Thanks much for the help. Went to get son from school and truck wouldn't start just put a plow on thought I had something wired wrong. This saved me alot of stress and. Trouble shooting. 10 minutes later on my way to pick him up.
Thank you for posting this !! I have a 2006 Hummer h3 that does this all the time now ! I’ve done it all…. I’ve replaced oxygen sensors , fuel pump, fuel injectors , alternator , you name it … battery .. replaced the terminals and it still does this …. Ordered the part and going to replace the sensor myself .
Sorry for cursing but I CAN'T FUCKING BELIEVE THIS WORKED. 10 years I've been deal with this problem off and on with my H3. As of the start of the cold season, I felt like I had 20% chance of my car starting in one shot. I love this car but I was about to set it on fire. I switched it out today and so far it has started up right away, every time. I feel like the old girl is brand new again. I'm actually happy driving it, now knowing I don't have to fear shutting off the engine. THANK YOU!
I remember last year in 2023 it was pretty cold early of the year and I was always late to work cause my hummer was always frozen and It would always lock on me🤣🤣🤣🤣
But nah fr tho everytime I go anywhere I leave it on because I hate when it locks on me and then people look at me like if my car took a shit on me😂😂😂😂
I looked at a lot of information before I tried this but I wanted you to know that your video was the most helpful! The pass lock didn't want to come off of the new part but your video gave insight on how to do it, thank you very much for taking the time to post it! 2004 GMC canyon, theft deterrent light started to come on randomly the past few weeks. It stranded me once two nights ago, ordered D1462G off of Amazon and put it in tonight. I had to relearn like yours (I read somewhere that they have a few with different values sometimes you get lucky) seems fixed for now. I really appreciate it.
Thank you so much for this video !!!! I replaced mine January 28 2024 and haven’t had the issue since … mine was happening almost everyday . I appreciate you thank you
I did the wrong research and thought it would involve a lot more. So much time wasted and frustration. Thank you so much for this!!! Mine didn't start until the 4th time. So it timed out 3 times. Seems to be working perfectly now!
Great video Shorty! Thanks for taking the time to figure this out and post instructions - made it super easy. I'm wondering, however, if anyone else had a problem getting the new sensor recognized by their truck? I bought a new AC Delco cylinder/sensor, swapped just the sensor, and followed the relearn procedure .... multiple times. The passlock light never flashed, never went out. Just no crank, no start and steady, not flashing light, no matter how long I left my key in the on position. I even tried disconnecting the battery leads for 30 minutes before trying the learning procedure, but same result. I thought maybe I had damaged a computer somewhere, so I put the old sensor back it and it started right away, and the passlock light went out. What am I doing wrong? Any help appreciated!
There's a lot of info down below! In an hour or 2 you ought to have read some good ideas. Or go to the Duck and type in "Re-learn the PassLock Sensor". Or maybe some creative idea!
Thanks! Worked great. 2006 Hummer H3 manual transmission (different part number). If you look at the contacts on the used sensor, the second contact from the left is burnt. The circuit burns out. Same on all the failed sensors which are a common problem. Easy fix !!!
Still a problem in 2019! Couldn’t find any fixes anywhere, but instead of replacing the whole sensor I still removed it, used canned air and cleaned the whole sensor assembly with electrical cleaner and tools brush and works great! No need for new part
I realized over the years that most of my problems with my H3 was dirt! Rough idle: Throttle and map sensor dirty. 4x4 problem: unconnect the module and clean the connectors Dash went haywire: check ecm in the firewall (dirty as "bip*). Cleaned the connectors and checked the pins. Lol simple solutions
Thank you for the video! I'm relieved to say that because of you, I'm another success story in this method of 'the fix'. For others out there, my experience took 40 minutes of waiting, and on the first 3 times my engine did not turn over (and I had little of hope of success on the 4th attempt to start, but it did!). Thanks again!
Thanks Shorty! My sons Hummer H3 had the same problem. I ended up doing the programming part 4 times. I think that’s due to I didn’t wait long enough the first time.
Worked for me 2006 gmc canyon started showing pass lock failing this past year. Three step relearn worked first time around with a non acdelco Amazon part 👍
This issue caused my family a bunch of trouble on a trip a few years ago from Ohio to S Carolina. We were clear down in N Carolina and stopped for a break and H3 would not start up. We tried quite a few times to start (obviously not knowing to wait the 10 mins) with no start. Called a mobile mechanic who was close by and he said it was fuel pump. So we had to have it towed to local dealer and go find a car to rent (just barely got one before closing time). So dealer calls me next day and said started right up for them no problems. We went ahead and had the pump replaced for over $1000 because we didn't want to be stranded when we came back through to pick it up at the end of the week. We picked it up and it started and we drove home ok. But then it did the same thing again in a few months. That's when I did so research and found out about the passlock issues. Can't believe the dealer didn't even mention this as a possible problem before gouging me for a fuel pump.
We've been working on figuring out what is the starting problem, since 2017. The problem was part time and the shop can't find a problem when it aint showing up. It did start every time for months, after I changed the water pump! Mine is a 2006 Canyon with the odd-ball 5 banger engine. Since we finally figured out the actual starting problem, others want me to replace the whole switch. And want me to take the whole steering wheel off. Along with buying the whole switch, when it aint needed! I've been unable to find just a sensor on the computer. I did find it at an auto-parts store, for $100. On the radio show, I told them that my truck's security system is so good, that it won't even let the owner steal it. Today is Memorial Day, 29 May 2023.
I just ordered the part as well hopefully it works for mine. However my issue is when you turn the key the engine does not turn over until it reset. I have seen other vids state that the engine turns over but will not start until it resets.
doing ours today. will et you know how it works. thanks for the completeness(sp) of the vid. subing as we speak.as of NOW jobs done, so far all good. only thing we struggled a bit with was removing the sensor from the switch. fumbled around a bit until we saw the little thing a ma jig inside to remove. other than that we followed your advice and it's all good thx again for the help.
Hello, great movie with gret instructions. Parts are ordered, so hopefully in a few days the problem will pass away here. 👍 I have one other question: how can I change from miles to km's? I have searched and tried on multiple ways but I didn'r succeed so far..
I have a 2005 GMC Canyon 103558 miles. mine did the same thing what everyone on you tube is not telling you is you have to be in the vehicle with windows up/ doors shut not locked and this will work, I don't know how long of a fix this is but for me it took 4 tries, but it did work.
Thanks, this worked for my 2007 isuzu i290 (chevy Colorado) i had to do 4 relearns. now my truck can be driven after yrs of sitting in the driveway idle. #ihateGMproducts
hello, I have the same problem, but the blocking symbol remains fixed, I changed the sensor piece and on the recommendation of the electrician a resistance was placed to fool the blocking system and it has not been possible to solve it, try the 3 cycles 10 minutes, but only in the last one I try to start it, I don't know if it will be important in each cycle to try to start it, please your help with something that you can guide me I would appreciate it very much I have stopped my truck for 5 months trying everything
I want to add that I replaced the passlock housing (not the key cylinder) - this did fix the problem - BUT I also needed a new key. It seems my problem was exasperated by a worn key too. The key is NOT chipped - it is just a plan key, so only $10-15 to replace. I had a 2009 GMC Canyon.
For anyone that may not want to fork out the money or can't wait(need to get to work), there's a white w/ blue wire cut that fixes it. Search for it online. Don't just start chopping at the white w/ blue wires. There are caveats but if you need to get it fixed quickly and can't wait/get parts, it's a free option.
Can you make an update if it ever failed again because mine's been doing that for a while and it did it on a date yesterday and I'm about to replace it
Did this on mine, however it would not turn over the 3 times. I did everything the same just Turning the key to engage the starter would not turn the engine over. And on the 3rd try it started up.
You get the sensor FELETED from the ECM via the PCM from anyone that does engine tuning or from a GM dealership, it only takes a few mins, its a permanent fix!
Amigo prácticamente es comprar el sensor y cámbialo después dejas la llave en encendido por diez minutos hasta que el candado se apague y luego la apagas por 10 segundo intenta prender si no arranca y hace lo mismo intenta nuevamente hasta prender
3 years no problem starting again. The truck pass lock ( that’s in the column ran through the ignition ) that there is a problem with security, and cuts off the fuel to start the truck. Which remote start bypasses this. If you try to start the truck and it won’t start simply hold the gas pedal to the floor and it will start. Not sure how or why other guys are having problems. Maybe it’s simply the installer. Mine wouldn’t start almost every single day then I installed remote starter and never ever failed again so...
What has been working for me is turning on the key in the on position before starting for 10 seconds (I.e wait until the the radio comes all the way on so you can here the music, the a/c settles, the engine light and car theft light is on the dash on the dashboard only and then finally you should here like a little poof or air release or whining) then before I crank the truck I push the brake pedal all the way to the floor as hard as I can and then try to start the truck. The truck cranks on with no problem. ( tell me if it works for you)

When you reinstall the new sensor back into the housing ... does the key need to be in the run or off position?

I’d like info on this please
Does this cause your ignition fuse to pop at all?
Will i know if i have this issue if I see it on the dash?
Will the Parking break need to be attached for this procedure to be done?
No it does not. The top screw is really tricky to get to. Whole process of installment took 10 mins then the 30 min start up process.
works like a charm, thanks
I recently replaced mine but it started nicely. No pass lock challenge. I wonder why?
did it work fine over time or crashed again?
I kept messing up the cycle of programming it, but it finally worked!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! My 07 H3 would do this 3-4 times a day in the really hot/humid weather... you helped tremendously!
How does solenoid come out if New part...? Unscrewed but won't come off of part...? Thanks
Has the problem came back?
very nice tutorial

Can you make an update if it ever failed again because mine's been doing that for a while and it did it on a date yesterday and I'm about to replace it
No updates on this one ? Did it fix the problem ?
Have this problem currently. Have you had anymore problems since? Thanks.
So far this has been solved.
Is yours a 2008 h3? I just ordered the part for mine but I was wondering if it would be different for a 2008. Thank you for your quick response!
did this part number work on an automatic hummer h3 or does it matter?
Uhm, go to advance auto parts and put your model in, it should be more specific
Thank you I did it
Can I use this same piece for 2008
H3, Canyon, and Colorados have quite a bit of interchangeable parts. 2004-2012 GM kept installing the same turds.
Did this on mine, however it would not turn over the 3 times. I did everything the same just Turning the key to engage the starter would not turn the engine over. And on the 3rd try it started up.
easy fix if you just clean male and female connector with electrical cleaner.
Wow really I have the same problem right now and I don't have money to buy new one
if sure, just clean the connectors to eliminate the problem. thanks for the replies
@@michaellebbahcoker7646 it worked for you
Did it fix the problem long term?
I have not had the issue since this video was published
AKA "Replacing a part that fucking GM should be responsible for".
Have you had any issues since you replaced the ignition sensor?
Nope
@@user9005 iamgonna try this will i have to the computer reprogrammed or take it to the shop to have it cleared
@@user9005 still no issues with the new sensor?
Omg help
Am trying to do this now and I cannot remove the black top from the ignition
Worked... but came back. Please help.
Did this fix the problem? God I hate passlock
You get the sensor FELETED from the ECM via the PCM from anyone that does engine tuning or from a GM dealership, it only takes a few mins, its a permanent fix!
FELETED or Deleted ?..so, all I need to do is to take it to a shop and ask the mechanic to plug the computer and delete the sensor right?
Following...
Did it work... 3 years ago hopefully it did.
How to remove the sensor from the new part?
If the sensor doesn't pull straight off, just reach into the key cylinder with a screw driver and rotate the mechanism to release the passlock sensor
My key is not popping out the sensor
Its actually stuck
I did this same process as u didn in video but it wont even crank or click. Just dash light flash and then same thing all over nothing
Me too... mine is saying Failed Traction
Hey did you ever fix the issue? Please am doing this right now
Mine shut down while driving
So it only took two times
I changed mine and now my gages don’t work
Mine is not flashing the pass lock. Is just there please help am doing this right now anyoneeee
I simply just got rid of mine a year ago I've had no problem since. In my opinion it's just a waste of money.
Why does a GM care about their customers H3 Hummer ignition stuck can't get key out of ignition why is there a recall
Get an aftermarket remote starter it works every time
Passlock stops my hummer from starting when I use my aftermarket remote starter
That's not true. I have a compustar t12 remote start and it tells the unit to not fire because the sensor is bad.
Definitely not a true statement. 2 hummers, 2 autostarts, 2 passlock issues.
3 years no problem starting again. The truck pass lock ( that’s in the column ran through the ignition ) that there is a problem with security, and cuts off the fuel to start the truck. the 10 seconds is wrong 5 seconds is right.
Everytime I fill mine up it does it so Injust leave it on lol

Shorty ? Anyone ?
Don’t hire someone to do it. It’s very simple.
