    _"In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so."_ - Anton Ego

      As soon as you create anything at all and watch it get judged, you're immediately aware of the average critic being the creator of nothing

    I'm Brazilian, and I believe we suffer a lot from this. That's because piracy was a significant factor in the country, especially during the PS2 and Xbox 360 era, when anyone could go to a small neighborhood shop and buy 4 games for 20 reais (the currency in Brazil). However, with the end of that practice, the PS4 and Xbox One generation became scarcer, as people would have to pay 300-350 reais for each game. I believe that, in my country's case, this justifies the need for reviews and analyses before buying a game. It REALLY has to be worth it. With that, we can't have little to no information before buying a game, which is sad, because I agree with the point you're trying to make.

    Commenting this before watching the video because the thumbnail reminded me of a time before I knew the level at which diamond in MC spawned at. The awe I used to have when coming across a vein, the hours I'd pour into the game after that just to find one more is now and almost forever lost to me. I want that back so, so badly. The first time playing Skyrim on my PS3 and being lost in the world can never be replicated. The first legendary gun I got in BL2 can never be found again. The first time I got an exotic to drop in Destiny will never happen again. Not because I literally can't do those things for the first time again, but that I can't do those things again in a new game I play all because I know how games work. I have gamified the games. I have turned them into the processes and calculations they truly are behind the pixels. In my quest to become better at games, I have taken the game out of itself and it has made me worse at what games were designed for: Having fun with them. I miss not knowing the level diamonds spawn at.

    I agree completely. I'm about 40 hours into Dragon Age: The Veilguard, despite being hesitant from what I had heard. I'm not done yet, but I've been having a blast with the game. It's a little slow to start, but once the ball gets rolling, it's hard to not enjoy it. Goes to show how other people's opinions don't matter when it comes to games. The only one that matters is your own, and the only way to truly know if you'll enjoy something is if you actually play it.

      Watched my gf play it without knowing anything, the voiceacting was cheese but at least gave a laugh, and the combat(magic in specific) was actually pretty mesmerising

    I really like that you made this video, this technique is something I've figured out in the past year or two and has been literally game changing. I've found that I like a lot more games and types of things that I previously would have just shrugged off and I think that a lot of people could benefit from utilizing it. good on you for putting this out there!

    Keep going man. This is exactly what I want for more people to think like this. I too used to watch piece of media based on ratings. But, there was a time when I watched 'The Shining' & I didn't like it, I hated it a lot. And that is when I started approaching the media on the basis of how much I am excited for it. I watch the trailer and promotional content by the studio itself & then ask myself whether I am eager to consume that or not & then make the decision.

    I made this experience the other day playing Blade & Sorcery. I haven't played it in a year or two, and they had recently added a bit of a progression system. I went in blind, just to see how it is, and the thrill of unexpectedly standing in an arena to fight a boss at the end of one of the dungeons was something I haven't had in gaming in a while.

    The way I see it, most triple A games aren't that good these days, but you can always find good indie games every year and multiple times per year. There's always an indie dev with a good idea working on their own personal project. So games in general are definitely still good. I've got so much choice that I'll probably not manage to get through my list before I die.

    games are more fun and have more playtime if people stopped looking up guides for every little thing and tried to play the game as intended. Its a lot easier to immerse yourself in the world of your game if you stop looking outside of it for information.

    • @SackoYT
      @SackoYT  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @slainthemaid Absolutely. Guides should only come into play when you've played enough of the game to need it when stuck, or wanna improve.

    I went into FF7: Rebirth with high expectations due to how amazing Remake was and I was severely let down. I think if I just played the main story quests and the green icon side quests and ignored the open world in full, that the game would be good. However, that's an issue as well where I have to ignore a, literal, large portion of the game for the overall game to not be ruined for me

    When you game deving what engine do you use? I kind of been bouncing back and forth with easy fps and gzdoom, been thinking of giving unreal another chance.

    • @SackoYT
      @SackoYT  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @orca1361 Depends on the type of project, honestly. For retro shooters, gzdoom and easy fps are great for rapid development. Otherwise, I may use either unity, gdevelop or godot for a project. At least, that's the long-term plan anyway.
      I wouldn't get too worked up on which engine to use. Just use whatever has the best workflow for you.

    • @orca1361
      @orca1361 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @SackoYT alright got ya. My problem is I have so many ideas I have trouble deciding on what to do. Some ideas could be boomer shooters or early 2000's style shooters or I want to make a soulslike, I end up bouncing to different engines and just make a half baked prototypes

    • @SackoYT
      @SackoYT  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @orca1361 Downsize the scale of your project. Think more about just completing a fleshed out level rather than a full game. Fleshing out the level also means building a template around it that you can repeat for additional content. So if you complete one level, the next one won't take as long.

    • @orca1361
      @orca1361 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SackoYT Ok, I'll start doing that. Also can I get your opinion on my ideas? I will say my three main ideas for a game is a Soulslike third person or fps with a Final Fantasy setting/art style mainly from FF10 and 12 or Soulslike with a Dark Tower setting. Second Idea is a fps like Fear meets Hunter the reckoning and John Carpenter's Vampire. Last idea is a horror shooter, say Bloodborne mixed with Stalker.

    • @SackoYT
      @SackoYT  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@orca1361 They sound like pretty cool ideas. But for now, try and make something small with those ideas, rather than trying to make a full game out of it. Having a completed level will have a snowball effect on any further development of the game/idea.

    Because of critics I never played Dishonored 1 and Homefront 2, two games that I enjoyed very much many years later. And there are many more I probably will never play because of this and that sucks!
    But in a world of shitty garbage titles especially in AAA I have to rely on other people to a certain extent, because I really can't play them all myself.
    And believe me, I tried.

    Hmm, so the strategy is to play games, and then monitor one's own enjoyment/fulfilment sensations during the experience, and then use that to form objective opinions about whether said media is good or bad. Seems like too much bother for me, I prefer to steal other peoples' opinions rather than trying to form my own.
