Props to that old black cop that somehow survives the original shootout then caught up to the gunfight and managed to get a kill shot on the moving target. Nice job old guy.
Horrendous tactical planning. You're anticipating confronting gang members who are most likely going to be well armed, and everyone is deployed only with sidearms? 🤔😒
In a small town like ours our police department does carry small arms so they would sadly be walking into a situation like this. As John says on the ASP channel on TH-cam Officers don't pick their gunfight the gunfights pick them and you go into a gunfight with the weapon you have. Its just the way it is in some towns. What wins gunfights most of the time is the heart and will of the cop or detective. Tactics can be important yes but as we learned in the Army that all goes out the window because the opposition has a say in the gunfight.
@@32a34a for a small town police force like you mention I get it, but this scene obviously played out in a large metropolitan area where the police would have more resources available to them. Also, this scene did not play out as a random shoot out that officer on patrol came upon. There was planning shown at the beginning of the scene where they discussed what they might be walking into. I realize that this is fiction performed in a manner to maximize some level of entertainment value, but it should be pointed out that you would hope that real law enforcement given similar circumstances wouldn't be quite as incompetent as what is shown here
@@jim2lane I agree with what your saying and I noticed some errors in what they were doing during the shootout but as you said its a Hollywood production. Having said that there have been some real world shootouts where shit went sideways and well lets just say things did not go as planned. FBI shootout in Miami for example. Granted that was awhile ago but man they knew they were going up against some serious cowboys and yet they still underestimated those guys. The errors in that shootout led to changes that are still felt to this day and and are used in training to this day. R.I.P. Agents Benjamin Grogan and Jerry Dove. My point is I guess True Detective gave it their best shot but I think they came up short as they made some errors which you pointed out and I think a couple of moments nearer to the end made me think yeah right even Dirty Harry couldn't pull that off.
@@32a34a Small town cops often carry more than just their sidearms. There are plenty of small town departments that let officers bring weapons from home.

Yeah in reality they would have all died. Suppress and move or die. All of that "cover" is actually concealment. Those 7.62 would have eat though that like cheese.
The tactical advisor for this show should be fired. Advisor: Ok so everyone is going to causally walk single file down this sidewalk. Director: are you sure? Advisor: That’s how SWAT does it.
Pro Tip: An AK47 7.62x39 round at close range will go right thru both sides of a car body like a hot knife thru butter. Your only protection is possibly behind the engine block and the wheels (a U.S. Recon Marine vet. and former Close Combat Instructor).
It's been a long time since I saw this show. Poor leadership and lack of planning got a lot of people killed. Did anyone surveil the target? Find who is in the building? Did anyone think of using SWAT? I hope people were fired and charged for this.
Good points. I hated how they practically never had to reload and you didn’t really see a bunch of mags on their belts. Honestly when that one officer got shot in the head I would’ve stolen his gun and extra ammo.
I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. What a disaster for our three lead characters…like 80 people just died! But oh so entertaining for a drama show.
1. someone teach the director continuity of shots, the car out the back of the place to be specific was goin 5 Mph to 40 Mph and back to 5 Mph. 2. holy crap please send these cops back to basic training. specifically for marksmanship and tactics. this was painful to watch .
No real gunfight ever had so many bullets put down range with so few hits. The number of openings for hits was staggering, the number of misses even more so
This is actually typical in comparison to studies by the military. Not saying the fire fight is realistic, but military studies show staggering amounts of ammo used in return for just one enemy casualty.
@@LordNinja109 i think that is in large part because military often shoot at targets they don't have a visual on for suppression. In this case they have clear lines of sight and yet still no one gets tagged. Also the ak47 had unlimited ammo that annoyed me.
@@Gunnar001 yeah the guy with the AK-47 is just hanging out an open window with his infinite ammo magazines and shooting for a full minute while all 8 cops somehow can't hit him despite the fact he's just standing in that window barely moving and they have all sorts of angles on him. Then the other guys escape, are completely caught in the open surrounded by cops, and the first thing they do is waste ammo shooting at innocent civilians for no reason instead of finding cover, and the cops still don't hit them.
All the Hollywood stereotypes in one scene-the tough chick in charge (yawn), bringing pistols only, shooting and staying on one place and the worst, cops chasing someone on foot who is fleeing in a vehicle.

The scene when Rachel poses as a prostitute to go in and grab the one chick they had been looking for, and when trying to leave a big security guy grabbed her and tried preventing her from leaving - she for the first time since she had been training following her sexual assault - had a chance to put it to use. But when she did - the look of horror on her face afterwards was some of the finest acting you'll ever see.
What am I reading
Absolute plebs
It was nowhere near season 3 ffs 🤣
Season 2 was a massive let down .. it was just so boring for most of the season … end scene was great … but the season was a let down
Season 1 can’t ever be topped but season 3 was a massive return to form
Ali and dorff were amazing
@@w1ldcard743 You wanna talk about boring... season 3 was the ultimate snore-fest my man. lol. But to each his i own i guess
Those civilians should have run as soon as they heard the explosion, it's on them.
Lol definitely
Hell, they should have been out when the heard the automatic gunfire lol.
That's what they get for protesting. /sarcasm
I love watching Rachel McAdams run like a boss. She’s bad ass in this scene!
This season gave me a thing for her. Especially the knife training
Wow this is like one of those I'll never skip a cutscene videos.
I love how the cops have two mag holders on their belt… they shoot constantly… never hitting anything… and never run out of ammo. What a joke.
It's called a "pouch", but good observation.
@@t-jh4236 What does the “pouch” hold? Haha.
Didn't Ani run out of ammo at the end?
@@mariuszpudzianowski8400 she did and went to her boot knife. What’s apparent to me is that if she’s shooting more as the scene goes on either those mags were picked up along the way or she had time to reload from what we don’t obviously see in her belt in a suspension of disbelief thing
No one in here has ever been in a fire fight. Yet they're all experts. Hilarious
Haven't seen this since I first watched, almost ten years ago... SO good. Rivals the movie Heat, for sure!
She is super bad ass. It was cool when she ran through the crowd of people with her gun held high and proud. And I need their mega capacity mags, all very impressive.
You forgot about the reactive shield she had... not a single bullet hit her... all bounced around the invisible plot shield. In fact, it is rare to see an scene of a woman getting shot... normally you see guys getting the head blown, dismembered, and shit.. I wonder... do they come equipment with plot shield when they are born? because if that is the case, women should go to the front of all wars XD.. just kidding. The scene was honestly ridiculous.
You must be a child..comic book gunfights are more realistic than this. This Is Puke...
4:14 - lining up the front and rear sights can help prevent shooting down into the ground in-front of you.
Lol I noticed that too, she does it pretty much every time
these guys would be fired so fast they didn't even make a parameter nothing no tape no block offs christ
When she runs in to the building that has a guy firing full auto one storey above and the entire floor above that exploded but everyone is just going about their day, totally realistic and didn't snap me out of the action.
I love how they can keep up with an suv. That suv must've been traveling 20mph in that alley. The average human can run 6-10mph. Depending on their physical fitness.
I can't wait for the new season, and I think Season 2 is criminally underratef/ c
Belt fed magazines and bullet proof cars!
This show is stupid lol
Props to that old black cop that somehow survives the original shootout then caught up to the gunfight and managed to get a kill shot on the moving target. Nice job old guy.
This scene gives me the chills and that's why True Detective is one of my favorite shows.
This episode and scene! Im so excited to see what happens next.
Horrendous tactical planning. You're anticipating confronting gang members who are most likely going to be well armed, and everyone is deployed only with sidearms? 🤔😒
Right?
The detectives would definitely bring in the door kickers for that (SWAT). Head to toe gear, ballistic shields.
In a small town like ours our police department does carry small arms so they would sadly be walking into a situation
like this. As John says on the ASP channel on TH-cam Officers don't pick their gunfight the gunfights pick them and you
go into a gunfight with the weapon you have. Its just the way it is in some towns. What wins gunfights most of the time is
the heart and will of the cop or detective. Tactics can be important yes but as we learned in the Army that all goes out the
window because the opposition has a say in the gunfight.
I realize that this is fiction performed in a manner to maximize some level of entertainment value, but it should be pointed out that you would hope that real law enforcement given similar circumstances wouldn't be quite as incompetent as what is shown here
@@jim2lane I agree with what your saying and I noticed some errors in what they were doing during the shootout but as
you said its a Hollywood production. Having said that there have been some real world shootouts where shit went sideways
and well lets just say things did not go as planned. FBI shootout in Miami for example. Granted that was awhile ago but
man they knew they were going up against some serious cowboys and yet they still underestimated those guys. The errors
in that shootout led to changes that are still felt to this day and and are used in training to this day. R.I.P. Agents Benjamin
Grogan and Jerry Dove. My point is I guess True Detective gave it their best shot but I think they came up short as they made
some errors which you pointed out and I think a couple of moments nearer to the end made me think yeah right even Dirty Harry
couldn't pull that off.
@@32a34a
Small town cops often carry more than just their sidearms. There are plenty of small town departments that let officers bring weapons from home.
Ok listen up let's park a block away and walk to the target house and everyone pretend like you've never fired a weapon befor.
They didn't know they were walking into an ambush.
I absolutely hate how the 3 main leads are the only survivors at the end.
I was like "C'mon man this isn't the 80's or 90's anymore"
Total whiplash to how ridicolously grim and edgy the season was trying to be.
Now imagine if it was done well and also somebody had taken the time to actually get the sound design correct
bringing handguns to a gunfight, bullet-proof cars, and great audio bass from gunfire.
They brought sidearms to a long gun fight
I love how this scene in the show, they started shooting the civilians for no reason, you don't see that movie, they mostly scare them away by shooting in the air!!! Also, some cops get drop!!!
you sound like you have problems
I love this series but cops don’t walk into a serious raid with pistols. Only one cop in the stack with a shotgun.
No one cares.
How did I watch this scene the first time with a straight face.... rewatching it now and I cant help but feel sad at their incompetence!
Never take a pistol to a gun fight.
It's been a long time since I saw this show. Poor leadership and lack of planning got a lot of people killed. Did anyone surveil the target? Find who is in the building? Did anyone think of using SWAT? I hope people were fired and charged for this.
I think you are using a bit of sarcasm ... ? At least I hope you are lol.
@@johndougherty8720 I hope he’s not as he’s right. But I’m an American and we like proper tactics and strategy.
Good points. I hated how they practically never had to reload and you didn’t really see a bunch of mags on their belts. Honestly when that one officer got shot in the head I would’ve stolen his gun and extra ammo.
@@johndougherty8720 Sarcasm? What sarcasm?
@@majorlagg9321 Well its a tv show i dont think anyone was fired or charged. I dont think they exist.
The good old „I got 350 more bullets in this 5shot shotgun“ type of movie 😂
I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. What a disaster for our three lead characters…like 80 people just died! But oh so entertaining for a drama show.
@1:00 😂 Those rounds would be tearing right through those cars in real life
This makes the second series worthwhile..almost.
That guy in the window was putting in work lol
I hate to see innocent people get hit
The action is great .when the explosion came I thought that was over .good chacing on the tahoe.i really expected that to come .in a response team.
1. someone teach the director continuity of shots, the car out the back of the place to be specific was goin 5 Mph to 40 Mph and back to 5 Mph. 2. holy crap please send these cops back to basic training. specifically for marksmanship and tactics. this was painful to watch .
The CGI explosion was worse. I like the old days when they would use a model building.
Damn! I have to watch this again!
Man Woodrugh was such a badass. Didn’t deserve to go out the way he did. M
How can hollywood not know that bullets can and will go completely through a car body as long as they don't hit the engine block?
Luckily no civilians were injured
This is seriously slapstick drama
No real gunfight ever had so many bullets put down range with so few hits. The number of openings for hits was staggering, the number of misses even more so
This is actually typical in comparison to studies by the military. Not saying the fire fight is realistic, but military studies show staggering amounts of ammo used in return for just one enemy casualty.
@@LordNinja109 i think that is in large part because military often shoot at targets they don't have a visual on for suppression. In this case they have clear lines of sight and yet still no one gets tagged. Also the ak47 had unlimited ammo that annoyed me.
no, all the missed shots are actually the most realistic part of this scene
@@devinmccanna645 oh, really?
@@devinmccanna645 please note the sarcasm
lmaoooo the dude got it for no reason at the end lmapoooo
This was the moment where season 2 went right off the rails and did not recover. Prior to this it was a pretty good show in my opinion.
This shootout scene on of the "best" in movie history, beside the Sicario Border shootout scene.
Realistic, brutal, merciless.
It's a pretty good one for sure Black Hawk Down had some good scenes
It reminded me of "Heat" - which, in my opinion, is still the best shootout scene in movie history
This isnt realistic at all
This scene was laughably bad. What are you blabbering about?
@@Gunnar001 yeah the guy with the AK-47 is just hanging out an open window with his infinite ammo magazines and shooting for a full minute while all 8 cops somehow can't hit him despite the fact he's just standing in that window barely moving and they have all sorts of angles on him. Then the other guys escape, are completely caught in the open surrounded by cops, and the first thing they do is waste ammo shooting at innocent civilians for no reason instead of finding cover, and the cops still don't hit them.
Love the endless ammo! Yes, I bring 15 mags to work each day.
Lot of things wrong here. Yikes.
I miss this series
This entire season was just contrived grim dark shenanigans, including this ridiculous shootout.
ah yes 150 round magazines, girl boss shooting.
no wonder the show died after season 1
In real life, they wouldn’t have been just strolling down the middle of the road.
I love how they're cops and one of their own gets shot, and someone just says "sh*t"
Great season. The last two episodes were like an episode from GOT
All the Hollywood stereotypes in one scene-the tough chick in charge (yawn), bringing pistols only, shooting and staying on one place and the worst, cops chasing someone on foot who is fleeing in a vehicle.
Also people taking cover behind things that don’t stop bullets. (Any part of a car that isn’t the engine)
this whole scene... there's maybe 2 people with decent weapons handling. for such a popular show man... shit gunfights
Hahaha running after a car thats fleeing the scene, but can only go 9mph
@@joshmiller902 season 1 and 3 had much cooler gunfights. This whole season has a super different feel
It's called a ..... 🍿 Movie 🎥
Gunfights are awesome when you never have to reload
I really think season 2 is the best season of true detective.
The cop gets blasted, just walking thru the street with that door buster down thing haha. Shits too real
There is sure alot of bullets in that 30-round SMG mag
When you know you are going to a gun fight... bring a rifle.
2:01 It is more apparent on rewatch how Dixon's death was arranged b the conspirators. That shooter had plenty of opening to shoot Woodrugh but left him untouched.
best shooting scene ever
if any cops in yo city walk down the street that calm that close to a scene you needa get tf out that city lmaooo
I like how the people are just watching lmao
good old 90s flavour cheese
2:02 Rookie mistake. If you're in a shootout don't be a side character.
Ah yes....let's just casually walk up to a raid from the middle of a street, no remote backup, and wearing every day patrol gear.
