Everytime I watch one of these episodes, I become more inspired to peruse the craft of blacksmithing. Plus This guy is family and life goals. Everything is so peaceful and simple. It is like he can pull my dream life right out of my mind and create it.
Well done sir. I believe you are one of my favorite TH-cam blacksmiths ever. No loud talking just making quality items in a way that we can understand. I salute you.
Hej! I am in Sweden with my wife for our honeymoon and it's wonderful to see the decoration of your home and these great traditions, shared by so many around the country. Big fan of your blacksmithing and Sweden!
Wow, that's cool. Hope you see some snow! Down in southern Sweden it's depressingly dark and gloomy this time of the year. Especially without the snow. Merry Christmas!
Great closeups ... very instructive to see the exact effects of each blow and placement/angle, and how it progresses the overall shaping. 👍❤ I've got an entire drawer full of old nutcrackers I inherited from my parents and grandparents. I've broken several over the years too, courtesy of handles that were a bit short and metal that was too brittle for forceful lateral squeezing.
SUGGESTION: Those grooves on the inner side of the curve (8:50) would probably benefit from being very slightly pointier, for better gripping of shells, esp smooth ones. Perhaps a slender bladed cold chisel held at an angle in the groove and tapped would slightly raise the leading edges, almost like cutting teeth in a rasp. Anyway, they look great. Hat's off to you, T.A. 😀
Your videos are like ASMR for me. I love putting them on to relax and just listen to your smithing. The rumble of the forge, the clang of hammers, the raking of the rasp. It's so relaxing. Thank you for making this content.
I very much appreciate that your nut crackers handles don’t meet at the back when closed ! So many do, perfectly designed to pinch the side of your hand!
Excellent job. One of the hardest parts that most people won't notice is making that rivet and creating the heads on both sides without swelling it up and swaging the joint together and making it too tight to move. Well done!
Thanks for the video, excellent as always. Not only are you a perfectionist , but also an artist the grace you move with your tools is beautiful. May God continue to bless you and yours,, Be Safe
It's glögg (a variation of mulled wine), a very common wintertime drink in the nordic region. In Sweden at least, it's often served with raisins and almonds. If you don't want to snack directly from the bowls, simply dump them into the drinking cup itself.
Beautiful! Here in the States, I've been cautioned against linseed oil, preferring flaxseed oil, as the former often has solvents in it. Happy Yule, Åhman family.
Ok, you gotta share the recipe for what you were making at the end there. I'm assuming it's a desert? Looks absolutely delicious! The nutcracker looks nice too :)
glögg or mulled wine it looks delicious and will be sharing this with the family this year. Merry Christmas to you your family and all the susbscribers
What i like in this kind of videos, it's that moment, when you look at this raw iron: "Son, you will be a nutcracker". Would love to know to forge like you. Nice work, as always !
@@torbjornahman Might make a good video next year. That is if your family doesn't mind the camera over their shoulder. I love watching you and your family.
Fran Martinez You can't afford. While the video is only 10 minutes, it took more than 1 hour of work, and considering a scandinavian work hour costs 100 US$, the steel and coal and lineseed oil only a few bucks and also considering that items sold at a store do cost 4 times of their production cost, we are talking about 400 US$ worth. Of course I wonder why he used 15x15 instead if 5x15 and only twisting the end and curve and giving it outer shape by the grinder. Maybe the result wouldn't be strong enough. So true craftmanship does cost way more than we are used to pay for industrial mass products from china.
I know I'm late to the party, but I LOVE this. I needed to watch more blacksmithing content today while at work and this hit the spot. Thank you for sharing, as always!
В занаята сте надарен с талант. Приятно изкарване на празника на Рождество Христово и весело посрещане на Новата Година на Вас и Вашето семейство! ❤ Поздрави от София и България!
Beatiful nutcracker!! Way better than what you find in a store. What you made can handle brazilnuts, hickory nuts, and hazelnuts very easily. Wish I had one like that!!! 👍👍 Merry Christmas!!!! Keep those videos coming!!!
Another great post Torbjorn. I'm not sure everybody will appreciate just how much skill is needed in avoiding disaster during the execution of creating that little gem. You have some nice old Christmas baubles too. Lovely to see them in their aged cardboard boxes. Thanks for a great year's posts and a Merry Christmas to you and yours. Paul
Merry Christmas, and um, what are you drinking might I ask?
Merry Christmas! That is glögg! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gl%C3%B6gi
Sounds tasty
The first thing I was looking for in the comments lol!
Going to try to make that!
Looks better than the spiced cider we drink in the States. I'm more of an eggnog guy tho. Especially with a splash of bourbon or two.
Simple, elegant, robust. Scandinavian design at its best :)

I could just listen to those forge noises for hours. It's always exciting to see a new video!

Thanks, with the "clam shell" form it seems to work fine, but your suggestion sounds good!
Merry Christmas BTW!

You always make it look so simple to get such clean forgings.
By far the very best, creative, tasteful craft-based videos on TH-cam. There is alot to admire and even more to be inspired by.
Wow, thank you so much! Merry Christmas!
Minimalist and pretty. Merry christmas
Merry Christmas!
Nice work. There's something very satisfying about shaping an object by hand with files and rasps.
It is!
If you’re selling, I’m buying. That is a piece of art!
Excellent job. One of the hardest parts that most people won't notice is making that rivet and creating the heads on both sides without swelling it up and swaging the joint together and making it too tight to move. Well done!

I'd guess using the Anvil and one of your many hammers got a bit old after awhile for cracking nuts..
Nicely Done
Skol !!!

I like your work. Clean, esthetic, accurate and no stupid music or talking a bullshit. I'm just hearing the voice od steel.
What was the drink? Coffee with hazel nuts and raisins? Loved the project, and your involving the kiddos, well done, Sir. Thank you.
The drink is called glögg and there are many different recipes if you want to make your own. Try it out! 😊

mulled wine with alcohol or without,
Beautiful! Here in the States, I've been cautioned against linseed oil, preferring flaxseed oil, as the former often has solvents in it. Happy Yule, Åhman family.

@midjetvill I guess it's glögg (mulled wine).
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mulled_wine
Glögg is what it's called!
@@jaokjaok7469 Mulled wine is not exactly the same as glögg, some spices are different I think.
glögg or mulled wine it looks delicious and will be sharing this with the family this year.
