successful for them to want to ignore it. Or maybe they might think the MP will take away from the co op experience. I can imagine that would be a deterrent.
FX unfortunately, on the legal side of things, Nintendo is literally not able to take back the limited availability without a lawsuit. If they removed the limited availability, people would sue and say they only bought Nintendo switch online/mario 3D all stars because it was limited. (same story for both mario 35 and 3D all stars)
Only other advice I have is that later in the game in like the top 5, use the manual selector to send enemies to people in athletic or castle stages, as there’s a great chance the enemies will cause them to fall into lava or a pit.
Things not mentioned in the video: - Time pauses briefly when going through pipes and entering new levels. - If you're already super mario, a mushroom will instead give 10 seconds. Fire flowers are worth 15 seconds when picking up as fire mario. - If it's a really tight match, you can spam roulette even while powered up, and the mushrooms and flowers will instead just add to your time. - Kosmic said he wasn't really sure if stomping enemies was worth it much; I have found a lot of value in stomping enemies, with the more consecutive jumps the better, obviously. You can stomp multiple enemies at a time and receive the combo for them. - It might seem like a speedrun, but you should only go as fast as you can safely go. If you are dying a lot before the timer runs out, you may be playing aggressively and may rank better by going slower. - I suppose it's worth mentioning that you can high jump off of enemies like in other Mario games by holding the jump button as you descend onto the enemy. I didn't know this for quite a few matches :X Theorycrafting: - Would it be better to avoid the "good" levels so they remain in your shuffle until you need them the most? I'm not sure how the game decides which level you get next, and maybe there are just far too many players for this to even matter. I think my most cleared is at 14, but I imagine people like Kosmic have done much higher than this. My personal weak point is power-up placement. I still don't know where all the secrets are, so this video revealed a lot of new info for me. Thanks Kosmic :)
Another advice is that the opponents big coins represent 20 coins, which means for every big coin they have, they can use 1 roulette. 5 big coins means, the opponent has at least 100 coins. And another advice I just noticed: You can walk over 1-block gaps! This helps a lot in 8-1, because unexperienced players can walk and shoot fireballs or with other words, you cannot fall in 1-gap pits while moving and don't have to worry about shooting fireballs.
About not playing so aggressively: I started off just bulling through the levels like I would playing by myself but I finally learned what you said and I've gotten to where I can land top 5 at least pretty much every time unless I make a bonehead move.
Kosmic, hitting X directly after starting the roulette will give you the powerups faster. You can basically get powered up a half second after you start the roulette.
At least I killed Barb today, I needed to beat 8-2 and selected this course and he was not prepared for this jump in difficulty. Was pretty funny to see.
While that would be a good skill-set to have, the game is always changing up the enemies and gives them random spawn points to prevent speedrunners from dominating at this game.
Nintendo needs to reconsider keeping this game up like Tetris 99 after March... New strategies would be popping up for years also they really need to add a lost levels mode for the pros
I've had a start on 1-2, but that only happened once and the super rare starting stages that happen may just be basic levels, and 1-2 is actually a great starting map
4:19-4:28 I had a match earlier today that started in 1-2. Every other match after that started in 1-1. So yes, matches do sometimes start in other levels but it's very rare.
Fireball kills is actually the least optimal for gaining time. Most of the time it gives only +1 for each enemy while stomping gives at least 2 even from a goomba. Even the axe kills bowser with +10 while fireballs only give +5. Also remember that holding the jump button after jumping allows much more air time than the original game. It really helps when you're on a jumping streak which in itself gives tons of time (+9 on the 6th stomp and +10 on the 7th etc.)
Sometimes you can't really afford to stomp enemies, such as when there's Spiny / Piranha Plant on your way. Remember that losing Firepower means you have to spend 20 coins to hopefully get it back or stopping on your way to collecting one, whereas keeping Firepower allows you to gain 10s if you pick them up from the Item Box or on the way.
Regarding the selector where to send enemies to, my strategy is when I know there are plenty of easy enemies coming up like Goombas or Koopas, I use Attackers. Then we have a steady loop where we just send easy enemies back and forth to accumulate a lot of time. If I encounter something annoying like Bowser or the hammer bros I use random because I don't want to get them back as soon they kill them. If I got max time I also use random because I don't want to help my opponents to gain more time.
If I get a star and nobody is attacking, I like to switch to random for a while and when switching back to attackers, usually more people are attacking. Not sure but I think the opponents using attackers while having noone else attacking them are the ones that keep attacking you even after you target someone else / switch strategy.
Something I noticed when playing and watching others play, is that we're spending more time not grabbing coins than grabbing them. in the absence of low time, danger, and more optimal routes (as opposed to going back to get a missed coin, or choosing coins over 1-up), it's always worth it to get every coin you know about
Being a former speed runner myself, (not a popular one tho lol) I know where the hidden blocks and power ups are and know how to move around maps. I find this very helpful to people who don’t know these tips
4:36 a strategy i use is to hit the star and let it bounce until you collect the fire flower, it will hit something off screen and come back, therefore saving star power time.
I know from Tetris 99 some stratevy. You should be actively switching your attack method to attackers when you have more than one. If someone is not sending you enemies, you couod manually switch over and switch back, but targeting least time does that job fine.I In Tetris 99the top attack option is best in regular cases, but in Mario I like the right hand option, as people will die pretty easily regardless of time, especially early on.
Great video. Great info. If you guys want to know where all the power ups and coin blocks are, I watched 2 TAS videos, one that show all items and one that is max coin collection. They are around 20 minutes each, but it will help you guys quickly learn all the optimal locations. I dont want to link them because I don't want to promote another channel on your TH-cam.
I've seen other people recommend literally just spamming the roulette at 5x or 10x timer and hoping you get powerups (+15 if you already have it, like at 14:15) or POWs/stars. What do you say about this?
Most of the info i got from your few earlier runs, nice to know some details! I don't have the game, and due to brain damage i cannot react fast enough to keep this up, but i LOVE to see others play it :)
What I love is how, despite him being arguably the best SMB player, Kosmic teaches us noobs tips and tricks and does not keep all the secrets to himself. He is such a humble guy and great to listen to as well.
Two pieces of advice I don't see newbies taking: 1. Chain-stomping and shell-kicking are _crucial_ in the early game to build up your time reserves. In this stage of the game, you should be fireballing enemies only in tight corridors where jumping is too dangerous. Once your timer is near the maximum, then you can start being a little more liberal with the fire flower since you won't need to build up quite as much time anymore. 2. Once you've built up your time and coins, start prioritizing levels with tougher enemies if/when you get to the Warp Zone. if you keep looping back to 1-1 and 1-2, the only enemies you'll be sending over are Goombas and green Koopa Troopas, the two easiest enemies in the game. 4-1 and 6-2 in particular are your best friends since Lakitus are by far the toughest enemies to deal with, especially when they start attacking in groups. Just make sure that whomever you send them to isn't targeting you back, since there's a high probability those Lakitus will be coming right back your way if they are.
My strat is to grab many coins as you can in the early stages of the game because its extremely crucial for the later part of the game. When there are 5 players left aka when the music starts going faster just mix strats, meaning start killing more enemies and grab coins if they can easily be reached. When its 1v1. kill as many enemies as you can and start ignoring the coins that take forever to get, like secret rooms or the box that give you many coins.
@@stormbreak7003 I just do the nifty 1-2 loop, where I take the warp pipe back to it as many times as possible while grabbing all coin blocks/1up/and piping.
When I know that I'm about to send a massive wave of enemies, I always target most coins. My theory is that I can hopefully get them to spend money on the roulette earlier in the game, while also sending me enemies to build up time in a controlled environment assuming that they are targeting attackers.
Multi jumps are a very easy way to get up to max time. In the beginning you can set your wheel to attacker and progress through 1-1 slower than the rest. You'll get dozens of goombas to multi jump on and finish the first level with 150+ seconds. 1-2 isn't much harder to this on. Consider that you get 8 seconds at some point for a single enemy. Even if you perform max height jumps, it's more time than you spend. But it's slow progress and thus not flashy :p
There's some value in learning when you can just run and jump. Like in 1-3, at the 1st move platform when you run and jump you always land on it and with the 2 moving left and right you can pretty much yolo it. Works for me everytime. Not like when I wait, that's when it goes wrong. And in the castles (at least the early ones) you can pretty much just run and go without getting hit by the firebars (unless there's more enemies than the fireflower can take).
This is true for MOST platforming games, like Mario, Donkey Kong Country. The games are usually set up where if you just go full speed and make those leaps of faith, the enemies won't get you. It's only when you hesitate that you lose momentum and have to worry about timing the jumps better. Like in 1-4 castle, you can just run full speed under the fire beams and they only hit you if you slow down. Mario Bros 3 teaches you this when the Thwomp corridors show up, just run full speed and trust the level designers have your back.
I’m not sure if you have the qualifications to make this guide Kosmic. Are you like a world record holder for classic SMB games or something? Jokes aside, great vid :3
I don't speed run games but I've been a big fan of speedrunning for the past 4 years. I get a lot of free time at work some days, so I've watched a lot lol... Kosmic definitely one of the greatest I've ever seen. Not only with technical mastery but as a communicator and entertainer, which goes a long way for casuals like me lol. I watched his SMB in under 5 minutes tutorial recently and first time i've considered taking up speedrunning myself. These SM35 videos have been super entertaining so far as well. Rock on!
hey kosmic! thanks for the tutorial. ive actually learned lots from watching you just play normally, but this helped a lot too. I started trying to get more coins and stars and ive been winning a lot more. thanks!
Thought I'd take the time to add a few tricks I've developed that have yielded massive success for me personally. Listen to Kosmic's advice to improve, but if you are itching for a first place finish, there are a few "cheese" tactics to keep in mind to greatly increase your chance at first. I have around a 55% win rate and I'm not very good at the game - the trick is all in strategy. Learn the levels and practice your fundamentals like Kosmic said, but the trick is to play really, really methodical. Maximize every kill in the game to a reasonable level - go for jump combos, shell kicks and don't be afraid to farm coins from the very start. The idea is to play slow, really really slow - but efficient. Once you manage to hit 400 seconds, the key is to slow to a crawl. Take your time. Look at groups, predict how much time you will get (you will become good at it after 10-20 games) and camp out as long as you can to maximize your time as long as possible in each level while still staying around 400 seconds. Some levels don't facilitate this type of play - typically bowser castles, underwater levels (though don't forget shell kicks) and some other jumpers like 1-3. For these you want to learn how to get out of them quickly without bleeding much time. A hidden benefit to this style of play is in coin preservation - as you are playing carefully, you won't get hit as often. Even though yes you are collecting coins more slowly than a speedy player, you bleed less so it largely levels out. The advantage you have built toward starts to pay off come endgame. Never use warp zones. The key to this is simple - easier levels are prioritized early on by the level selector, so the further back you are, the easier the levels you will have when the red timer starts. Once the red timer starts, you will obviously have to pick up your pace, but still don't panic as in stage 1 you will still find windows where you can camp out. Play it patient, and once you start falling back in time or stage 2 begins, you should finally start unloading your coins. The strategy here changes a little, as stopping time becomes an important tactical consideration. Whenever you make any screen transition or get hit/power up, time stops. You want to utilize this when it makes sense. Don't fret about getting hit by a trickier obstacle, instead of waiting - it's often much better to jump into the target to freeze the timer at least once, if not two or three times depending on the situation. I have beaten some outstanding players that I have no business competing with - trust me, it's dirty but it works. You will never have to leave the easy/farming stages, so you are in a perfect spot come red timer - I'm surprised more people haven't picked up on it yet, but there you have it. Anyway - if anyone read this try it out. You won't improve as fast at the game, and you won't unlock many levels, but your win% will likely skyrocket. I'm sure in a week or so this playstyle will become the norm, but for now you can capitalize on it and get a big bump in performance.
Yeah that’s the trick and I already got 100 wins for now. Still, I like to play harder levels like 4-1 to get Lakitus. In Castle 4-4 you can loop the enemies and use stars or shells to get time everytime. Just take the wrong path. Of course you need some luck to get there but it’s still a good trick. It’s funny to beat all these Level 50-99 ⭐️ Japan player. ^^ I‚m near to the max? star level 99 or 100 too. :P
That's really impressive, and I didn't know that but did I also haven't really gotten out of world 3 yet :) I usually only complete 8 or so courses when I win. I would also add that warp zones are ok to use, but only once the red timer really starts moving. Using them earlier than that is risky because they skip extra levels. Thanks fo the reply from a true master, though.
@@jamiemc2313 The Worlds 1-3 are the easiest to farm time and coins. I only unlocked the other worlds 4-8, cuz I want to get stronger enemies and got bored after so many easy runs and wins. So I glitched every Level to unlock them and now it’s more challenging and funny. :) 4-1 & 6-1 are the best levels for Lakitus and 8-3 is the best level for Hammer Bros. To be honest, you don’t need to get them, cuz I got attacked with 100 of Lakitus from other players a lot. Hopefully they will make a SMB Lost Levels update for pros. ^^
@@mithosyggdrasill7399 Yeah, I played it for a week and ended with a 52% 1st place rate. It was beyond easy if you used the above strat, even if you have no talent like me. With a little bit of skill you could approach a 90% win rate with it for sure. The change I would add is it's ok to use warp zones if you're falling behind in the red timer, but not otherwise (you lose a level when you warp)
@@jamiemc2313 I don’t know my win rate. And what exactly do you mean with losing a level with warp zones? I don’t rlly understand, cuz I use them everytime no matter what. At least in 1-2. I never taked the normal exit in there for now. Nothing rlly bad happened to me. You can take your favorite levels instead to get a random one and still get some time. In 4-2 you will skip that cave level, but I don’t rlly care. Oh, and with warp zones I don’t mean normal pipes, I mean the ones where you can chose a world or level.
4:18-4:24 I just had a normal match where I started at 1-3 very recently! So no, it's not 100% always at World 1-1! If anything, I'd say just about 99.99% right now.
How stage select works: Everyone picks a level to add to the 35-level lineup, and then its randomly placed in the same order for everyone. Every time you beat a level, it's never trying to send you to the Actual Game Order, instead you are always taken to the next level in the queue. They make sure to not place the same exact stage back to back, and they try to keep them generally in Actual Game Order if possible, so the later stages happen later in the game you won't be going right from 1-1 to 8-3. WARP PIPES are just jumping ahead in the lineup. From left to right it's [4 ahead] [3 ahead] [2 ahead] and skips the [1 ahead] because if you wanted that stage you just don't warp. This means it IS possible to miss your own pick if you are trying to unlock stages, because there's no way to go back without doing the whole queue over again.
The most dangerous parts of the game are when opponents ignore you and no one attacks you. You aren't sent enemies. So what I try to do is manually choose or pressing random and hope they retaliate, or ensure you are the coin leader
Here is a small tip for people, if you do attackers and the swap between random and attackers multiple times, it will add more people to attack you and for you to attack and on castle stages going on attackers mode will be high risk high reward since you can’t use many roulettes since it’s early on and you can get several bowsers at once
Right now, I'm warping ahead to get the harder levels.. so I can spam Latiku on the newbies and kill them for coins.. and at the same time, help prevent those boring times where no one is dying. If you got the skill, get off the easy levels!
Important note on roulette that I've seen many people miss is that if you hit X again after rolling, it will select the item immediately. So you don't need to stop and wait. ~Rank 464, 3500 coins pb
Kosmic, I think you are the best pro at this I've ever seen! I think I can still offer you a little advice as a casual observer. I notice that if you kill bowser with fireballs, this not only takes a bit of time, but you are only awarded 5 seconds. If you can quickly bypass bowser and jump straight for the axe, not only is this quicker, but you are rewarded much more time for the bowser kill! Cheers!
This is super helpful. I didn't play a 2d mario until my 20s and started this last week. I have quite a few wins but I tend to get buggered by lack of coins in the final 5 especially if there's a Lakitu party. I didn't know quite a few of those coin locations so thanks!
Step 1. Master the base game for years, knowing everything about the game inside and out becoming a very prestigious speed runner Step 2. Win easy oh yeah! 😎
I have a strategy to really boost the economy early on. It works like 75% of the time and often gets 2-3 ko very early and you can get easily 150 on the timer, if not 200 just in 1-1. From the start, you take "attackers" and speed rush to the first 2 coins at the beginning in the blocks. Right off the bat you probably will have at least 2 person who targets you, up to 5-6. Then, make sure to speed stomp the most you can while taking coin boxes. You will remain targetted for 1-1. When you get the 1-1 star, you'll already have a bunch of ennemies to kill. Since you're sending a lot of stuff back unto 4-5 people, you often gets K.O as a result :) From there, you can concentrate more on coins, because you will have so much time in the bank early.
It would actually be possible, even with all the stages the original any% run has. This game skips the flag timer countdown, which takes a large part of the speedrun.
@@KrazyKyle-ij9vb Anything past 4:54.03 is impossible from what we know so far. Anything past 4:54.26 (i think) is impossible without left+right, and the max human limit is prob around 4:54.8-9
It’s easy to win. I already got 100 wins and sometimes I have 400 sec left, even when the clock are red, and 1000+ coins. Just chill, kill most enemies with jump or shell combo, collect as many coins as you can and only use it at the end when u need it for mass enemies. You don’t need to run all the time. Most time u will have 400 sec left if u do this. ^^
Since no one mention about this from what I see so far. Be careful of Hammer Bros if you decided to run pass them. For some reason, it will chase you like a maniac if you dont outrun it far enough. (I guess it because they want to reposition itself back to the right side of the screen.)
i like 8-4 because it has a little bit of variety in enemies, there's an underwater section, hammer bros, fireballs... you can go back and revisit areas on purpose by not following the correct route, and it taunts players into sending you enemies because its a castle level, but if you are good enough to have that stage available then you probably are fine on coins and can spam powerups to kill whatever is sent to you. Good players want people to send them enemies.
Close to the end I actually start spamming that roulette, every mushroom'/flower you roll that you already have or better gives you +15 seconds, can make the difference between loosing and winning.
Dude I like your vids but please, PLEASE, get rid of "smash that like button!". You're seriously above that. I swear that is the cringiest cry of desperation that every single youtuber already says, and desperation can be a very foul stench. If I were a content creator, I would only ask people to hit or click (certainly not "smash") the like button at the END of the video when they can develop a full assessment of the video. I mean, would you blindly say you like a band without hearing them first? Of course not. I'd rather have genuine, unsolicited opinions of my content rather than trying to talk people into liking my content before I've even started the video. I don't mean to jump your shit by no means, but I feel you have something really good here and just want to see you become the best you can be.
If it's 1v1 (maybe 2) the timer's red, the opponent has a bunch of coins, and you have 400 seconds, wouldn't it be best *not* to send enemies? At that point isn't it more likely that you're helping than hurting?
Did not win a game in maybe 70 attempts. Best result was third. Watched this video and other videos by you for a couple days while shiny hunting in Pokemon. After I got my shiny, I went back to Mario 35, and won my first game. Mostly thanks to your strats.
Hey Kosmic, have you seen Minato Aqua play? I'm just a scrub so I have a hard time telling how good others are, but she seemed super good the other day I was watching her and was curious about your thoughts. Thanks for all your content, love it!
This game is fun but is more like a survivor SMB1 than an actual BR. Though both terms are kinda the same it is really hard to get KOs and rounds take forever, the only way to get rid of people is by waiting if they do any mistake. They pretty much took the concept of Tetris 99 but that game is even better as a BR
I mean, I don't need this, but I'm curious what you have to say! Edit: Although I haven't used practise mode, and haven't done duck jumps yet, as far as I recall! Edit 2: And I don't know where most of the special blocks are either. It's fun to learn while playing, though. :P And I'm on a five streak anyway, so I feel like I don't need the extra help. :P Edit 3: Okay, honestly, this does seem quite useful. I will check that out for the next special round!

And thanks to you! This is great advice
The levels all appear to be in a sequential list for everyone actually, not shuffled. Next video talks about that!
Also, something that almost no one uses, you can press X after you pressed it for the roulette and you get the power up almost instantly

That "Smash that subscribe button" text looked so HD I thought TH-cam brought back annotations, but just for like 3 seconds.
3-2 is a great level for building time with the long shell kicks and star into a straight enemy-filled run
Great vid, immediately won after watching it. Going back to 1-2 via warp zone is a really handy method.
Great thoughts!
If I get a star and nobody is attacking, I like to switch to random for a while and when switching back to attackers, usually more people are attacking.
Not sure but I think the opponents using attackers while having noone else attacking them are the ones that keep attacking you even after you target someone else / switch strategy.
Another important mechanic that I think you don’t know about: If you spam the roulette button, it will go much faster.
W h a t
If you played Mario Kart in later generations, roulette early stop can be used here as well.
Despite the game being done for now, this is still a very fun video to watch!
Thanks for the tips. I've played some levels, but I've only get 1st once. I need more practice in later levels.
I know from Tetris 99 some stratevy. You should be actively switching your attack method to attackers when you have more than one.
If someone is not sending you enemies, you couod manually switch over and switch back, but targeting least time does that job fine.I
In Tetris 99the top attack option is best in regular cases, but in Mario I like the right hand option, as people will die pretty easily regardless of time, especially early on.
The coins cant help you if you time out. The number priority in this game is to keep your time up as long as possible.
I didn't realize those gave you extra time! I will do that in the future now!
Tha Man, The Myth, and The Legend, Kosmic releasing another great video! I love Mario 35, and I love watching Kosmic’s videos and speedruns.
Two pieces of advice I don't see newbies taking:
I just point mine at attackers at the start, gives me enough enemies that even with fireballs I have max seconds by the 3rd or 4th level
But it's slow progress and thus not flashy :p
the problem right now is I want to get through levels ASAP running fast because i want to unlock new levels and play the ones that arent on my list.
I find it funny that framerules are 0.35 second and everything about this is 35
There's some value in learning when you can just run and jump.
I wasn't expecting a serious tutorial lol
I’m not sure if you have the qualifications to make this guide Kosmic. Are you like a world record holder for classic SMB games or something?
Jokes aside, great vid :3
Underground levels are always a win-win situation when it comes to earning enough time and coins alike.
I‚m near to the max? star level 99 or 100 too.
4-1 & 6-1 are the best levels for Lakitus and 8-3 is the best level for Hammer Bros.
Knowing where all the 1-Ups are is really good
I need more of this, it's so much fun to watch
Thanks for the guide for this. I have been struggling to even get top 5, but now I rarely don't get too 10
How stage select works:
Everyone picks a level to add to the 35-level lineup, and then its randomly placed in the same order for everyone.
I'm on #1 Win 8 and I've been in the top 3 quite often. This game is so much damn fun
The most dangerous parts of the game are when opponents ignore you and no one attacks you. You aren't sent enemies. So what I try to do is manually choose or pressing random and hope they retaliate, or ensure you are the coin leader
imagine playing a match of this game unaware you were competing against one of the best (or even just THE best) SMB players in the world
Here is a small tip for people, if you do attackers and the swap between random and attackers multiple times, it will add more people to attack you and for you to attack and on castle stages going on attackers mode will be high risk high reward since you can’t use many roulettes since it’s early on and you can get several bowsers at once
Can you make a video focused on your 'wall bounce' you show at 5:24? I tried and failed to get this.
Step 1. Master the base game for years, knowing everything about the game inside and out becoming a very prestigious speed runner
Step 2. Win
easy oh yeah! 😎
Step 3. Cry because the game will not exist anymore
Damn I'm loving these videos! Can't wait to see you do challenges on this game too
Thanks kosmic, after watching this 3 months ago I currently have 42 wins!
watching videos for the last 2 years. Subscribed today.
Since you're sending a lot of stuff back unto 4-5 people, you often gets K.O as a result :)
From there, you can concentrate more on coins, because you will have so much time in the bank early.
*"how to win mario 35"*
step 1: just do a 4:54 run, is not that hard
yeah im a comedy master
It would actually be possible, even with all the stages the original any% run has. This game skips the flag timer countdown, which takes a large part of the speedrun.
Yeah but the warps are different and levels repeat a lot
@@antoniojoaquinruizalfonso4232 4:48 run possible?
@@KrazyKyle-ij9vb Sub 4 might be possible.
@@KrazyKyle-ij9vb Anything past 4:54.03 is impossible from what we know so far. Anything past 4:54.26 (i think) is impossible without left+right, and the max human limit is prob around 4:54.8-9
Really enjoying your streams!
I miss this game more every day...
This definitely helped alot!! I might be able to compete against the best mario player!!
*But for real probably not*

Me: Yeah just survive
Riccopenguin Some people are getting pretty good, actually, so this doesn't always work anymore.
Can playing levels with freeze frames help? Example: going into a pipe freezes the time. I choose 8-4 for that. Is 8-4 a good stage to play?
That sounds like a cool, and potentially powerful strat, especially when it goes into red time
It can help stall time since your timer stops
i like 8-4 because it has a little bit of variety in enemies, there's an underwater section, hammer bros, fireballs... you can go back and revisit areas on purpose by not following the correct route, and it taunts players into sending you enemies because its a castle level, but if you are good enough to have that stage available then you probably are fine on coins and can spam powerups to kill whatever is sent to you. Good players want people to send them enemies.
EmbassyNerdcore I played that level so much trying to beat the game so I'm used to it
Close to the end I actually start spamming that roulette, every mushroom'/flower you roll that you already have or better gives you +15 seconds, can make the difference between loosing and winning.
Would you like that 1-2 level warp zone sent you to levels like 8-3 with so many hammer bros or levels with hammer browsers?
me watching this after learning the game is no longer available and I'll never be able to play it again, just to suffer:
I kind of love that Speedrunners can flex a bit with this new 'Battle Royale' Mario.
Be good at the original game and bang your head on the table when you find that the physics are different
who did that?
Kosmic I did minus the good at the original game
Similar enough
Do you think that if it's down to one-on-one and you have lots of time, it makes sense to stop killing enemies so that you starve your opponent?
Lovin these Super Mario 35 videos.
OMG..that kicking koopa n fire fireball afterwards is really good trick
We need to have Nintendo keep this game up forever. I’m so addicted!
I still miss this game :c

Fire flower. Always the fire flower. As long as you have the fire flower, you'll be golden.
When you are trying to win Super Mario 35 but then a speedrunner shows up.
Fantastic play! What does the star mean next to your level by the way?
If it's 1v1 (maybe 2) the timer's red, the opponent has a bunch of coins, and you have 400 seconds, wouldn't it be best *not* to send enemies? At that point isn't it more likely that you're helping than hurting?
Thanks, this was really helpful! Especially since I haven’t won yet :(
This is super helpful. Thank you kosmic
Dude I just noticed "Miyamotospoop" is at the top of the video... dang.
What about remapping the buttons in the Switch settings to make the controls better?
Did not win a game in maybe 70 attempts. Best result was third. Watched this video and other videos by you for a couple days while shiny hunting in Pokemon. After I got my shiny, I went back to Mario 35, and won my first game. Mostly thanks to your strats.
I won.. when it was released in the first 24 hours. I've never won again ever since
Excuse my ignorance cuz maybe the game tells us but what makes the time turn red and start going faster ?
Great choice for the outro theme.
Hey Kosmic, have you seen Minato Aqua play? I'm just a scrub so I have a hard time telling how good others are, but she seemed super good the other day I was watching her and was curious about your thoughts. Thanks for all your content, love it!
This was really useful! Thank you!
Thanks, I've gotten 2nd like 5 times and its very annoying .-.
You should reset the attackers option if no one sending to you enemies.
Im bad because I mostly play mario maker 2 and the movement kills me
This game is fun but is more like a survivor SMB1 than an actual BR. Though both terms are kinda the same it is really hard to get KOs and rounds take forever, the only way to get rid of people is by waiting if they do any mistake.
They pretty much took the concept of Tetris 99 but that game is even better as a BR
this information is worth millions
What controller do you use for this & is it wired or no? Am wondering how you get your input lag down.
Great video. Do you have a view on how some players are achieving 99999 coins? Thanks
Edit 3: Okay, honestly, this does seem quite useful. I will check that out for the next special round!
