  • Game of Thrones Season 8 is a long way off, Game of Thrones Season 8 isn't going to be here until 2019!!! But in the meantime we can talk about Game of Thrones Season 8 Theories! This Season 8 theory was sparked by a comment on my Season 8 Secret Clues Video!!! There is all this discussion around the dragons has three heads, three dragon riders and Tyrion being a Secret Targaryen! Well I am very pro Tyrion being a Lannister but I can't just disregard all of the evidence that supports Tyrion being a Targayen! So I found out some crazy crazy evidence that actual supports Tyrion being both Tywin's Son and Aery's Son! That's Right The Lion and The Dragon!!!! This is probably the craziest Game of Thrones theory I have ever presented on this channel... But the EVIDENCE is massive! This is definitely a must see Game of Thrones Theory!!!

      Ronnie Poe I’ve been going through the comments looking for someone else to say that - Joanna was a Lannister, with the Lannister hair and eyes, so Tyrion doesn’t need Lannister genes from Tywin to account for the green eye

      How was Joanna related to Tywin exactly? I forgot...
      But yeah if they were cousins or something that would make sense and be the easiest explanation...
      But chimerism and twin absorption in the womb are both real things... so though rare it could actually happen that if Joanna had 2 eggs in the oven and slept with both Tywin and Ayris within the same day or two... she could have legitimately become pregnant with a child from both men, and Tyrian could have absorbed that other child. If some parts of that other child remained (having two different color eyes is actually a legitimate sign of this) then those parts would have separate and different DNA than Tyrians own DNA, making him a chimera.
      There's even a case a decade or so ago of a woman who found out she was a chimera and had her twin brothers DNA when tests between herself and her children showed that her own DNA did not match them, but her absorbed twins did... so technically even though she bore and birthed them, they're her absorbed twin brothers and her husbands children genetically. And yes that means from a DNA standpoint that they had two Dads.

    I have to say, that I thought of the chimera theory when I read the first book. It was the only thing that made sense to me given the physical description Martin gave in such exquisite detail. I just couldn't imagine that Tyrion would have two different hair colors and eyes of two different colors if it didn't mean something.
    I worked as a molecular biologist for 15 years and for a few years I helped build DNA constructs for knock-out/knock-in mice. To take out a gene and create a new strain, you first had to produce chimeras. The DNA from a genetically different mouse was inserted into the embryo in the blastula stage (when the embryo is just a sphere of cells). The chimeras looked a great deal like the description of Tyrion in the books. Their coats have patches of both coat colors and their eyes are often different colors.

    “… and a mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge.” Tyrion tapped the leather cover of the book. “That’s why I read so much, Jon Snow.”
    The boy absorbed that all in silence. He had the Stark face if not the name: long, solemn, guarded, a face that gave nothing away. Whoever his mother had been, she had left little of herself in her son. “What are you reading about?” he asked.
    “Dragons,” Tyrion told him. “What good is that? There are no more dragons,” the boy said with the easy certainty of youth.
    “So they say,” Tyrion replied. “Sad, isn’t it? When I was your age, I used to dream of having a dragon of my own.”
    “You did?” the boy said suspiciously. Perhaps he thought Tyrion was making fun of him... “Don’t look at me that way, bastard. I know your secret. You’ve dreamt the same kind of dreams.”
    “No,” Jon Snow said, horrified. “I wouldn’t …”
    “No? Never?” Tyrion raised an eyebrow.
    - AGOT Tyrion
    “I have never seen a dragon.”
    “No one has. The last dragons died a hundred years ago or more. But this was before that.”
    “Queen Alysanne, you say?”
    “Good Queen Alysanne, they called her later. One of the castles on the Wall was named for her as well. Queensgate. Before her visit they called it Snowgate.”
    “If she was so good, she should have torn that Wall down.”
    No, he thought. The Wall protects the realm. From the Others … and from you and your kind as well, sweetling. “I had another friend who dreamed of dragons. A dwarf. He told me-”
    “JON SNOW!” One of the Thenns loomed above them, frowning.
    - ASOS Jon
    When Tyrion said that whoever Jon's Mother was, she left very little of herself in Jon. This alludes to a lot of readers on the path to discovering RLJ. However, GRRM had another layer underneath. Tyrion ironically enough was talking about himself, even though he didn't realize it at that moment (There was little Lannister connection of Joanna regarding Tyrion that we know - he has mismatch eyes similar to Shiera Seastar, malformed body parts similar to a few Targaryen babies that never pass one year old, Tyrion's intellectual prowess was from reading of books, not from Tywin, similar to how Jon was shaped in behavior and character to Ned's upbringing; Jon was every look of a Stark, but his inner self is very Rhaegar Targaryen). Classic GRRM.
    Jon stated to Ygritte that he had a friend (Tyrion) that also dreamt of dragons... we learn that if Jon dreams of Dragon due to his Valyrian blood, then this can relate to why Tyrion has dragon dreams.

    This video just makes me believe even more that Cersei & Jaime are the Targaryens, a theory in which I've already believed in for two years. I think you made a video about it once too. Cersei & Jaime being Targaryens just fits so perfectly and no one really sees it because they are distracted by Tyrion. It's perfect and it's so GRRM-like.

      Am in agreemnt with you, Tyrion possibly being Aerys comes off as a red herring for me. Theres a lot of indirect evidence towards the twins being Targs. The main giveaway for me is Tytos, Tywin & Tyrion's predilection for whoring.
      In contrast, the twins, incest is common in the Targaryen bloodline, and Cersei has only been attracted to men with dragon blood (Rhaegar, Jaime, Bastard of Driftmark, hell even Robert for 1 night and he's 1/4th Targaryen from his grandmother). While Jaime has only been obsessed with Cersei and has never had sex with another woman before

    I hate the Secret Targ Tyrion theory. It cheapens the whole struggle of Tyrion trying to prove himself to his father and Tywin rejecting him. Like Genna said: Tyrion is Tywin's truest born child. GRRM has worked so hard to map out this beautifully tragic relationship between the two of them and it would all be for not if Tyrion was a secret Targ. It'd be pointless. Tywin died with a tragic lie on his lips because that's his God damned Karma.

      Jamie and Cersei are older. They would be Targaryan before Tyrion if the king took Joanna before Tywin. Remember, Targaryans like their incest as well! That would make Tyrion the ONLY trueborn legitimate son of Tywin Lanister!

    Tyrion is 100% a Chimera imo - Joanna became pregnant with non identical twins each fathered by a different man, Aerys & Tywin - one twin enveloped the other in the womb, Tyrion ended up with the DNA of both men. I have been telling people this for years glad you've addressed it :-)

    If Tywyn thought Aerys got her pregnant, then he could have had Johanna drink moon tea to abort any child. But the tea wasn't strong enough and only left Tyrion disfigured as a dwarf...or both embryos were affected by the moon tea and Tyrion ate his brother or sister...

  • @jiddinja
    @jiddinja 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    I think we're being misled on the Tyrion as a secret Targ. I think it's Cersei and Jaime. Most folks that have this theory think Cersei is Aerys, but I think it's Jaime. We have Genna Lannister telling Jaime that Tyrion is Tywin's son, not him, and but more telling is the Bael the Bard story told by Ygritte to Jon Snow. Most people believe it was meant to allude to Jon Snow's true heritage, and the parallels are there, but Jon didn't kill Rhaegar. If Jaime is Aerys son, then he killed his father, and as Ygritte pointed out, the gods hate kinslayers, even when they kill unknowingly. That is why Jaime's life went offtrack, why he can't shake the Kingslayer title as the sole definer of who he is. The gods have been putting a thumb on Jaime since he killed Aerys, his father. Cersei is just too much lion and too little human.

    • @Baratheon.
      @Baratheon. 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I think Cersei & Jaime are both Targs, demonstrating the 50/50 coin flip we're told about between Greatness & Madness. The incest, the twins (Targaryens have had about 8 sets of twins since Aegon I), that they've only been attracted to dragon blood - Jaime has only had sex with 1 person, that's Cersei. Cersei has sexual attraction to fire, too.
      Aerys probably bedded Joanna in the Lord's first night custom that's been abolished. It's possible there was an affair since Aerys wasn't crazy back then, and was supposed to be good looking

      Dan B there's "evidence" for several characters. if you look hard enough, it's there. varys could be that or a blackfyre. some even say Meera Reed is Jon's twin sister, separated at birth would make her a secret targ as well. the point of them is that they are rare, to be alive. it's doubtful George would make it such a point just to eventually reveal there's many more secret targs out there. possible, but quite unlikely.

    Like you said, if Tyrion is a Targarean, then it makes Tywin much more relatable and his actions almost justified. GRRM does not think there is pure evil and pure good, but that everyone has a mix of both. If we go by that logic then it would make sense for Tyrion to be a Targarean so we understand that Tywin is not purely evil, but troubled by his reminder that another man got his wife pregnant and killed her due to the birth.

    I agree that Tyrion not being a Lannister MASSIVELY takes away from the significance of his terrible relationship with Taiwin. But I think Tyrion being a genetic chimera makes TOTAL sense, especially given that dream you mentioned (although it's also possible that that dream is just a nod to Tyrion being sort of two faced; one second he's trying to do what's best for the realm and another second he's having a mad fantasy about torturing and abusing Cersei although both dream interpretations are not necessarily mutually exclusive!)

    Actually that fits in perfectly with George's idea of grey characters. When you said at around the 17 minute mark that if Tyrion was a Targareon the audience would feel bad for Tywin, maybe that's exactly what George wants. It would put Tywin in not the evil guy persona completely.

    I think Tyrion is a red herring, and that Jaime and Cersei are in fact the mad king's kids. That's why Joanna sent away the maid who caught them doing the nasty and never told Tywin, fearing that he would do the math when he was told that his children were behaving like Targaryens.

    I'd like to believe that Tyrion is a chimera and did absorb his twin but I'm going to also say that either both twins had one Lannister father OR one Lannister father and one non-Targaryen father. Simply because half of his hair was light colored but half of it was also black, and the "seed is strong" as we know, so how he got black hair from either 2 Lannister (blonde) parents OR 1 Lannister and 1 Targ (silver hair) doesn't quite add up. And wouldn't the other eye also likely be purple/blue at least? The black hair and black eye gene sounds like it would have come from a completely different bloodline than a Targaryen.

    Always interesting theories! :)
    One quibble: you mention Tyrion's dream, where he has two heads, one laughing as he hacks Jaime to pieces, and then when it's all over, he realizes that the other head is crying.
    I always took this to mean... and still maintain it means... that Tyrion is violently torn in his feelings about Jaime. Which I would never call "nothing." That's his character, that's a perfect illustration of where his character was at that time, which I would say is *everything.* It's why I think that, contrary to the show, one of the first pieces of advice Tyrion will give Dany when he eventually meets her, will be something along the lines of explaining the dream, and then concluding with "THAT is what love is, your Grace. You do not want your subjects to love you. You want them to respect you, to trust your wisdom, and to trust that you have your realm's best interests at heart, but you do not want them to *love* you, because love can turn to hate in an instant."
    That dream is powerful. And while I love theories about people's paternities as much as the next person, and have been on the R+L=J train for many, many years... I do think it's kind of getting to the point where it's detracting from what's truly important, which is who the characters have become over the course of their lives, and how their choices and actions shape the course of this universe.
    Completely agree about how Tyrion's importance shouldn't be overshadowed by theories about his birth, as though that's all he is. :)

    Great video, Gray! I actually think that Tyrion and Tywin are a great parallel to Ned and Jon. Jon acts more like Ned than any of his other children because Ned is his father even though he did not sire him. Although Tywin was cruel where Ned was kind, he’s still raised Tyrion as his son. Also as far as the chimerism angle is concerned, yes I agree Tyrion is most likely a chimera. It could also be possible that twins with separate fathers were conceived. However, when a chimera is formed one baby does not absorb or “eat” the other. This actually happens a lot so it’s not very rare. A chimera is the result of the babies fusing together.

    Honestly I think all these theories are over thought. GRRM is a fantastic writer but I seriously doubt that he has spun the elaborate web. The story line is massive. There is no way he could conceive the mass amounts of story and keep it straight.There are flaws and things that dont add up or just go nowhere. It is not the bible. Granted a true classic of epic proportions, but its just a book written by a mere mortal. No hate here. Just my 2 cents worth.

    Technically however the embryo doesn't "eat" the other - the two simply merge their cell boundaries. It's quite like grafting for plants, actually, only it happens _much_ earlier in the organism's development (imagine if you could graft two plant seeds, for example - that would be a closer analogy).

It's rare but possible for two blonde haired parents to make a Brown haired child so maybe he ate his brother but got the dormant traits of the dark hair and Eye. If the superfuncendation (sp?) does come into play then that's really cool too the first time I heard of this was on Maury lol.

    Super fecundation is more likely to be Jamie and Cersei. She is the mad queen like her father was the mad king and the golden blonde could be hiding the white blonde of her true fathers hair. After all blonde is blonde... isn’t it ??? There is also PROVEN timelines of inappropriate behaviour on her wedding night from the mad king!

    I do think Tyrion has Targaryen blood. I would like to take the thinking one step further to Cersei and Jamie. Possibly this is a case of superfecundation, too, with Cersei being from Aerys and Jamie from Tywin. Cersei sure has Aerys's 'burn them all'-fascination with wild fire and even dresses like him/Targaryen last episodes.
    Makes one wonder who Joanna was, really....

  • @MauriceQuestel_Foyal_events
    @MauriceQuestel_Foyal_events 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Gray one thing you need to know about super-fecundation and genetic chimerism ... the first is a 2 egg (2 pockets) the second is 1 egg splitting in two (1 pocket) ... chimera will happen by one twin absorbing the other due to growth issues during embryo status (lack of growth for one embryo and the survival of both twins)... with 2 egg ... therefor two pockets both embryos are not in contact therefor one cannot absorb the other ... only real twins (same pocket) can. Siamese twins are a model of partial chimera embryo absorption ... they say that 2 different colors of eyes MAY be a model of complete fusion of embryos but since congenital twins have the same DNA this can't be proven (actually just a theory).

    I am a docent at a Natural History museum in Philadelphia, and i talk about chimeras. It does not happen because one twin eats another. It is from genes getting mixed early in the embryos development. Calico cats are chimeras. There can be a situation where both dominant and recessive genes are expressed at the same time (as in eastern and western Flicker woodpeckers), instead of the usual way of dominant being expressed most of the time. There are also sexual chimeras, called gynandromorphy. Type cardinal and gynandromorph in Google, and you will see a bird that is red (male) on one side, and buffy brown (female) on the other.

  • @willowdove6703
    @willowdove6703 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I wouldn’t describe it as sibling-eating. Chimeras ABSORB their twins in the womb. The two balls of cells that were separate entities stick together and grow into each other. This is distinctly different from sibling-eating, which most famously occurs in sharks (but can happen in any gestating animal) wherein other siblings are wholesale consumed and broken down for nutrients, with none of their DNA remaining in the consumer.
    I get that this isn’t an official scientific video or anything, and that you’re using a colloquial simplification 🤗, just saying.

    This is ultimately a story of the Stalks. Even though there are many POV characters, the Stalks are the first introduced in the books and show, and injustices they experience pivots the story along. So, you don't have to be a Tygerion to be important. You have to be either a Tygerion, Lannister or Stark.
    Also, Sam's dad disowned him for not possessing the traits he expected from lineage; why can't Tywin despite Tyrion for being a dwarf? In his own words, all dwarves are bastards in their fathers eyes

  • @52rhflight56
    @52rhflight56 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Consider this: As soon as the circumstances arise, Aerys II inducts Jaime as a knight into the Kings Guard. This disinherits Jaime from Casterly Rock. This leaves Tyrion as the only legitimate heir to Casterly Rock under Westerosi law. Why would Aerys II do this? It was because he recognized the Targ lineage from the descriptions of Tyrion, and Tyrion had surived early childhood indicating his own viability. If Tyrion was Aerys' son, this was how a Targ looked out for his own. The dragon would eat the lion from the inside out. IMO, it would not be a surprise for Aerys to have positioned his own DNA or that of his offspring into the other great houses ... just look at Jon's story arc in Winterfell.
    The disinheritance of Jaime is what caused Tywin to resign as Hand and return to Casterly Rock with Cersei. It set the course for Tywin's alignment once the rebellion began. If Aerys II was no longer king, then Tywin would still have a chance to keep Casterly Rock away from Tyrion.

    The chimera thing occurred to me when reading the dream! I'm not saying it's the truth (I can't deny how plausible it is for just Arys to be the father) but it's definitively worth discussing. What takes a little from that in my opinion is the fact that Tywin and Joana were cousins; all the Lannister traits could simply be a result of how he was raised and his mother's DNA

    Okay, I gotta stop ya at 6:18 and say that fetuses or embryos do not "eat" their twins in the case of a chimera. The dead twin's tissue is absorbed into or fused with the twin that survives, often resulting in two kinds of DNA being present, for example. According to Wikipedia, "Animal chimeras are produced by the merger of multiple fertilized eggs."
    I'm not criticizing you; I just wanted to clarify things.
