Cherish Your Spouse, Change Your Marriage Part 2 - Gary Thomas

  • Gary Thomas wants to help married couples take their relationship to the next level by showing them how to support, adore, showcase and protect their spouse. Husbands and wives know they are supposed to love each other, but they don’t always like or appreciate each other; cherishing is aimed at reaching for that ideal where you genuinely enjoy your spouse. Cherishing is different from infatuation because you cherish someone even though you know all their faults and weaknesses. Gary described practical ways to cherish: by paying attention to your spouse, going to them first, supporting, encouraging rather than criticizing, and avoiding contempt.
You can find Gary's book on our store here: bit.ly/2UMtVvQ
Cherishing is something we need to be intentional about doing, even if we do it imperfectly and the result will be a happier, more fulfilling relationship in marriage.

Gary Thomas's book 'cherish' was the most life changing eye-opening book of my life outside of the Bible.

I had a friend in the military that was a superb man. Excellent at his work. Truly a trustworthy, honorable man. He excelled at his job. He was kind and loving with family and those at work. He committed suicide. It was NOT the job. It was known throughout the command how verbally abusive his wife was. Always telling him how selfish and self-centered he was and what a terrible husband he was. Oh, but none of that matters because he wasn't 'hitting 90%" It was his fault for not hitting the pitches.

I'm very sorry about your friend. It takes two people to make a partnership. That situation sounds like the wife wasn't receptive to what the husband was doing. That's not a reflection on the husband. The man being interviewed did say that he gets calls as a marriage counselor from couples where one partner obviously is the cause of failure. Your friend sounds like he might have been in that situation.

This was so absolutely wonderful! What I would really love and appreciate is if you guys could do one on how to consistently and constantly show love and respect to your husband it like you did in this in regards to women and being cherished. How can I do it in regards to respect in my husband and what are some examples?

Min 12 is exactly how I feel as a step mom who's husband is buddies with his son...it feels like rejection or being put as a last thought then you shut down and put up walls. No one knows all the little pains, the death by a thousand papercuts, that step families bring.

What do couples do when you have an alcoholic husband or wife?
Or a drug user? A nagging wife? A verbal abusive husband?
So many couples hurt with the toxic living styles with no repentance…
Normal Christian living can work at these beautiful teaching.. but the church needs to help people with heavy wounds…

My wife was abused when she was younger and since I knew that I decided to treat her with kid gloves and cherish her like crazy with cherry on top. But doc I think I went overboard cause she left. On different occasions We spoke I interjected that she is not allowing us(the children and I)to love her. That last illustration is how I felt often though commended by ppl anywhere and everywhere I went, I come home and along with booooooooooooooooooooooo after that I get a long struuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuupes!then back turned on me and door slammed in my face and then locked curtains drawn and lights turned off. And all I have ever tried to do was love my queen without reservations!💔😢💦 IT HURTS TO SAY THE LEAST.😪

My spouse wants a divorce but made no effort to file or reconcile our marriage. What should I do? Should I go ahead and just divorce him instead? I feel like I have a noose around my neck with this indecision of divorce on his part. I rather he makes an executive decision and get over with the divorce and just release me and the kids😢

The David Clarke program was recorded before Focus upgraded the studio. So there isn't a TH-cam version of it. Usually the programs are the same, but Focus always provides an alternate TH-cam program if there isn't a video version of the radio program.

After 22 years of marriage I never in my life my husband would cheat until I received a message from the husband of that woman! We had a breakup, yet I forgave him, never divorced but unfortunately 3 years later I am married to a bitter man . I need Gods guidance now in this matter

I understand the principle but it sounds like women are so weak unless we constantly hear affirmations from our husband and make us feel cherished. Lol. Men should feel cherished too. We're all human. What a poor concept of women not to mention inaccurate. Actions are more powerful than words. DO for your wife. Wives DO for your husband's. Marriage should make us holy not just happy. Think of each support each other. There. Problem solved.
