    Note: To modify pen settings beyond "pen 1" make sure all objects are not selected. If you want to change your "Mark Contour" or outline pen for an object, choose the colored blocks while an object is selected. This messed me up a few times. Great vid Alex!

    Is there a setting in variable text that would allow text on a curve with a base angle chosen (say 135) and also an angle range chosen to (say 90) for the characters to be a fixed height and spacing unless the text string needs to scale down to fit inside the angle range selected ?

      That's a bit beyond anything we've gotten into, and I'm not sure on that. Ezcad does have some access to automation, but not something we've dove into. As a starting point, you may be able to utilize the variable text functionality.

    Alex i want to thank you so very much for all you do for the Fiber laser owners ,iam the poster child to KISS i have had my 30w Fiber for about a month now and pretty much everything i have learned from massive You Tube Vids is yours you make things far better for us new owners i would venture that for every 10 Fiber laser units purchased 4 get left just setting because of the massive gap in understanding China based software and the fact we has Americans do not for the most part get much from a sound less video from over there. My supplier has been good to deal with even thou the time change is about 14 hour response time he helped me with some set up issues and corrupted EZCAD software that came with the machine... In todays world there are two many here on You Tube that just show off there laser skills with head banging back ground music newbies like me learn nothing from this... Laser Everything hands down has been my go to for learning what really is a steep learning curve for a average guy like me . I joined the discord not real sure how to use it and iam going to become a patreon member with you as the Parm lib would be such a big help for me as a Gun Smith of 24 yrs having example the P mag settings is big for me who wants to distroy 20 dollar Pmags learning. Is there a way to lock a text box to specific x y coordinates. So if you edit text and add lines it still locks it there in the centre.

    • @LaserEverything
      @LaserEverything  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you get text centered where you want it you can 'center justify' the text in the ezcad text options like you would in microsoft word or other word processors. Doing so should accomplish what you're asking for. Will be on the left hand side of the window under text properties when you have the text selected.

    Thanks for the video. I think it will help me but I have a problem with my new fiber laser I just got. I tried some tests on a piece of steel with a jpeg image of my makers logo and it worked great yesterday. Today, I tried the same image on other typrled of steels as well as my first practice piece and I noticed the laser stays red and doesn't burn the material away to engrave it. It does make a very light colored mark but that's it no matter how many passes I make.
    Initially I thought something was wrong with my laser but I tried to engrave text through the program and it engraved just fine.
    I don't recall changing anything significant in easycad but I have no idea what it could be to cause this. Any help would be much appreciated

    hey thx for this demo , what is the Hatch colors for, why would i choose red or blue or black pens , when laser engraving will all be colorless, ( when to use different color pens and whats the effect of it on objects, my 2nd question is about the angle ( from lense to the object it is 90 degrees right? ) so u said something like 45 & -45 can u educate us more about that coz im confused

    • @LaserEverything
      @LaserEverything  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      pens are for if you want to use multiple settings on the same project, each pen color represents a different setting - doesn't have anything to do with the actual color of the mark. Also the angle between the galvo and the surface is 90 degrees, yes. The hatch degree setting refers to the direction the lines are engraved when the engraving is happening. 0 degrees would be left to right, 90 would be up and down 45 would be diagonal.

    • @LaserEverything
      @LaserEverything  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shouldn't be a specific setting, is your line distance REALLY REALLY tight? If it is it may not be able to resolve your hatch.

    Can someone advise how to combine and mark text plus a heart at the end of the string? I have tried a bitmap for the heart and a symbol. The bitmap option with text marked only the text. Using a heart symbol converts the symbol to a box with an X. That prints the text and the box with X. There must be a trick to this. Thanks.

The latter does not recognise "the dog" (=dongle=running laser machine) any more. The old computer still can operate the machine, so there's nothing defect.

    Question... If I want to upgrade from ezcad 2 to 3 do I need to prepare anything like saving my laser settings?

    • @LaserEverything
      @LaserEverything  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You'll need an ezcad 3 board inside your actual laser as the ez2 boards are not compatible. You may also need to upgrade your power supply. Finally you can copy the text out of your ezcad PARAM file and paste it into the one in your ezcad 3 folder. To my knowledge almost everything transfers flawlessly.

    • @LaserEverything

      Hey Eddie, Windows doesn't associate ezcad save files with the software so you have to open the save file from within Ezcad. Open ezcad and click the Folder icon to open a file. Navigate to where you saved your ezd and open it from that context window instead.

      It takes a lot of time and practice to get used to adjusting for the red outline and getting artwork aligned with tight tolerances, but the first thing I would suggest is, make sure your red light outline is 100% accurate with your engraving. Also knowing how you have it configured (red outline represents the inside edge of the artwork, outside edge, or spot on) and adjusting to and getting used to those tolerances and ensuring you're in focus when doing so. We have a video for doing this with lightburn, but the process is very much the same for ezcad, in the f3 params. th-cam.com/video/ip08rkqw9o4/w-d-xo.html

    I've been playing around with my new 50 watt laser, and trying to figure out the hatching part. Some vector images I try seem kind of goofy when I hatch them, leaving blank spots where you really don't want them to be. So is it possible to more accurately control exactly what gets hatched and what doesn't?
    Also, referencing at 25:45 in your video. Doesn't the entry to Line Space need to be related to the size of the actual focused dot of the laser? And that is related to the lens you are using? For instance, a 70x70mm lens will have a focused dot of .016mm (depending on what chart I look at) while a 200x200mm lens will have a focused dot of .031mm. Using a line Space setting of 0.025 for both lenses will have the 200x200 hatching overlapping by 0.006mm, whereas with the 70x70 lens will have a .009mm gap between the hatching lines. Possibly insignificant, but if someone is using a 300x300mm lens with a focused dot of .050mm that could be a substantial difference. Or a matter of inconsequential differences?
    So I guess my question is, should that Line Space setting match the size of the focused dot of the lens you are using for best (more uniform?) results?
    edit: I had the figures reversed for the two lenses concerning overlap, and gap, so I corrected it. Duh....

    • @LaserEverything
      @LaserEverything  ปีที่แล้ว

      1st: Sounds like you have some double lines in your vector. Outlines that appear twice or line segments hiding behind complete shapes can totally throw off your hatch. Try opening your artwork in a vector editing program like AI or Inkscape and ungrouping everything all the way down. Start deleting things to see if there are hidden lines or shapes. If you ever think you had to hit the delete key twice to delete a piece, you probably did and there are likely two of them. A faster way would be converting your vector to a bitmap at a high resolution and then using the image trace feature to retrace the artwork which should resolve any doubles issues you're having.
      2nd: while you could set your workflow up so that you're always engraving perfectly spaced lines, in my work I've found a lot of materials really require the laser to hit the same spot multiple times in order to get a clean effective ablation. We use .025mm standard assuming it's necessary. I've had good luck with it but you aren't wrong with your assessment.

      Not much, some artificial limitations imposed in software. Contollers have some differences on how they handle extension axis controls but it's specific to the board. EzLite doesn't have any wobble and handles jump delays a little differently than Ez2. Most differences will be rectified with lightburn when released.
