In the early-1990's, I built a dual-motor 1/10 4wd RC car by sandwiching the rear chassis halves of a Tamiya Terra Scorcher together. It had two 540ZX Technigold motors, full bearings, and two 8.4v NiMH batteries running through one ESC. Racing against my friend's real Trans Am, the RC car won until 50mph where it topped out. This was without a gyro, but I made sure to give it about 13-inches of wheelbase, and it was rock solid in straights and you could steer it through any corner like it was on rails. But I'm old now, and I almost feel like my brain is a little too slow, and eyes too bad, for these land rockets. :)
Tuned correctly, the AK-917 is an outstanding car. Although i haven't had the chance to film mine in action (due to work, extremely hot Las Vegas temperatures, etc), I have installed several upgrades, and done a few other mods. This is my 3S-specific car. I'll also be building a 4S-specific version, but working out a few things. As for the soon-to-be-released AK-787, I i am still undecided.
Francis you should throw some S1 compound canyon trails (possibly cut?) on some steel beadlocks with printed foams and do a review! Not many know about the S1 compound canyon trails and they’re supposed to be much softer than stock
Fill the diffs with good setup, especially the rear diff is way to stiff from factory. Also grippier tires should help. I love my 917 with scale Vintage Trans Am (Proline / HPI VTA) tires!
So jealous you have these empty car parks and abandoned streets with 4 lanes everywhere... here in Ireland I'm just waiting for the zombie apocalypse so I can start doing speed runs.
I don’t really understand the obsession with having a gyro in the RC cars, I have 2 brushless cars being a slash and 3s infraction and neither of them have gyro or need it in my opinion. I like having that control to do whatever you want with it instantly like drift or slide and I feel like it’s not that hard to be smooth and quick with steering and throttle but maybe I’m missing something about the gyro.
U have to try it, man. It's different. It's not about skills or freedom. The right settings of a gyro will make your car a lot more enjoyable. It's cheap, try one out.

You should see the 797 that's coming out act of arrow on it with a serval you can control the spoiler from the radio.

Do they make ABS systems for RCs?
Most mid and high end radios have ABS. My DX5 Pro does, but I've never really tried to set it up.

Let's face it, right tires (foam or rubber) are going to transform this car. Still, I don't expect it will ever be a "track car". Full out, baby!
