  • Here’s a topic you've never heard debated because it is generally accepted as true. But what if it isn’t?
In this video I will either confirm or debunk this theory.

We used to use the Martin style rods and we would glue the U channel into the neck... they worked great. We only stopped using them because we wanted to standardize rods for guitar set neck & bolt on as well as basses. That way we only need one pin router template.
Good idea for a video though brotherman

I would be interested to know how this turns out, I've never glued a truss in the channel but I can see where it might make adjustments more significant. rock on brother!

I'm not going to spoil the ending but I agree that gluing the rod in sholud make for a stronger neck overall.

Use silicone to glue it in, should give enough to still function and allow removal should it breaks, If you glue it in with epoxy there’s no getting it out later without removing the fretboard which I believe is the real reason for not gluing them in.

Not sure if I mentioned it in the part 1 but I say that one possible downside is not being able to remove the rod should it become damaged. I have always spot glued two way rods in with an acrylic clear caulk like Lexal but I don't like silicone anywhere near guitars because it can really screw up a finish. The whole idea of this experiment is to prove or debunk the long held belief that a truss rod will not function if glued in.

I suspect you are correct as long as glue doesn't get sneak onto any threads. I also suspect the purpose of the wrap is to keep any rogue glue off the moving parts which works in favour of your theory.

100amplifiers, thanks for stopping in Todd. Great minds think alike. Now we just have to wait and see.
