There's something about the random chores/tasks that you do in your videos in addition to the blacksmithing that makes them so appealing and fun to watch :)
I love that he is one of the most precise and talented smiths I’ve found on TH-cam, and he has no problem making the finest but most basic blacksmiths knife you can make. A true craftsman
The opening bit making crucible steel with the EZ Bake was hilarious! And I am sure you would have to give the dial LOTS of turns to get it hot enough. Not to mention fileing the spring for the powder. I was hoping to see one of kitties use their door, but we can't always get everything. The knife turned out exceptionally well. Another five star video (as if you could manage to do anything else 😉).
The complete package once again Thunder Bear. The thickness of your door amazes me as I live somewhere that never has snow. 32 C. here today and I'm heading out into the bush to gather charcoal for my forge. Stay well.
huh ... my little girl's toy oven doesn't get that hot ... maybe I should upgrade to the next model :) In all seriousness that's a beautiful knife !! very well crafted and wonderful for carving.
ok on page 7 of your manual for your oven it says "push knob firmly in and spin to your desired temperature" so you should be able to get it up to 6700F so that you can get the most perfect steel bars.
To add there are finds here in the UK that point to this style of knife being used by the Viking traders as a belt utility knife for eating and cooking but they were made of wrought iron and not particularly hard edged, most serious working blades were pattern welded or carefully edged with carbon steel like we often do now with Axes.
Once again I’m impressed by your work. Always seems like you put the upmost care into your projects I hope I can get on your level of blacksmithing one day.
We are treated to yet another outstanding creation by our un'questionable master blacksmith. To watch, then see the completion of this masterful birth Is meditation which calm's then sooth's the spirit. Thank You once again Sir. Peace and Love to You and Your's.
Björn, you made again a masterpiece "that would fit in my collection" super explaining about the steps you made, you made us happy and your beautiful cat super happy and your family has to walk less often to the door, extreme nice workshop If I had the money I would love to buy that knife. Lots of respect from Belgium. 👊👊
they belong to the craft guild where rituals are performed and the occult give rise to amzazing smithing skills to enginerding, their secrets are guarded by the highest of its order. T.oT, Tulbalcain, Abom, Jody, Tom, are some of the aforementioned
Beautiful knife!! I am amazed how it started out as metal filings!!! When you make something sharp, WOW!! Cutting thin strips of paper with it!! You are amazing!!
That knife has the perfect profile for skinning, butchering and gutting game. The minimalist handle would be easy to clean too. I want one! Perhaps I should try it one of these days
Again such a beautiful gem, wonderful. Also your stories in history, always a pleasure to see something about you and your family. Please do many more of these videos, and if you have a knife like this left, I would be a grateful buyer! Greetings from Herda, Thomas
Try the Dixie Gun Works catalogue. I bought my first patch knife (same style) out of there 40 years ago for about $6 or $7. They sell for $25 or do these days.
That's an extremely sharp masterpiece! Great job as always of course! I was pleasantly surprised by the glorious return of the linseed oil🤘😎! P.S. love the cat and her(or his) new way out(and in) Many thanks for sharing! Keep it up please!🙂
Wow! That was a very creative trick. :) I love your creations. I just wondered today when will Torbjörn post a new video? Great video with great content. Thank you!
What a precision once again Torbörn, I was totally amazed how precisely the endknob came close to the blade's back as you were folding the end of the handle, masterly. But I was also astounded that you did not make the cat hatch yourself. ;) All the best, stay save my friend. Sven. PS: do you have a special family recipe for smøregos torta? I made one this weekend from an internet recipe and was totally amazed by the simplicity but awesome taste.
Years ago, I was playing Skyrim and wondered how accurate the crafting mechanics were. Google took me to a video of a blacksmith making a knife of this style, and I learned two things pretty quickly. First, blacksmithing in Skyrim is not very accurate. Second, TH-cam is full of people making things, and I love it! :)
Great video, how can anyone dislike this? If forging is not for you then don't watch! I wish I could click on the thumbs up several times. Great to see and just loved the totally off-topic cat thingie in the middle. No disturbing music, no superlong intro and so on. Your videos sparks joy into my life! Thanks!
Although it does help with the view count. Come to think of it, so does bushcraft 🤣The earliest archaeological reference of this type of knife that I have been able to find, was discovered near the Themes in London and was dated around the middle of the 13th century. The style with the finial fitting snugly into a curve set into the handle is attributed to the very excellent acheological Blacksmith Thijs Van de Manakker. Hes well worth looking up. 😊 great job on the knife, I would never have thought of fitting a catflap as part of the annealing process 😊
@@SwallowForge Interesting! And yes, I'm sure there must be endless examples of knives made for sheer utility with no fancy wood grips. But this is a very particular design
@@FrankyBabes i Love this design, been sketching it for years, even made 3dprinted prototypes to feel the handle and how i would have it made, sick that i don't have time for it atm, 7 kids seems to do that with people 😆😅
@@FrankyBabes Ha ha yes. I’ve been making these knives for 20 years or so. I uploaded a video of making one about 6 years ago... its got something like 1.3 million views so far and has both Viking and Bushcraft in the title. Hence my comment 🤣 Torbjorn always adds his own style to these things, and as usual comes up with an excellent video.
Mezmerizing, you make it look effortless. You cracked me up with the baking of the steel bar bit. It makes me think of walking through a steel mill when I was young. After seeing the smoke and steam roll up off the steel vats I wondered if I-Beams and Mack trucks would eventually fall down from the rafters.
Your videos are so in joyable to watch like who needs a carpenter when you have a blacksmith. But it's your forging that I enjoy the most ,just the way it turns out so neat and clean . cheers. :)
There's something about the random chores/tasks that you do in your videos in addition to the blacksmithing that makes them so appealing and fun to watch :)
Thanks!!
That's what I think about Shurrap and his tea. He did a video without it once and I found myself missing it lol
I think my day involves a bit more cursing and crying... Hence why I love his relaxing videos
amazing cool 😘👍, I hope someday I'll make a movie as
Knife forging, cat door installation, and spoon carving all in one video! What a beautiful knife.
My favorite maker has forged a new video!
Pun.

One of my favorite content creators. Long live Thunder Bear!
This is why I love watching your videos, you always do something creative as an introduction. Great work!
Good to see some old-school hot-filing. Clearly a real smith and artist with that hammer control and great lines. This is really impressive.
Beautiful knife! Simple, elegant, functional and hand forged... you can’t get any better than that. Cheers!
These videos are so calming I often fall asleep at night watching them.. then I get to see them for the first time again in the morning!
luv the way you mix humor and magic.....keep it coming!!

Каждая ваша работа шедевр! Ваша аккуратность, подход к делу впечетляет! Здоровья Вам и вашей семье! Удачи и творческих успехов!!!
Damn that knife was intensely sharp with the paper test! I've always loved the design of these little blacksmith knives.
huh ... my little girl's toy oven doesn't get that hot ... maybe I should upgrade to the next model :)
In all seriousness that's a beautiful knife !! very well crafted and wonderful for carving.
:) Thanks! This one is not that great for carving but roughing out something works pretty good! The blade is simply too wide to cut narrow curves.
I use mine as a letter opener :)
You didn't turn the knob enough, rookie mistake! kkkkk
ok on page 7 of your manual for your oven it says "push knob firmly in and spin to your desired temperature" so you should be able to get it up to 6700F so that you can get the most perfect steel bars.
Change out the 60 watt bulb for a 150 watt and you're all set

Coming up next: Blacksmithing - Forging a blacksmiths fork.
Blacksmith’s spoon soon to follow
Will the dinner plate be next in line?
Forking - Making a (future) Blacksmith.
Forks are pretty interesting btw, even tho they look like nails
Blacksmithing - Forging a blacksmiths butter knife
Hope you are in good health and happy. Thank you very much for the video. Keep in touch
I'm always impressed by the attention to detail in your work, Torbjorn. Not to mention the great camera angles!
Beautiful family, beautiful cats and beautiful craftsmanship, you are a very lucky man.
Once again I’m impressed by your work. Always seems like you put the upmost care into your projects I hope I can get on your level of blacksmithing one day.
How very elegant!
When you curled the handle, it reminds me of one side of a set of shears - which are on my mind as I am in a sewing mood.
This is a channel why watching youtube is awesome
top of list of favourite knife making, love watching and hope to emulate one day. just have to find the time

What a beautiful authentic Scandinavian design, superb craftmanship, chapeau ! 🙏
Такие умиротворяющие видео всегда от вас. Получил огромное удовольствие, спасибо!
When I got into muzzle loading rifles some 40 years ago I ordered one of these patch knives out of the Dixie Gun Works catalogue.
Artistically creative 👌. Watching your work is such joy. Thanks.

è sempre un piacere e una scoperta vederti al lavoro. Bravo!
Man, I need to get one of those EZ Bake ovens.
Always a joy to watch! Thanks so much from our family in Germany.

Thank you Christiaan!
Love your craftsmanship on each project.
The artistry with which you made that flat stock... *mwah* it was amazing
Давненько ничего от вас не было слышно. Отличная работа!
Curat si frumos lucrat, de admirat sculele, felicitari!
Thanks!
Guys, I finally discovered his edge. He is forging with magic. This old tony does that too.

Cool, thanks!
Шедевр что ещё сказать. Дверь для кошек тоже круто сделана.

Thanks for another episode in your good series of blacksmiths.
In your channel, professionalism, imagination and playfulness interact.
Thank you very much!
Words cannot give the beauty of this knife !
Excellent as always. I should do a knife video, think I have some 1084 around the workshed.
Thanks. Go for it!

Hurra! Ett nytt klipp med Torbjörn. Så härligt att se
Парень, я с удовольствием просматриваю все твои ролики. Из каждого можно многое для себя почерпнуть. Просто шикарно!!! Спасибо огромное!
Восхитительно и по мастерски однако)
there are many knife making videos on youtube. Very few if any of them are as exact or as sharp as this. Amazing video, and so relaxing to watch.
Today on This Old Torbjörn...
Old Tony doesn't have such great equipment tho... The oven is amazing, I wonder what happens at 5 turns - maybe nuclear fusion?
exactly my thought. high skilled craftsmen with a huge potential for wisecracking jokes. all its left is a colab.
Love the wet stone and strop setup

I absolutely loved it. I was also impressed by your insulation. You won't need to heat that house.
Wow!
That was a very creative trick. :)
I love your creations. I just wondered today when will Torbjörn post a new video?
Great video with great content. Thank you!
Thank you! Great timing
You really enjoy watching your videos, thank you
Wow, that is a beautiful knife, Thunderbear! You should make a sheath for that one :)
love Tormek grinders and love Scandi grinds even more. great video
Considering the choice of raw material, I guess it's now definitely "spring" time again!
:)
Formschön und zweckmäßig!. Ich freue mich immer wieder, wenn Sie einen neuen Beitrag ins Netz stellen. Danke dafür.
You must love those animals a lot, to put a penetration in your cold weather insulation for them!
this video is proof that a knife doesn’t have to be extremely complex in design to be beautiful. good work!!
0:08 So that's how a Swede bakes cookies? I'd love to know the recipe!
An absolutely beautiful work of art!
You need to get "Hoffman Blacksmithing", "Alec Steele", "Green Beetle", and " This Old Tony" stickers
They need to send him stickers 😉
That's a nice hardy functional knife. Thank you for taking time to film, edit And post this video.

PS: do you have a special family recipe for smøregos torta? I made one this weekend from an internet recipe and was totally amazed by the simplicity but awesome taste.
:) Thanks! No I don't have a family recipe for smörgåstårta. I think there are quite a few variations on that theme.
Nice

Me too! :) We need to train them a bit I think.
Cute oven in the beginning. Love watching these vids.
Our lovely can)))
Estimado, lo saludo desde Argentina, admiro verdaderamente sus trabajos.
This is great, I'm so bored of the "cut out with an angle grinder, belt sand in an angle jig" style of knife videos everyone is making now
Sintered metal rod!
Love the cat flap install, very neat.
Cat will still want you to open the door for it though.

Bless you for not calling this a "Viking knife".
Seems like you can't Smith anything on TH-cam without it being Viking in origin.
He he, Thanks!
