Just wanted to thank you I know how to cook everything else but rice , the rice was perfect using this method also I was about to buy a rice cooker 😢 thank u 🙏 ❤
Babyyyyy I made this tonight and I am so proud of myself. Last week I made white rice and my mom was like you need to learn how to make it the Haitian way. So today I made it she tasted it, nodded her head up and down then said "good job" 😩😩 there's a difference taste in plain white rice vs Haitian. Thank you Freddie on all your videos I love how you literally break down every step even down to what number the stove should be set at (which is very important).
0:18 2 tsp oil / 1 garlic 0:40 1.25 tsp salt 0:46 1.75 cup water 1:09 2 rice 1:39 when to wash rice 2:19 rice center 3:12 mix 4:05 2 tsp butter 4:26 Medium to 1/3 low (30 minutes)
It depends on the rice. My basmati definitely needs 4 cups water to 2 cups rice. And it never disappoints. It is firm and nice. But I’ll try this with jasmine rice.
If you don't have Garlic cloves or the Green Onion you can just use regular Yellow onions the effect is similar and gives that robust flavor you want at the beginning. Thanks again for this recipe!
Freddie I used your method yesterday and it came out perfect. Usually my rice is hit and miss but my 13yr old loved it and wants me to cook it again. Your cooking channel is about to make me all that I can be. Love you. Do you have a grits video? Love cheese grits with shrimp or and protein.
My rice use to come out right but I don’t know what happened. I searched for videos and I looked at two and I was gonna use that recipe but then I searched again and God sent me to you! Atfirst I was like this is a lot but your commentary convinced me. I watched your video 3 times. You explaining everything in detail was key. When I tell you I just uncovered the aluminium foil and my daughter cooks really good and she gave the thumbs up and said was surprised at how good it turned out. Perfect texture. Not mushy at all!!! New Subbie here!
The method you use to cook your rice is why you can use less water (starting with boiling water). I've cooked it both ways (2/1 and 1/1). Good either way, WITH a bag of foil.
So my Haitian American husband tried to argue with me about the plastic bag too and I said honey this is the way Haitians taught me cuz he learned with the foil. Either way works though. Thank you for teaching us ingrates
Freddie I had to tell you, that butter trick though gurl I give it up to you girl.👏👏 Idk but it does smthg to the rice where it's just perfect. I can't really explain it, y'all would have to test it y'allself but my oh my I'm tryna tell y'all, I'm tryna tell y'all. Freddie you should own that say just like carbi B owns okurrrrrrrrr. Much love beautiful ❤️. Keep the videos coming.
Great video! My Mumi taught me similar except have atleast an inch to two inches of water above the rice and you in the safe zone but your way is more ideal as far as giving direction
Thank you for the lesson! I am getting ready to make rice for my lunches for the upcoming work week. I don't have the same kind of rice -- just Walmart long-grain white -- but I am going to follow your directions. 🌹
❤😂😂ms Frefre you are hilarious 😂 you let them know you know your stuff 😅lol I have been following your recipes of giving me touch ups on certain things such as making rice non stick or like you say it “pasty” and yes I use the aluminum foil as you mentioned and my rice comes out perfect 👍🏽 just like you have been educating the world 🌎 of how to make the perfect rice to be enjoyably good 😊 and successful cooking 🧑🍳 Thank you ms hilarious 🤣 😂😅 Be well Take care
Hey Freddie, yes my girl your rice is very shelly and I know it tastes good. However, the person doesn't understand the reason why you were able to use the plastic bag was you did wash it which made it be able to gain more structure. Also, the steam from the rice provides water which prevents it from burning. The rice is shelly because washing your rice allows some swelling because rice absorbs water immediately. The success to making good rice is actually washing your rice properly.
No they did not think the rice would burn they were arguing with me that the plastic bag would burn. It has nothing to do with washing the bag because I always use aluminum foil and I never wash it. I only used plastic to prove a point but I haven’t used plastic in years to cook my rice. It’s the steam that’s cooks the rice because all the heat is trapped.
omg earlier I was literally looking if you have a video on how to make white rice😭 tommorw I’m making ur smothered green beans wit white rice 😋 so thank u for this😭🫶🏾
@@cookingwithfreddie update: made it n it was delicious im a beginner cook so this actually had flavor ngl I’m scared to season but nah this was good 😋 thank u I saved more of your videos cus I’m learning to cook n you are a great not jus as a cook but when teaching it! my Haitian mom even ate it n said it was good lol
Honestly, it has never mattered to me because as long as you get most of the water out and you suffocate the rice with either a plastic bag or foil on low for 15-20 minutes, the rice will come out PERFECT every time. I cook rice almost everyday in a big pot regardless of if I cook one cup or ten. The foil or plastic bag is going to create moisture. Basmati rice is my favorite, Jasmine rice is a close second.
My American ass first thought why not 4 cups of water 😂😂 but one thing I’ve learned my man is Haitian and every video where I watch Haitian food I follow the instructions and my food is ALWAYS perfect 😂😂❤❤
Why are we like this? 😂 I've been cooking since 6 too. I think that's child abuse. Please don't tell my mother I said that because she will still beat my 43-year-old ass. 😅
Its funny how when I cook plain rice I follow the 2 cups of water to 1 cup of rice rule but when I cook Dominican Rice and beans I use 2 cups of water to 2 cups of rice and it always come out perfect. Guess what I'm going to try next time I cook plane rice?🤔
Ok so check it.. either my pots are CHEAP or my medium heat ain’t really medium.. Cuz both times my rice was burnt to the bottom of the pot 🤣🤣. Any suggestions? Cuz I’m invested in this
I also know RICE IF POSION 💀💀 if you don't risen out! All of the milky white water. Keep rising until the water is clear. Ask me how i know? I about died from rice☠☠
That was hilarious, spicing it up; that's what's up. Stick to Aluminum foil, stop using plastic. The chemicals in the plastic aint good for ya. Child don't play with me, :P

Does it matter what pot you use because I do all your steps but it seems as though the pot is too big and the water doesn’t cover the rice that much

Omg 😳 what did you do? Just use aluminum foil friend it will be easier for you
Why are people still cooking rice like this? There's something called "rice cooker" when you can actually get perfectly cooked rice
I would never use a rice cooker. Rice cookers are for people that can’t cook rice and honey a rice cooker got nothing on me.
That’s for people who can’t cook.
I put a plastic bag around it and the bag melted.. ruined the pot and rice. I recommend tin foil or something else…
I’ve been using plastic for years and that has not happen to me not once 🤷🏽♀️
