Really good video! I have had my Pittsburgh jack for 6 years. I have also used it for other uses. Example: pulling out 4x4 fence post. I picked up the jack and slid down over the 4x4 post. Then I drilled a horizontal hole in the post and put a stick of rebar through. And jacked her up. It was a lot easier than digging in the hard ground. Jack held up great!

I have one of these. I don’t use it. Have not used it for 20 over years. It’s in the way no matter which side you put it on if you are working on the Engine, the clutch, the starter, the slave cylinder, the stater, the starter, the jacking mechanism has to go somewhere, it’s either on the left or the right, and it always seems to be in the way even if I’m working on the other side of the engine.. you can’t even change the oil in most motorcycles using this Jack because it’s where the oil pan Hass to go and you don’t have access to the drain plug a lot of times or the oil filter because this thing is in the way..
The fact that it is on wheels makes for it to be unstable. You have to use straps, and they are in the way a lot of the time..
this store is more useful for working on four wheel vehicles like lawnmowers or quads, and even then, it’s in the way on one side or the other..
I find that the motorcycle scissor lift Jack, that is how you search for that part on eBay is just about the best I have seen. I have a video of it on my channel actually holding up my Yamaha royal star venture while I have the front wheel off. It weighs about 28 pounds, and it is completely under the motorcycle. It has two adjustable saddles that you can place directly under the frame on both sides.. I discovered these jacks that I am recommending while watching a TH-cam video of a company called TRAXXION dynamics well they had the front end off of a GL 1800 gold one. A 900+ pound motorcycle. I’ve been using mine for three years now, it’s completely out of the way, even if you want to pull the engine.. it cost under $70 last time I checked on eBay with free shipping..
i’m sure the Jack in this video has its uses, but I’ve had mine since the 1990s, and the two times that I did use it, it was a pain in the ass because I was afraid I was gonna knock my bike over. It was never stable and I had to use lots of straps..In fact, mine has only been used twice, I would sell it for $25 to get it out of my garage. it’s been standing on end behind my welder since the 1990s gathering dust..It is a craftsman brand, same design

Awesome review . When comparing to very similar products the cost usually favors the cheapest in my opinion .The Pittsburgh brand has done me right for many years . Unless the J&S jack was superior in many ways i can't see myself paying 5 times the cost for basically similar functions and outcome . Thank you sir for sharing. Pete.

J&S has a lead time of 6+ months right now.
I ordered March 23, 2022. Was told delivery in 12-14 weeks. As of August 23, 2022, I have no jack, no idea when it will show up, no response to my email inquiry (website asks for email over phone call) and I'm out of 1099$ as it stands right now.
And I'm not alone with my experience. Read the FB page or Google reviews.
Keep that in mind when you come to the decision point to order J&S or go elsewhere .

Very good video, thank you. Regarding the HF jack and rolling, lubrication is our friend. My 12 year old HF jack passed on to my son has been left out in the rain as sons do, and rolls like a dream.
Just turn it upside down, drip a little oil on the axles and the ball bearings for the castors. Then the best part: Squeeze some #00 grease into the races for the bearings. #00 grease is also called "Cotton Picker Grease" and using it there makes a huge difference. I get it at Tractor Supply. Regular grease may do the same thing, but I use #00 in many places.

I have a Pittsburg jack and it works quite well. The important thing with these jacks is to give them a thorough inspection before you use them. Sometimes they are sent out with little or no fluid in them. I always use automatic transmisson fluid in mine. Also check all the bolts and welds to make sure they are tight and up to par.

Excellent presentation. I just bought the lift, now it's $130. I think they changed the jack to if you raile the platform without pressing the pedal to lower, it lowers by itself anyway. It stops on one of the three positions. So to lower, one would raise the jack a bit, disengage the safety bar and not press the pedal, it will lower slowly, or press the pedal and control the decent.

Great review, I was looking at the J&S video and yours came up in the side window... The J&S website now states 8 to 12 weeks for delivery, and price is close to $740.00 with shipping even with a 10% discount for black Friday.. Without the discount I'm paying $800. Not sure I can rationalize that even though I really try and avoid HF stuff... I have a HF store 10 minutes from my home (doesn't everyone) so not having to wait 3 months to get my jack is also a factor.. I have used many jacks over the years. I bought a J&S last year because my ex-HF jack wasn’t sturdy enough to lift my GoldWing safely for my comfort. It could have been my imagination but it was too wobbly for my liking. I am ok with the HF jack for my Electra Glide, but my son has it now. I know the J&S is pricey, but it is worth every penny in my opinion. If you’re a vet, J&S gives a discount. I think they state 5%, but I got 10% off when I called them. I would suggest waiting for their free shipping sales, if they still offer that. The reason it’s taking 8 to 12 weeks is because they are having a supply issue getting steel if I remember correctly. I also spoke to Steve a few times. Great guy! I had to wait a few months too.

Think about putting a 2x6 under the kickstand, so when the bike goes down or lowered from the jack it want lean as far. Also if the jack is released to fast will help with the sudden drop of the bike.

I have both. The Pittsburgh Jack t-handle broke off at the mount where the t-handle slides into it, in part because of the extra force it takes to move it with a bike lifted on it. You’re right about the Harbor Freight Pittsburgh wheels being not so great. I welded the T-handle mount up and reinforced it and it functions just fine again. Is the J&S better? Absolutely. Does the additional cost and wait time justify the difference in quality? In my humble opinion… Nope. I went ahead and bought the red full size harbor freight motorcycle lift when they were on sale for about half the price of my j&s. Best money spent in terms of convenience to work on your bikes. Unfortunately, bigger footprint in the garage though.
    Great comparison video.

I purchased an unbranded jack in 2004 to lift my 2004 Harley Davidson Fatboy, in an eBay auction, I bid $59.00 on that jack and won bid on the jack. It has served me well. I now lift my 2007 Harley Davidson Fatboy with this jack, no problems. It also has anchor points on each leg for tie down straps, I sometimes use them to steady the motorcycle. The only detractor I have found is getting the lift bars centered between the frame rails side to side. When there is at least some lift bar exposed on each side of the motorcycle, then it can be safely lifted. I will be using my jack soon, as I will be replacing the compensator with an compensator eliminator gear kit, and inspecting the cam chain hydraulic tensioners for excessive wear. The bike has 46K on it.

This is my first time viewing your channel. I must say this was a very good comparison between the two jacks. I have been using the HF Pittsburg jack roughly 4 years under 3 Harleys. There is one thing about the HF jack that is heads and tails above the J&S: (This will surprise you) The dropping ease and lowering speed is perfect! HF doesn't tell you this but, If you mash that lowering pedal down quickly and firmly it will GREATLY reduce the speed of the valve opening and thus lower the jack jus as smooth and slow as silk!
Please Test Me! Just lift the bike 1/2 way to the first lock and slam that pedal down. You won't believe your eyes.
My buddy has the "Big Red" it works the same way as the J&S. We have dropped his Sportster twice and his SGS once during lowering. Now he borrows my HF jack. No faith in the Big Red any longer.
I watched this video in considering an upgrade. Nope, My next jack upgrade will be a table lift. I will stick with the el ceepo HF jack!
Great video! Very well thought out and love that you don't have background "Musick" annoying your audience. Subscription is earned! Thank You!

I have that same Jack I bought it in 2008. I’ve had many jacks over the years. And you must put the locks on it. Set it down on the locks that makes the bike a lot more stable. My bike sits like that all winter I will run around. I’ve also climbed up on it. Also, that is a family owned company American company with a lifetime warranty. All but the jack the bottle jack they don’t give you a lifetime warranty on that. I don’t know what they want for now but they were $32. So I need my bike jacked up off the ground all winter. A good thing to do is spray the piston with some fluid fill or WD-40 so it doesn’t. Rust over the winter. And if you have used any type of jacks, you don’t turn them wide open to set your car down or your bike or anything else like that. Q what’s up man

Great comparison. I am bias. I have used the $139.99 1500 lb Harbor Freight Pittsburb Chinese jack on my 900 lb Harley Road King for a year. It is what it is and has never failed or fooled me. The foot pad hydraulic cylinder release is far less dangerous than having to reach your hand down to floor level, into sizzor mechanisms and manipulate a release valve. A gentle control with your foot on the release valve pedal allows a very smooth decent as you hold the handlebar and seat to steady the decent onto the tires and side stand. 12 pumps of the lift pedal raises my bike to the first lock and both wheels off the ground. I keep the lock engaged and the pump cylinder under slight, moderate pressure while the bike is lifted. I can elevate the entire bike to the first, second and third safety lock as well as position the jack to elevate just the front or just the rear wheel, with the bike stable. If your forget to deploy the side stand on any similar jack, your bike will be on the ground during the decent, so don't ever forget to deply the side stand on any jack. Safety straps will give you a sense of added safety. I've cranked my bike and even put it in gear to check the drive belt. The jack has never faultered. If it ever does, it will be due to my lack of attention to safe operation. Having said all that, I am with your 100% on only getting what you pay for, but a $900.oo jack is not for me. You'll never check out of WalMart without some Chinese stuff, likely made by cheap labor. Thanks for your smooth way of teaching.

I've had my harbor freight jack for about 15 years. It's the next level up and they still sell it in a different color for ~$200. I have never had an issue with it, but have to squirt some oil in the casters periodically. As for the cost, Pittsburgh is a Harbor Freight brand. Harbor Freight has their own factory in China for some products and contracts others out. They are handling the entire supply chain themselves, keeping the costs down.
