  • With both Halloween and the release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife right around the corner, Adam unboxes and reviews Hasbro's Plasma Series Neutrona Wand inspired by the Spengler prop seen in the new film. Adam can barely contain his excitement over the attention to detail, lights and sound features, and handling experience of this prop replica, which rivals that of the kits he's come across over the years. It's a fantastic time to be a Ghostbusters fan and cosplayer!

I remember so many toys growing up where it was clear the toy designer had made no effort to make it like the object on the show it was from.
I loved the Playmates series of Star Trek toys. They are the first ones I can remember that actually looked like someone put effort into them. The phasers, disruptors, d'k tahg, tricorders, etc. did such a good job of balancing play and cost considerations with feeling like you were holding something from the series.
The Kenner Ghostbuster toys of the same era, though...were a lot less fun. They were based on the cartoon, to be fair, but even then there was barely even a passing resemblance. I'm so glad to see a good option for Ghostbusters fans finally.

Managed to grab one of these for my collection a couple of months ago. Love what Hasbro did with this prop! Also, the different firing modes relate to the upgrades done to the pack within the Ghostbusters Video Game from Atari. Including the Slime Blower, Boson Darts and Stasis Beam/Blaster.

@@Unhallowed_Saint right, but the fire mode changes have nothing to do with the boson dart, and he was referencing the fire mode changes. The boson dart is just the powered shot for the basic proton stream.
The Meson Colider is the final alt fire mode which is accessed from the orange button, not the boson dart. You can however simulate the boson dart a bit by tapping the intensify button while on proton stream mode as opposed to holing it. Just like you can simulate the slime teather, Shock blast, and thr overload pulse through the same means.

Bought this on the back of this review a couple of weeks ago. Now usually you know a reviewer is being a little (or a lot) kind to the product because it was given free, or to build a relationship for more products in the future. You accept that as a fact of life. And then when it comes to a person as rich and famous as Adam Savage you expect the usual Hollywood reluctance to say anything negative about anything in their sphere. Because that's their life. But what sold me on this was the joy on Adams face, the childish delight in his eyes when he switched it on and heard that joyous power up noise. I bought it soon after and I'll tell you what, for the near €170 it took to get this thing into my hands, I have not regretting it for a second. This thing is spectacular in every way. It is just beautiful and the sound effects are weighty and authentic. It will fill you with pure nostalgia and excitement just holding it. And then you let your 5 yo son hold it, and see the joy on his face as he blasts imaginary slimers. Some moments are worth any amount of money. If you love Ghostbusters and are on the fence, trust a stranger on a youtube comment, you will never regret this purchase.

I think my only issue I personally had with it, was the display stand. It sadly doesn't last long as the stand pieces that hold up the wand were not properly enforced to hold the weight of the prop. Adam you have to build that super cool tool box. To keep that outstanding wand in. Please one day build.

Very true what Adam said - I'm amazed toy companies have not done more to latch onto cosplayers as a potential big market.

I'm so glad I bought 2 when they were first available. For $99 each, shipped, its well worth the price.
I have one on my homemade pack. (circa 2015) and I have the other for my Plasma Series Proton Pack which ships in March of next year. (2023)

This is a real good one Adam , I think the orange meter harkens from GB-1 the ballroom scene when Egon kindly asks Venkman something like "Venkman would you narrow your beam , I'd like not to get my face melted off ", or a quote similar ,so orange meter possibly "Beam Width" , love your videos ,they are movie quality compared to mine ,,,keep rocking Adam 🎃🎃👍

The replica Clippard valve is also not molded into the wand, but a fully separate piece held on by two screws. So if you have a real Clippard lying around, you can swap it onto the wand in about 30 seconds. Absolutely amazing work by Hasbro, above and beyond all expectations.

I found out recently that the "Belt-Hanger " is not for hanging on your belt. During making the first film, the busters were having difficulty removing the wands from the pack as the metal wedge was sitting in a position that would not let them slide it out with ease. The hook was added to push the wand away from the pack at slightly different angle which helped the busters to remove it more smoothly.

7:45 those modes are from the Ghostbusters: The Video Game. if you hold the proton stream down long enough, you'll get the pack cooling effect/siren.

The aluminum knob on top is paying attention to the first film. In the ballroom fighting Slimer, Egon's "Venkman, shorten your stream! I don't want my face burnt off!" That's the knob Venkman uses to pull back on the stream intensity.
