🎶That ⬆️ is singularly because of this man. When I DJ'ed in the 80s his band 'torch song' came on WLIR in Long Island, which was the only radio station really breaking all that crazy stuff from England. The precise kind of things I wanted to spin and involve the public in. Not just disco or plain dance music or R&B that had gotten very stale. Meanwhile Madonna may have been familiar with their little hit song on the alternative radio "don't look now" at that time being in New York. I want to say around 1984. The little keyboard, tricks and crazy basics. Perhaps even drumming on the strings gave this song and edge. So of course I had to dig deeper.. I knew about William's relationship to classical music because it was the same in my home growing up. My dad was the best tuba player in the world and classical music is quite richly appreciated these later years that I have always spent chasing Sound. 🎼Hard to believe how William's work gets overlooked from that period very hard to find on 80s compilations and other things, but I thought he was a step beyond most of his peers and many of the things I have in my collection from that period and I collected damn near all of it..... The import record store was my home away from home.... I still have it all and it's in pristine condition, no scratches no dog ear covers, No warped records and believe me that's hard with those cheesy thin 12 inch singles from England… You have to store those properly or they will warp into an oyster dish. , 📀🎶🎸🎹🔊🪩♠️🎙️💜💿
I think SC1 & 2 were warm-ups, but SC3 changed my life (although to be fair, it was my introduction to him), and SC4 (as it should be called!), is amazing too.
You might also like Surrender which was on the same All Saints album as Pure Shores. And my personal favourite William Orbit produced song: Beth Orton - Roll The Dice.
@IThinkTheFuckNot YouTrickAssBitch hardly. Get a grip. Pure shores predates swim. All saints resurrected the original demo and made it a hit. Madge was furious it wasn’t given to her
Strange cargo 3 was the only album I listened to for a whole year in 1993. So much depth and nuance with multilayered melodies over the soft dance beat.
Love this guy. I had the great good fortune in the early 90’s to do a couple of tours with William and Bassomatic. What a talent and all round nice guy.
Unfortunately I read that William had a hard time working with Damon Albarn, He wasn’t pleasant apparently. I only discovered William because of Madonna’s album Ray of Light, not a fan of Madonna much but I enjoyed that album and found all his amazing albums since, absolutely loved “Water from a vine leaf” William’s music is very ethereal
William Orbit who has made prominent music for the last several decades: I would create and imagine symphonies in my mind Newscaster that has never made any music: That's not normal I have never made any music, but I would imagine it is like imagining how you are going to paint something, all the layers, the different sections and how they will work together to create that final vision. Glad to see Mr. Orbit creating his art after taking a breather.
His best work is still his work with Madonna. But a lot of producers’ best work is their work with Madonna. She’s an incredible songwriter and producer and pushes people to give her their very best.
I just noticed it today. Been a big fan of Pure Shores for years since it came out really, heard Frozen before but never really paid attention to the production until today when I noticed the same keys/pad sound used on Pure Shores in Frozen, the 2 chord gentle stabs. Great productions.
I mostly know his work from his solo projects. “Strange Cargo III” is a masterpiece but his Madonna, more pop contributions don’t work for me. Britain’s Mark Mothersbaugh in my opinion. He worked on the famous All Saints song? Blimey, that makes me nostalgic.
I had no idea he was behind pure shores! I came here because ray of light is an incredible track and wanted to see what else he had engineered. Pure shores reminds me of being a kid along with ray of light… some really clever production and he makes very powerful music 😎 he’s a genius
I saw William and Bassomatic doing a live gig in HMV London back in the day , he already had his trademark sound just listen to his track Heart of the bass it’s all there man’s up there with Liam Howlett who turned down working with Maddonna.
today I listened to 'black coffee' ten times in a row, as loud as I could stand, trying to pick apart the unusually dense arrangement. I spotted all kinds of things in there, even noting that the gated organ part sounded a lot like townsend's lowry part in "won't get fooled again" (a multitrack I briefly had access to, years ago, while visiting the studio that the cocteau twins rented from PT as 'september sound'). but a lot of it eludes me. I'd love to find stems, or a breakdown of the arrangement. the remixes on the same EP are awful. I mean, why bother? you're not going to improve on WO when it comes to this sort of pop. a master, up there with spector & very few others.
@@NotOrdinaryInGames it's not just age. he got really REALLY into cocaine in a late period of his life, in the 2010s. Pretty sure he wouldn't look so arresting if he hadn't. He was quirky looking before, but not freaky.
William Orbit is one of the best producers in the world and one of the most underrated.
@interracialkiss2023 Ray Of Light, hands down.
exactly, he's as big as Vangelis. Also an amazing composer. His albums are such a delight after many years.
Amazing how I've never heard of him until now, despite being a big fan of 80s/90s music.
And one of the most humble geniuses
who's being getting the putty out? lets be having ya... yes please @williamorbit slap on the jam
Ray of Light is still the best Madonna Album in my opinion. It still sounds amazing.
Totally 👍👍
Yep. Timeless.
Indeed

William Orbit was like a synth god in the 90's; his first three Strange Cargo albums were absolutely amazing.

Don't forget his work on Torchsong - Toward The Unknown Region
It's like water from a vine leaf... Just dripping down...
There's nothing more satisfying than going through a rough patch, no matter how long, then starting to see the light shine again.
Pure Shores is one of the most beautiful pop songs ever.
Pure shores is such a beautiful track, something about that song that is heavenly

His work with Madonna was fantastic
Genius, of course, but also a beautiful, humble man. Much respect, maestro.
Jeez. Only just found this guy. At 58 I never knew he did all this stuff! Genius! The guy is legend. Awesome.

MTV used Water from a vine leaf for a cool ident i have somewhere on VHS :0
Damn he was a huge part of the late 90s/early 2000s pop sound, which I think has aged really well.
The interview didn't even mention Barber's Adagio for Strings, that was an anthem of the 90's.
It was a Ferry Corsten remix
Bass-o-Matic changed my musical perception.
Orbit has a genius. Glad he’s open to It working through him. Genius worked through him even as a child.
His version of Barber's Adagio for Strings is sublime.
Wasn't it pretty much the same? You had the atrociously cheesy Ferry Corsten remix.
@@AC_Milan1899 hey man, the Ferry Corsten track is great 🤣 nostalgia
What a fascinating and down to earth man.

one underrated genius. One of my favourite composers from the 90s
So brilliant, and so humble. I Love you William!!! We need you. The world needs you
WELCOME BACK WILLIAM...YOU ARE BETTER THAN EVER !

The new album is great! I've been eating for more of his work for ages. "Sea Green" of his is one of my faves

Not true. Hi best work his his own stuff. But Madonna'a best work was with him, by far

I just Luv Adagio for Strings. It is a haunting piece that brings back melancholic memories. And sends me to tears...❤
Hello Waveforms is one of my favs
i just discovered him because he was on most of my fav tracks from 90 00 and there this beautiful man is finally
Ahead of time this man .
In a Landscape by William Orbit is haunting, if you've never heard it I urge you to look it up.
this man is a genius
but um, how is there no comment discussing his appearance? what happened.
Incredible how many artists he worked with and all those songs were incredible
Brilliant William! Thanks for bringing all this music to life for us!
Not to be offensive but did Mr. Orbit have a stroke or a medical condition, his lips and face seems to droop a bit or uneven?
I read that he got heavily into drugs in the 2010s, he did cocaine, LSD, codeine and 8 joints a day! So he ended up in the psychiatric hospital.
@@flywings111is he, er... Y'know.. erm... Er... Is he a gay
The Painter is soooo worth listening to.
if you listen closely, Frozen (Madonna) and Pure Shores (All Saints) have similar samples in the song.

Mount Everest of Musical Talent.
Wonderful musician with some lovely chillout tunes, then his producing for other artists.
Genius. An amazing musician.

Here because of Ray of light. Respect.
The Feel Good Mixes are SO good

1996-1997 it was my best beast time....welcome to the show
Wow a legend. Girl power too. All for it.
Musical genius
Set the controls for the heart of the bass.
„Spiral” that he made with Sugababes would be an amazing comeback single!
Genius man
He should be working with T swift. Martin and shellback gave her some of the best pop songs of the 2010s. William could do it for the 2020s with her.
he is brilliant
This is a great Album , absolutely love it !!

does anyone know the first song
His best song oddly enough is a trip hop take on Maurice Ravel’s “Pavane...”

Yo diria que William Orbit es el 5to blur. Gracias por la obra maestra del 13

That's the face he was born with. People get older that's it.
