    *"I LOVE THIS VIDEO"* I've had a 30w Fiber Laser Machine for nearly two (2) years now and haven't engraved one thing yet other than some of those black aluminum cards which seems to be the only thing I can do as a noob because I don't understand settings and the machine coming from China provides no support. This is some great info and I will be trying these settings tomorrow to see if I can find the problem to my delima of not being able to successfully use my machine properly and engrave like it should.

I'm looking for more details on how speed + power + frequency impact the depth of engraving, specifically to optimize cutting metals (no hatch, just a 0.3/0.1 wobble config'd for the pen). I can see I need to dial this in for each lens (50W JPT; f100 and f290 lenses). Do you have something like this done --OR have info on how I calculate it? 🍺🦝👍

    Hi Jeffery, Thanks for the video, it is very helpful. I am looking to do darkish marking stainless steel with a 30 watt fibre laser (it is MOPA) however I need it to be a durable mark. It is for a kitchenware product that will be used almost daily and be cleaned in a dishwasher. I don't mind if it fades a little over time but it must be durable enough to be distinguishable and not flake like MOPA laser annealing can over time. Do you have any ideas or know of a good resource for this?
    Cheers, Jason

    • @jefferyj
      @jefferyj  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jason - I don't have enough experience with long term durability of annealed black marks on stainless to give you a good answer. I'm curious though, how many washes does the mark stand up to until it is damaged? I may experiment with this...

    Another big thank you from me: it’s really great that you are publishing videos of your experimentation since there isn’t much else out there.
    Is there a shortcut you use when making those test patterns or do you go through the boxes one by one and adjust pen settings?

    • @jefferyj
      @jefferyj  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been trying to find a shortcut by opening every file in the ezcad folder that looked like it might store pen settings, but I haven't found it yet. So yes, one by one....very tedious. If you want the file to play with, let me know and I'll send it your way.

    • @iainwade
      @iainwade 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Param/markparam.lib has the saved param library- each [section] is a single pen config, but unfortunately while that would allow programmatic generation or just search and replace, you would still need to manually apply a different setting to each pen which is still 75% as tedious.

    yeah i run a 50 watt fibre laser and have never changed those spot settings since the machine is installed, instead setting up the desired finish using speed, power and freq and controlling the mark with spot size (typically 0.04) and various forms of hatching and cross hatching say if the material coating is particulary troublesome, so 50hz delivers the most power and then upping to 80 or 90hz for a nice polish (on steel) so just as an example , 0.04 spacing, cross hatch, 3000 speed, 100% power and 50hz for taking a coating off then 0.04, single hatch, 3000, 60 power, 100hz to polish

    Could you please let me know what's the different between Frequency setting and Wobble Distance setting? I'm confused because they both change the density of the wobble circles.

    • @tuananhtrantrong5140
      @tuananhtrantrong5140 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      i think that keeping the frequency constant, increasing the wobble distance must increases the speed, is that right?

    • @jefferyj
      @jefferyj  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wobble is used to thicken a line. It will allow the laser to deviate from the 'on screen' path by an amount you set to gain thickness or coverage.
      Frequency controls the number of pulses in a period of time - the higher this number is set, the less destructive each pulse will be.

I operate a 30w KT Laser and while trying to figure out the rotary table the other day, the "speed (mm/s)" setting under "Marking Parameters" has changed to "step (mm)". So now instead of the default being "Speed (mm/s) - 300" it reads "Step (mm) - .020". So y question to you is, do you know how to get it back to read "Speed (mm/s)" instead of "Step (mm)"? Well done. We have many greens, reds and oranges at 25% power in the .0005 and .001 line space range.
    At 20% power, we did a second pass at 0.001 line spacing and got a nice black luster at 80kHz, and a deep maroon at 60kHz.
    If you want to get some rainbows, we did a double pass at 20% power, 800MM/s to get brilliant colors at .0005,.001 and .002 across all frequencies.

    Hi Jeff, I just bought a nice used 30 watt fiber laser. It worked great at the seller's house, because of course he KNEW what all of the settings do. Well, I loaded EZCad2 onto my laptop, and got as far as the laser drawing the DXF file with red light, but I am NOT burning or etching. Can you do a video on how a complete green behind the ears NEWBIE laser owner can get set up and burning? I can draw DXF files using my plasma table software, so I do not need to know about drawing with EZCad2 quite yet. But I want to know what I am doing WRONG, that I cannot burn an image into a black anodized blank business card. I have subscribed, so I will be watching with great interest!

    • @b.gallucci7186
      @b.gallucci7186 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to dial in your focal point. I was having the same issues getting stuff to burn. The process I used as a newbie was to move the laser up or down by 1mm at a time and trying to mark. Once it starts to burn, keep going and pay attention to the sound of it marking. Once you hit the loudest point, that's it.

    Hello, on the Power vs speed and power vs freq the hatching is not setup. I cant seem to be able to figure out to hatch more then one item on the page. When editing the hatching parameters on right IE Speed, power and Freq then click APPLY and got on to the next and change it. After doing rows, I go back and click to check it and the last info I input in 1 box shows the same info I put in the last. If possible can you explain how to set up parameters and do hatching on the box to show different values. Thanks again for doing these they helped a lot.

    When I tried doing stainless steel at first on my 30W fiber non MOPA it was like a brownish goldish color and I didn't like it but now I go out of focus by 3-5mm and it no longer etches the steel but burns a very dark image on the steel. You should try to go out of focus to get that black anneal and also see what colors you can get out of focus. Great videos especially since there is so little out there in tutorials for these lasers in English.

      i too have 50W raycus fiber non MOPA, does frequency affecting the result too? because the company said no need to change the frequency because its not MOPA. i really need black smooth marking but never achive it, always looks goldish color. Please help me..

      @@rumblemumbles Do what I told you above, you need to find the sweet spot where it starts to etch the metal then raise the head about 3mm to get the dark image. Also you want the lowest Frequency your laser goes to make dark images. I have a 30W so my laser can do 30 KHz to 70KHz. The higher the frequency the lighter in color for non MOPA.

      @@Angryhelder yeah i already try for 1 week with every parameter and power setting with my 50w and 50KHz and raise the focus, but the result is always not truly jetblack, it turns out greyish black. but thanks for the info. sorry for my bad english.

    hi complete newb here so I hope this isn't a stupid question but can anyone tell me If you can change the max Khz in the configurations, I keep trying to make tests with parameters that use 40 or 50 kHz but ezcad keeps telling me the max is 20, so is that it I can't use frequencies above 20?

      Switch to a longer focal length lens like a 300x300, this may help.

      If it's upside down and reversed, go to parameters>field tab, then swap the galvo 1 to galvo 2.
