Ryobi kinda killing it lately with price-to-performance ratio on their tools in my opinion.
TTC and ProjectFarm are my go-to's for checking out how well a power tool does. Great work!
I’ve had my 1/2 inch for about 3 years. Not a problem. Not a problem taking bolts off either or lug nuts

I recently bought the Ryobi for 99$ I work in a tire shop and so far it’s been great ofc not as much power as my air impact. But it has held up had no problem busting lug nuts battery lasts all day. Not the best cordless impact but definitely worth the price
Yup, it exactly falls into that characterization I feel. Not mentioned in the video, the Ryobi seemed to last longer on a 4ah battery, the Ridgid was constantly dropping a bar after runs.
Looks like a very nice convenience tool for a situation like that. Can't beat that price.

Nice to see the underdog Ryobi outshine one of the brother models and have a respectable entry level gun. I hated the previous P261 model because that POS could barely do lugnuts and other automotive tasks. This will make an excellent gift for DIYers and newbies. Great testing as always TTC.
I agree on the value of Ryobi and the P261 being a bit short of being very useful and recommendable for anything. I think 2022 is the 1st year a cordless $99 kit impact is a good buy all around.
Well I bought it for working in my suspension from 98' and haven't let me down, sure it takes more time, but faster than setting my Compressor up, hooking everything, waiting for air up, uncoiling the hose.. At the end It does all of work on the highest setting LoL but gets the job done, for me anyway, maybe I just being lucky. It even took off my front axle nuts!
@@dcgo44r I find when doing light vehicle suspension work that a big impact doesn't fit very well, I generally use a right-angle or the Milwaukee M12 compact, I guess it depends on what it is.
On the other hand when you start putting universals or adaptors on you lose enough torque that I doubt your avg. DIY shtstick would get the job done.

P261 with a 1.5ah battery took my 130lbs lug nuts off with no problem, honestly surprised me, only 2 or 3 clicks on the anvil and she ripped them lugs outta there!
For your average Joe that might rotate tires once a year and do a brake job every now and then these impacts are perfect. They will probably last years and shure as heck are better than hand tools. Would make a great gift too.
I worked as a Diesel Tech for 17 years, still keep up with all of the tools as we didnt have cordless stuff at the time, I have a Milwaukee 3/8 and 1/2, the Avid Power 3/8 and 1/2 and the ridged 1/2 I have used all of them around the house and they all decent for what the average DIY would need, If you need more then that you really need to go to pnuematic tools. I have never been a big Ryobi fan maybe its the color, I would think any of them would be great, not often that you need 500ftlbs especially on a car or truck.
New video idea for modifying tools with brushless motors:
Do a SHUNT MOD.
You find the current shunt on the driver board and lower its resistance by adding a thin wire in parallel or coating it with a layer of solder.
In theory you can trick the motor controller to supply more current, than it should.
This is commonly done to ebike controllers to increase power.
I have been using a pair of P260's for 9 years now (technically, one for almost 11 years). This includes standard home/shadetree mechanic stuff plus a lot more. I run a 24 hours of Lemons racing team so three races a year, lots of repairs at track, lots of wheels removed/installed for nightly nut-and-bolt checks plus we built two of the cars with them. Then there are the parts cars we buy to support the habit (spares), part out and finally crush. Finally, I have used them in the Pick-n-Pull for the race cars and my string of hooptie daily drivers.
They are not great at all but they are plenty good enough for all but Buick 3800 harmonic balancer bolts (they laugh at Hondas and their weighted sockets) and the lug nuts on my F250. One has developed andissue where it randomly stops every 5 seconds in cold weather until it warmsup from work. Yep...I bought their battery infrastructure when it was still blue and NiCad for a batttery drill and they had their hooks in me ever since.
I can attest that the 3800 Series II and III engines were put together by Sasquatch.
@@joshuaking34 It is the full 3.25" of thread engagement..."initial" torque is only 83 ft lb but give it 90K miles and 10 years of heat cycles...the only solution it is long extension supported on a jack stand with a breaker bar and 4' cheater.

I bought some of the Ryobi 18v cordless inflator kits as Christmas presents for my sisters. $59 for the inflator, a 1.5ah battery and a charger. Having a portable inflator in your car is invaluable, just like jumper cables and/or a jump box. With my 10% military discount they were $54 each, and you cant beat that price for a good portable inflator even with the no name chinese brands on Amazon, they're all around $50. And it being a Ryobi gives them a good tool platform for if they ever need to get tools in the future.
I'd love to see how these BF deals stack up against the Milwaukee standard brushed 1/2" impact. HD puts it on sale regularly for $199 with impact + 3/8" ratchet
I upgraded my Ryobi P261 to the P262 which was a free tool when I bought the Ryobi 18V half inch hammer drill kit. The P262 out performs my P261 when breaking loose the lug nuts on my Ram pickup truck. I have other Ryobi cordless/corded tools with no complaints. I value all of your test. P.S. I heard that the Porter Cable & Craftsman from S.B&D are non identical twins also. Keep’m coming

I've been itching to get a battery powered impact wrench for a while. I've been hoping Milwaukee would drop to somewhere this cheap since I've been pleased with some of their M12 tools. I have the ryobi impact...was $100 for tool only years ago. Lawn mower blade bolts, engine and suspension work, wheels...I've used it a lot. In years, I've only had a few times the ryobi couldn't get the job done. I finally ran into a 8" blade/spindle bolt on a zero turn that the ryobi couldn't touch...nor could heat, pb blast and a 3' breaker bar. I ended up buying the ryobi 1200ftlb brushless impact tool for $200...it zipped the bolt out. I still use the older one for most stuff, it is physically smaller and the bigger one actually has enough grunt to break stuff.
I watched this episode and it inspired me. I had just purchased a Avid torque wrench off the jungle site but it wouldn't screw a lag bolts into some old pine 2x6 much less loosen my truck lugs. Note I torque my wheels at 150 ft. Pounds. After watching this video I sent the impact back to the jungle and went to the depot. Out of 3 depot stores there was only one impact in stock at the 3 stores near me and got myself the last one. Not only sank a lug bolt but that little Ryobi took my truck lugs off like they were nothing and put them back on at same torque that was checked with a torque wrench at 150 ft. Lbs. and could have gone higher. The Ryobi 265 is awesome at only $99.00 A note, most good torque don't come with batteries and definitely not 4.0 Ah. Or chargers. I think this video was the reason the depot was out of them. Thanks so much for the video.
I'm not Red Army, I got them because I need good tools, and won't have two batteries. An older guy I do have Rigid. We ran 3" deck screws into a lifting rig to pull a water tank using his rigid. We hoisted the water tank and had to get my Milwaukee to take them out after they had stretched and bent. Not everyday, anything will get you by, but this is why your actual numbers count. Thank you.

I got the Ryobi one+ HP hammer drill with 2 2ah HP batteries and a P262 for $160. Seemed like a good deal to me, I know the impact isn't the most powerful but being I didn't have a hammer drill or a mid torque, I couldn't pass it up.
Really impressive how much more power the new Ryobi puts out vs the P261 well staying the same price. That alone is worth celebrating. Beating it's more expensive brother is icing on the cake.
You guys should test an old P260 just for fun and to see how far we've come.

So glad you did a review on both of these. I'm actually considering buying the Ryobi PCL265. I currently have the Ryobi P262, I've had it for a while and honestly the torque is beyond what I need for home shade tree, weekend warrior, diy'er work. I also think the torque is not very well balanced, something I've noticed with almost all ryobi tools: impact wrench, reciprocating saw, etc. The torque is everywhere, bad tool balance and vibration, poor trigger control.
I have the old kit and just got their brushless mid torque on special (free with hammer drill). The old one could barely pull some lug nuts off of a ford focus a few months back, looking forward to using the brushless power.
I have the 2020 model of ryobi mid torque impact with 3 4ah hp one+ batteries and I love it
For $99 it’s a good one to keep in the car for possible flat tire changer

Slightly related, I had a Black Friday TV for YEARS, the thing was solid. Right up until my toddler threw a drumstick at it and killed the panel, haha.
After obliterating a 5mm (I know I know, it's a 12.9 though) bolt on an ATV flywheel- I remembered even my 262 hasn't yet met a challenge with success or destruction... Of the fastener. Quite pleased with it. I use my M18 stubby for most things, need a good quarter driver, wish the M18 had better battery options but the form factor is so good
I think Ryobi tools are the most cost effective of all brands

Can you do a video on the beat impact to remove wheel lug nuts. I’m looking to keep on in my vehicle. I bought a 3/8 dewalt impact but it can’t loosen a wing nut to safe it’s life. I always like to route for the underdog so have always had a soft spot for ryobi...but here in Ireland we don't get bf or holiday deals on Ryobi for some reason and in the big box stores that sell ryobi it's priced roughly the same as the likes of DeWalt or Makita....and DeWalt particularly here have decent deals from time to time .... Milwaukee is priced crazy money here...and range is only just starting to expand beyond main drills and impacts.
They looked so tempting, but Dewalt was calling my name!

Got the DeWALT Atomic drill and impact driver set myself from Home Depot’s BF sale. DCD708 and DCF809. Advertised with 2x 1.3Ah for Black Friday but came with 2x 1.5Ah like the usual non-BF bundle. Very recent MFG date (August) but I hear they specifically switch to 1.3Ah for promotional deals like this. The difference in is really Japanese (Panasonic) vs LG/Samsung 18650 cells. Hoping to use the impact driver for masonry bits (drill chuck adapter) and lug nuts (impact socket adapter).
Well, I did three of four wheels just fine until the last one. I broke my roadside emergency impact wrench (seized) and snapped the impact socket adapter with my DCF809. Not a single lug nut would come off even with a few hundred pounds jumping up and down on my breaker bar. Ultimately I had to use my butane micro torch and squelch with WD-40, THEN jump up and down on the breaker bar. Even then, three of the five lug nuts were too damaged to thread onto a hood stud by hand, and the threads sheared right off one of the studs forming a perfect coil/spring/slinky of thread. The hub was visibly less rusty (plenty of shiny metal) and there was body damage around there from the previous owner with junkyard paint numbers on the rim, so it’s clear that was a newly replaced hub that some jerk installed with truly ridiculous torque. The whole experience was so painful I’m now in the market for a high torque, hence, revisiting these videos a month later. :)
I am on the Ridgid 18v platform, and am still filling out my battery collection. I noticed that the max output batteries are a lot more expensive than the standard lithium batteries, but still use 18650 cells. I would love to see a testing video showing ridgid (or other brands as well) cheap vs higher level batteries. Thanks :)
Project Farm seemed to conclude the max output variations aren't insanely better. I however got the 8ah max output EXP doing the HD hack for $80 which supposedly has 21700 cells
Seems like the real deal was the Ryobi high torque brushless with the HP battery for $159. That was by far the best beans per dollar buy of the season.

You inspired me to mess around and with a regular 1.5 ah this Ryobi was putting out I’d say half as much torque. I know that’s kinda standard but I was surprised by the drop off nonetheless. I see why it comes with the 4 ah.
I've seen tests of Ryobi tools on your channel as well as Project farm they always seem like one of the best value to performance tools, I personally don't own any I'm a Makita guy, but I'm considering adding their line for tools I don't use a lot and buying the Makita version would be to expensive

Hey TTC. Been following your content for a while now and I don't think anyone is as thorough in testing as you. I am in the market for starting my tool set and am going to buy an impact wrench first up. I deal with frequently rusted on bolts on some mine vehicles. I feel like I will end up buying the Milwaukee Automotive work bench and tool set (218pc work bench set) which comes with some power tools but will need something with some more beans. Should I go with a Milwaukee high torque or do I go with a specialist tool like the IR W7152? Happy to have an exception in terms of battery ability if the tool is gonna do what I need it to do. I won't have access to an air setup yet but that could come later.
I just recently where Ryobi's warranty stipulates that at least some of their tools aren't intended for contractor usage. Though, I commonly have used/abused them in the past; like burning through a job, without mercy until the job was done or the job was done or my batteries were all depleted. I've seen videos where products failed straight outta the box, sometimes smoking or fireworks imitations. I've never had any issues with my Ryobi stuff. I may have had 1 or 2 very brief thermal cutouts, but I couldn't say for sure. Hell, I was ready for a break long before I reached that point. I've been around power tools all my life and learned to use and not use them from professionals or at least journeyman. I usually can tell when a tool is at it's yield point, and I can run them as hard as they're able to go. I still feel the need to step up to 'Contrator-Level', likely the DeWalt line due their new battery technology, and overall package size, when I next add to my arsenal.

I just bought a set of Sunex crows feet from amazon off of their black Friday sale, and realized there aren't any good comparisons on youtube for different brands of crows feet. would be cool to see a comparison from either you guys or project farm on what crows feet are a better bang for buck.

Bought the DCF899 kit on BF for $175 after rebate. Makes me think they might be trying to get rid of the remaining stock since the DCF900 is now available.
The Ridgid mid torque was on sale for $169 with a 4ah MO battery and a charger. That $70 is definitely worth waiting for a sale tbh. It's also worth noting that the Ridgid High torque is also on sale for $269 with a free tool(but you get $110 back if you return the free tool).
Ends up being $165 if you return the free tool still a bit more than the ryobi nevertheless both are a good pickup

These days all you are getting with Ridgid is an older gen Milwaukee with the Lifetime Service Agreement. Good luck with that LSA though, they have had my Jobmax for repair for three months now, which is a new record however usually they take about 2 months to fix a broken tool. With Kobalt you can take a broken tool right back to Lowe's and swap that bad boy out. It's a 5 year warranty on the tool and a three year warranty on the battery. Just like Milwaukee except you don't even have to mail anything. That seems like a better deal

That no battery difference is a big deal imo. Does that mean moving forward the big dog batteries are pretty much useless? Curious to see if the basic battery performs as well as the max output with other tools.
I realize impact drivers aren't as fun as impact wrenches, but apparently the 4 mode Ryobi full size HP impact driver is significantly more powerful than the p238 it replaced, even though they both claim the same torque rating. Given that Ryobi has been pretty honest with its torque ratings on impact wrenches as of late, it'd be interesting to see if that holds up with impact drivers as well.
Edit: Mancaver Tools did a comparison a little while back, but he doesn't have the setup you guys do
The older P238 is way better than the newer hp. Both tools are brushless but mag tray better is the cheaper plastic mold used for HP rebrand.
Not sure how it'd test on here, with its 2200in/lb rating (about 180ft/lb), but I'll say the 4-mode can remove lug nuts without struggle with a 1/2 adapter, and it easily overshot 100ft/lb putting them back on. I got one in the hammer drill kit. Glad I did, I ended up needing to mount a post support in concrete. Came with one 2ah and one 4ah battery which also sold me. Both good tools.
The one thing I hate about the p238 is the collet where you put the bits, it trips most of the time while taking out or putting in the bit and lock on its own having to reset it in order to put the bit back! Ridgid didn't have that problem, nor Milwaukee! Not sure if that was the reason for such a short shelve life!

It appears to be worth it to keep a Ryobi in the car trunk for emergency tire changes. Tires always need to be changed on the cold hand, worst weather, darkest nights, on a hidden curve in the road. Ryobi is faster than a tire iron.

The Ryobi seems like a good one to keep in the truck or trunk of your car for flats.
Literally what I got it for, it’s a BF deal so the system kicks it into clearance after a while. I got it for $50. It’s great, no problem, my dad has a big boi m18 one but mine has worked just fine

can you test the menards masterforce brand impact? i use to use that in my diesel job a lot and it served me well until i got to the point i could afford milwaukee and i can say it was a great purchase.

Can you test cordless lights by DeWalt, Milwaukee, Skil, etc? Are they better than a regular work light like streamlight, snap on, or astro that you previously tested

Could you please compare this PCL265K1 vs the P262 as they have similar specs with different pricing and technology? Also, could you test both with 2Ah batteries? I'm asking this not only for convenience, but also because in other countries like Spain, the PCL265K1 kit includes a 2Ah battery just like the P261 does.
Hey you should do some tests on the new Denali tools on Amazon. They look like Amazon branded SKIL tools, but come out cheaper. Curious if they're the same and simply different branding, or they're different to account for difference in price.
I bought a brushless ridged half inch impact and I work on stuff on the side and my own stuff I have not met a bolt thst the impact can’t take off and the battery’s last long it hasn’t given me any problems yet either definetly worth the $200 I spent

I'd take the $99 ryobi any day. I just wish it was HP or brushless so the batteries are a bit more relevant. If you have this kit, then it makes getting a HP drill/driver a bit difficult since the batteries aren't HP and you know you're leaving power on the table. Or maybe that's their strategy to get you into the HP batteries?
The one thing nice thing about Ryobi tools is, they kept the same battery configuration for over 15 years, and the tools I bought from them in the early 2000's are still plugging away using the latest lithium batteries they offer. Some may think that the "1 contact" connection in the battery is flawed, but, I have not had any issue in any Ryobi cordless tool I have because of it, and I own close to 2 dozen of them.
