    I'm from Beijing. I've always wondered why the government looked the other way and kept it open (believe it or not selling knockoffs is not legal in China...). Yes you can find numerous small shops selling knockoffs but rarely in a multi-storey building like this - it almost feels like a themed mall. Then a group of friends from U.S. came to visit and asked for this place. Apparently this has become a rather bizzare tourist attraction for foreigners...

    • @junosugi7466
      @junosugi7466 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, a lot of tourists go there, maybe some are taken there as a Beijing tourist visit. It's A famous place to visit in Beijing. I sometimes saw coaches lined up outside and groups of people entering. Personally, I always avoided that place, it gave me a headache from being so harassed. Sometimes the sellers even grab you as you are passing. There are different scams in Beijing, like people coming up and asking where you are from. It sounds friendly, but they are trying to take you to a tea place or an 'art place' where they try to cheat you and make you pay a lot of money. You really have to be careful, many tourists are taken for a ride and lose a lot of money.

My parents went to Thailand and experienced it. Since they spoke fluent thai however, the vendor suddenly got friendly and thought they were Thai people so he said that he would give them the normal price(it was much cheaper). Some hotels require a passport identification though so the prices there can get jacked up too.

    Bartering can be really boring and the whole point of dressing up and experiencing bartering or haggling is so you get to interact and socialise with people and get a response and reaction until both parties end up being happy about an agreed price. If people don’t like haggling then that’s why some people prefer e-commerce where they just search through a website catalogue and get what they are looking for and get the fark out. Otherwise “window shopping” can get either really pleasant or nasty depending on the interaction.

    Lmao this guy thinks he's getting 90% off but doesn't realize how much they jack up the price from the beginning seeing that he's a foreigner. Even the 350 yuan offer for that winter jacket is absurdly high, he's forgetting how extremely cheap the shop owners get it for.

    Even in Singapore back in 2004, I was told first that a Hitachi video camera was $4500 initially, then down to $2500 for which I got it.
    The next day, I happened to see the same item selling for $2500 for its original price on a singaporean newspaper. I was so upset and went back to him, and he ended up refunding me $700.
    I told him that he should be thankful that I did not report him to the police only because he told me the day before that he had a young son to support.
    Another woman along a river shop also told me an old and run-down chinese clothes was $10,000 which was a very big money then, and even now.
    I wonder why some chinese lie so much to a degree of unbelievability and ruin the Chinese reputation.

    Bargaining and haggling doesn’t just exist in these Asian markets, it can be done in the uk as well! As someone who’s Chinese I watched my mother haggle 2 keys from some old guy for 5 pounds to 1 pound for 2 keys just by leaving and coming around later and asking again. After watching all these haggling vids I’ll actually try the next time I have time to go to the market

Actually, this happens in other places in Beijing too (except for the big stores where prices are marked) but Silk Street is famous for this.

    In my experience with my country chinese community, they are really nicer after you know them longer👍and they love to give discount to their frequent costumers😁but the first time entering their shop are sometimes kinda frightening for me..

    What many people don’t realise is that very many of these brands are actually made in China and that many of these shops are actually selling the real thing from the factories. They are only meant to sell to the internal market but will get more for them from foreigners. My son lived and ran two schools there for 10 years. We got to know where the genuine shops were.

    I think it's because they suspectex that he was a foreigner and they wouldn't have guessed that he lived in China so they raised the prices more expecting him not knowing how to bargain. So they took this as an oppurutntiy to take advantage of him and sell the clothing at a higher price than if they were selling to a Chinese customer nevertheless this guy was an absolute pro at bargaining!
