So very sorry for your loss, glad you found out the problem early enough that all the fish did not pass! I would have felt so devastated, depressed and crazy!
Feel for you mate, I hope the reason for the pumps stopping is easy to find. I'd second what Jamie at Keeping it Koi said, you don't need a skimmer basket if you have a filter before the pump. Mine has run without one for 20 years even with whole leaves going down it.
Sorry to hear uve lost fish I know how it feels mate! But I still get a question in my head I want to ask without sounding arrogant? How long was the pond really off for mate because there's no way on this planet your pond could go that green in 2 days? I've seen this happen many times and for it to go that green we're you carnt see through the window takes longer than 2 days?
Thanks mate. Honestly, 3 days tops. Was crystal clear Sunday night, everything was still running Monday night. Got back thursday night and it was pea soup. .It surprised me too! I haven't got anything to hide. My auto feeder was still feeding heavy even when it all switched off. With regards to the dead fish. Having shown a few people footage of the fish when I got it, we've agreed that it seemed like it wasn't in tip top shape, very thin. So yeah I'm as surprised as you are that it went so green so quick! It was a hot few days though so.....
@koicentralofficial fair play to you mate and thanks for the reply? It's not a good feeling loosing fish but unfortunately it happens? I hope everything turns out for the best 👌🏾 tc
Hi Matt. I'm really sorry you've had problems with your new pond. Sorry for the loss of your fish. Unless your a koi keeper people don't understand what it's like to loose one. Like I've said before, you've been an inspiration to alot of people on here. The fact you think outside the box and are willing to try things which other people wouldn't. Just keep doing what you are doing. You'll turn it around. You have an amazing setup. Good luck with it all. Don't give up.
Oh Matt what a nightmare, as people have already said..take it on the chin and keep going, you have a great pond there. Onwards and upwards. Thanks also for staying true to your channel and sharing it with us. I know it must have been hard.
So sorry Matt, its heart breaking, such a lovely Koi to loose, we have all been there, so we are feeling for you, hope you get it sorted, best wishes, Tony
dont knock yourself matt buddy even the best koi keeper can get it wrong and there will be casualties in pond keeping have a great weekend cheers martyn 👍👍
What a total nightmare .It is good you spotted the shower wasn't working and you could get home. I must admit I wouldn't have thought everything would have spiked that quickly, with the amount of water in the system. Hope all goes well sorting it out.
What a nightmare Matt, I'm so gutted for you. It just shows how the perfect conditions can be literally held on a knife edge with a koi pond, and when one part fails the whole system can crash. I can see your pain and I really hope it's short lived. Thankfully the temperatures are not so crazy as it would have been even worse but I hope you bounce back soon buddy and can sort the issue
Cheers buddy 👍 yeah it was a big kick in the balls tbh mate! But I think I've got on top of it now! Gutted but just goes to show how important filtration is! 👍
Hi mate. It was by me in Birmingham. Its all done now, I'm a couple of weeks ahead on my vids at the moment. Unfortunately there were only a couple of decent fish in the end, but there's one fat heron flying around 😭 and the filtration was old school so nothing worth having there either.
Hi Matt. With all that floating algae your drum could have been cleaning faster than your top up could run ? When your water water level drops the drum cleans more and more often (some people call it "Dump Mode"). Your skimmer being blocked shouldn't affect the water level in your drum and pond, Hope that this helps.
Not sure how your pumps and filters are plumbed but might be an idea to maybe separate them so that the shower could run independently from possibly the skimmer. That way if ever your RDF and moving bed shut down your Bakki shower would still be running!
They're both fed from the drum. Could be an idea to have a backup pump though. I have removed the skimmer basket now though which was the reason for the blockage 👍
Nightmare mate sorry for your loss mate 😕 still could have been alot worse learn from it so you can prevent it happening again 👍🤞 with a drum i wouldn't have the basket in the skimmer i took mine out and any leaves food etc will get taken out by the drum anyway 👍😊
Thanks Jamie, yeah the skimmer basket has gone, didn't think about it until now. Think I'm all good now, fish are fine and pond is getting back to normal 👍
Nightmare Matt…🤬 Gutted for you mate. You will get to the bottom of it and as you say come back stronger. Don’t beat yourself up so much an move on. Hope your weekend plans go well at the pond closure mate….👍🏼
I feel for you mate I had powers cut on Wednesday lost 15 fish I bought a wi-Fi dongle that tells me if power goes out again and a battery pack that cuts in in future
Sorry to hear your troubles. With your cameras, I thought you would be able to go back to Tues or Wednesday and be able to see exactly what time they turned off. That's what the SD card is for. I'm now all about the Reef hobby as you can see with my TH-cam channel logo and I haven't got my Koi Pond anymore, however like you I work away a fair bit and I have a Seneye device set up in my tank so if the water drops (return pump fails) I will get a notification the water has dropped below the Seneye sensor. Could this sort of thing be any good for yourself?? You would need the Reef version I believe and the SWS unit for the WIFI. At least you will be notified.
Thanks for the feedback buddy. To be honest I didn't need to go back on the cameras. I knew straight away it was down to the skimmer getting blocked up My own fault really. I've since removed the basket so that won't happen again! Mate I've got a reaf tank too, never had any troubles with that! And as we both know, a reef tank is 100 times harder to care for than a koi pond! Do you know anyone that wants a Japanese toadstool? 😎
@@koicentralofficial oh ok fair enough. At least you know what's caused it so you can get it sorted. I like to have a many redundancys on my reef tank as possible to try and eliminate possible problems or get notified if something happens so I can react to it. Oh nice one 😀 How bigs the tank and what you keeping? I don't know anyone that wants a Jap Toadstool although plenty of Facebook groups where you can advertise as rehoming and to get people to PM you for a price 😀
Oh Matt gutted you lost your koi. We’ve definitely all been there with a new pond, it’s always the thing you least expect that kicks you in the gonad’s. I know it’s hard to think this at the moment but it could have been a lot worst fella. You’ll get on top of it and I’m betting you’ll find a gadget to monitor in future. 😜. If there’s anything I can do to help just shout 👍🏻
you've got some strange parameters going on there, having a kh of 5 and a ph of 9 is really weird as i have around 5kh in my pond and my ph is 7.2 to 7.4, your high nitrite is due to overfeeding, ammonia bacteria establishes fast but the nitrite takes a long time to establish properly, so over feeding has caused a lot of ammonia to be converted into nitrite and there's not much dealing with that by the looks of things
As my filtration wasn't running for at least to days its understandable the nitrites were high as my auto feeder was still feeding. Ph had to be linked in some way also as its usually a steady 8. All back to normal now and running great 👍
Hope you find the root cause. High levels of Ammonia will kill fish pretty quickly, high nitrite pretty slowly, nitrates not at all. Just seems like a very short window for nitrite to have killed your kujaku. Could you have had an ammonia spike that didn’t show on the test when the filters were out? With you’re high PH, a small amount of ammonia will have been highly toxic
Thanks bud, the fish was quite new to the pond so I'm guessing it was still stressed from the move, and this may have been to much for him. That's the only thing I can put it down to. All the other fish seemed OK 👍
I will mate. It turned out the skimmer was blocked up, it knew it could have been an issue so it's my own fault. The reason I went for a drum was so I didn't have to maintain so much but I took my eye off the ball in the first 2-3 weeks which was stupid. Learnt my lesson for sure. Anyway I think things are running good now and I'm really enjoying the koi in there new home 👍
mate I am in desperate need of a pump and pressure filter or decent box filter if any is giving any away if you could keep an ear out I'd appreciate it
I'm going back to the pond closure tomorrow, not much in the way of filters but think there may be a couple of pumps up for grabs. I'll let you know. I won't want anything for them 👍
Yeah you're right 👍 think I was over reacting a bit looking back at it. With the fish still probably still stressed from the move and having spoken to a couple of people who have said the same as you, I agree it did look thin, so may not have been in great shape when I got it ☹️
Never said anything about expensive fish mate? Just that there's a possibility there might be some nice fish as the old fella who died obviously enjoyed the hobby.
Matt I'm sure i had your number but can't find it ring the shop number and ask the Mrs to give you my number and give me a call I'm not home at the min
It happens mate head up probably new pond syndrome also which made it raise rapidly
All the best Jiffster 👍🏼👍🏼
Back on track now Mike 👍

Very true Craig 👍 think I panicked a bit tbh, although it's a bummer I lost that fish.
Pump flow with plenty of filtering and snails. Goodies
500 gpm-1000

Luckily you've only lost the one, but would recommend you sterilise the whole system to prevent any bacterial issues that could now materialise
What would you recommend Rob? Preferably a treatment that can go in with the fish? Or Something else?

That nitrite level is nothing .you will never have zero .that didn’t kill your fish .the kujaku looks very thin to me .
