    The most badass truck you can buy.

    Best review I have seen yet. My dealer said to use high octane, so I will research that. I also ordered the shorter wheel base and Torques front axle. I did not pay for graphics or anything that did not make it faster, more comfy, or better suited to me; so no carbon fiber trim and no sun roof. But everything else is there. The sound system has changed on my 2018, supposed to be better, it is better than my previous 2013 F150 Platinum -- the whole truck is WAY WAY better. Our trails and rough and narrow, the wideness is a bit of "take it slow" hindrance; but I do no mind battle scars. No big rattles like you had, yet. My average fuel mileage is 17 mixed -- interstate kills it above 65mph -- pushing lots of air.

    Very good review!
    I'm a gen 2 Raptor owner for 6 months now. Watched this for entertainment value and to pick up a thing or to I missed. A good review of the driving modes for me since I rarely use more than normal or sport mode.
    It is very true for me that I drive on pavement most of the time. In the Seattle area one must drive far to find 4x4 trails.
    I find the handling of the truck to be superior on the road. Especially in sport mode where weight transfer in turns can be more more controlled than in normal mode. That's because the transmission is programed to stay engaged on throttle down for engine braking. So moderation of the gas peddle in turns is more precise. I am comparing this to my other 1997 F150 Lariat, which is quite a bit different.
    One of the more profound statements in the video is about auto stop/start. I think that's more of an emotional issue for each person because a lot of people either like it or hate it. Personally I like it. It works flawlessly for me. If the windows are rolled up because I have the air conditioner on or the heater on then I can't even hear it functioning. The only way I know the engine shutdown is by the green icon that appears on the instrument panel and the RPM and oil pressure dropping to zero.
    I can only hear the engine start when the window is open and there is a curb, wall, or vehicle next to me to reflect the sound back into the Raptor. Outside the Raptor it sound like a normal start sequence so those outside the Raptor will hear the auto stop/start much more than those inside.
    A far as the speed at which the engine re=starts goes, the instant one starts to release brake pressure the engine is running. The engine RPM is back up to speed so fast I can't even call it actual starting, although that's what it is. It seems more like "On" and "Off." There is no prolonged cranking of the starter and then waiting for that. By the time my foot is off the brake peddle the engine is fully operational and ready to go. There is no delay. I've even tried to see if I could induce delay by switching my foot from the brake to the gas as fast as I can and I cannot beat the engine starting sequence and force a delay.
    Given, my Raptor has no issues or malfunctions so it works as designed. Once it gets older we shall see if the start/stop function continues to perform as well. So far at 3K on the odometer it works perfectly.
    I think the auto stop/start function has gotten a lot of bad press and it's become more of an emotional issue than a practical issue. Once someone decides they don't like that function there's not going to be anything anyone can do to change their mind. Unless of course there is a system malfunction. Then that would be understandable.
    IMO Ford has come a long way with the auto stop/start function and has gotten it perfected. Now what Ford really needs to do is just make the auto stop/start function undetectable by the driver and most all animosity would disappear. Of course, in order to do that it would have to freeze the tachometer and oil pressure indicator, but that would by kind of dishonest. But maybe that what the auto stop/start "Disable" button really does... Hmmmm... Okay, not.
    Anyway, thanks for the review.
    Bart

      Great review, this is one of the better ones on this truck (and I've seen just about all of them)

      Just a comment about stop/start since my 2015 F150, with 2.7 Ecoboost has it, it's NOT a big deal. You get used to it over time. And if it's not for you just push the big off button on the dash.
      At least made it easy to turn off....my wife and I recently test drove a BMW that required the driver to cycle through several display screens to turn it off.

    I prefer the previous Raptor with the 6.2 V8. The Ford dealers in my area are charging at least $10k above sticker for these trucks which are already too expensive IMO.

    Great review Sam! I'm sure you can get those "Raptor" stickers on eBay, probably like under 50 bucks, lol. But they do look cool though! F-150 Raptor, and Tacoma TRD Off Road are my fav trucks! Top sellers for a reason.

    The Raptor made pretty easy work of Butcher Jones vs the video you did of the TRD Off road Taco, as an example, but I wonder how this Hi-po 3.5 will stand the test of time. Also, it's a great desert runner, for a road like the Peralta trail, but the crew cab would have a tough time in more cozy confines. It's great for what it is, and it is unique, but I can't justify the cost. I'm sure you had fun with it just the same.

  • @porscheguy09
    @porscheguy09 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow, at about 1:41 into the video you can see that the tires are almost touching the steering knuckle. If you deflated the tires a little bit for off roading they'd probably rub the knuckle.

    I haven't driven the Raptor or F150, but in one article I've read the Raptor is very unstable in washboard roads. More importantly I was recently talking to forest rangers and they don't like the F150 either on washboard roads either. The F150 is the least favorite of the big 3 domestic pickups on dirt road rides. They also aren't enamoured with the aluminium use. Even aluminium ramps are wearing through the beds and short sticks bouncing up on the sides can crack the panels (personally saw that one.) It sounds to me like the back is just too light requiring shock valving that is so weak the rear axle looses contact with the ground over washboard roads. I just don't understand why the stability control wouldn't take care of that. Have you noticed this in your tests?

    • @T4nkcommander
      @T4nkcommander 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They had tire pressure at max...about fifty pounds, as opposed to recommended of 38. Ford has gone down as low as 22 in the back for events

    Ford ABSOLUTELY did the right thing, in regards to "raptor" graphics and obnoxious "F O R D" letters on tailgate. Most folks really don't want any of these huge brand stamps on their expensive trucks. Ram learned that lesson two years ago after receiving tons of negative responses regarding the "R A M" block letters, which replaced an understated, and familiar, ram's horn emblem. The look was NOT GOOD! Next gen ram trucks for 2019 have, supposedly, ditched the dorky oversized brand label for a more traditional ram's head emblem. we'll see....

    I started to giggle when Sam was putting the truck into "go" mode! I may be..I say I maybe getting older...I fact I'm pretty sure dirts got nothing on me, but in "my" days a guy simply pushed in the clutch, flipped the 4X4 stick into 4 wheel drive and then hit the gas peddle! But today? I just laugh at just how convenience today's 4 wheel drive systems are...NOT!

    Here in California, typical greedy selfish money hungry Ford Dealers are charging 30k over MSRP. FOR you average Joe, is just out of their reach. I for example, never pay MSRP for any vehicle, unless is a high desire car and retains its value, but pay over? $50k is for the basic raptor, I have $15k for down payment and I can finance the rest. It would be high, but I can do it, but dealers are greedy people. Now, I would get a normal F150, but with the Raptor length, Supercab with 5 foot bed. The 6 foot would not fit in my garage. I just need a small bed plus I hate long trucks.

      Flylo FM I bought my gen 2 Raptor a month ago and they have knocked it outta the park to use a old term. I am & die hard Chevy guy but the new Raptor has changed my outlook. I'll pass on every other Ford out there & I'd take a Silverado. All this from a guy that has a Linked Luxury Silverado prerunner as his daily before I bought my Raptor. For all our speed thru the desert the raptor can't touch my Silverado but that is about it, the Raptor excels above the Chevy in every other category.
      I scoffed at the idea of owning a Raptor laughed at em (Gen1 anyways) but not anymore. If you don't consider the Gen 2 in your looking for a truck your cheating yourself out of a truly great vehicle.
