40:15 yeah you are KIND OF right, in Japanese, Solid Snake and Solidus share the same VA so it's more confusing than in English.
Such a clutch episode, from the the hiding in the box to the surviving the falls after the attack of the harrier.

And older, which I don't think is ever explained beyond he's supposed to be the closest to Big Boss. in terms of genetics as Liquid alluded to back on the Tanker - probably why he needs that muscle suit too.
It goes without saying, but his voice actor, John Cygan was phenomenal when it came to delivering the gravitas of his lines. I actually heard him prior to this game in KOTOR before playing MGS2 and he was just as amazing. He also played the protagonist in Call of Juarez Gunslinger.
Sadly he passed away in 2017 due to cancer.
The clones of Big Boss all have advanced aging. Solidus' more so due to the fact he was designed as a "perfect" clone but Snake suffers from it too. Liquid alluded to it back at the end of the Tanker chapter.
@@Ravenite456 I know but Solidus aging faster is never elaborated on, though as Welonz and others theorized, it might have been to help sell him as president.

Solidus' introduction is probably my favourite cutscene in the game.
Solidus definitely doesn't sound British though, haha. He has to be American for him to have been US president. Liquid was a Brit though. Or still is. Do arm ghosts have nationalities? Is Ocelot a dual citizen by way of Liquid now? Who knows.
I like how you could *hear* Ocelot's revolver spin before Solidus stopped him.

an idea kojima had, was, rose would be tailored for you, you wouldent see her through the game, only at the end, after you had interaction and had your own replies to her stuff, they would generate a rose based on your answers.
it was scrapped since having an unknowen person is not something that would help you get attached to, but you still have alot of those personal conversations.

Yeah welcome to, like, layer 3 of the plot of MGS2. How many layers are there? Well we'll see lmao. I adore this game, even if it took me like 3 playthroughs to fully get the plot.
Once you know what's going on fully it's not so bad. But first time is bad.
Iirc the japanese VA for Solidus is the same for Solid, so when you overhear him with ocelot you hear Solid speaking making the claim that Solid is the terrorist leader more "belivable". -Ocelot's voice also doesnt change when Liquid takes control.- Wrong about that last line, my mistake😅
Ocelot's voice does change in Japanese as well.

Also apparently the japanese voice cast is stacked. Banjou Ginga as Liquid is perfect casting. Kaneto Shiozawa,
Daisuke Gori, Akio and Chikao Otsuka.
Wish the games came with dual audio options.
@@g2.a6Depressing fact: since MGS2 uses clips of MGS1 lines when uttered by the Ninja in the Japanese version, this game is the last piece of media featuring Kaneto Shiozawa, who sadly passed away a year before it even released.
@@g2.a6 Akio and Chikao-san were such good picks for MGS4... RIP the father, he passed away in 2015 at the age of 85.
And yes, I wish there was dual audio in the English release. Also, what do you think about Kiefer Sutherland for the ENG cast? Should have Kojima chosen him for the earlier, relevant games for the role(s) he plays?
@@subarusama5673 i really liked him in MGSV, wish he had more cutscenes. Hayter made the role his own tho. Imo Keifer should be brought back if they remake the OG MG games. With him voicing Venom/BB and Hayter voicing Solid.
Solidus losing his eye in this fight is a reference to Big Boss from Metal Gear 1 and 2, who was also missing an eye.

-You can do all kinds of stuff with the hostages, like scare them (one will even pee themselves) and upskirt an office lady to get an upset codec call from Rose.
-The more hostages you ask about Ames, the more annoyed Raiden will sound.
-All these mic scenes have parallel conversations you can catch sweeping the area.

This is the kind of game you can play 10 times and still discover new things on your next playthrough. It's pretty crazy. I think you missed all the easter egg codec calls so far. Call in weird situations.

@@Welonz Its understandable you'd be thrown off. Solidus has a very particular manner of speaking, which makes sense since he's from an era where we still expected our world leaders to be eloquent, composed and commanding.
Those days seem so far away now.
@@Avenger85438 that eloquent and composed manner you mention is reserved for "evil" characters in modern fiction. It's a real shame as often the opposite is true.
