Todd Said Something Rather Concerning - This Is Why I Taught Todd To Talk!

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 7 ก.ค. 2024
- I just returned home from a 7-day business trip and one of the first things Todd tells me is Glamour’s back is not happy. I looked her over and her back does seem a little sensitive. She is not in distress but seems sore. I will get a vet appointment and get it checked out. Glamour is 15 years old and it may just be the effects of getting older. No matter what it is we will see what we can do so she is comfortable.
Todd is a 7-year-old neutered male cat at the time of this video. Todd and his dad have been learning to communicate with each other since May of 2022 with the help of recordable buttons. We aim to let Todd express himself and tell me his wants and needs. Currently, Todd has 53 words on his soundboard. This channel is dedicated to Todd learning to “talk”. If you would like to see more of Todd and his day-to-day life please visit his Facebook page.

So, at the vet, dad says “I’m here because Todd said to look at Glamour’s back”
I have already had this conversation with them. Todd had some oral surgery, and he told me his mouth was hurting well after the time he should be healed. I took him to the vet, and he confirmed what tidd was saying and was impressed.
@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks That is so amazing. I've never thought about what the talking animals' vets are thinking about this communication.
My senior cat is 15, and I feel like this would have been a great tool had I known about it sooner. I’m sure I can teach him even now, I bet he’d have a lot to tell me
@@silverhoney6969 Billi was 12 when she started and made it to 70 words
Todd is an empath cat. "want happy" is a very inventive way of saying "ouch". Todd is a cat-bard.
I took it more as a I hope she feels better.
@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks I took it that way as well as I seem to remember that he used "happy" to describe when he felt better when he had been experiencing pain not that long ago.
@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks Yes, he may have meant "I want Glamour to be happy."
William Todd-speare 😉
@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks well but there's the old meaning of "in want of being happy" for "not happy". This is such a deep communication.
Glamor doesn't use buttons, so Todd communicated for her. Shows he cares about his housemates. Hope Glamor is alright!
He does and I think she will be.
@@buckeyehockey1979 Todd is the "Glamour Whisperer"
Awwww.. Todd is saying he want's Glamour's back to be happy. He knows she has an ouch and is asking Dad to fix it- because Dad's can fix everything! What a sweetie Todd is. Lot's of love to the whole family- particularly Glamour to feel better soon!
Thank you 😊
He could have picked ouch, but he chose want happy instead. It indicates that he understands words associated with different contexts, like pain vs irritation etc. Above all, it tells us about his attentive and gentle personality ❤🐱animals are amazing!
I agree, but I took it more of a she is uncomfortable, and I want her to feel better.
Glamor does not use the board to talk, so Todd talked for her, hope she is ok, nothing worse then
a cat with discomfort and not being able to tell you! great job Todd, please pet Todd for me.
Thank you and I will! 😊
What a good boy, he couldn’t wait to tell you, hope Glamour is ok🤞
Me too, thank you.
Linguist, interspecies ambassador, inventor, and now empath. Todd is a superior being for sure. ❤
Thank you
Aww, "want happy" shows that Todd is very empathic and wishes her all the best, that's so sweet.
He must have observed her attentively and is concerned. I hope Glamour feels better soon.
I thought it was an interesting choice as well. He didn't say ouch, which he knows, it was more I want her to feel better.
Todd is so smart it's scary. And how thoughtful of him to tell you about Glamour when she can't tell you herself.
I give one of my cats Cosequin for arthritis.
He is a very smart and thoughtful boy.
Shows that they do communicate with each other and altruism is observed in other animals.
Agreed
I'm so glad Todd could communicate his concern to you. I hope that there is nothing seriously wrong with Glamour.
I think she is, but I would rather be safe.
Using words in a new way or to express a new thought process, is the hallmark of language. This is a step beyond that often thought to only be the purview of humans or high intelligence (like dolphins)….clearly Todd shows empathy is not just human and communication seeking cooperation is not either. Nothing short of astounding. Wow 😮
Thank you 😊
That’s Doctor Todd, thank you very much.
😊
I thought he meant Glamour had scratched his back…. But he is so smart, by not using want happy rather than ouch he showed that his feelings were for her. Beautiful soul ❤❤❤ well done Dad for raising such a sweet boy 🎉
Yes that is the way I took it as well. More of a I want her to feel better.
Yes I think this is one of the main reasons people need to help with communication boards for the animals that live with them.. very impressive
Thank you 😊
Awww Todd deserves extra treat for that one and mebe thats why Glamur is bit grouchy if she has athritis it could explaine it hope it goes well for her at the vet
Yes, he got two treats. It is hard to tell with Glamour because she has been grouchy her entire life.
I can imagine the phone call… “My cat told me that my other cat is in pain.” 🤔
Lol, we have had that conversation already. Todd had some oral surgery a while back, and we'll after he sold have been all healed up he told me his mouth hurt. The vet found the issue. When I went in, I told him Todd said his head hurts, and I think it's still his mouth. Then, I had to explain. He believed me right away, I was prepared to show him the video.
This is the absolutely perfect video to show anyone who still does not believe in buttons.
I hope Glamour feels better soon. Todd is always mindful of her, so it makes sense he’d bring it up. It’s interesting that he thought it was important enough to mention it right away instead of asking about getting some cuddles or if he can play, then bringing up his concerns about her.
In the relatively short time I’ve been watching, he’s tackled bigger and bigger concepts as he teaches himself (and you) to combine words & phrases.
He’s such a good boy. 💜
I hope y’all have a great holiday & that the vet visit is uneventful because she’s feeling better. 🎇🎆
Thank you so much 😊
Great observations. Todd is very special.
Aww it is so cute he is concerned about glamour
He is a very sweet boy
Maybe she told Todd that she was hurting
Todd the spokescat for the win!
"Do you think Glamour's Back ouch?"
Todd rubs against his human as a reward for being so smart and getting it on the first try.
Hope Glamour is well. Might be worth considering some hot discs for her to lay on. These soothe muscles for cats in poor health. My vet stocks them.
I still have heating pads from a previous senior cat who lived to be 20.
Thanks for the laugh "Todd rubs against his human as a reward . . ." Worded purrrfectly.
I thought the same thing about Todd's affectionate rub. 😀
You raise an important point. It seems to me that when trying to increase communication with our companion animals by teaching them to use *our* language, we also need to be observant of and open to *their* natural means of communication. Our pets are communicating with us all the time and often we probably aren't catching the full context of what they are trying to tell us, although anyone who loves a pet knows that after awhile you both get to understand each other pretty well. Thus, if Todd's sentence using the buttons is important, so are the other cues he would naturally use to get his meaning across. It's tempting to want him to use buttons to confirm his Dad got it right, but maybe he doesn't think that's necessary if his affectionate caress was his reply. Not trying to lay down absolutes here, just speculating about the "mixed media" cats (and dogs) might choose to use to communicate.
@@mountainkimmie Oh, I agree with you.
With cats, it's also worth keeping in mind that they're the only animals to have domesticated themselves. So cats in particular are likely to engage in training us.
Todd is not only extremely intelligent, he is also very empathetic. It is always fascinating to see what goes on in his head.
Me too. He amazes me daily
Todd is such a great little guy, imagine if he is able to alert you early enough to issues that you may not find out till later when it is a bigger issue.it is amazing what they know and we do not realize they are aware of. I hope all the kitties have a nice calm night and not get too scared of fireworks.
Thank you. This is why I wanted Todd to learn to talk. Todd has a chronic condition where he can get very sick very fast, and I want him to be able to tell me before he shows signs.
Please keep us posted 🙏🐈
Will do, thank you.
I do believe cats talk to eachother psychically. I hope Glamour is ok. So amazing that Todd can speak for himself and others. ❤
I agree
All animals do, including between species. They don't misunderstand each other, they know full well what the other is communicating.
I definitely believe too that cats use body language to talk with each other, so he must have seen from Glamours body language that she has some pain.
Yes, the scientist Rupert Sheldrake writes about this.
@@teijaflink2226 I think its more than body language... the other button talking cat Russell from "catmanjohn" channel tells his mom when his cat siblings want certain toys to play with, or certain foods they want to eat (like wet or dry food)... which would take more than body language to know.
As usual with Todd, there is not one amazing thing in his communication...but several
1) Glamour bit him in the back-and he is not taking revenge by not telling, but tells dad about her discomfort. +100 for character.
2) How does he know? He must watch her and determine from her behavior the discomfort. +100 for observation, +1000 for having a model of another cats inner state.
3) He finds a way to communicate that sth. is wrong with Glamour. +100 for innovative use of Button
4) impeccable character and smarts. +1 000 000 000 for that ;-)
Thank you, he is a special boy
There is a bona fide animal researcher in the field called etiology, by the name of Rupert Sheldrake. He has written that he thinks animals can communicate telepathically amongst themselves. He's worth a read if you're interested. Just like humans, they are not opaque to each other, they talk, in their way.
Todd has an amazing understanding. We know animals are on things before we are but he knew how to say it to get you to take action.
Thank you so much
You can see his little kitty brain just thinking about which button to push
Yes, I think the want happy was specific and on purpose. He knows ouch. I think the want happy was I want her to feel better.
That's amazing! What a wonderful boy he is.
I think so too!
How does Todd manage to fit such a big heart into that tiny little furry chest of his?
He is amazing, I love that furry man.
@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks He's the bestest boy!
I hope Glamour is alright. Todd is so empathetic. It is truly amazing to witness him communicate like this.
Thank you, it is.
What a smart, aware and empathetic cat.😊
He really is.
Wow! Just so wonderful for Todd to tell you that Glamour wasn´t feeling well and beeing in pain. Now that is COMMUNICATION between species !!!!
Ageed!
Awww…he sure loves his Glamour!
He really does.
Animals can communicate telepathically, I belive. Glamour told Todd and Todd relayed the message. How awesome is that? Todd is such a sweet and caring kitty. Todd also said "want happy" as opposed to "ouch". Very profound. 😎😁 I hope Glamour will be ok. ❤
I noticed that, too. I thought it was an "I want her to feel better."
@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks You know your kitty, best! 😎
Amazing.
Thanks!
Good luck to Glamour! Well done, TODD!
Thank you 😊
Wauw, that he can communicate this, stays unbelievable! I hope Glamour can be helped quickly❤😊
The is not in distress so we don't need the emergency vet, it is a holiday today in the US so I will call in the morning.
@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks - Since you were gone 7days, Glamour may be feeling better now. But it was concerning enough for Todd to tell you first thing. Definitely worth checking into it. Todd is amazing🥰
That look on his face and the ears while he is looking for the right word… wow!
Todd is very particular about the words he chooses. He really thinks what he wants to say.
What a sweetheart. ❤ Todd is taking care of his family and keeping his eye on everything 💞
He is a loving and caring boy
Todd is such a sweet soul! He deserves and got the best Dad ever! ❤
Aww, thank you!
What a sweet and caring boy❤️❤️❤️
He truly is.
What a wonderful little brother! If we all had such wonderful siblings.❤
❤️
He astounds me every time! He is so smart, sweet, and caring! ❤ Hes a very special cat!
Thank you, I think so, too. 😊
Awww. That is so sweet of Todd to be concerned about Glamor. Some cats are so empathetic! I love that.
Thank you
Wow. Todd is really something special.
Thank you, I think so too.
What a good, smart, boy you are Todd! ❤
😊
Aw, Todd is displaying how empathic and altruistic cats are when it comes to their family. I hope Glamour's back is happy soon. Happy 4th of July!
Thank you, the same to you and yours
How absolutely SWEET is that?!
It is so sweet 😊
I feel like this could be kind of a historical event. It's just so amazing. It shows that not only can Todd communicate, but also that he's capable of talking about the needs of another cat, and about something that is really important and should be addressed. I just feel like that this whole interaction requires a pretty high level of brain development. I know other things have been noticed, like he plans his day ahead of time, likes to make appointments for certain events, can tell what time of day it is, and invents new toys. And he has shown empathy for Glamour and Paulie before. And I know that cats are very empathetic. But it still seems so amazing because Glamour really was hurt, and he alerted you about that immediately.
I agree. I have felt this way ever since he started combining words together in ways I did not teach him to express ideas I had not taught him. It showed he not only truly understands with word or concept he is pressing but his own feelings/wants and their meanings. My go to example is before he had or learned Mad and he only had happy when something happened he did not like he started saying Happy No
what a blessing that Todd is able to communicate to you when one of your companions isn't feeling well
He truly is. He is a special boy
That is amazing and not surprising for Todd! He is smart and empathetic!😻😻😻
Thank you
Good boy, Todd! How incredibly intelligent and compassionate he his.
He really is 😊
I'm so impressed with the way that Todd thinks very carefully about how he wants to communicate what he wants to say. We can literally see him sitting there and thinking about how to tell you what's wrong with Glamour. With only a very limited number of words at his disposal, it's so interesting to see how he puts them together to say something that he doesn't have a button for. It's also interesting to see that he used the buttons to tell you something about another cat, and not himself. I wonder if he'll do this again.
You're so lucky to have this special relationship with Todd.❤❤
Thank you, and I am blessed by our bond we have. He amazes me daily.
What a good boy Todd is! Being in my early 60s, I want my back happy too, which it isn't, a lot of the time, so I can empathize with Glamour.
Thank you. I hope you find some relief for your back ouch
That’s such a beautiful thing, by giving Todd the gift of human language, he has already made them more than worthwhile just to find out that glamour’s back is sore. Usually we don’t find out until our animals can’t hide the pain or illness any more. Todd definitely earned those treats.
I agree. Todd was amazing. He has told me when he hurt on the past but never someone else.
Todd is such a good boy. He's worried about Glamour. ❤️
He really is
I wonder if Todd will let you know when Glamour's back is happy again.
It will be interesting to see
@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks You can ask him!
Just discovered your and Todd’s channel this afternoon and wish I had come across you guys a long time ago! Todd is nothing short of amazing, a tiny genius in a gorgeous little feline body! I am just bowled over by the fact that he wasted no time letting you know about Glamour’s back issue. Incredible that he chose “want happy” to express how he wants Glamour’s back to feel good and “happy” again.
So sweet! So glad I found your channel! I have been binging a bit. Hope you all had a great holiday!
Thank you, and I'm glad you are here! Welcome!
Please keep us posted on Glamour’s vet visit. I hope it’s nothing serious.
Me too, there doesn't appear to be, or I would have taken her to the emergency vet.
Todd is a very empathic boy. Sending Glamour healing energy. Please give Todd a belly rub for me. May the vet visit reveal nothing serious and Glamour is back to her usual self soon.
Thank you and I hope so
This is amazing. Todd is so observant and caring.
Thank you
And people say our animals don't understand us. They obviously do, we just need to learn to listen and these boards are incredible. Todd is one handsome and lovely boy.
Thank you
Ah, Todd is a genius kitty, compassionate too 😊❤
Thank you 😊
That's amazing! Good boy, Todd.😊
Thank you! 😃
It truly is amazing what cats know and haven’t been able to express it since now! They do know bits of our language like how a two year old would know!
Agreed, and they are much smarter than people give them credit for
Our animal friends communicate so much to each other and know so much more than we realize! Thank goodness Todd was able to tell you about Glamour's back!
I agree, it may have taken a few days to notice. I check on my babies everyday but Glamour is spicy to say the least and uncomfortable Glamour is not much different from normal Glamour.
That is so impressive! I thought he was gonna say Glamour had "ouched" his back. I hope the vet confirms your suspicions and that it is nothing too serious. Todd is such a lovely boy. 💚🐈
Thank you, I will update everyone once she goes to the vet.
So amazing like he’s worried.
He adores Glamour, I think he cares a lot
Todd is so smart and what a kind and caring cat he is. Truly one of the best.
Thank you 😊
Wow. That is amazing. What a good brother Todd!
Thank you kindly
I don't know how you're managing Glamour's arthritis, or what your vet has recommended. There is a monthly injection that worked extremely well for my elderly kitty and made her last years much more comfortable and restored much of her mobility. Its Solencia. Might want to see what your vet thinks.
I don't know if that is what is bothering her, just a guess on my part with her age. If it is and the vet recommends it we will do it
Always good to teach them their body parts and the term ouch. It was the first significant turning point of official communication with the FluentPet buttons when Bunny the Talking Dog said when she had a foxtail seed embedded in her paw which can turn very bad for dogs.
I remember that
That was truly stunning.
Todd is so sweet. I loved how concerned he was about Glamour.
He is a very sweet boy
Well I'm flabbergasted. He's keeping his eyes open while you're away - incredible! At first I thought he was saying that you were back, but he doesn't use that word except for the body part, does he?
He's your deputy.
I ha e not noticed him use it for anything else, but I would not be surprised. I believe he uses his No button for no and know.
@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks wow
@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks and since you had just returned from a trip, "back" might have been in that context, but you waited and asked for more. I bet your wife (and the vet) still thinks it's wild when you tell her things like "Todd told me that Glamour's back hurts" because even though we watch all of these videos (and the vet has confirmed previous times Todd said something hurt) i am still super impressed each time something so awesome happens! ❤
He amazes me daily and I live with him. Lol
Our Kitty is 16.4 years old. Earlier this year, her x ray showed bone on bone in the last part of her back, poor thing, so since, then she receives Solensia shot once a month, she enjoys her play time so much more. Todd is a good boy!
I'm glad it is helping your kitty. I will update this afternoon on what the vet says.
Awww! He's so sweet! No one will ever convince me that cats don't have emotions.
They absolutely do have them.
Todd is very cute. I could see the little wheels turning in deciding what would make you understand. ❤❤❤❤❤
Yes, he is very serious about his words and tries to find the best he can with the words he has.
Very smart of him, and also very sweet to care about Glamour. I feel like all the people who say cats don't care need to see this. He was concerned enough to tell you about it, so that counts for something!
