This really helps because when you're a kid with parents who can barely cook you have to learn by yourself and this channel is the only reason I can cook
I absolutely LOVE ❤your channel 😂 I’m Haitian but when it comes to Haitian Food I am self taught! My Great Grandmother was the matriarch of our family and once she left a lot of things changed! I can honestly say that “Your channel has inspired me to keep her alive through the food I cook” ❤🇭🇹 Thank you
WoW friend I’m so happy to hear that you have inspired me to make a new Haitian dish for my channel. Stay tuned friend there’s more to come. Also thank you so much for your beautiful comment I appreciate you. 🥰🥰🥰
You have good cooks from all parts of the Caribbean it doesn't matter where you are from , Hatians, Bahamians, Jamaicans, Trini and the list goes on and you have some ppl that cooks a certain way everyone does not cook the same..I ate from all and to me all taste great no complaints here!!!!
I hope you see this because i always make only 3 cups of rice because it’s a lot to fuck up and have to try again. Today I tried your way especially with the spoon trick it helped me a lot. Everyone always says 2 to 1 ratio but the spoon wasn’t standing. I took out about 1 and half cups of water and my rice came out great the first time.
You don’t understand how this video helped me like really good because like in a Haitian culture, your parents teach you how to cook but I wasn’t raised in Haiti and I’m only 13 and I made rice a couple times but they weren’t so good but when I watch this videoI’m proud of myself because my rice came out so good like really good I just wanna say thank you and plus you subscribe if y’all really wanna know how to cook❤
I absolutely love this video & yes you this is exactly how you cook wrice lol…. I’m not haitian but I learned how to cook some dishes how you all cook! Taste the water!! The foil too! I know some Haitians use a plastic bag… parchman paper is good too! I use that a lot with baking and found it works great for steaming things too! Great video!!! Love your accent & personality!
Haitian rice is not particularly fluffy. It's sticky and gummy and that's what good about it. Indian basmati rice is fluffy, every individual grain are separated and on the dryer side. Both are good i their own way.
Oh, this is so good... Thank you! It works sooo good and is perfect. I always wondered why my rice comes out perfect but the taste is always juuuuust a bit... not right... Then it dawned on me - when I was a kid, a group of our mums would hire a lorry and take us out of school for a day and we'd ride up to the Artibonite to buy 100 kilos of rice (per family) every year... There's NOTHING like Haitian rice, I miss it so.
Woooyyy i aint never wanted haitian food thid bad before!!! I recently moved away from my home in florida and im now in the midwest and i miss my dad’s food SOO BADDD!! There is no good rice in this whole 500 mile radius i swearrrr no Caribbean restaurants or nothing!! I’m thinking about visiting home just to see my family and get some satisfying food again!! No other food in the world hits like haitian food epi dats ittt!!!
I feel your pain. I used to live in Brooklyn where there's caribbean food everywhere and now that I moved there's no culture lmao. So I've got to cook all that stuff on my own. Good thing I know how to good because I'd be in for a real treat if I didn't lmoa
As I am waiting on my tin foil covered rice I am cracking up at the anticipation sound effects you made because that’s exactly how I feel. Lol Can’t mess this up! Thank you for sharing!
You know, Freddie other folk's BASMATI always got stuck in my throat so I avoided it. I made it today using your recipe and it was perfect in a rice cooker-I am still so bad with stove top rice cooking. Also a great thing about basmati is the ease of washing..unlike other rices it does not float up and wash away during rinsing. Wish i could find brown basmati. Thank you!
I usually cook 2 cups of rice to 3 cups of water. I sauté onions then garlic, then add the rice and sauté. I add the water, salt and taste the water, cooked on high. Once it is at a roiling boil, I cover and turned to low. Cook for 20-25 minutes. It always turns out perfect
No Food Wasting! I'm thankful for your video, divorced can't cook ramen noodles let alone rice. But mama.. throw away? Mama you don't throw away and waste ALLLLL THAT FOOD! You say: you know what I am learning how to cook okay? Okay! I funked up this rice but y'all are gonna eat it! Cuz we don't be wasting food up in this house hold while other are going hungry and starving out there. And you serve a glass of water along with whatever it is we drinking to help swallow that rice down lol. Come on mama, get with it! Again, thanks for a great helpful & informative video 👍

@@cookingwithfreddie You’re welcome!
Another way to ensure fluffy rice, you need to make a 2 to 1 ration. Meaning for 1 cup of rice, you would need 2 cup of water.
2 to 1 ratio don’t always work for me, but I can eyeball it easy. I don’t measure it, I’m Haitien.
Haitian rice is not particularly fluffy. It's sticky and gummy and that's what good about it. Indian basmati rice is fluffy, every individual grain are separated and on the dryer side. Both are good i their own way.
I use the 2 to 1 ratio for brown rice. I do 1.5 for white rice, I cup of rice to 1.5 cups of water. 🙏
That doesn’t work with all kinds of rice
It doesn’t work for all kinds. For Basmati and Jasmine rice I use less water. If not, it will be nasty and very mushy. For long grain, that does work.
THANKS SO MUCH MY MOM LEFT FOR WORK AND FORGOT TO COOK ARE RICE BUT I FOUND YOU BABYYY
You’re welcome friend ☺️
You’re so funny! And I learned lots thank you 😊
Thank you and you’re welcome ☺️
my local Haitian restaurant makes THE BEST rice. I was seriously wondering how they made plain white rice so good! Now I know!
And when you’re ready try and make it yourself friend.
