  • Here’s a topic you’ve never heard debated because it is generally accepted as true. But what if it isn’t?
In this video I will either confirm or debunk this theory. In part 2 you will see the results of the test.

I did this on a build 7 years ago, thin neck, always stays in tune, most stable neck I got.

I guess I just lucked out that this neck twisted. I don't know if I would have made a neck special for a test. Thanks for taking a look always appreciated.

very interesting Dane thanks for sharing this info, I always tried not to get glue on the truss rod too but this seems to have no change in functionality, I have put silicone into a few to keep them or stop them from rattling and that seemed to always work. good video!

Thanks for stopping by Randy. Sure worked fine with the two way rod at some point I will do a test with a single rod.

How is this video 3 years old and only has 359 views? It should be a permanent link at every guitar forum, LOL. Anyway, I use Bitterroot truss rods which are sealed and the guy I learned from glued them in as well, so that's what I do. Great test videos.

Hi Dane, thank you very interesting. What would you think about greasing the truss rod a bit with vaseline or bearing grease and than epoxy in the rod in place? In my experience the glue can go everywhere to fill and form and will not stick to the truss rod at all. There you have it what we all want. Grtz R.

Retro4fun, I would not want any type of oil contamination in the rod channel. A little Vaseline on the nut threads is totally acceptable. The epoxy worked fine on a coated rod but would probably screw up a bare rod. Thanks a lot for watching!

Thank you for taking the time to record this. I'm starting to build guitars and I'm using hot hide glue with a carbon fiber rod on each side of my truss rod. So far the build seems very solid. I'm glad I came across your video. Keep up the great work!

What if you had strings on it and tuned up would it still work!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😊

Good question Steve. I theorize that the neck will be more rigid with the rod epoxied in. Which should then require less movement to compensate for string tension. And since the truss rod is still strong enough to move the neck just as much as a normally installed rod it think it should work perfectly with strings on.🎸🎸🎸I will test that theory as well at some point.

Yes very. I'm sort of surprised but then not at all. Cause I've been thinking about this for a long time and was pretty sure it would work. And I'm glad that my theory was correct even though I feel like I was unable to articulate my mental process well in the video. I was polishing a nut last night and was reminded of our conversation at diner when you were kidding me about how shiny my guitar nut was. You can meet some really great people on TH-cam.
