    Great job, Dave! Straight forward but impressive project with a ton of possibilities. Thank you! I learned a new Corel trick, too!

    Great idea. I just can’t get the channeling lines done with affinity designer. I am sort of lost at this point.

    • @TrotecLaser

      Unfortunately, I am not familiar with that software. Offset in the software is very important for this to work. See if you can find a TH-cam video on how to control offset lines in your Affinity design software.

    any chance of a eps file type for us that don't use CD any more? very nice video I'd love to make.

      There is an included PDF format, which is a generic vector format that can be imported into almost all graphic software.

    Hey there, great idea and video! What is the lifespan of el wire? Viewed a video about laser wire vs el wire also, would laser wire work too, or should corners be more curved then?

    • @TrotecLaser

      The base of this wire is just an LED light, which only transmits through the wire. Most LED lights should last at least 10K hours, but please check with the manufacturer. Any other light-up wire material should work with this process as long as it can handle the channel curves. You can also adjust the cut line curves in your design files to meet the requirements of any wire used.

    I’m not being able to right click to make the outline/fill disappear ?

      This process should work on CorelDraw unless you are using a Mac. If you need help, please get in touch with Corel Support.

    does the back piece have to be mirrored

    • @TrotecLaser

      Typically, the "Back Plate" will not need to be mirrored

    Awesome! Do you think it may need a clear front cover ?

    • @davidstevens2577

      I can not see why a clear front cover would be needed, but you can do this if you like.

    You can't use transparent acrylic, right?

    • @davidstevens2577

      You are correct; this process would not work well with transparent acrylic because you will see the residue from the double-sided adhesive between the layers. I recommend a frosted or opaque acrylic. The second layer cannot be transparent or opaque to hide the wire as it ties together on the back.

    What is the lowest version of Corel the .cdr file should open in?

    • @TrotecLaser

      We usually save a few versions back, but if it does not open because your version is older, use the PDF format provided and import it; PDF is a generic vector format that will import into any version of CorelDraw.

      @@TrotecLaser got it - thanks. Since the LED is about 12 feet long, does Corel give a way to measure the distance of any given letter path? It would be bad to find out the lighting is an inch or two short to cover all the letters.

    • @TrotecLaser

      If CorelDraw has a line measurement feature, this is not something I have ever looked for or needed; you would have to contact them or find out online.

    I understand why you leave the two sheets of acrylic together when you made your sign, because it keeps everything in line. But couldn't a person cut the sheet with the text first then place adhere it to the mirrored sheet? This way you won't have to experiment with power and speed to just cut through the top sheet. Sometimes you have the right power and speed, but on some sheets, it doesn't completely cut through.

    • @TrotecLaser

      It should be possible to cut them separately, but you need to use the laser to mark or engrave the base so that when you put the parts together, you can line them up correctly, mainly for the inside letters or characters. - Laser Dave
