Beautiful video, thanks for sharing, never give up and always keep pushing forwards! Next time build up that wish lists of future games, so you are more successful, so you can have more time, so you can continue pursuing what you truly love :)

congrats on making them money on steam. I also plan to put my game out there as well and I was a bit afraid my game will never be even seen by customers as it will get swallowed by other big games. but I'm more hopeful now.

Check out Chris Zukowski materials, and check games similar to yours (with similar quality and amount of content) how well they're doing. Numbers of reviews often correlate with the sales.

Good luck!! It's easy to get put off, but you'll never know until you publish something :)

Wishlist doesn't effect steam algorithims but it DOES effect sales. If 10-20% of your steam wishlist buy your game on release, then wishlist numbers do matter. Not to mention any discounts goes straight to email and notification bell on steam too. Also the wishlists are a good indicator of general awareness of your game. 10k wishlists + good numbers on social media is a good indicator that your not releasing into the void. So its certainly not nothing.
More then that its also pshycology. People want to play a game other people are playing so if you have those positive reviews flowing in from day one, it gives other buyers improved confidence in their purchase decision. Definitely don't discount marketing and wishlists. Theres a reason indie devs and publishers harp on it so much

Yeah you're 100% right, wishlists are still a hugely important marketing tool. I think I wasn't clear enough on this point in the video. I was more trying to say that the wishlists don't directly affect the steam algorithms. Obviously they end up affecting the algorithm, because the more interest a game has at launch through wishlists will generate visibility and hype, but its not a perfect correlation for sales, which is sort of what I had heard in the past from many other indie devs.
I guess my point was supposed to be more along the lines of the wishlists are not the be all end all. Theoretically if you were able to create your own mailing list and send out the same emails as steam wishlists, this would be equally as effective. Obviously in reality this is much harder, as people are much more likely to wishlist your game than sign up for a random email list.
I found it interesting watching the video directly from steam themselves as I felt it was very transparent to their processes in a way that I'd never heard from any other indie devs before!
