My Ancestors fought in the British Army in the Revolutionary war with America and in the Napoleonic wars. All were Guardsmen in the Grenadiers. Although I am Australian I am immensely proud of my English Military heritage thanks ever so much for posting this as I never to get to see it out here. I am a big fan of ceremonial drill and NO one does it better than the Guards Division.
I am an American and I have much love and respect for the British tradition. I watch Trooping the Colour every year. I really love the American military tunes in the program this year, wonderfully played! Thanks for sharing! : )
I am an American and though I may not speak for the rest of my nation. I do believe that the Trooping of the Colors is the most amazing thing that I have ever had the pleasure to watch. It shouldn't matter what side of the pond you are on. It is a beautiful ceremony. I do love the addition of the American military music. I pray that one day if I ever get to visit the UK that I get to see this in person.
As an American, allow me to say that it is quite an event to watch. I enjoyed watching the Trooping of the Colour, I only wish we did more ceremonial things like this in the United States and showed our heritage and pride in our armed forces
And women, my daughter is one. The Household Cavalry equitation course is said to be one of the most demanding in the Army, then they have to play their instruments too.
This all look so Splendid & resplendent, see Beating Retreat, India on YT, When I was child I always used to think How I will feel when I will preside over those magnificent ceremonies as President of India & live in 340 room Palace (I am still in early 20s) Now when I see this I feel how British children can Imagine that, how hard they work & how much smarter they are than princes they can't be King or Queen. India is also Westminster sys. like UK. We have PM as real exe. & Presi. as cere. head
Greetings from USA. I must say, Prince harry was SLOUCHING in the coach. He could take a few lessons on posture from good old Prince Philip! Nice show! Thanks from posting.
Great work as usual RedSquirrelCrossing ^^ I was wondering where I could find the complete coverage o the Diamond Jubilee Thanksgiving Service at Saint Paul's Cathedral since I've only been able to find highlights ;-)
Can someone tell me why Verdi's world-famous Slave Chorus from his opera Nabucco is played (perfectly by the Massed bands) at 32:25? Why this selection at this event?
@shahartley : Prince willliam was appointed a royal colonel of the irish guards. prince harry however is only a captain, so he does not ride the horses
Notice that the drummer beating the drummer's call at circa 49:06 is using an old-fashioned rope-tensioned, brass-shelled drum of the type that was standard issue until the late 1950's early 60's. Can anyone explain this anomaly? I love the deep resonance and lower pitch of these old drums.
Remember that the Queen use to ride a horse during the Trooping, but because of her age stopped. When was the last time that she rode a horse during the Trooping
Two choruses of the Marines Hymn preceded by Anchors Away and an excerpt from Semper Fidelis-written by a Marine, for Marines. These U.S. sea service marches chosen specifically, I wonder, or did General Norton just prefer them them musically? I hope there was a U.S. Marine and/or sailor of appropriate rank for the occasion present, standing tall to acknowledge the tribute, and that the camera just chose not to show them.
I really respect theses guys. Soldiers who can march and parade BUT also are battle hardened. British soldiers are some of the best. They aren't just eye candy for the United Kingdom.
From 35:41 to 35:59, I've noticed that many of the mounted cavalry's horses heads are moving up and down continuoulsy. I don't really know anything about his particular equine behaviour, why do they do this? Are those bits in their mouths irritating them?
Till you, you know, remember that this also generated a fuckton of money in media and tourism. Not to mention the dicipline this requires builds these lads to be some of the best soldiers in the world.
It is a little bit confusing that "Chorus of Hebrew Slaves" from Verdi is played when the Queen arrives. It has a flair of sarcasm and ironie, as i think O.o =D
I enjoy watching the trooping of the colour and it certainly demonstrates how the UK are able to display ceremony in a way other countries can't even dream. I must however object to some of the commentary where serving in Northern Ireland is referred to almost as a foreign war zone. Why is it relevant in this day and age in the UK to refer to serving in Northern Ireland?
Queen Elisabeth is such a nice person, i'd like to sit down and have a cup of tea with her. Thanks for playing a couple of our military songs in your parade. I wish we'd celebrate the presidents birhday like you british people celebrate your queen's birthday.
I think you forget its significance, it was actually performed for the royal family as a suprise first off by the guards as a birthday present as all regiments would do this anyway (trooping the colour is how they made sure their men recognised the flag and rally point). This has nothing to do with celebrating imperialism, it was and still is a a birthday present from the guards division.
Well...the commentator got it somewhat right this year....he says @ 29:23 that "the National Anthem"....(then very quickly he says)..."the Royal Salute" will be played. Can't ask for more than that I guess...
To further enforce your point, The royal family also donate around 100 million pounds per year directly to the UK, as per the reestablishment, they must donate all profits from the royal grounds, in return for all expenses paid by the government, if we got rid of the royal family, they keep the profit and actually would be better off, get more money for less work. This money lowers everyones taxes by around £1.30PA.
If there is anyone who can out perform the Lime Juicers on the parade ground, I would like to see it. Been there, seen the rehearsal twice and the real thing once in the 1960s. It tears me apart to read media accounts of the government gutting the forces. Has no one ever read the works of Rudyard Kipling?
god bless all your lads but understand the world dont revole around the us. we are close to you .but understand we o it our way .we have been doing this way for 350 years my regiment brit army
The Chinese National Day parade is in fact more colossal and the Chinese soldiers march in more strict manner. But the Trooping the Colour is somehow more splendid, more beautiful and more elegant.
because the looser manner shows they are still human, these are trained military soldiers here, who chose what they do, not forced into it. and thus its more splendid because its more loose and its authentic love for there country
But Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II has earned the respect of the people of Britain, the Commonwealth and many people all over the world during her 60 years on the throne.
doghard I was wondering why the Brits did not honor by song the Army, America's premier fighting force, instead of the Army's Transportation Service ( Anchors Aweigh ) and the Navy's Rifle Boys ( Marine Hymn ). It is indeed a mystery. Are the Brits jealous of our Army as well ?

Hello from the United States. Including us in your celebration was wonderful. Thank you.
I don't know why, but I really like the field officer's drill voice in this trooping...
I have always wanted to see the full Trooping the Color. Thank You!
As an American, allow me to say that it is quite an event to watch. I enjoyed watching the Trooping of the Colour, I only wish we did more ceremonial things like this in the United States and showed our heritage and pride in our armed forces
Lovely. What a glorious birthday celebration. Very uplifting. God Save the Queen!

Loved the American marching tunes this year.
I hope to add that soon when I have some time.
thank you for upload
Very brave of you standing amongst all those horses. When the King's Troop take off I panic even watching.
Fantastic Drill, especially the arm swing by the Escort to the Colour, Coldstream Guards!
Thank you so much.
i was on that..proudest moment in my life
And women, my daughter is one. The Household Cavalry equitation course is said to be one of the most demanding in the Army, then they have to play their instruments too.
Wonderful, beautiful Trooping

Beautiful! ♥♥
Le problème est appelé "tampon". Cela se produit généralement si votre vitesse de connexion Internet est lente.
I failed to find a military band version. I did find "The Marenghi Fairground Organ" version on amazon.
Her Majesty has earned our respect everyday that she reigns. We are very proud of her and ashamed of our politicians.

That's a LOT of guards for (1) person. I remember reading that when the queen visited some country she had 8,000, count 'em 8,000, bodyguards. Wow.
Can someone tell me why Verdi's world-famous Slave Chorus from his opera Nabucco is played (perfectly by the Massed bands) at 32:25? Why this selection at this event?
HM The Queen last rode in the ceremony in 1986.
@shahartley : Prince willliam was appointed a royal colonel of the irish guards. prince harry however is only a captain, so he does not ride the horses

Would love to see HM go to trooping the colour in uniform one last time
thanks :D
Why not!! It's good music.x
I don't follow what you mean. Is the video replay causing a problem for you?
I really respect theses guys. Soldiers who can march and parade BUT also are battle hardened. British soldiers are some of the best. They aren't just eye candy for the United Kingdom.

Long Live the Immortal Queen!!!

Bellissima esecuzione del "Va pensiero" di G. Verdi. A CHENT'ANNOS!
Whose waist or do you mean waste?
At 26:10, why was there a Life Guards officer attached to the Blues & Royals?
If your next ceremonial duty is in Stratford I hope you are rewarded well - lol.
And she is still the head of state because many people respect her and she represents the country well!
Actually, yes it can. She is related to King Edward I, otherwise known as st. Edward the confessor. That is why it does come from birth.
God save te Queen
Greetings from Mexico.

This, coming from a Frenchman, is EPIC.
Cheers.
After the Scots Guards, last year, and the Grenadier Guards, the year before, I am happy to see the Coldstream Guards trooping once again.

I'd love to see Australian and Canadian regiments marching alongside the British. That would be a glorious day!
I thought the guy @ 4:06 was William.
Same here.

Yes, or be invited.

good
He probably sits inside a BBC Outside Broadcast lorry wearing headphones and holding a microphone.
Only appointed Royal Colonels ride behind in the procession. Prince Harry has yet to be appointed Royal Colonel of a regiment.

Maybe when William is king they might actually have Trooping the Colour on his real birthday since he was born in June.
Do people celebrate the president's birthday?

I doubt if you are better.

I'm an American, and I support the British monarchy!

On behalf of respectful and educated Americans, I apologize. Not all of us are morons. I love the tradition that surrounds the royalty.
doghard
