There was so much more humanity, life, and energy in this adaptation of Pride and Prejudice! And I just love this scene, wonderful music, wonderful shy courtship between Jane and Bingley...
That totally makes scenes cause his observations are revealed in the scene he proposes to Lizzy the first time and some of them are here and at the ball.
Yes because he moved from his spot (dragging Bringley 's sister along with him in the middle of the crowd and she is just hating it)just to get closer to the dancers and in the same have a chance to meet and speak again with Lizzie. And it paid off. Good move Mr Darcy👍😁🎼🎻🎶💟
Very true Indeed. Apparently Dancing back in those days was very important in social gatherings. It was probably one of the few opportunities that people get to meet and interact.
Absolutely! That's part of why I love this clip so much. This is how people partied back in the days before TV and radio (and many people still do). :)
I love how everyone is so energetic and full of life in this scene i dont see many people at parties like this anymore its sad i wanna go back to this century
This scene was filmed at the tail end of the filming. By then they all knew each other and didn't have to fake having so much fun together. A brilliant move by Joe Wright, the director. My favorite moment is at 0:36 when Lizzy says "I nearly went the wrong way." It was spontaneous; she really did almost go the wrong way, but it showed a natural ease you'd expect to see between sisters. They wisely kept it in the scene.
Also, I personally find dancing historical dancing more enjoyable as you first of all dance in groups so you can enjoy it more with the people around you. And secondly because there are quite a lot of dances where the music goes faster and faster so you need to keep up with the music and the musicians usually stop when nobody can follow the music anymore :D
Really. No tampons or sanitary pads. Just rags that you would have to wash out and reuse. Outdoor toilets that would have stank, no modern medicine and dying in childbirth. No voting or property rights. And you want to go back to this time period. You wouldn't last a week
@Jonathan Parks Sure it is. Why not? Mr. Beveridge's Maggot, Duke of Kent's Waltz, Joy After Sorrow, Hole in the Wall... In fact, I'd say more often than not ECD has the incorrect reputation of being static and stately and boring, when there are lots of fun, fast, exciting English country dances. Do you dance, Jonathan?
Imagine Mr. Darcy jumping for the dance. 😄 Mr. Darcy with his superb acting skills, handsome face and minute mannerisms scores more than anyone else in this film, but in the book its Eliz. Anyone who reads P&P, after watching the film will have Mr. Matthew in mind as Mr. Darcy. I believe.. A film for all times..
For me Colin Firth will forever be the imagine of Darcy. I love Matthew but he’s a bit like a sad bear. Colin had that proper pride and reserve and just so hott!
Always smiling till i feel tears in my eyes watching this scene , so much good vibes , interactions between people , smiles , modesty , very beautiful ❤️
""I remember, when we first knew her in Hertfordshire, how amazed we all were to find that she was a reputed beauty; and I particularly recollect your saying one night, after they had been dining at Netherfield, 'She a beauty!-I should as soon call her mother a wit.' But afterwards she seemed to improve on you, and I believe you thought her rather pretty at one time." "Yes," replied Darcy, who could contain himself no longer, "but that was only when I first saw her, for it is many months since I have considered her as one of the handsomest women of my acquaintance.""
I'm so glad you posted this. It's the most delightful and energetic dance in the film, IMO. I believe the tune is called "Dutch Dollars" but I couldn't find it anywhere.
@@leebridges1674 I was just doing some more research and Dutch Dollars is the tune played during the Netherfield ball, when Caroline and Darcy dance and she feels like she's going to be forced to chase a piglet. :) It's on the soundtrack as "Can't Slow Down."
I think you are wrong. He's drawn to Elizabeth because of her zest for living. He wants to be part of it. He's not static he too, in his fashion is moving with the music and to her.
Do you mean a recording of this specific version from PnP, or just a recorded version of the tune? The tune is for the dance Young Widow (and the dance they're doing here looks similar), so there are recordings of Young Widow out there. For example, Bare Necessities plays it (on the album CDS Boston English Dance Collection Vol. 6: At the Ball) and they're wonderful. I also see a recording called The Pride and Prejudice Collection, Vol III by The Pemberley Players, but I'm not familiar with it myself. If you get it or hear it, let me know what you think. :)
Oh, no, I don't know about that. You're right, it's not on the soundtrack. Don't know why, but that's a shame. You could always yank it from TH-cam with software or a website (not that I condone such behavior). ;)
For many of us, it still is! Well, it was before the pandemic shut everything down... so now we meet and dance and socialize over zoom. It's not quite the same thing, but we're keeping the community together. Where do you live? I bet there's some dancing where you are... :)

It's one of the reasons I prefer this to the BBC mini series... it might have been book accurate, but this was much more lively and romantic
I just realized that the way this scene is filmed - it’s Darcys Point of View! And he keeps fixating on Lizzy 😍😍😍
