    As I was watching this, I thought, “That’s pretty cool, very clever. Now if it weren’t for all those ugly bolts.” Then you started making the rivets and I went “Ah!” Well done! Happy New Year to you and your family.

      Saw the plated nuts and bolts and knew rivets would follow. Unplated hardware? Still would have expected rivets. :)

    I am transfixed each time I watch a video from you, Torbjorn. But this one took me to a whole new level. There are soooo many blacksmiths out there making blades, but too few showing great craftsmanship making and building other things. I've been a follower for several years now and you never disappoint. I'm very thankful you sacrifice your time for us. Thank you! This project is in my future. John is right, it came out perfect.

      In Scotland we have tapes with metric and inches (Imperial)

      @@hrxy1 No, mm are better. 1 cm is 2 parts 5mm each. 1 inch is in 4 main parts. Each of this main parts is splitted on 2 smaller parts - and each of the smaller parts is splitted on next 4 smaller parts. Too complicated, easy to make a mistake.

      @@mago_8145 no an inch is more organic in terms of proportion, as is a foot. Divisible by 6,4,3,&2. An inch&aquarter, is proportional to 1foot 3inches. An inch halfed is half an inch, halved is quarter, halved an eighth, halved 16th halved is a 32 balved is a 64th, its easier, and its always proportional to an inch and a foot. 3 dimensionally it's more pleasing to the eye, which is why modern cars, tvs fridges and all modern appliances look like shit.

      Thanks John! I don't keep track, but I probably worked on it for about 2 weeks in total. Actual metal production maybe one week... not sure. Filming adds a lot of overhead....

    This is so good on so many levels. The craftsmanship is methodical and thorough. Eg. the chamfers on the outside of the rivets vs. the flat finish on the inside give it that rounded softened feel. The Christmas theme and final fire make it feel comforting and warm. It's so good, I'll probably come back to watch it again and again. It's like blacksmithing ASMR.

    I watched this when it came out a year ago, and I continue to watch this video repeatedly about once a month. It's my favorite thus far, I love the look of it, I love to watch you work with the care you take and the patience you have to do the job right and do it right the first time to make a quality piece that will clearly last for years if its taken care of. Bravo!

    It's beautiful!
    The look on your face though when you dumped the pile of rivets on the forge to start making them sure said "Why did I decide to do this again?" Lots of repetitive work, but the end result is amazing!

    Dude, that seemed like a ton of work. When you put the first rod back into the fire I realised the scope of what you were doing there - all these separate steps, so many of 'em, and you had to reheat it almost every time! With every time you put a stack of stuff onto the "finished" pile, you seemed more angry in the way you put them down ^^
    I hope your family likes to huddle around it as well :)

      @@torbjornahman Exactly. Complete the thirty-fourth difficult, complicated, aggravating piece with satisfaction. Then remember you still have four hundred and eight-one to go. (sigh...) And a deadline that disagrees more and more strongly with probable completion. Experience from my machinist days, of course. Very different, but still very similar, I'm sure. :)

    I never consider fast forwarding his videos despite they are generally lengthy. I know he makes quality videos with high level craftsmanship. I appreciate such effort and time consuming projects.

    Wow... Outstanding craftsmanship, & theatrics. I like the way you cut steel ...over your knee, karate chop, & fingers. I tried it... It didn't turn out so well.

    Wow, that is beautiful! A lot of work, but it paid fully out. The rivets are looking really nice. Everything is symmetrical, round and fits together really well. A masterpiece!
