Extremely good and honest review Dave, I’ve looked at this online a couple of times. But, I’m not affect with fines, so am not going to change for now. Your review has proved this works really well, so I would buy with confidence if the need arises. This is the first filter clean video, I’d watch again, normally I don’t get to the end. I’m pretty sure EA will be looking very carefully at this and it would not surprise me if they don’t make some modifications. Stay safe and well 👍🏻
Very very impressed with those results, your last video under water was a transformation compared from the first video, ill start saving now, thank you for a great review of the trident, all the thought and engineering make perfectly good sense. 👍
Enjoyed your video. I love your little spawning basket. I had no idea I had any females. Totally unprepared and got nothing this year out of 2 spawning. Now I’m still pretty new to all this and even though I have finally achieved koi nirvana lol. The maintenance is too much. My water is crystal clear. However my fish load is too great. I actually did get 3 babies last year, again shocking. So I can’t part with them so I put up with a lot of cleaning. I’m retired and on a fixed budget so a Nexus or RDF is out of the question. However right now I’m fabricating a quite inexpensive DYI sieve filter. I do believe it will help a lot! I’m going to use it as a pre filter in front of my Aquascape bio falls. My plan includes a 35 watt UV and I’m going to use K1 media with an air pump in the lower chamber of the sieve. Then gravity drop to the bio falls which will use fabric batting ( stuff to make pillows ) it’s cheap and you don’t clean. Simply remove and wring out over your plants. I’ll also put in a bag of charcoal to remove any Tannis there might be. This will hold down the batting in the bio falls as well. I believe this should take away some maintenance over just using layered pads. I actually bought a pressure filter as a pre filter on the one waterfall. I still had to clean everything too much. Oh the money I’ve spent on trying different things over 2 years. Wish I had researched more before I did it. Now I have a graveyard of stuff I don’t use. A small skimmer, pumps, PVC pipe, fittings and valves, filter pads and some liner. Lol enough to build another pond probably. Wife would shoot me though 😂. I’d appreciate very much your input on this. Perhaps even a better idea before I assemble it all and hook up. For anyone building your first pond you should REALLY watch videos like this. And most times it’s simply better to spend the money up front instead of wasting time AND money trying to save money. 🙄 In the end it might even end up costing you a lot less. Again thank you! Your place looks beautiful and you did a nice job explaining everything. I can see the engineering improvement on your Nexus as I am an engineer / fabricator as well. 🤙🏻🤙🏻 ❤🐟🐠🐟
Looks like an awesome retrofit for the Nexus. Certainly made a massive difference to the amount of fines in your pond. Water so much cleaner now. Hopefully Neil has taken out a patent for it to avoid anyone else (EA perhaps) replicating it as their own design.
What the guys done is take Wrighty's blue barrel design and make it fit the nexus. The tempest is the same. When Wrighty designed his 3 barrel system he said he did it because he wanted a nexus but couldn't afford one. His design didn't suffer the fines issue. If you look at the ponds that quality nishigoi build they fit a bead filter with a nexus to handle the fines. The trident seems to have worked so I bet you're a happy man.🙂
I saw one of these last year and made my own version for my homemade easypod. I've not used any filter floss ever since . Well worth the conversion if you have an EA filter .
Great review Dave, I too was sceptical of waste staying inside the eazy when it boiled as it has no side slots but then you checked it so may have to make a purchase at some point 👍
Great review. I'm in the planning stages for a pond and hope to start building next year (funds allowing). I noticed these myself a few weeks ago and was impressed with what I saw, but this is the review/confirmation I was looking for. I will be following this very closely. Thanks again for the great channel and useful content.
Hi, I have just discovered your great channel - thank you for having the guts to share your journey with the world. A quick question on the fines, had you given thought to adding a Cetus Sieve before the Nexus? Has the Trident kicked the sieve into the long grass? Thanks Peter
Thanks for joining the channel. The Cetus sieve was a no go for me due to room. The sieve is a great way of removing particles that would otherwise clog the nexus. The trident was more a way of polishing the water in a similar way a tempest does. Hopefully you enjoy the channel 😊👍🏼
Thanks for the review. Been waiting for this and it has settled a few concerns so I have ordered one for my 220. I plan to use my old Eazy as a giant bird feeder lol. Thank you. Edit* Your review was very good it seems, I had the last one for the 220 variant.
I was waiting for that trial and review. Good results so far. Good invention, Effectively, it's a barrel system within the nexus. Fab. Hope the guy has protected his invention and can sell it to EA as they will be straight on that. The one thing probably to be looking at closely is when/if people treat for blanket weed as the bottom will be totally clogged up. Would that overflow make the nexus overflow?
Now this is the review I’ve been waiting for 👍🏼👍🏼 Greatly done Dave 👏🏽 It seems like a great product and can take the nexus hopefully to the next level Wouldn’t be surprised if EA try to buy him out Koi billionaire incoming 🤣
Great honest & funny review👍🏻 thank you Have you noticed a strain on your pump has it restricted any flow? Does the centre media get pushed up and out more? Thanks again and loving this review very interested in this product now 🤔
Great review Dave 👍 Looks like a really good addition to the Nexus. Just installed my 220 today, so will leave it a week or two and see how it goes, but may enquire further. Stay safe.
Very interesting review 👍 going to see how the new pond goes for a month or so once up and running and if the fines are a bit wild I will definitely check them out 👌 keep up the good content bud 👍
OK so took the plunge on the back of this video as I am also suffering with fines despite a tempest .... so Titan arrived this morning and fitted as per the clear instructions. I am finding that the K media seems to "leak" from the bottom to the inner chamber.. was very careful not to buckle the base plate but still it gets through on the boil . Let's see how it settles down. High hopes for a good result 👌
If you are having issues with k1 going through the baseplate I would get in touch with Neil as that’s not right. Is it a lot of k1 or the odd few bits? I’ve had a couple of strays but only ones that are squashed already so can slip through.
@@edenkoipond it seems to have settled down on day 2 ... having to do a lot of boils at moment but that could be all the crud is catching.... hoping by end if weekend to be back on track and not having to do twice daily !
Looks like a big improvement and money well spent Dave 👍 Do you have any concerns of it blocking up totally if left too long? I assume worst case, it'd just overflow the media into the vortex?
Its a bit like going back in time with the easy's design, I've been running 2 nexus 300's since 2005, I've always wanted to upgrade the easy to the newer versions with the two extra rows of slots on the outer ring, mine only has 3 towards the bottom of the easy so I think EA accidentally invented the up flow from back then. My main reason for wanting to upgrade them is so it doesn't block up so fast as water would be able to enter through the sides not just the bottom, every summer is nightmare for me with just a little bit of algae in the pond and the fish tearing it off would block both filters in less the 24 hours so I ended up trying something new this year by putting two spawning brushes around the easy at the top of the filter to catch most of the algae as it comes in instead of it all going down to the bottom and blocking everything, worked a treat, filters will go 3 days now and I have a life again.
@@edenkoipond You can but doubles the running cost of the nexus as you need two pumps, one from the sieve to the nexus and one from the nexus to the pond. Ideally I would like a drum and put both bottom drains and the skimmer into it before going into the nexus's, I know a lot of people opt for a bio chamber but I think it makes sense to have the nexus still just in case the drum has a fault, at least you would still have mechanical filtration until the drums back up and running but that's another 3 grand story lol
Hi Dave, great review of this unit, I am sorry but not on faceslap so can you answer on here whether you had to alter the flow rate of the pump, the Trident seems to have much less area for the water to flow through to the outer bio chamber, there have been a few concerned comments on here regarding the pump speed that you have not replied to
Hiya - I’ve done a follow up video to my original addressing a few of the concerns. With regards to my flow rate, I’ve not changed it. I run my varipump 20000 at 50% as always. 👍🏼
Hi how litres of micro k1 are you using on the trident and what flow on the pump as I’m having problems outer chamber emptying since I got the trident and not sure if I have to much micro k1
Looks like an interesting piece of kit Dave , good review , my only concern would be when you have blanket weed issues just how fast the bottom would block up (if at all) compared to the normal easy , I’ll keep watching with interest , but my drum and bio will be here this week , Bonjour mon petit poi 😎😎😀😀

Hi Dave, I am considering to upgrade my EA. Was wondering your opinion on Trident vs Draco drum? Which would you consider since you have tried both? Many thanks in advance
Hiya buddy. Two very different products. The trident is great but don’t think they’re being made anymore. You could try my duct tape version to see how you get on. The draco is more costly but provides the best results by far. Removes the hassle of manual cleaning etc. if you have the cash - the draco wins hands down 👍🏼
Great review and entertaining as usual, been tempted to buy one of these for a while now, be interesting to hear what EA think of it. What was the flow rate you was getting mate, can you get a better one than when using the easy?
Great idea to the problem, why spend £270 on a Tempest when you could have this for £50 more and slot it straight in. My only worry would be leaving it for an extended period with all the algae blocking it, but I guess that is what the overflow is for.
Amazing difference. A shame EA has done nothing to improve the problem that they must know they have. Nexuses may be cheaper than drum filters, but they're still nearly £1.5k which isn't cheap. Looking at the design, it looks a very easy fix that EA could do. They'll probably bring out a 420 Nexus now with this modification and charge more for it. At least it's working for you 👍
