Oooh the light dragon bit... That gave me chills... "It wants to be Zeldas lullaby but it can't remember the rest... It's stuck" just like Zelda being stuck as the light dragon 🤯
Honestly, the references are so minor that I was like "its just part of the kind of music landscape that they building for the game" but the more I understand the nuance it would take the more I find this video just fucking being amazing catching the small stuff.
TOTK gave away its plot twist in its trailer and we never noticed. It ended with a shot of the castle, and the 3 notes of Zelda's Lullaby played on the Erhu, the instrument associated with the dragons in BOTW. Zelda as a dragon.
Amazing video , the part abt the theme “trying to remember “ Zelda’s lullaby is heartbreaking. Im so glad you noticed the trailer tease!! I was shocked when I first heard it! They were telling us the whole time!
As a pianist for 8+ years, i played the hyrule castle theme for my piano recital a while back, and while learning it, i realized the "zeldas luluby" morphed into the main theme
4:00 here you can also hear a higher pitched organ (I think) rapidly "beeping". In every Zelda game, when Link is at low HP, a "beeping" sounds, so this "beeing" being played along Zelda's theme references that she is losing the battle against ganon, she needs Link to save her already because she is about to die, or, in other words, she's at low HP.
I had never thought of that sound that way- and it makes me extra sad for her- but also she was absolutely amazing in this game. To hold on long enough for Link to recover and get through all the obsticals. I love these games so much.
TOTK Spoilers: At 17:26 for the Light Dragon's theme, it repeats the first two notes over and over, almost like Zelda struggling to remember who she is... but eventually the theme resolves an octave higher. Almost like the theme is implying that it will only be able to fully resolve when Link finds her in the future, which, it inevitably does at 14:52. Super cool. Also crazy that having played Skyward Sword for years, I never once noticed the references in Skyloft or the Love Theme. Those blew me away.
That’s a good point, I hadn’t thought of it almost like a timeline, B D repeating for a thousand years (or however long) and then resolving finally. And yeah those were the ones I was so shocked by! I caught those myself about 2-3 months ago and was freaking out. I was already planning the script and found those just before I did the video.
Isn’t that crazy?? I’m impressed I found some of these, they are very well hidden. Bravo to the Zelda team for giving us so many cool things to discover.
The most insane ref is and will always be Skyward Sword's reverse Zelda's lullaby. I love it so much! It might be well known by now. But that doesn't change my opinion
I love this! I think the Light Dragon Theme is literally the most moving of these! To sacrifice everything you have known, will know, and everything you could know to save your kingdom and its people! Utter chills! Hearing that theme, paired with the fact she is circling Hyrule, just waiting for the time to come. How it's played even, evokes such emotion, she may not remember who she is, but we do. What a beautiful concept. I mean just think, she loses herself and flies the same path, one she may not even remember the reason as to why she is. She just does cause it is what she has always done since the begining of her new memory. Hoping maybe one day flying it will remind her of why. Her theme integrated into other themes should truly show how vital she is. I cant wait to play Echos of Wisdom! Great video Kevin!
At first I thought 2 was just a coincidence, just a side effect of music meant to sound Zelda-y occassionally sharing notes with other Zelda music, but that section being used for Zelda and with Zelda's lullaby made it so clear and so much cooler when I saw that. TotK spoilers: Also the light dragon theme easter eggs at 1 are AMAZING. Zelda's lullaby not finishing to show Zelda losing herself, then later having a faint Zelda's lullaby showing that there's still hope for her in there is so cool. And Zelda's lullaby being at the end of the trailer in the instrument used for the dragons' theme is crazy. They were revealing a major plot point of the game months before it realeased and no one figured it out!
I know I have REALLY enjoyed hearing all this. I’m pretty convinced of the TOTK Main theme one, and the other themes are what solidified it for me. I almost forgot to record that part 😅
Whoa, I just realized that original intro to zeldas lullaby in number 10 was used to make Ravali’s theme in BotW. There’s no way that wasn’t intentional!
The music in TotK I just insane. There’s another obvious reference in phase 1 of the prologue music! The number of references is what makes TotK such an amazing game.
Yet another great video, I loved the “trying to remember” part, I’m so glad I caught this early, I love the work you have put out on this platform, keep putting out the great content man, I look forward to the next upload!
It's things like this that makes me so excited to play new Zelda games so that I can try to find these motifs myself. The final Easter egg with the light dragon REALLY got to me. It's like every time I tell myself that totk was only an okay game etc etc I remember my experiences and the music and I get emotional over what all was put into it.
Just discovered your channel not to long ago. I love your channel I haven't seen a lot of channels dedicated to making videos about the brilliance of zelda music! Your videos always make me want to go back and play the games over again 😂
Some of them I think are stretches because the notes are very common for bridges but number 10 blew my mind holy crap how has no one talked about this one yet
So I had caught all but one reference, and that was the opening of ALttP Zelda's lullaby in OoT. Though I will admit that I was hesitant on the Shadow Temple theme having Zelda's lullaby, maybe because that Temple gave me the creeps as a child, but all the others I caught as I listen to Zelda music regularly while trying to sleep. Also, semi related to Zelda's lullaby, but more behind why Nintendo kept quiet on the title and logo for TotK for so long and why they said it would make the story too obvious if they revealed it too soon....Though obvious now, the logo was two dragons and the instrument used for Zelda's lullaby at the end of the trailer for the original 2022 release is associated with dragons in Japanese lore and myth, revealing Zelda's fate in-game. Hence why they waited until September 2022 for the reveal. Just a neat little piece of information, to which no one originally believed me prior to the game's release.
Wow that’s awesome. It sounds like I need you in the future to send me cool things you notice in the game’s soundtrack. Especially stuff like this that isn’t necessarily common knowledge.
@ZeldaMusicTheory I'm not that great with music theory, just a musician who has been heavily interested in lore/myth of any kind and who happens to have a love of dragons from a young age.
I love how it's at the start of the final boss theme of TotK as well - a slowed down, epic sounding version of Zelda's Lullaby as you ride the draconified Zelda to fight Ganon
Yes 100%. I noted that for an eventual video, in perfect fifths, brass, etc. There is an identical moment with same fifths and same instruments playing a Ganon theme motif, so I took that as Ganon emerged, and this is Zelda emerging to face him, both in their final form of the game. Very cool detail.
Dude that is insane…. The voices singing the B section on Zelda’s theme, that is a crazy reference. I feel like the people who make this music have to be so passionate with music and the franchise because the music is so intricately woven Thx Kev for the vid 🙏
At my school, band is fun for me, I enjoy pulling up to the concerts and playing my clarinet. But I kinda struggle with some aspects, and this channel is very helpful in making me understand. My extremely strong passion for The Legend of Zelda, and my favorite class in school mixed into one TH-cam channel is awesome for me! Thank you for making these videos! 😃
Dude, that’s awesome! I see your comments a lot and remembered your name, so it’s cool to know you are in band. What instrument do you play? My first real instrument was French horn for one year, then a little bit of clarinet and tenor sax, followed by alto sax for the rest of my life. I picked up guitar on the side and always wanted to be good at piano, but never really was. Now that’s the only instrument I play lol.
Awesome video. Honestly, a lot of the references are harder to hear when you're playing them along with the theme. MAybe if you play the teme first, then rewind and play along for those theat may not have caught it the first time through.
That’s a good point. I played through the game once but have listened to the whole soundtrack probably 10 times. It’s a lot easier to hear in isolation in your car 😂
2:40 if you listen, a surprising amount of songs have the main theme hidden inside, like when you launch from a skyview tower for the first time, or in lookout landing
Yeah it’s all over the place. I have a document with every main theme reference I’ve ever found. Both BOTH and TOTK. Maybe videos on those someday, like an Evolution of…
Zelda’s Lullaby (especially from Ocarina of Time) is among my favorite pieces of music. Adding hints of it across the games demonstrates how her influence affects Hyrule even when she is absent.
Zelda being the Light Dragon is just one of the most emotional moments in a Zelda game. The Light Dragon is just so...alien looking. Its eyes are constantly wide open and looking in two different directions. It's covered in fur. It can't speak, it can only roar. It cuts deep when you realize Zelda really did throw herself away to save Link.
It's deeper with "Romance in the Air". It's not just hidden melody notes. The entire structure of that piece allows you to play the entire melody of Zelda's Lullaby over it, if you play it with a bit of a shuffle. Similar to Aryll's Theme from Wind Waker, which is designed to mirror Zelda's Lullaby because Aryll is mistaken for Zelda in the game.
@@ZeldaMusicTheory I put a reply with a link to a video I made demonstrating it, but TH-cam doesn't like links. It might be in your "Held for review" section. I also have an older video you can search for on my channel where I took the Wind Waker end credit scene and added some other melodies to it. Some worked better than others. But I did put Zelda's Lullaby over the section with Aryll's Theme. Edit: Tried again putting a space in the URL. Looks like it still didn't work. TH-cam really hates links in comments. Edit 2: Now none of my replies show up. TH-cam thinks I'm a spammer. Just search for the Wind Waker video on my channel and I'll put the other links in the comments on that.
@@ZeldaMusicTheory I love the Skyward Sword music. When I'm in Skyloft, I'll sometimes go to this one bench near a pumpkin field, there's not really any people there, and I'll just sit there and listen to the music. I got Link's Awakening yesterday. I'm probably going to be listening for Zelda's Lullaby.
Great video! Some interesting ones that I didn’t see you mention are the light dragon from totk (though maybe that one has been talked about before bc it’s a pretty obvious one), and mabe village from links awakening. If you listen closely to mabe village you can hear some parts that sounds very similar to parts of Zelda’s lullaby. I’m not sure if it’s just a coincidence or if it was intentional!
(totk spoilers) What about once you beat the demon dragon, and you're diving for Zelda? It literally plays the whole Zelda's Lullaby, it's one of my favourite references! Also in the demon dragon theme plays it too!
Yeah for sure! I think both are on my longer list but just weren’t as hidden. But both are amazing moments! Sneak peak I just filmed a TOTK Ending Music Reaction and both themes were covered. So you’ll hear my thoughts soon 😁
9:00 this sequence is also inside Robbie's place in Hateno, and also during some parts of the late night, early morning outside music? I might be wrong
Folks out here in the comments claiming they already knew about all of these references... Give me a break! I didn't notice many of them even in pieces which I have arranged and/or performed multiple times.
Hahaha what’s up Sauraen 😂 Yeah my thing is I can find them anywhere on the internet, and I’m like the biggest Zelda music nerd of all time, and not even I knew about these until I found each one. And even if they were all known to some, definitely deserves a video from someone. My channel is probably a good place for that kind of video.
I swear I had noticed 5 before, but it might have actually been from your trailer analysis video. Some of these are potentially coincidental, but it's still nice to see these subtle references through the series!
That’s one of the few I cannot take credit for noticing myself. It was pointed out in a comment on my channel once and I was skeptical. Then I started hearing the royal family theories and was like “Wait really??”
15:55 Completely unrelated, but I have never heard anyone reference a viola before. It's sad that us viola players don't get a lot of recognition. For anyone that doesn't know, a viola looks like a slightly bigger violin, and is a string lower than one, inbetween a violin and a cello.
That’s funny because I was not sure between viola and cello, and hoping I wouldn’t offend either player 😅. For me it’s like high tenor sax confusing it with alto sax.
I kind of have to go all Andrew Cunningham on this, and consider quote length, tempo adherence, interval adherence, and key, with considerations for new pattern establishments based on games and relevance. Some of them I did know, some I definitely didn't, some I'm not totally convinced, though not the last two
Yeah all fair. There were 3 or 4 I wasn’t sure of, but the more I found the more convinced I have become that the composers were aware. If you wrote the melody for Age of Calamity for example wouldn’t you be aware you had included Zelda’s Lullaby? I know I would notice if I were the composer, and it would become an intentional decision to leave it or change it.
honestly…the one spoiler that i guessed right from seeing the light dragon first isnt much of a spoiler. and honestly there are those i did pick up on but a lot of the songs i didnt
Another refeeence from other media prior to Zelda’s theme becoming more mainstream: the guitar solo in The Crow th-cam.com/video/inUCmh3LY9Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=phAXB2CMSxy81XJz
I’m not going to lie. I’m actually extremely surprised. I did not know about this. Considering Koji Kondo based the drum pattern of the original Overworld theme on Ravel’s Bolero, and perhaps the original Title Theme to Ocarina of Time on Erik Satie’s Gymnopedie no. 1, it is very likely that that’s a legitimate influence of his and maybe even a nod to that piece. Thank you so much for telling me this. 🤯
I'd argue that in order for a quote to be a true Zelda's Lullaby reference, it either has to repeat the three note pattern twice in a row, or play it once completely isolated from any other melodic activity AND match the rhythm (half-quarter-half, or similar). For that reason, examples similar to the quote in the Skyloft theme read as unintentional to me (it plays once in the middle of an original melody and is not rhythmically accurate).
Yeah I think there are things that strengthen or weaken each example. For example repeating twice is pretty strong evidence. Being in the original key could add some strength. Certainly like with example 2 having two other pieces that play with the idea of both themes over one another would add strength to the argument “For” intentional. At the end of the day I have varying degrees of certainty with each, and I’m sure several I included were coincidental. But it’s hard to confirm one way or another and it’s fun to speculate. Thanks for watching!
Sry for leaving the topic, but i can't be the only one being triggered by his shirt...isnt the last not qrong on it? Shouldnt't it be down instead of right? 🙈
Dude - you've gone off the deep end. Come back to reality. Some of these are obvious, but some of them are you forcing it. Every time you hear a third scale degree or a descending fourth, it's not Zelda's Lullaby. You need at least the 3 notes (like in the Great Sky Island) to claim it.
Always open to differing opinions. Which ones did you feel were coincidental? I did mention a few that I think may not be references, but for the most part I believe these are intentional.
That was very interesting. I didn’t finish it, but it’s fascinating. I’m not sure if it is intentional or just reading too much into KJV. Definitely could have been intentional, but what I find compelling is not 7th word from the beginning and end being Jesus, but things like prophesies fulfilled hundreds of years later, the facts surrounding Jesus life, death, and resurrection, the eye witness testimonies and miracles… there is quite a bit of evidence for the Bible and Jesus. So the patterns are cool, but speculative. Still fun to read, and I appreciate the suggestion 😁👍🏼
@@ZeldaMusicTheory The probability value of some of these patterns is astronomical. He also has a video showing the example of how one only clicked into place with the passage of time by the changing of language. Ironically, one's the 1611th mention of LORD, which is the same year the KJV was compiled. Truth Is Christ - the 1611th Mention of LORD (And Why It's a Really Big Deal)
@@ZeldaMusicTheory Here's another interesting one that's more about textual criticism than the patterns: Truth In Genesis - Why use the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible
I already knew every single one of these. Im not even that musically gifted. Also most of these have been documented by others, im not naming names. Wow! Who could have guessed that theyd use the established theme of the character being focused on in the cutscenes??
If you knew every single one, that’s extremely impressive, but more importantly I need you in my Discord to send me stuff like this. This took my like 18 months of obsessive listening and I find several the last 3 months. I don’t believe it’s common knowledge 😅

Oh my gosh Mabe Village is definitely intentional and I didn’t catch it. WOW! Great catch and thank you!
Also Light Dragon was number 1 😄
(totk spoilers)
What about once you beat the demon dragon, and you're diving for Zelda? It literally plays the whole Zelda's Lullaby, it's one of my favourite references!
Also in the demon dragon theme plays it too!
Yeah for sure! I think both are on my longer list but just weren’t as hidden. But both are amazing moments! Sneak peak I just filmed a TOTK Ending Music Reaction and both themes were covered. So you’ll hear my thoughts soon 😁
@@ZeldaMusicTheory ok thanks
also HI!!
9:00 this sequence is also inside Robbie's place in Hateno, and also during some parts of the late night, early morning outside music? I might be wrong
A movie about seeing patterns that was better than i expected is, 23. With Jim Carrey, but not really a comedy. I liked it back in its day.
I liked that movie. I haven’t seen it since it came out but always liked Jim Carey.
7:03 Zelda's lullaby is also in the main theme of Princess Mononoke by Joe Hisaishi
9:53 that reminds me A LOT of the Philosopher's Stone/mystery motif from the first Harry Potter (i think it's in the second movie too).
I swear I had noticed 5 before, but it might have actually been from your trailer analysis video. Some of these are potentially coincidental, but it's still nice to see these subtle references through the series!
The echoes of wisdom one is pretty common knowledge. I noticed it right as I watched the trailer
The Goat is back!!!
😂
Zelda music is absolutely beautiful. 🥹
100%, I appreciate the comments!
You missed that Ballad of the Goddess is Zelda's Lullaby backwards. Try it, it's crazy.
Wait, it's all references? *Points gun* "Always has been..."
Cool
BEST CHANNEL EVER, AND WE KNOW THIS
SO THANKS IN ADVANCE
😅
If you're ever wondering if Zelda is nearby or has been in an area somewhere just listen to the music.
Who would’ve guessed that a lot of music in there legend of Zelda… contains Zelda’s theme?! 😳
LETS GOOOOO
Hahahaha All Aboard!
Dude, I literally sing the Shadow Temple theme all the time, and I missed it!
7:08 nah you’re good I do the same. Thing. 🙃
Bro is like: wooow 😮
People, did anyone notice Zelda's Lullaby is the first three notes of "Lullaby" from Schubert?
You're like wooow. And I'm like what did I miss?
😂
Yo. Where dud you get that shirt??
Etsy I think
Most of these are just the first three notes transposed in a different key.
That’s exactly what they are. 😄
@@ZeldaMusicTheory You should have just claimed that Mulan was referencing the song from Link to the Past.
zeldas lullaby is ballad of the goddess backwards
Echo make sense cause we literally play as Zelda
面白い!❤
Sry for leaving the topic, but i can't be the only one being triggered by his shirt...isnt the last not qrong on it? Shouldnt't it be down instead of right? 🙈
🤣 I didn’t even notice! ❌ try again
Yeah I know I love Zelda's lullaby is in sheiks theme!!!!!!!!!!!
Where's the wow counter
In spirit tracks Zelda died
I found tons of videos on this subject in seconds, you didn't look hard enough or not at all.
Would love to watch them, send links if you get the chance 🙏🏽 Most of these have not been covered at all.
Noice
Just 4d ago really
Dude - you've gone off the deep end. Come back to reality. Some of these are obvious, but some of them are you forcing it. Every time you hear a third scale degree or a descending fourth, it's not Zelda's Lullaby. You need at least the 3 notes (like in the Great Sky Island) to claim it.
Always open to differing opinions. Which ones did you feel were coincidental? I did mention a few that I think may not be references, but for the most part I believe these are intentional.
As a Christian you may like the patterns in the Bible. Theres a book called Sealed by the King I encourage looking into.
This guy needs to stop saying wow because if he says that it then it makes it sound like clickbait and he says it when it's very not noticeable
skill issue
I already knew every single one of these. Im not even that musically gifted. Also most of these have been documented by others, im not naming names.
Wow! Who could have guessed that theyd use the established theme of the character being focused on in the cutscenes??
If you knew every single one, that’s extremely impressive, but more importantly I need you in my Discord to send me stuff like this. This took my like 18 months of obsessive listening and I find several the last 3 months. I don’t believe it’s common knowledge 😅
He's trolling
