We hope this is helpful. This works on painted bodies and necks as well. Just use color dyes instead of stain.

    I don't know?.sanding is scratching around it

Just lightly sand with a very light grit. Work your way down to a 4000. Then buff it with a rag and polish. You don’t have to push down hard. The amount of clear they put on these guitars is insane. So you can definitely shine it up. If you think you may have went a little hard on the sanding. Get it as smoothed out as you can. Tape it all off around the spot and spray it lightly with a can of poly or nitro depending on what you have.

Not bad... the dark spot looks completely out of place however. You should have gone with stain to match the rest of the finish. Fender would never leave a "knot" like that on a neck stock.

Yea it actually kind of looks like someone put a cigarette in there string and let it burn the wood. Just an example of what a person can do.

The black stain looks worse than the chip did. Fail.

Totally understand why you would feel that way. It turned out looking like someone stuck there cigarette in the strings and let it burn down to far. That was a big thing in the 80’s. May be good for someone who is into relic/road worn look. But the process is what’s important here. Thanks 👍
