Man, when Allison drops down to the inside with 3 laps to go challenging Earnhardt for the lead, the roar of the crowd is profound. I forgot how popular Davey was, a true challenger to the Man in Black. I am so thankful I was a fan during a true golden age of this sport.
Davey broke his hand after the race when he punched the wall of his hauler. He wanted to beat Earnhardt so bad especially at his hometown but he needed the help from the other Ford cars to get by him.
Not one iPhone and not one mask in that crowd of 100,000. Life was easy and appreciated. I was 20 and took every day for granted. NASCAR racing is dead these days. Thank God for VCR’s.
I know your comment is a year old, but I feel the exact same way. I was a month short of my 21st birthday and never thought this awesome racing changing. I watched this race while I worked in my shop today on an old tube TV using a digital to analog converter. It makes me feel like it’s live. Sometimes I get so caught up I forget it’s not.
Cameras back then seem to keep the signal very strong, no interruptions. Also, the awesome views from the front air dam of Davey Allison's car makes for fun close racing shots. That needs to be brought back.
Ya, now you get Pete's Triple Knot String, ask for it by name. Well, maybe not that bad yet, but pretty damn close! I'm more excited for Indy tomorrow than the 600. "Go Jimmy! In yer perty pink numbered Ally weight loss machine"! Said no one ever!! So soy. Bring back the men to race chariots of fire!! Ya, i'm a lil pissed that NASCAR is shit right now. 🤨
Awesome. Do you have the '91 Michigan 400 where Allison and Earnhardt fought it out for 30 straight laps and they were storming ten lengths deeper into the turns than anyone else?
Now it's the other way around. I'll take a power nap during the NASCAR race, watch the final laps, then switch over to golf for the back nine as the leaders battle it out down the stretch.
I like what Rusty Wallace and Felix Sabates said at around the 11:25 mark. I listened to Irvan's interview after he caused that wreck at Talladega (where Mark Martin almost flipped and Kyle Petty got a broken leg) and he blamed everyone else but himself.
Dale Earnhardt always dominated Talladega but in 1990 and 1991 no one could touch him 3 wins and a third (Harry Gant won the race on Gas Mileage) he lead 454 of 752 laps 60%, quite simply he owned Talladega.
@@slickchick5811 Lol. Absolutely truth. Earnhardt only has one significant record on the books, on his own. Most wins at Talladega, most with restrictor plates. 100% truth.
If I may make a request could you put the 1992 Hooters 500 up if you have it. I have been trying to find the full race everywhere and can't and I figured you would probably be the most likely to have it. Anyway thank you for posting these old NASCAR races.
Compared to today's racing at Talledega & Daytona, this looks safer because of the lack of constant pack racing. In my opinion, last year's (2022) race at Atlanta's newly newly configured track made it a more exciting race than Talledega & Daytona.
Probably 85 to 95 were the best years to be a nascar fan. In this race sterling Marlins Jack man got hurt and the car owner junior Johnson took over the Jack man duties😎......you’d never see this kind of thing happen today. The cars looked the best and sounded the best and had some of the best drivers and teams from the past and present racing head to head. You had teams like petty enterprises when they were still competitive along with teams like junior Johnson’s, Digard and Childress and then you had new teams like Hendrick, Gibbs, Penske, Yates and Roush trying to make a splash in cup. All the current team powerhouse owners started in that era 😉
He could be annoying at times especially when he, Squier and Ned were in the booth together. But hey he was and still is a million miles better than the annoying ones that call the races on NBC the last half of the year since 2015.
I can understand that Ernie Irvan was probably a bit too agitated at the time, and '91 was still relatively early in his Winston Cup career. He had only been in WC for 3 or 4 years, if I remember correctly. But to have the wisdom to take the microphone, apologize, and acknowledge his bad behavior, humbly, I found it quite moving. It must not have been easy, especially when you see Rusty Wallace not applauding, which might suggest he wasn't necessarily in agreement. 13:54 No way, am I dreaming or what? I just realized that we could hear the drivers explaining their strategy or communicating with the pit crew 100 times better back in the day compared to today in 2024 with the technology we have, lol. I swear, compare Ken Schrader talking to Ken Squire back then and Larson communicating with the pit crew today, and you'll see the astronomical difference.
We appreciate your personal opinion. Too bad the stats and data prove otherwise. 17th in winning percentage, 8th in wins, 1 Daytona 500 under caution, tied with two others for Championships. He only has one significant record, on his own, on the books, most wins at Talladega. That's it.
Ervin handled that press conference the way a professional should a class act nascar needs more drivers like this again its full of spoiled rich kids now
I was at this race, Earnhardt went out in the last practice on Saturday and got up to speed in about 2 laps went into turn 3 turned under about 5 or 6 ford's that was drafting together and dale went from top to the bottom right in middle of 3 and 4 and when he come off turn 4 he pulled up in front of them and went back to the bottom and backed off and went to the garage, they put a tarp on it. The rest of cars kept on practicing and dale left the track, everybody knew that was there you wasn't gonna beat Earnhardt, no way in hell. Nobody in that track had the balls to make that move , much less pass 5 cars doing it. Seriously
I think that's why Davey broke his hand after the race and got out of his car and punched the side of his hauler. He was so mad that his "Ford teammates" didn't help him get passed Earnhardt at the end. Earnhardt's Stranglehold on the sport pretty much came to an end after the 91 season. Yeah he won his last two championships in 93 and 94 but other teams like Yates, Roush and of course Hendrick started to make winning and dominating races and championships more difficult for Big E and Childress.
NASCAR fans today would be bitching so hard about how unbeatable Earnhardt was. Once he took the lead it was game over, he would pass anyone at will. The conspiracy theories would be in full force.
And then there was something powerful at the time when the black demon raced by at full speed. In the last three laps, you could hear the crowd screaming with joy. It was crazy. From a personal point of view, if NASCAR wants to maintain the excitement of the 80s and 90s, they should go back to using cars like the Chevy Lumina, Ford Thunderbird, Buick Regal, Oldsmobile Cutlass, Pontiac Grand Prix, and Buick LeSabre. They should also bring back the Chrysler Mopar cars. Additionally, they need to add flaps to prevent cars from flipping like what happened to Rick Mast at 02:51:16. They should keep the look and especially the paint schemes from that era. Nowadays, it feels like they took a pigeon, stuffed it, and then threw colorful paint tubes at the cars to create a scheme. Seriously, safety is important, but at what cost? Also, today's drivers lack class and personality. I'm sorry, but even Kyle Busch, when I see him, I feel like the fans, the people annoy him, like he's fed up with talking to people about racing. Honestly, I love NASCAR, even today I watch it, but I have to force myself. That's the problem. I force myself, thinking, "You never know, there might be a cool event," and I don't want to miss it. But then, we watch today's races, and after 2 or 3 hours, we're like, "Damn, this is boring." Twenty-five yellow flags, cars finishing as new and in good condition as when they started... In the end, thank goodness for TH-cam and Smiff TV uploading the best NASCAR races ever.
I remember watching this live back then,, was totally disgusted with how the Ford's had that p.o.s. enrfart, and let him win..... They never really worked together well, Yates, Roush, and Bud Moore, all raced each other as hard as the other brands...
Man, when Allison drops down to the inside with 3 laps to go challenging Earnhardt for the lead, the roar of the crowd is profound. I forgot how popular Davey was, a true challenger to the Man in Black. I am so thankful I was a fan during a true golden age of this sport.

Horseshit take dude, nobody thinks like that.
Ned Jarrett was a different kinda broadcaster on CBS then he was with ESPN. How excited was Ned all through this race. God I loved him
How nice it would be to have a time machine..........

I dunno… 1991 is kind of a painful time for me (Buffalo sports fan) lol
My favorite era in Winston Cup....ah the memories!
this is my kind of racing, old school
I really really love these old Nascar racing a whole whole lot
it's a pure pleasure to re watch this races of time with the intro it's very great
Great race... Bobby Hillin Jr.. had best car today (Kyle Petty #42)! Bobby needed 5 more laps for 2nd Telladaga win...
Love the old satellite message. Telstar 301 Moving Dish. I remember watching with my dad on the old dishes. Thanks.

i realize I am kind of off topic but do anyone know a good site to stream newly released tv shows online ?
@Franklin Drake Lately I have been using Flixzone. You can find it on google =)
@Keagan Kieran definitely, I have been watching on Flixzone for years myself :)
@Keagan Kieran Thank you, I went there and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :D I appreciate it !!
Miss this era!
I remember the 1991 DieHard 500 on CBS, and that was only because of the flip that Rick Mast was involved in. That was a harsh crash!
Awesome.

Good old days, win on Sunday, sell like hotcakes on Monday. Ford Chevy and Pontiac.
Earnhardt owned this track. He was unbeatable.
Yea after they put the elliott plate on to let him catch up to bill
Earnhardt owned talladega he was the master of that track
Daytona and Atlanta too
U know it ❤
It’s wild - of the 41 drivers with 485 victories between them, near on half of those victories are Richard Petty’s alone. What a champion.
That was the week before J.D. McDuffie's accident at Watkins Glen.
don't forget, the greater Hartford open is next. guess for all those people got worked up over all the exciting racing and need naps now.

"There is nothing to those rumors" - Ha Ha Ha Ha
I was there in the infield 4th turn awesome race
Fantastic quality!
Ken Shrader had some of the fastest cars but terrible luck. A really good guy too.
He deserved more than 4 winston cup series victories in his career.
At least one of the top 20 videos on TH-cam .. if you don't know you just don't know
Davey Allison broke his hand after punching the side of his rig after this race.
