Thank you so much for making this video. I just replaced the bearings and hubs on my escape and accidentally separated the inner boot. While I was pricing out buying a crimper and parts to fix it the cost was just too high to justify doing that in lieu of replacing the axle. I appreciate you showing how you removed and replaced the axle and I feel more confident about performing this job. Thanks again.
Thanks for the tip! I spent an hour prying and pulling with no luck, but after your video I whacked it with a hammer on a piece of rebar and it popped out easy as anything!
I got the axle in now its popping and we think I need the barron that goes to the transmission and u have to get that at a dealership.I can't catch a.break
My moms escape is needing a new CV. They are reasonable price wise.. and I have an impact, 26 gallon compressor... This is not that bad.... TY for the year specifications! I am off to do this Saturday.... THX Man!
My mid axel came out with the CV . Will this cause an issue or just clean and put back ? Or separate first and put back ? Lost like a quart of tranny fluid
Hey Klowny ... really enjoy and use your videos.. Having a problem here though. I can't get the lower ball joint to separate from the control arm. Got the stud to move down about an inch, but then no go. Put it back together for another day. Any tricks? Thought about seeing if I could fit a bottle jack between the lower arm and whatever I can hit above with the jack., and then jack control arm down. I made sure my control arm has not bottom out , so I know thats not the prob. thanks! Sam
in the middle of doing this same job on an 06 escape, however the shafts are completely different than in your video, they have a male spline on both ends and when i removed it from the transmission i lost all the fluid is this normal or is there a bad seal that let the fluid out?
Its easier to just buy a lower control arm with ball joint installed. Got mine from rockauto and was surprised at how affordable they are and way worth as opposed to trying to replace lower ball joint which is almost impossible and a big pain in the ass.
Yeah, I learned this the hard way. I bought ball joints and control arm bushings, and then found out that a control arm with both installed was cheaper.
front axles are easy as pie, wait until you have to pull everything apart in the rear end of an escape to replace the rear axles or seals. why do you think nobody has a video on here showing you how to do them? lol
Nice job.....but man u really need to use jack stands!! Had a buddy that was under a car, his thoughts were it will just b for a few minutes...seal blew on the jack and car landed on his head, but lucky he put the tire underneath and that's what saved him. People should really practice caution and safety more....
Yeah i know..i had to change out the struts also..check out my channel for that video..also subscribe to me and i will show u how to work on cars..thanks for watching
once you get it you'll never work on a car without one again !! here's where I got mine unbelievable pri ces got mine for 1600.00 delivered !!!! www.completehydraulics.com
When you compare axles, what exactly do you compare, part of the new one was covered with a plastic bag and the other end boot looked completely different and the exposed shaft in the center area looked completely different length. So for your comparison video, there was no comparison. Maybe another video on that would be nice for those who dont know what to actually compare.
Helpful and thanks. But you have the responsibility if you are posting videos like this to discuss the extreme importance of using an additional jack stand for safety should the car jack you use suddenly fail. A novice or evenan experienced mechanic MUST use an additional jack stand under the car for safety. Also to keep a car from accidentally rolling. Always apply jack(s) to a solid metal part of the car like the frame or you could damage the car. Lower car on both floor jack and car jack and make sure they are steady BEFORE going under the car using proper wood like a 2X4 or 2X6 piece of wood to block off (Front and back) all tires touching the ground. Purchase some throw away plastic mechanics gloves when applying grease. Double check rotor did not get grease on it or it will ruin the brake pads. Make sure to have a can of spray brake cleaner to clean off rotor and pads regardless. I am saying all this because it was not clearly demonstrated in the video. Also, always check other videos on the same subject to get a more rounded education on what you are facing. Good luck!!

Dear Friend, could you please tell me if the axle is the same on Mazda Tribute and 2001 Ford Escape?
Thanks for the video. I have a Mazda tribute, are the parts the same and how many splins does the cv joint have?
Any tips on how to slide the half shaft out in the rear?
do you have to remove the whole strut or can you just remove the bottom two bolts?
P.s. you can get axle out just by removing lower ball joint
This video was over 10 years ago..but i think I had to replace the strut on the car as well..don't forget to subscribe 😉
Thanks for watching..the axles were exactly the same..also dont forget to subscribe!
did you remover the lower ball joint?
And it didnt leak after that? The seal and bushing should be replaced as well.

What size is that socket. The center nut
Did you get an answer
He said right in video that it was 32mm
Inch and a quarter fits better then 32mm

He has two jacks under the car. ASTRONOMICALY High chance both will fail at same time.
thats what she said..........classic
I needed to see how you got to the point you started this video! I hate videos that start in the middle
Jack the car up and take the damn tire off tf..
All he did was take the tire and break system off.
Dont need to take strut off or brake caliper off.
Great vid!! Thanks for sharing!! Cheers!!
Thanks for watching!
Not necessary to take out strut !! that was more work than changing the axle !!
Yeah i know..i had to change out the struts also..check out my channel for that video..also subscribe to me and i will show u how to work on cars..thanks for watching

"Opps" is right. Missing all safety. Missing almost every step from the factory manual.
mort neff lol relax buddy..not everything in real life is done by the book
lmaf you dont even need to take out the whole strut to do axle

This is definitely not a how too video. This is more like a few clips of you changing a cvc axel out.

He has no such responsibility. HE SHOWS YOU TWO JACKS right in the video.
I agree. Jack stands are a must, but if you notice later in the video you can see the stand.
Thanks
